Trying to wrap my head around the new tools and bits of the site. Well done, Mahz.

Bio

Née 1991. I feel old already.

Been roleplaying from the age of 15, write on solo projects in my spare time. I heartily encourage interaction when it comes to writing and creative efforts. Like to think I'm an understanding but stern and solid GM when I host games, and a collaborative and creative individual. Used to draw. Write in advanced section.

While I might not be as omni-present a some of you are on RP:G, I have been a part of it since 2009-2010 (if my memory serves me right). However, I must admit that post Guildfall, my activity also dropped. Slowly getting back into things.

I attended university to acquire my master's degree in history. I already had an educational degree for history and English, and am teaching both in secondary school. Any questions? Ask.

A Wild Hunt - A Witcher Roleplay

(collaborative effort with the lovely @Yennefer)

Introduction and OOC Information:

Hello boys and girls and welcome to this RP that takes place in the world of Sapkowski and CDProjekt Red's The Witcher. Set before the events of game number three, the Witcher: The Wild Hunt, players will be part of a group of adventurers. Read more below. This is an interest check for now, we'll see how many people might like such a story. Opinions also welcome!

Who are we looking for? People of all shapes and sizes, ICly and OOCly. We are starting around the outskirts of Novigrad. The world of the Witcher is as diverse as it is atmospheric. In these times of war and contempt, humankind is rife with bigotry and extremism towards those that are different. Elves and dwarves terrorise the countryside, banding together in what are known as scoia'tael commandos. Sorceresses and sorcerers are prosecuted and burnt at the stake. Yet all of this conflict and bias make for interesting characters to breathe life into. Will you play a stigmatised mage in hiding, a witch hunter, a priest or temple guard, an acrobatic thief or spy, an alchemist, a knight, a disenfranchised noble, a bounty hunter, an elf freedomfighter or dwarven guerrilla, a Nordling partisan,...? There will also be a few places for those wishing to portray a witcher themselves. When developing your character, try and include a reason as to why they would be part of this mission to investigate the Wild Hunt.

IC Outline:

The world is in chaos. The air is thick with tension and the smoke of burnt villages. The fearsome Empire of Nilfgaard crossed the River Yaruga, ravaging the helpless Northern Kingdoms. For these were plunged into bedlam after the deaths of several of their monarchs, Foltest and Henselt among them. In these uncertain times, no one can say what fortune holds in store, who will bring peace to the world and who will cause it only misery. But a force darker and deadlier than war emerges.

The petty men and women commanding tin-plated armies fail to understand that their conflict is child's play compared to the Wild Hunt, the otherworldly threat which now looms. These ghastly spectral riders have for ages plagued the world, bringing misery and death. It is rumoured they herald war and calamity. What better age then, for them to harry the skies? Yet, it seems they have an unholy purpose in mind. A group of professionals has been assembled. Their purpose: find out what the Wild Hunt is after, where it will strike and why.

Dijkstra, that most atypical spy, has returned from exile in secret. Occupied with carving out his personal criminal empire in metropolitan Novigrad, the former head of Redania’s secret service has one eye on the events of the world. King Radovid and Emperor Emhyr grapple with one another for the fate of the North, but have seemingly no interest in the underlying threat that is the Wild Hunt. Once again, or so he tells himself, it falls to him to keep watch, to mount an investigation. Whose shoulders but his should carry the weight of the world?

Well… apart from those brave or desperate few that will be his eyes and ears in the field.

Setting Resources:

Rules:

  • GMs are currently @Yennefer and I. Feel free to contact us whenever you require assistance or information. Other GMs may be appointed as the RP progresses. Don't feed us after midnight.
  • High-casual standards; this means a common sense approach; game of logic and collaboration.
  • Character Sheets should be posted on the OOC (though they can be sent via pm as well) for approval/disapproval. Not all decisions will be made public.
  • You are assumed to be an adult by submitting a character for this game; please act like one.
  • Players are allowed to play as witchers, but we do not want them to be endemic. For now, the limit of witcher characters is capped at 3.
  • Applications may take a few days before a decision can be made. Generally issues will be resolved over pm.
  • Players are encouraged to play typically one-on-one scenarios, small group scenarios, cloak-and-dagger scenarios, small plots and large plots. To be creative, and to interact with their fellow players on their own to plot is expected. Take initiative.
  • Players are allowed to play as more than one character, however preferably start out with just one.
  • While an overarching plot will be provided, input and suggestions are welcome. This is a collaborative writing effort.
  • More to be added as necessary
I'll begin work on an OOC.

Name: Callum “Callous” Greyjoy, the Butcher of Blackcrown
Age: 51
House/Affilitation: House Greyjoy, the Iron Islands

Description:
Callum is a big, physically imposing man who has a great many scars, including such curiosities as a wound through his stomach and out his back from a duel with Ghiscari champion wielding a spear. He has many scars over his asymmetrical face, a bent often-broken nose, and a big notch out of one ear. Bearded like a robber, his hair is greying at the temples and fringes, age finally catching up with him. His most noticeable scars, and the source of his name are his tormented hands and forearms - burnt, slashed, chafed. Thick marks like coiled snakes wrap around his forearms, where the coarse rope had dug into his flesh. Holding fast on the lines of the mast during a heavy storm had stripped Callum of most of his skin and flesh, but earned him a name. Even so, Callum has long clever fingers, a tangled mess of rough ginger hair, and deeply set dark blue eyes beneath a heavy brow.

Callum has led a gruelling life according to the Old Ways, raiding and pillaging from the Sunset Sea to the Spice routes of Essos. He has been to Slaver’s Bay, visited Qarth, forayed into the jungles of Sothoryos and the Summer Isles. He has berthed in all of the Free Cities and drank in every inn and fucked in every whorehouse from Lannisport to Volantis. Callum killed his first man, a Rills’ crofter, at the tender age of thirteen, when his bellicose uncles took him along as a deckhand but instead found a talented killer in him.

Ever since, Callum has contributed to the dark history of the Ironborn himself, writing entire chapters in the blood of his enemies... and as an Ironborn, the world was your enemy. There is not a coast that knows not his name, not a graveyard without a corpse that he put there. Blood, gold, booze and girls, those were the deities worshipped by Callum the Callous for decades. A veteran raider, Callum is both capable of instinctive actions during a fight and employing calculated tactics.

Now an aging Ironborn, time and his conscience are catching up with him. He has, every year, always found himself with less friends and more enemies. Blood has only led him to more blood, a fact Callum is sick of. He is hoping to become a better man than he was, serve his kinsman the Red Kraken in a different way. Since his last raid, when he and his crew sacked a sept filled with innocents, Callum has started thinking on his life. He has lost all pride and vanity, discarding all the trinkets and golden jewellery he had paid the iron price for. The veteran now dwells on his failures and regrets.
I am interested in joining on if you are still accepting? I am new to this forum but not to RPing; I have run and participated in numerous RPs of a similar sort. If you feel you would benefit from a sample of my writing to help you make a decision, I am happy to provide one

I'm quite confident when I say that you can still write up an entry :). Also, welcome to the site!

According to my conversations with Sini, I think House Peake and their ward will be en route for the coronation.

@Sini Correct me if I'm wrong.

Raynalt and Caspar Peake, and Grace Redwyne are in KL. So is Morningwood.
<Snipped quote by Sini>

There is ample room for either of those I guess. We could have rivalry from the combat during the civil war, friendship from travelling Amreth or for the steward I guess we could go with economic dealings. Did you have any preference?

Morningwood and Amreth could have had a lot of dealings up to now. Being in the Crownlands, upriver of the Blackwater, means whatever economic produce they have and could export, would be shipped to King's Landing. So, economic ties are a good place to start. Were they cordial or based on bribery? ;)

The Peakes entered the war rather late, and lost their previous lord to a rabid dragon at Tumbleton. The three sons are quite different from one another, so while I do think they ought to know and respect one another (perhaps travelling Amreth stayed at one of the Peake castles and vice versa) open friendship is something we'd have to solidify during the RP. Unless you see a different approach working better?
I suppose I should see if anyone feels like building some backstory with everyone's favourite crownlands minor lords, the Amreth. I'm open for good/bad/whatever histories really.

The Peakes have travelled extensively, and then there is everyone's favourite cripple Willie Morningwood. He's been posted in the capital for several years now, so it's plausible to have some history there.
