Zhevon listened to Caths explanations, and how that Guardsmen were at the whim of the Inquisitors. He knew that they were, but hearing it first hand had put it more into perspective. Zhevon was privileged, luckily or unluckily, compared to the common Guardsman. He was picked up by the one a Lord Inquisitor, and made into an acolyte when he was young. He grew into becoming an Inquisitor. The details about her mission only confirmed that a veteran spy was supposed to take this task, not a rookie like her.
She looked at her chest and explained that she had undergone some obligatory alterations. Alterations? Zhevon looked at her chest and tried to figure out what she meant. Did they put some sort of tech-heresy in place of her heart or lungs? Or maybe improved organs? What was she talking abo-
Zhevon stopped, it finally clicking into place, he looked away and mumbled an apology. Rubbing the back of his neck.
His com link crackled to life, with Adrianne speaking up from it. He heard rubble moving in the background, what had happened?
"Adrianne here, I made it to the kitchen! But the valkyrie hovering around the house is definitely not friendly. It's ill temper is only matched by its heavy armaments. I recommend caution." She warned.
A Valkyrie? He got up and ran to the nearby window, sticking his head out of it. Lo and behold, there was definitely a Valkyrie in a gunship configuration hovering nearby. The heavy bolter on its side door was smoking. He spotted that it had two wing mounted rocket pods and two nose mounted lascannons. There probably was another heavy bolter on the other side too. He muttered a curse, his looted laspistol wouldn't do anything to that. Then he heard the rumble of distant thunder, but there was no storm. Imperial Guard artillery. He sprinted back to Cath and covered her with his body. Then the shells hit. A split second of sharp whistles, immediately after, the heavy thuds of the shells hitting. Immediately after, the explosions. Zhevon counted eight, maybe ten impacts. Zhevon felt the impacts of rubble hitting his back and heard the sharp whipping sound of shrapnel shooting through the air, hitting walls and furniture like bullets.
A battery of up to ten Earthshaker Cannons, 132mm, firing HE rounds. It only took roughly 13 seconds from firing to impact, meaning they weren't at their maximum range. The gun crews probably wouldn't be firing at battle speeds either. Giving them maybe another half minute or so until the next salvo, then another 13 seconds until impact. If they were firing another salvo.
43 seconds.
Three seconds later, as debris was still falling from the strike, Zhevon shook off the rubble and dust from his back and looked at the window. The entire wall was gone, he ran to the edge and noticed the Valkyrie had been hit, now smoking on the ground, on fire and in pieces. A little smile appeared on his lips, his luck was looking pretty good. He ran back to Cath and checked her if any shrapnel had hit her. On the way, he saw a piece of Valyrie wing embedded into the wall above them. Lucky indeed.
He pressed his comm, "Can you teleport us to your location? The Valkyrie is down." He asked Adrianne. For once he wanted the Imperial Guard artillery crews to be a little slower than usual.
