Over the passing of breakfast, Leon contemplated the journey ahead as well as the dangers that even Kettle feared. However, her public speaking was comforting and assuring that -even at the expense perhaps of another leg- the discover of the tree would be worth the undertaking of the difficult task. Getting outside and prepared to lead them, or perhaps be led by Grom, Leon was anxious to leave.
"I won't let you down, Kettle." He said, nervously mounting the creature. He didn't know much about Grom but so far the passive reaction was better than a negative one. At first Leon was sure that Grom still didn't like him, even though he hadn't seen him for who knows how long.
Seeing the distance between his location and his destination, Leon perspective of the journey changed. He thought it would be far more dangerous but flowers with petals as long as his good leg made him wonder if the forest ahead was actually really far away with massive trees that simply looked close. A certain forced perspective had him fooled until the wetlands seemed endless to the hunter. Just when he thought they'd take hours just to arrive the forest of massive plants. The smells were amazing, but looking at flowers had the hunter worried again. They could be poisonous or worse, man-eating.
A couple hours passed again and the Hunter was very pleased by the fact kettle let him ride on Grom. The cameldragon was much more appropriate for a long trip than a peg leg. Leon guessed he'd still be marching through wetlands if he hadn't been on Grom.
At a fallen tree Grom turned and lumbered toward a way around. Leon looked at it, wondering just how long it would take for something that size to decompose. Then it made him wonder about the creatures living inside that corpse of a wooden giant. Bugs were probably burrowed so deeply into the wood that it was probably hollow.
"Oh what's that?" Leon said out loud. His attention turned toward a glimmering in the distance. Beautiful with rays of a light beaming like a star on a clear night. "Woah that's a big rock. Hey, do you all see that over there?" Leon pointed to the massive pillar piercing the heavens. Getting closer on Grom, Leon wanted to stand but couldn't because the cameldragon went into a panic, taking him along. Something caught his attention. Looking ahead and holding on as tightly as possible, Leon hoped those left behind were not in danger.
Hearing Kettle behind him, he neared the tail of the Camel Dragon. Trying to keep himself on top of its back he also bent over and reached his hand out to Kettle. Perhaps she could get him calmed and tamed without getting lost in the unfamiliar forest. They'd probably not since that pillar was too big to ignore, however, the hunter didn't know what else to expect from this overgrown wilderness.
"Take my hand, I'll pull you up." he called outwith his right hand tightly gripped to the nearest object and the other stretched out like the branch of a tree during a storm -which is to say wildly flailing because Grom isn't exactly the smoothest ride.
In a matter of minutes, the areas between trees were covered in pools of fizzling acid and the corpses of Marlbo baby corpses. The area would carry a foul stench for months, much like the party who would be at the mercy of that smell for a long distance.
Their triumph over this hoard of invasive creatures would quickly become known as the forest around them lacked the sinister atmosphere. Where grass was still growing, the runners fed. Their riders were making their way through the forest again, this time at a more leisurely pace due to the constrain of the terrain.
Thick trees were pillars of the deepening forest. Between them other plants tried to survive and some flourished while others had to be more crafty. The moogle observed a large plant that looked like a big bucket with a round bottom. A frog on a tree hoped into the water inside but the plant reacted in an instant, closing its lips and sealing the frog inside.
"EW!" The seemed to be the only reaction the moogle had in this forest.
Ahead of the Party Koji was the scout, looking out for creatures like the Molboroba and more Marlbo babies. On the opposite side of the party was Cassius who was a good distance behind them. This formation allowed them to move through the forest and be warned about threats coming from in front and behind them. The only incidents so far was a report from the eastern warrior.
Heading back to the party with the knowledge of what's ahead, he would need to try mastering the language if wanted to properly describe the scene ahead.
The forest was hot like an oven, humid like swimming in water, and various aromas carried creatures into the poison petals of flowers. However in the heart of this jungle was a monument of nature's creation, perhaps of a Primal's doing.
A large nest was made in the center of a huge tree which was nearly as wide across as the Navire Court Room. It lifted it branches far above the other tree's highest point, but yet it could not be seen from the ground level as the fight over sunlight would block out the sky and inhibit the view of those trying to look up. However, the eastern warrior was moving from within the canopy. He saw the tree and could report its location.
What would he say and how would the party react to the giant tree?
Weapons follow this pattern of improvement: +2, +1, +2, +1 etc. (Hooray for people who keep to the simple stuff!)
Duration of masks cannot be improved nor uses per day. (You should focus on maximizing your burst strategies)
Fused Shadow Pieces now have their own bonus points aside from character stats. (Minadi you magic stat is now 5)
Because items are situational and stats just are always important, I've decided to give bonus points to situational items.
Weapons were originally just ways to facilitate one's own strength at a certain range.
As in without a weapon you could only do the punching and kicking off butt. So melee range weapons, when imporved using growth, will give +2 strength every other time it's improved.
So lets say you used a sword that gives you +1 at melee. If you improve your use of the sword then it's plus 3 at melee instead. Then when you improve it again it's +4.
If you had multiple weapons with multiple ranges then you'd probably want to stick to adding strength to your character since improving just 1 weapon pales in comparision to buffing your strength.
Lets say I had 3 weapons, one of each range. I could improve 1 for increasing its bonus to plus 3. (I gained 2 points essentially) but If i gave myself another point in strength then I've essentially added +3 as each weapon will benefit from my additional strength more so than focusing on a weapon could.
BUT Now we need to focus on Masks.
Majoras Mask and the Fierce Deity Mask have unexpected granted their wearers far too many powers. COmpared to other character they are very much godlike.
Lets start with Majora's Mask.
Floating, Telekinesis, and Telepathy are both granted to the wearer along with +2 strength.
Floating is a way to ignore terrain: float above water. Telepathy is another way to speak to different characters from again. Both are situationally useful but don't do much for mechanics.
Telekinesis on the otherhand extends's Pallus's range from melee to medium but with no bonus. If each of these benefits were a point
Float =1, Telekin =1, Telepa =1, +2 strength =2 then the total comes to 5 points. Compared to a measly weapon, MM is a powerhouse.
So how does this get balanced? Duration. MM can only be used for 6 posts at a time, 1 more post if one spends a point in magic. The cool down time about a day so it makes it hard to pick and choose when the mask should be used.
Then there's the FDM which is a bit more broken due to unapproved bonuse like with MM.
Increased Speed, Magic Projectiles, Increased Agility, Weapon transformation and +2 points in strength look like 6 points.
Already 1 point above MM, the FDM is considerably OP compared to a regular weapon. How can it be limited? Well for 1 the Magic Projectile uses his Magic. It being a long range spell has no secondary effect. The improved weapon is only cosmetic and doesn't give a range bonus. The speed increase is mostly cosmetic and the same for the increase agility (ie jumping a long distance) but combined they launch him to just about any range he wishes. Allowing him to always fight at melee range if he wanted to.
The big limitation is the durtion of 6 posts and the once per day use of the mask.
So just how can we compare weapons to Masks when they are clearly overpowering?
Well depends on the situation. This rp involves many more things than combat and characters can expect to fight more than once per day. In the long run, weapons will prove to always be useful but masks are like a peak with a long slope downward and long way back up the mountain.
To keep things fair Mask durations cannot be increased via growth. The number of times a day a mask can be used also cannot increase from character growth.
Next we have somewhat similar items to masks: Pieces of the fused shadow.
With Minadi, the FS gives +2 to magic which is actually reflecting the initial bonus granted to a new character. For inheritance minadi has the burning spell which does 1 damage each turn for 3 turns. Of all weapons the burning spell can actually be exhausted quickly, only having 3 uses per day unless Minadi's magic is restored by a potion or other method.
With Ulu, the FS is actually supposed to act like minadi's but is written as if giving +2 magic like a constant mask.
Well, I have good news and bad news.
The bad new is I was wrong to have approved minadi's FS piece.
The good news is that minadi's FS piece will now act like Ulu's with a plus 2 to magic asside from the character bonus.
The reason: spells are far more situational than masks and weapons as they drain magic and become weaker with use where both masks and weapons will outlast in combat.
"EEEP" Mikone yelled as the genin was thrown at her. It seemed their sensei wasn't against using ninjutsu against them if needed. Having little time to move she ducked down just in time for the boy to land on her. "Owe! You're heavy." Crawling out from undeneath him she looked at their teacher. His techniques were far above their level to fight.
"Back away from him, he'll just throw your tools away. Hey! Masatake!" The girl was having enough of them. Couldn't they tell that their teacher was controlling the battle with every move? Perhaps she was just being paranoid but she didn't want to get close to their sensei. And now that he revealed a technique she wondered if he had many more like it.
"Our sensei is from the Nara clan, he can use the shadows!" It dawned on the girl that a student in their class was a Nara who could use shadow techniques to bind people. This was a far more functional technique than that one though. Mikone hoped that she'd be able to find someway to help the battle but it looked like her techniques, both requiring a less powerful opponent.
Looking at Fukusho she wondered how he'd been hurt. Right now the best option was to get him out of harm's way. "Fukusho, let's get you out of the way, we can watch Masatake and see what our teacher does... then we can plan ahead." The young women hoped she wouldn't have to pull him by the arms toward a location further away.
So here's a rough map to scale of the area. As you can see there's a main road leading down to the lake. On the road is the village which has 3 other main streets aside from the long rout going through part of it. There's obviously more roads within the village but those are the main 4.
1: the potion maker's shack. 2: The hero club 3: current location of most the party.
Need some miles?
From point 3 to point 1 is roughly 1 mile.
As for how everyone got to the beach so quick... well don't look under the rug. xD I just dusted.
