Oh no, I completely understand wanting to keep the US intact, if only for some time. There's always a point at which a country grows tired of fighting, especially with themselves. Hell, we don't even need the Natives to succeed in achieving independence; it's simply their goal, one that may not actually be achieved. It would be interesting to see only a resurgence of Native resistence, as opposed to either side succeeding. Not saying you're wrong about the rather small size of the Native population, but I think there's more that should be taken into account. 1. The Natives would seek to establish communes. This would be a rather welcoming idea to leftists in the US--and with both the leftist remnants of the past wars and the rise of conservatism, the idea of a vast expanse of communes would be a welcome sight. If there wouldn't be leftists joining the group, there'd still be some amount of support. 2. International aid. No doubt some governments would be interested in a left-wing independence movement, be they for or against it. This can be game changing for both sides; say, if the Spanish aided the US in stopping the movement, or the Chinese aided the Natives. 3. Guerrilla warfare can be a powerful method--and who else to take part in it than the Native Americans? 4. The past few conflicts have exhausted the whole damn continent--though I guess it's ultimately up to you to decide your country's military power. Forgive me if I sound condescending; in all honesty, that's not my intent, and I hope that's not the effect. Again, this is just to suggest that this goes beyond population. You're most likely right, in that on their own, they may not get very far. It is for this reason that they would likely seek international aid or attempt to swell their numbers by receiving a large influx of leftist supporters across the country. The latter would, of course, be a decision entirely up to you--one which I am sure you wouldn't permit ;) I'm not gonna make a guess at the numerical size of the natives; that's another fact that'd be up to you. Assuming this faction gets allowed in at all, are there any ground rules you'd have about their existence? They are in your country, after all.
I'M BAAAAAAAAAACK! Man, it's really been a long time since I've been here. From what I've heard, a lot's been changed; some stuff is non-canon now, and new players are in the mix. It really is unbelievable for a nearly 4-year-old forum series. For the record, I'd just like to go ahead and say that no, I'm not here to pick the reigns back up with the Russian Republic; honestly, I never really did a good job telling their story in the first place, and frankly I just can't bring myself to playing as the Somalia of the world (it's just something I'd neither enjoy nor be able to really do well at all). I would, however, like to take on a whole new story. I've had two ideas in mind: 1. Revival of an idea that another user had back on the minecraft forums, i.e. a "Balkan League" of various Marxist-Leninist states (Bulgaria, Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia, and possibly Greece). The original one has since become non-canon, but I feel like a new and unrelated one could be made. 2. The idea I'm more in favour of--a union of Native American tribes (i.e. Sioux, Shoshone, Blackfeet, Nez Perce, Cheyenne, Comanche, etc.) who wish to rebel against the US and transform the western coast into large-scale tribal communes. This is obviously the most tricky to make work, as newcomer Byrd Man is in control of the US and might not be entirely happy about this idea. But hey, we can always work it out OOC...right? Of course, there's always several other nations I could take control of, but honestly these two ideas just stick out to me. Again, concerning the second one, there'd always have to be some OOC communication between me and Byrd Man, and I'd have to refrain from doing anything questionable (i.e. making some US citizens "rebel" too, control enemy forces, etc.). Still, I guess the ideas are out there now. And in any case, even if it's only for a short time, it's good to be back. :) (EDIT: For the uninitiated, I was the guy who wrote up the Russian Republic under the username RevanRedeemed. Just for clarification.)

Standing near Valjean is not a good idea. He's turning the area into a superhot desert

No, I meant you had a point, not him. I really gotta be better about using vague pronouns. i see both sides of it. This RP's leaning more towards vaguely pseudoscientific but at the same time the majority of things are outright supernatural. I think the supernatural nature of things is okay (ex. Lynn's shadow) provided there are concrete/realistic limitations on it. For example, there's no way Gabe's lasers could ever be a real thing, but they still burn her hands/take energy like they would if they were somehow possible. I think Jazzy's concern is just that if powers get to where they're purely supernatural, it becomes that much more difficult to decide where to draw the lines of plausibility.Or something, I dunno.

Yeah, I agree; there may be a point where it becomes difficult to say what would be "realistic" or not. I'm not a GM, obviously, and therefore have no real authority to draw lines anywhere, but personally I think we should draw the line when someone tries to make themselves use the might of a "higher power", aka God. Such a thing would add an important detail to an entire universe that is not theirs to (fully) define, only to take part in. It's either be that, or—as the rules already say—instakill powers.

Mr Allen J said I'm about to start the match, so Konstantyn could chill in the observation deck with Adam and the others.

Cool, will do.
Scrub? u wot m8?

But really, I'm not contesting what he says. Like I said, the guy knows more about photons than I do.
Ah, acceptance! Many thanks for allowing me to be a part of this storymaking process.

On the matter of the imminent CTF match, is it a tad bit too late for Konstantyn's participation? If need be, he can be in an observational position.

Leonerdo said Binding photons to form solid matter or something resembling solid matter is confusing. Maybe if you're able to draw it in and condense it, it will make a beam. But since protons and energy in general is pretty free floating, it would lose its shape pretty quickly and thusly its power. But it is still condensed, so all that probably explains why you're feeling a punch and not being downright incinerated.

Look, I'm not a particle physicist; I dunno how "solid light" might function. All I know is that it *might* fit in a universe of talking panda-people and autonomous shadows.

Now, Space Communist, we already have a pyromancer, Ella, who pretty much as the same power as Konstantyn.

Ah, I did not realize there was another pyromancer in the RP. I must have missed her as I looked through various character sheets. In reality, I imagine there would almost certainly be multiple users of the same powers, but since this is an RP, I suppose I shall find another. I have already spent the night thinking of an alternative that might be less powerful (and more defensive than offensive), and will edit the character sheet accordingly (as I'm a stubborn man, I'd rather partially keep what I've written than make an entirely new design).

Mr Allen J said I also think that his personality could be expanded a bit more.

Alright, I can do that.

EDIT (to avoid a double post): I have updated Konstantyn's sheet. I've replaced his elemental power with a cosmic and a spatial one, the former being less offensive and more defensive, and the second being evasive. (Before you say it, if you should rather I get rid of one of the powers, I will do so, as I suspect you may not be happy with him having two.) I have also tweaked his appearance and bio just a little to replace the fire-power traits mentioned in them with the new ones. Not to mention, I have also doubled the length of his personality!
Posted a character sheet in the deposit. And it's an original this time!

Also, after some considerable thought (aka one second of daydreaming), I decided to scrap the Mule. He was already a carbon copy, and while an emotional manipulator would be interesting, I doubt that right now is the time for him. Besides, might as well try to have an original before a based-off character!

Mr Allen J said And personally, this is not directed at you Feisty-Pants, this is directed at everyone, I want less offensive powers in the RP, and more powers to fill the other classes.

Aaaaaaaaand of course I see this after spending an hour and a half creating a character. To be fair, I intended for the focus to be on him being foreign moreso than him possessing pyrotechnic abilities. I can, of course, change anything if necessary, and once again I am open to any and all criticism.
Name: Konstantyn Borzeki
Nickname/Alias/Etc: N/A
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 143 lbs
Status: New Student

Appearance

Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Ethnicity: Polish (White)
Physical Appearance: Konstantyn's appearance, unlike many other meta-humans, is little out of the ordinary. His skin is white with a greyish tinge to it. His face, despite the dull skin tone, is often radiating with confidence. He usually has some amount of stubble across his cheeks, chin, and upper lip, though it never grows beyond a 5-o'clock shadow. His hair is short and neat, with a small widow's peak just at the top of his forehead. He is by no means a big person, but he is slightly bulky around the forearms and legs. In contrast, he is less massive in the body and shoulders, but not too noticeably. Additionally, two large scars lie on the upper-portion of his arm from a car accident, and he is missing a pinky toe as a result of a birth defect. Neither of these anomalies are related to, give additional strength, nor take away from his abilities.
Attire: Konstantyn adorns a grey button-up shirt with red horizontal stripes, khaki pants with black suspenders, and a dull, worn-out pair of black sneakers. He also likes to wear a small Polandball pin wherever he goes.

Personality

Outward & Innate Personality: He is a friendly character, but will not hesitate to defend himself in the face of those who'd mock him, his parents, or his home country. Despite an incomplete understanding of the English, Konstantyn can hold a lengthy conversation with his American peers. In these discussions, he can be very revealing about his personality, in that he is a man (erm, teen) who enjoys having fun. Family is his primary concern to him, and the lengthy distance from his brothers, sisters, and mother in the slums of NYC no doubt makes him anxious and homesick at times. When fighting, he will use his cunning, but often times he finds himself too "in the moment" to think clearly. Even with a difference in nationality--and, as a result of that, culture--he will still make his best attempts to get along well with his American peers. In the face of a challenge, Konstantyn will gladly take on whatever stands in his way. He tends to be as polite as he can, but can get jovial and loud after a while. But behind this mask of a jolly Polish teen, Konstantyn still remembers his impoverished childhood, and will try anything he can to put his past behind him. As a result, he feels a sense of kinship towards others who have also had a life of poverty, but--knowing how difficult memories of financial instability can be to deal with--he will not try to make it the focus of conversation.
Hobbies/Interests: As a newcomer to the Western hemisphere, Konstantyn spends a lot of time reading English books to improve his secondary vocabulary. But, of course, this doesn't particularly interest him; as a matter-of-fact, he'd much rather be doing any sort of activities outside. He he has a musical taste for both Polish music and 60's rock from the West.
Skills/Talents: Konstantyn can breakdance. He can also, obviously, speak Polish.
Prized Possession: The letters he receives from his family.
Quote(s):

"Individually, we are but weak little twigs. However, when we work together, we become--as you Americans say--a mighty faggot."

"Hey, look at this word! Ce-pha-li-za-tion! It is funny to me."

History/Bio: Born in one of the many poor suburbs of Krakow, Konstantyn Borzeki lived a life of rough labour and struggling. The Polish boy and his family desired to move West to New York City, where they might make a better living than in their European slums. For 8 years, Konstantyn and his family worked hard to earn the money to move to the New World; however, just when things looked to be in their reach, a horrible car accident happened, killing his father and terrible injuring his brother's arm, which later had to be amputated. Luckily for the young meta-human, Konstantyn himself only got two cuts just below his right shoulder. Regardless, this crippled the income for the family. Many a night now had to be spent without dinner just so that they could continue to save up for their escape to a better life. Just when things looked grim and hopeless for Matka Borzeki and her children, Konstantyn discovered that he could "focus" light in front of him; using this "magic", he began to use this to make even more money for the family to leave for America. The financial enterprise did not work for long when others wished to see more of this mysterious power, leaving the boy unable to produce anything else over the course of 3 years. Still, it did provide enough for the family to make just barely enough to catch a trip overseas to NYC. Their dream was now a possibility! They could finally go to America, the land of opportunity! After arriving in Manhattan, the family settled in a new slum, but within merely 3 days time Matka Borzeki acquired a well-paying job, enough for her to pay the expenses of her single-parent family and eat and rest as she needed!

However, before she could enroll all three of her children to a public school, Matka Borzeki received a letter, inviting one Konstantyn Borzeki to attend the meta-human Academy program in a distant on-campus school (at the time unspecified). Apparently, word of the boy with "solid light" spread across the slums of Krakow to an Academy secretary (not from 218, of course) who, by chance, was visiting relatives in Poland. Hearing this tale, the bureaucrat investigated the rumor and discovered a little impoverished boy and his family heading off to America, the boy in question now who could now not only focus even more light together into a larger, curved wall, but could also create strange black "tears" in the void of space. At the recommendation of the secretary, the institution sent an invitation for Konstantyn. This was a perfect opportunity for the Polish family: send Konstantyn to receive a regular education and a way to harness his powers, all at no expense to the family, which would make the Borzeki income rise greatly, and therefore allow for the three other children to enroll in a better school!

So, of course, the Borzeki teen accepted the invitation, and was soon sent away to a mysterious academy on top of an artificial island far from both of his homes....

Family: Matka (mother) Borzeki, and his siblings Aleksandra, Kamir, and Justyn.

Abilities

Power Class: Celestial Class, Level 5; Spatial Class, Level 4
Power: Solar Shield: Konstantyn is capable of drawing sunlight together to form a window-like wall as a shield. At present, it can only stretch to about 6 feet in height and 4 feet in width, providing just enough cover for the Pole alone. It is not an immobile object; Konstantyn can make the shield float and move around if necessary. It is of course called a "solar shield" for a reason: the more sunlight there is in an area, the stronger the shield can be. If shattered, the shield's remains will stay solid, and act like glass; as such, Konstantyn can pick up any piece and use it like a knife. Trail of the Void: He can also create a black-coloured "tear" in the fabric of space that anybody can pass through. Another "tear" is created elsewhere in the process, connected to the one Konstantyn initially created. He can jump through the initial tear and, after a few seconds of flying through the void, come out of the other end.

Weaknesses/Limitations/Drawbacks: Firstly, he can only create one shield at a time; he can create another after the first is shattered. While Konstantyn is capable of drawing sunlight to form a shield, he cannot draw light from anything else; lamps, fire, even other distant stars cannot provide sufficient light for him to make anything meaningful. As mentioned above, his shield is not impregnable; it can be broken into glass-like shards. The consequence of this is that usually the glass-light will go flying back at Konstantyn with whatever force broke the shield, providing additional damage to him. If he does choose to use a glass-light shard as a weapon, he will almost certainly receive cuts from it's use. Another thing mentioned above is that the more sunlight there is, the stronger the shield gets. The opposite also holds true; if the sunlight is blocked in any way (i.e. by clouds, an eclipse, or the process of sunset/sunrise), then the shield's power is drastically weakened. As for his "tears", there are also numerous problems involved with them. First of all, they are short range creations; the furthest exit tear can be no more than 50 metres away. He has no control over where the exits are created (but can control where the entrance is made, though again this is limited to a 50-metre radius). The inside of the void acts as empty space; thus, if he is unprotected while travelling through the tears, his body will react as a body would if it where in orbit above Earth. He has no control over the internal distance of the tears, which usually takes from 5-15 seconds to travel through. If he continuously travels through the void, he will grow more and more weary and nauseous, thus making repeated void travel even more dangerous. The effects of void travel last for about 10 minutes after each use.

I also want to mention acrobatics. If your character has little muscle, he'll probably find some time doing tricks in the air. It does take muscle to get yourself effectively off the ground, along with muscle flexibility and muscle control. If your character tires out like you say he does, then doing backflips is definitely going to make him feel like someone kicked his ass.

Ah, the "acrobatic" adjective I used. Perhaps it was the wrong word to use, but I intended that to be less of an "in-the-air" and more of a "evasive" knack of his. In retrospect, I should have stuck with just the word "nimble". Still, you do make a good point; if he tires out easily, then he might not be so nimble. I will have to find a way to either change that trait, or get rid of it.

As for your power, I made an empath before. While he could not control everyone's emotions (he could influence them, though), he could feel everyone's emotions when he looked at them. However, on top of his own emotions, looking into everyone and feeling emotions is a drastic change. And this would happen dozens upon dozens of times a day. It's relentless. So my character had some sort of instability because of that, his head and body couldn't take all these mood fluctuations so he would be prone (even when he's not looking at anybody) to random mood swings and irrational anger or depression or unreasonably joyful and euphoric. Of course, he was a nice boy and all, but he had a hard time forming relationships with people because of his mood swings and mannerisms.

The matter of reading others' emotions along with his own was not an aspect of the Mule that I had intended to touch upon outside of fights and decisive situations, but come to think of it, that is definitely something that a young developing meta-human with this ability would have to cope with. Would a self-induced apathy or a self-induced "mental shield" be out of the question, assuming both coping mechanisms were still being honed by the time the Mule reaches the island?

Mr Allen J said
And I think his power should be less of downright instantly changing emotions, and more of influencing them, or reading them.

Very well. I was considering changing it to a progression of the emotion (as in beginning slow, barely noticeable in the back of the target's head, slowly growing more potent until it is a very large weight on the target's mind/heart/whatever), instead of it being instantly induced. I assume this is what you mean by influencing them.

Also, on an unrelated note, I've also taken up the prospect of writing a second character, this one not taken from other literary works. I'll present both character sheets together.
