Love the idea but have literally zero knowledge of the world. Will that be an issue or can I get all I need to know from recap videos and a bit of reading around?

You should be able to get by with a little bit of research into the franchise, mainly just checking into the different bio-weapons Umbrella created and occasionally some of the characters.

October 1998. In the wake of the Raccoon City Destruction Incident, the Umbrella Corporation is in dire straights. Under investigation by nearly every government in the world and the UN, combined with the loss of one of their main bases of operation and with their paramilitary force in shambles, the pharmaceutical company is forced to take drastic measures. Their Umbrella Security Service black ops unit was all but wiped out with the exception of Alpha Team leader HUNK, the "Grim Reaper." Now with additional attacks from anti-Umbrella organizations and prying eyes on the company, they need elite soldiers more than ever before. The dust has barely settled in Raccoon, but Umbrella is not sitting by idly waiting for their demise.

New soldiers and mercenaries are being recruited for a reformation of the U.S.S. and the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service. HUNK himself will continue to lead U.S.S.'s Alpha Team with members of his own choosing, but a second unit is needed as well for some of the less-than-desirable missions - biohazard clean-ups, assassinations, and other "dirty" wet work. Thus Umbrella reforms the U.S.S. Delta Team, previously killed on the Ecliptic Express train, for immediate deployment. Dubbed "Team Biohazard" out of contempt by the upper management, none of these new recruits are expected to live long. U.S.S. members are expendable assets, after all. That's why they are paid so handsomely for their work in the first place.

As our story begins, the newest recruits of "Team Biohazard" are just arriving at their new base of operations in Carson City, Nevada. From here they will be able to deploy anywhere around the world on short notice for any reason Umbrella requires. From assassinating rogue personnel, to cleaning up biohazard outbreaks, and even fighting terrorists along the way if it's in the company's best interests, one thing is for sure: there is no rest for the wicked.

OOC Information/Rules Outline

Hello. I'm Sinister, the GM of this RPG. This is a special one for me, a rebirth of a game I ran consistently for over six years back in the day. The basic premise is that we are playing the bad guys, the Umbrella Security Service, the agents in gas masks as show in Resident Evil 2 and Operation Raccoon City that go around doing Umbrella's dirty work. You will be taking on the role of a new recruit to Umbrella Security Service Team Delta a.k.a. "Team Biohazard." Your character should have some kind of prominent military background i.e. former special forces soldier, mercenary, etc that is highly skilled in combat usually with some kind of specialized skill making you a unique addition to the team.

This will be your typical Advanced type game with some more lengthy posts and hopefully a pretty consistent pace. I understand we all get busy from time to time so I'm not going to set any guidelines for a set number of required posts, but if lack of participation becomes an issue I may reach out or mention this in a OOC headliner to my post. I'm always willing to work with everyone, though, and worst case we can just turn your character into an NPC for a time or come up with a work around. I'm fairly laid back and just looking to have a good time, as should you be. With the nature of the U.S.S. there will likely be a lot of military jargon and language and this is an "Adults Only" deal. There will be descriptive details of violence, gore, murder, cursing etc. Please keep that in mind before joining.

Gameplay structure will consist of introduction, mission, and then debriefing if required. Intro basically would be everyone getting called in for a mission at HQ and sitting down for the briefing before taking whatever transportation to the mission location. Then the mission itself occurs, which is pretty self-explanatory. There will be certain mission objectives that the team will be trying to accomplish while also just trying to stay alive. I create very detailed groups of enemies for these missions. For example we will come up against terrorists, anti-Umbrella groups, and more. Each group can have several top members that we will get to face off with, sort of like "boss battles" in a video game. When going up against these groups I will post full biographies and details on them and let people pick who they might have an epic and fun fight with. Missions can go several ways, usually starting out as a group and then getting separated or splitting up. Really it is up to you guys and gals what you want to do. I love giving my peers a lot of freedom to plan out what they want to do on any given mission, working around certain plot points and climatic events. If required there may be some "aftermath" stuff dealing with the mission's conclusion before moving on to the next.

Player cap usually worked best with around 6 or 7 players including myself, at least for the time being. Those interested should use the character sheet template below and create their character and submit it for approval. All I ask is to keep it realistic and try to have as little connection to established characters in canon as possible. For example, please don't make a character that just so happened to be in the Air Force with Chris Redfield or went to the gun range with Barry Burton. These characters should all be fresh to the horrors of the Umbrella Corporation, essentially mercenary outsiders let in at a time of desperation. My character has a slight variation of this having worked briefly with HUNK, but this is done as a plot point as to why they'd entrust him as Commander of Delta Team.

The canon of Resident Evil can be a bit tricky, but we are going to be following the main established timeline. One of the biggest things this means is that the "what-if" game Operation Raccoon City is out. It has cool concepts you can feel free to use as inspiration, but the events of that game and its original characters and events didn't happen in the canon. If you have any questions about what I consider canon please feel free to ask. There's no such thing as a stupid question, this series is somewhat complicated. And hopefully it's obvious by now but this is based on the video games NOT the films. Other than that, I can't think of much else.

If you read this part, then you know what I'm going for. I don't think I need to set up a redundant set of rules so let's move on.

Character Biographies

Below you will find my character's full bio for inspiration. The hider at the bottom has a blank copy of the character sheet for you convenience.

Name: Ryder James Hunt
Codename: Scythe
Alias(s): Reaper, Jr. or R.J.
Affiliation: USS Delta Team a.k.a. "Team Biohazard"
Position: Commander & Weapons Specialist

Current Age: 29
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 260 lbs
Build: Muscular
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Blood Type: A

Unique Physical Features/Scars/Tattoos:
- USMC tattoo on his right arm
- Knife scar running from right shoulder down to his stomach

Personality/Psych Evaluation: Scythe is the kind of soldier that always gets the job done; he is completely loyal to his employers and will carry out any orders given without hesitation. He doesn't let his conscious or emotions get in the way of the mission and, as such, he tends to distance himself on a personal level from the men under his command. Scythe is typically very calm and collected, exerting professionalism and precision. However, he is prone to occasional temporary fits of rage when under extreme stress or duress, psychotically lashing out at friend and foe alike.

Special Skills (3):
- Expert with nearly every type of firearm
- Skilled marksman
- Gifted strategist and military tactician

Secondary Skills (2):
- Skilled driver and helicopter pilot
- Deadly with bladed weaponry, particularly combat knives

History: Scythe was born Ryder James Hunt in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He lived a normal life in an upper-middle class family; as a teenager he had a few run-ins with the law, but it was never anything beyond misdemeanor charges. At age 16, everything changed when both of his parents were killed in a car accident. He had no other family to take him in, so Ryder dropped out of high school and lived on his own for two years, taking on odd jobs and moving from place to place, although he later still managed to obtain a GED.

At the age of 18, Ryder enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He slowly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a Sergeant. He was able to attend college during his time between deployments in the Gulf War and obtained a degree in history and philosophy from a small liberal arts college. At age 23, Ryder was hand-picked to become a member of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, a.k.a. Delta Force. During his roughly three year attachment to the secretive Special Forces group, Ryder participated in an unspecified number of missions across the globe, the nature of which remains highly classified; even Umbrella is unable to access the majority of these records.

At the age of 26, Ryder was dishonorably discharged from Delta Force and the United States military after an incident involving the deaths of nearly two dozen civilians on a mission in Latin America; he maintains his innocence to this day and when asked will only state it was a set-up. As a result of his discharge, Ryder soon struck out as a gun for hire, becoming a freelance mercenary. Ryder was briefly employed by a private military company called Replace International, although he resigned after only around six months, and returned to working solo. He took pretty much any job offered, occasionally working as a bodyguard, assassin, military advisor, and combat trainer.

In late 1998, Ryder was contacted by the Umbrella Corporation about employment in the Umbrella Security Service (USS). Following the loss of most of their operators in Raccoon City, they were desperate to fill the ranks of their personal army with highly skilled, yet trustworthy soldiers such as himself. Ryder served for a brief time in USS Alpha Team with legendary commando "HUNK" where he proved his worth alongside the “Grim Reaper" himself, including a mission to deliver an unknown container to Rockfort Island.
Due to his (albeit brief) experience and reputation, Ryder was assigned to be the commander of the newly reformed USS Delta Team.

Conclusion

That's pretty much everything. I hope there is a lot of interest, this is a passion project of mine I greatly miss. Looking forward to hearing from you!
As life often goes, haven't been around in a while but I've been having an itch to do a little role-playing and writing. So, here we go again!
So my idea is to have a historical game set during the Civil War in which the dead rise to attack the living. A small group of Union and Confederate soldiers are then forced to put their differences aside and join forces to survive. Blue. Grey. The only thing that matters now is the color of blood and your will to survive. Thinking this would start potentially in the immediate aftermath of Gettysberg. My character would be a Confederate officer. Looking forward to blasting zombies with a LeMatt revolver and severing limbs with my officer's sword.

Just seeing who would be interested in this.
I might be interested depending on the specifics. Are we a motorcycle gang like Sons of Anarchy, or are we a gang that lives on the streets and free runs/jumps around the rooftops?

There's a lot of ways to go about it.
