They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

Bio
I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~
@VitaVitaAR So the Japanese schools aren't the only ones in the world? Hmm. I can work with that.
I suppose I could paint Shakti as a guardian angel gone wrong. Its charge died, and it turned to vengeance, then was banished by people who didn't know what the hell it was. As a result now it's tied to shadow, instead of to light. Would that work for you?

[ HERO NAME ]
Terraformer
[ NICKNAME/ALIAS ]
Terra (his full hero name is a little long)
[ AGE ]
18 (born August 28th)
[ GENDER ]
male
[ AFFILIATION ]
HERO operative
[ APPEARANCE ]
Jareth works hard to keep himself in shape. Unfortunately for him, the ripped appearance of movie heroes is out of his reach (seriously, it's unhealthy what they do to look so jacked), but he is well-muscled and athletic. His round face is covered in freckles, and he cannot grow a beard to save his life, so keeps himself clean-shaven. His hair is rusty-brown, and his eyes are just plain brown. He favors hard-wearing clothes in earthy tones. He usually has some sort of scarf or bandana around his neck, and nearly always wears steel-toed shoes. As a hero, his outfit changes little, the only real difference the addition of a pair of goggles.
[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]
Jareth is friendly and outgoing. He's easy to get along with, and prefers to go with the flow rather than make waves. He's hardworking and diligent, and his friends find him a good listener. He can be easily flustered (especially by a pretty girl). He's a bit of a geek, and unashamedly so.
[ BIO ]
Jareth had a normal childhood growing up on Passenger Island. His mother is a computer programmer; his father a mechanic. He finds both fields fascinating, melding the two into an interest in robotics, among other things. His first real contact with the world of superheroes came when a young girl moved in down the street, a shy child that took him some time to befriend.
That changed at fifteen, when Jareth accidentally shielded himself from a water balloon with a pile of dirt and rock instead of just his hand. Off to the Academy he went, not unwillingly -- he'd always been curious about what Amuné's world was like, and now he was part of it.
He delayed becoming an operative until Amuné was old enough to become one as well, and is only now starting actual field work.
| MISCELLANEOUS |
Jareth loves tinkering with machinery, computers, and robotics.

[ POWERS ]
Jareth is a terrakinetic, meaning rock and metal are his to wield -- metal taking more effort than simple rock and dirt. Using his abilities generally means some level of property damage, though he does his best not to make too much of a mess. He is capable of both large scale throwing boulders about and finer work, like assembling a pocketwatch.

[ DESTRUCTIVENESS ] ■■■■■■■□□□ Jareth's powers are wildly destructive if used carelessly, cabable of causing large-scale structural and architectural damage.
[ LETHALITY ] ■■■□□□□□□□ Jareth can squish people with rocks, but that's pretty much it.
[ ENDURANCE ] ■■■□□□□□□□ Jareth is able to use his powers to shield himself from some blows, giving him a slight edge in endurance.
[ STAMINA ] ■■■■□□□□□□ Jareth has decent stamina, though in a fight of attrition using his powers will wear him down.
[ EFFICACY ] ■■■■□□□□□□ Jareth has excellent control over his powerset, and no longer damages things by accident when emotional.
[ SURVEILLANCE LEVEL ] ■■■■■□□□□□ While Jareth's values align well with those of HERO, his powers are naturally destructive and require watching.
[ SKILLS ]
Jareth knows how to take apart and reassemble car engines and pocketwatches. He's also skilled in the field of robotics.
[ EQUIPMENT ]
Jareth's hero outfit includes goggles with some tech enhancements.
Amuné is lanky and thin, almost gangly. It's evident that she will be on the tall side as an adult, but right now she's not yet grown into her long limbs. Her eyes are grey, set above a nose sprinkled with freckles. Her brown hair is cut in an angled bob, longer in front than in back. She favors hard-wearing clothes, though she won't pass up an opportunity to dress nicely when given one. As a hero, she wears a light kevlar vest and jeans, along with sturdy boots. To hide her identity, she wears a white face mask with goldenrod markings. When not in use, the mask folds up using compacting technology into a small earpiece.
[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]
Amuné can be slow to trust, and is not the best at being a team player -- an aspect of herself she is working hard to improve. She is very self-reliant, and dislikes burdening others with her problems, though she's made great strides at opening up in the past several years. Though she can be prickly, her friends find her reliable, thoughtful, and trustworthy, with a strong moral compass.
[ BIO ]
Amuné came into her powers at a very young age. She was all of five when she asked her father why her mommy wasn't coming home -- the day her mother died in a car accident. Her father didn't take the revelation well, turning to drink as a source of comfort. When a pair of suits claiming to be from a local hero organization turned up and offered to take custody of the girl, he didn't look too closely at things, and let her go with them despite her protests.
This was a mistake. What followed was several years of extreme unpleasantness in the care of the Ring that ended when an actual hero organization stepped in and freed the young supers in their clutches. Amuné does not speak of this portion of her past much, and still carries trauma from that time. About a year after she was freed, she was placed with a foster family on Passenger Island, and sent to attend the Academy for Junior Heroes to learn to master her abilities. While things were at first exceedingly difficult for her, through therapy and the care of her foster family Amuné has come to be a relatively well-adjusted teenager.

Amuné still attends therapy to help her deal with the problems of her past.
[ RANKING ]

[ POWERS ]
Amuné is a Seer, meaning she has visions of past, present, and sometimes future. Objects and places can carry echoes of past events, which she can read. In a fight, if she focuses, she can sense incoming attacks slightly before they occur, allowing her to dodge them better than she could otherwise. Contact with an opponent lets her 'read' them, discerning information about them that might not be readily apparent. Usually knowledge comes to her in the form of flashes of insight, but an actual vision is less controlled and more likely to dominate her awareness, sometimes to the exclusion of reality. Places and things with stronger echoes are more likely to trigger visions without Amuné trying to tap into them.

[ STAMINA ] ■■■■■□□□□□ Amuné has a high stamina, gained through extensive training.
[ EFFICACY ] ■■■■□□□□□□ Amuné has excellent control over her powerset, though sometimes visions will hit her for no apparent reason. She cannot use her powers to control other people.

[ Amuné and Jareth ]
[ IDENTITY ]
Blur Rabbit
[ THOUGHTS ]
"Who?"
Seriously though, they're a bit of a mystery. No one seems to know who they are outside of their hero identity.
[ RELATIONSHIP LEVEL ]
Amuné doesn't know it, but he was part of the team that saved her from the Ring.
[ IDENTITY ]
Madison "Wireframe" Weaver
[ THOUGHTS ]
"I'm grateful to her for taking care of Amuné when I couldn't be around."
She's a good mentor figure.
[ RELATIONSHIP LEVEL ]
Madison took Amuné under her wing when the latter arrived at the Academy, and the two are fast friends. Jareth came on the scene later.
[ IDENTITY ]
Austin "Wiseman" Barrow
[ THOUGHTS ]
"He's smart. Like, super smart."
And he let me watch when he was working, just like Jareth. So he's cool in my book.
[ RELATIONSHIP LEVEL ]
Amuné looks up to Austin, as he has shown her tricks and tips for defeating bigger and sturdier oppponents. The two have stayed in touch, even after Austin's graduation.
[ IDENTITY ]
Rupa "Alchemist" Sterling
[ THOUGHTS ]
"She's such a movie lover! It's kinda awesome."
Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to fit in that well. I can look out for her.
[ RELATIONSHIP LEVEL ]
Jareth sees Rupa as needing a guide in the states, and he's willing to be that person.

@VitaVitaAR Heylo! I am interested in joining, if spots are still open. I do have a few questions: primarily, is it okay if I play someone that is *not* Japanese, but was recruited anyhow because of the potential of her ability/because she was causing a fuss? Either one of the characters I'm thinking of playing had their powers forced upon them, and trouble followed shortly thereafter. I mean, if these two schools are the only ones of their kind in the world, it would make sense to have foreign students.
Secondly, would you be alright with a Seer/oracle type of character? This sort of power would require some input from the GM when I use it, obviously -- and I don't play it all-powerful. The future is a tricky thing. Sometimes visions are unclear, or just plain wrong. I'm thinking (for the character I think I'd prefer to play) that on a family trip to Norway she was blessed/cursed by the Norns. I'm aware this is more of a support power, though it does have some combat uses -- being able to vaguely sense attacks allows for a slightly faster reaction time, and she might be able to suss out an enemy's abilities through physical contact with it. I am having trouble thinking of a good cost, so if you have input there that'd be great.
The other option is a character with a spirit that serves as a melee fighter, emerging from shadows to inflict harm. This character would have been kidnapped by a cult and had her parents tortured and sacrificed (that being the cost) to bring the spirit forth. Shakti is an ancient (and made-up) spirit; I don't know if you're okay with that since it's not specifically Japanese themed and not actually from any mythology, though I do have some created lore for the spirit. I'm also not sure if you're okay with a power that is dangerous to allies -- Shakti *wants* to murder everything it sees as a threat to its host, and that includes civvies and the host's friends. Cas (the character) and Shakti have come to something of an understanding, but it's still...aggressive.
I'd want to talk to you at length about either character's backstory, probably in PM (although discord works too). Please, let me know what you think!
Hazmat suit and a man with what seemed to be force-based abilities made short work of the initial volley of attacks. Izkry frowned as he was asked for an analysis of the lizard-person. His drones had decent sensors, but that only went so far. "Sorry Jason. There's no data available on the 'dragon', either in the Avengers' database or public records. Observation says they're fast and durable, with some sort of web ability. Their body temp seems to be lower than the norm, which might provide an advantage if you can cool them off. They did seem concerned with Pepper's well-being, but now they've rejoined our opponents."
His attention shifted as Dancer chirped a notification in his ear. "We have one going airborne, on some sort of...giant shiny bird? Can't get a good visual beyond the hoodie they're wearing. My guess is the one in the hazmat suit is the source of the radiation; be careful with that one. Pink haired woman seems to be in charge. She's certainly giving orders."
He could only watch in frustration as both the young man in the golden armor and the biker chick were sent tumbling. Armor dude at least had been taken off-guard, but biker chick...biker chick had been overconfident, and apparently paid for it. Though it seemed her injury was closing up, so perhaps it wasn't as bad as Izkry initially feared.
On the gangway of the Quinjet, Belasý adjusted her stance as the woman with the pink hair -- apparently the leader -- turned her way. She wished she had a gun -- it would make things so much easier, but the goal was incapacitation, and not killing. She could understand why, but it still sucked. Even a pistol would be useful -- but again, that was too close to lethal. Bel pulled one of her knives out, holding it at her side. If the woman came at her, Belasý would be ready.
The tour lead them through the majority of the academy. Izkry was most interested in the workshop. For Belasý, the news that she would have not one but three roommates was more concerning -- though she perked up at the sight of a decent kitchen area. They were just about to learn their room assignments when War Machine said they had a situation.
On the way back to the locker rooms, Izkry got Happy's attention. "For this mission, we are aiming to incapacitate our opponents, yes? Or are we supposed to try to kill them?" To his relief, Happy said incapacitation would be sufficient. ^That means no guns, Bel,^ he told his sister, which earned him an exasperated sigh. But she left her rifle case in her locker.
It didn't take long for the pair to change. Neither had what could be called a hero costume. Izkry wore his jeans and swapped his sneakers for combat boots. Belasý too had combat boots, but she wore a thin jogging suit. Both sported lightweight kevlar vests, and Bel tied her hair back and then put it up in a bun. Her canteen was at her side, and her belt held two knives and a short stun rod. Izkry had his whip, and a small backpack.
Izkry spent the brief flight over patching Dancer into the Avengers' network (with permission), and listening to Happy's overview of the situation. The mention of radiation present was concerning, but even moreso was Happy's sudden cry of "Pepper!"
Then they were falling, and Happy was doing his best to make sure it'd be a safe landing. And it was -- rough, but mostly safe. Sigurd immediately stepped into the role of leader, which was fine with Izkry, but bothered Belasý -- how could he lead effectively if he didn't know their abilities? But there was no time to argue.
^Dancer, get airborne and give me an overhead view of this site,^ Izkry said aloud, opening his bag and taking out two tiny quadcopter drones. Dancer chirped an acknowledgement in his earpiece, and the drones started spinning up. In moments the two drones were airborne and out of sight. He pulled a tablet and connected keyboard out of his bag and set them up, as Belasý went to guard the gangway of the Quinjet.
Izkry opened his comm link with a self-conscious smile to himself. "Alright, everyone. Apologies for my bad English -- I'm Izkry, and I'll be your eyes in the sky today." With a soft command to Dancer, he sent one drone to take photos of the five on the ground, with the second drone following after Jason to keep tabs on him and the one called Pepper, also with orders to photograph their sixth opponent.
"Happy, do you recognize any of these people?" he asked, displaying the images across his screen.
Regrettably, one of them actually was recognizable. "One. The blonde with the fur-lined jacket? Anastasia Kravinoff, otherwise known as Kraven the Hunter. Inherited the title from her father after he...Well, that's not important. She's strong, fast, and has a level of martial prowess that could make trained military men and women look like toddlers. Seems like this may be more dangerous than we thought..."
"Hear that, folks? Lady with the spear and the fur jacket is highly dangerous. Take her out from a distance, if you can, as she is extremely competent at close range."
I don't intend on bringing her in right away, but...have another character.
rhylaen
^It's a guardian's job to protect people, and I am a guardian-in-training^
Real Name: rhylaen
Age: ~20
Gender: female
Alias/Nicknames: Rhy
Color Choice: mediumpurple Appearance: Rhylaen is a slight young woman, standing just five feet tall. She is clearly inhuman, her proportions subtly off, her eyes too large and brilliantly violet, and her ears sharply pointed. Dragonfly-like wings sprout from between her shoulder blades, reaching nearly to her ankles when folded down against her back. Her brown hair is cut unevenly, just shy of her shoulders. She favors greens and browns in her everyday dress, and usually her shirts are backless to accomodate her wings. She is never without her shortsword at her side. Personality: Rhylaen is eager-to-please, especially when it comes to people she sees as in a position to teach her something. She is very direct in her manner, and truthful to a fault. She is an idealist at heart, and this can make her seem naive. In truth, she's been exposed to the harshness of at least her own world, but has refused to let this jade her. She believes in the goodness of people's hearts, and that there is always common ground to be found. She is used to life being simple and straightforward, with a clearly defined enemy, and modern Earth is something of a shock to her system. Rhylaen is highly social, and not used to being on her own. Cut off from everything and everyone she knows, Earth is a struggle for her. History: Rhylaen is from the world of Tevran, a world in a different universe from Earth. Her kind, called rhyllae, mostly live in small towns in the forest of Lytharess, near a phenomenon known simply as the Rift. The Rift spawns monsters of many types, the worst of them being wraiths. Because of the threat, many of the rhyllae join a group called the guardians, and fight against the monsters of the rift. Rhylaen was in training to become such a guardian when an incursion resulted in wraiths reaching her town proper. As the oldest of the children, she took it upon herself to protect the others and distract the wraiths. Unfortunately for her, she was hit by the wraiths' most deadly attack -- a powered attack that was known to leave no trace of the target behind.
To her surprise, however, instead of being dead, she found herself in a strange place, surrounded by round-ears. Powerset:
Magic: Rhylaen is able to utilize magic, like most of her kind. Her primary attack is a burst of force, but she can produce a small fireball as well.
Flight: She is able to fly, and quite nimbly.
Darkvision: Like most of her kind, Rhy can see quite well in the dark. She does require some sort of light to make things out, but her vision in dim and dark conditions is far better than a human's.
Telepathy: Rhylaen can sense the presence of those around her. Although she generally cannot speak mind to mind with humans, physical contact allows her to touch the minds of others.
Equipment/Paraphernalia:
Shortsword: Her sword is a prized possession, and she is never without it if she has her way.
Weaknesses:
In Training: While she is nearly an adult, Rhylaen had not finished her training to be a guardian. This means there is still a great deal to learn about what she can do with her powers.
Offensive Telepathy: If her subject is unwilling, telepathic contact becomes more of a fight -- one that is as dangerous as a physical fight, if not more so.
Personal Code: Her kind has a code involving what one should and shouldn't do, telepathically speaking, and violating the minds of the unwilling is a serious breech of this code.
Concentration: Deeper mental contact requires concentration, leaving her vulnerable.
English as a Second Language: Since she comes from a different universe, at least initially Rhylaen does not speak any English. It will take her time to pick up the finer points of the languague.
Stranger in a Strange Land: Rhylaen's word was closer to a medieval level of technology, and a lot of modern conveniences baffle her.
The young rhyllae peeked out the window of the town hall with apprehension. Wraiths, this far from the rift? How had they gotten past the adults?! Rhylaen quickly ducked out of sight, and looked at the other children that clustered in the room. They were all scared and shaking, jewel-tone eyes in every hue looking back at her. She was the oldest in the room, and as a guardian-in-training, she felt responsible for the others' safety. ~Stay quiet,~ she told the others telepathically. ~If we're quiet, they won't find us!~ She didn't add the "I hope" that echoed loudly in her own mind. There was no cause to give the other children more reason to be afraid.
Wraiths were dangerous; everyone knew that. They had an attack that if it hit, it was instant death, leaving no body behind. That was why her village guarded the rift, making sure the wraiths never made it far from their point of origin. To be a guardian was as much an honor as it was a duty, but even the adults that weren't guardians knew how to fight wraiths, in case of a bad incursion.
And this was apparently the worst incursion they'd ever seen. Never before had wraiths made it past the defensive line, and Rhylaen feared what might have happened to the adults. She ventured another peek out the window, and immediately ducked back down. The wraiths were coming towards them! Much closer, and they'd be able to sense the children that hid from them. She had to do something, but what?!
Her thoughts spun. What could she do? An idea occurred to her, one she didn't want to do, but what other choice did she have? She was a guardian-in-training, and the safety of the others was her responsibility. She glanced at the others again, and braced herself. ~Everyone, listen up. I want you to stay quiet, and stay hidden. I...I'm going to go distract the wraiths.~ The others stared at her, but no one dared object.
Rising to her feet in a smooth motion, Rhylaen made her way quietly to the town hall entrance and slipped outside. The wraiths were closing in. She no longer had time to think.
"Hey ugly!" the young rhyllae cried, sending a burst of force at the nearest wraith. "Can't catch me!" And with that she took off at a dead run, the wraiths in hot pursuit. She dashed through the trees, wings aiding her leaps over fallen logs, heedless of branches and brambles grabbing at her hair and clothes. Adrenaline kept her from feeling the worst of the pain, and she'd have time to worry about the scratches later. Nor did she look over her shoulder to see if the wraiths were gaining. The creatures were fast. She didn't have to look to know that.
A surge of magic told her one of the wraiths was preparing its death-dealing attack. Rhylaen dodged around a tree, and then another, but the consistent hum of magic against her senses told her it was waiting for just the right moment to fling it at her.
And she was right. A careless moment was all it took, and the attack hit, magic swirling around her, darkness enveloping her.
At least the others are safe...
------
She woke with something gritty and hard against her cheek, and noise blaring in her ears. Rhylaen slowly got to her feet, checking herself over. She sported numerous small scratches from her mad dash through the forest, but other than that, she was fine. How am I alive? Did the wraith miss?
She looked around, but her surroundings were strange. Instead of trees, she was surrounded by buildings. Strange structures reached skyward in the distance. And nearby strange animals roamed what seemed to be tar-covered streets in neat lines. As she watched, a yellow beast ate a round-ear! She could see a second round-ear in the thing's stomach, too.
With a cry Rhylaen drew her sword, leaping towards the yellow beast and striking at it! But her blade glanced off its hide as if it had metal skin. Undeterred, she continued her attack, ignoring its deafening cries of anger and seeking a weak point. She stabbed at one of its several eyes, which shattered when her sword hit. People were watching, pointing. But none of them wanted to help. Maybe they were too scared to do anything?
The battle wore on, the yellow beast staying mostly still, with Rhylaen doing her best to incapacitate it to minimal effect. A rising noise, accompanied by blue and red lights, and round-ear in dark blue clothing shouted something she couldn't understand.
"Help me save them!" Rhylaen shot back, still trying to attack the yellow beast.
Then the round-ear pointed a hand at her, and something hit her, sending waves of pain through her body. She fell to the ground, unable to move. Why?! she tried to ask, but she couldn't manage the word. The round-ear was approaching with...manacles? Had she done something wrong? She was only trying to save the round-ears; why didn't he understand that?
I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~
