“So how was the start of your last year at that godawful school?” Minty’s big brother Iwan asked from behind her computer screen. The siblings made sure to stay in contact even now that Iwan had gone off to college. Without sticking together they would both perish under the pressure that their parents put on them.

It was a good thing Minty had her back to the laptop or Iwan would have seen her roll her eyes which he hates. “It’s hell! But whatever it’ll be over soon right?” Aramintah drawled as she spread the oil paint with her pallet knife over the canvas she was working on. “And besides it’s not like my grade from freaking Rosefell will get me anywhere…” she continued.

Her brother let out a small laugh “Don’t be so sure little sister. You never know when you might need them.” he paused. Minty knew where this was going and was bracing for Iwan’s inevitable words. “So… Uhm… Have you thought about… any colleges?”, there it was.

Minty spun around in her chair staring straight into the laptop’s camera “Dude you know I haven’t… Did mom ask you to ask again? God Iwan… really?” she huffed looking at his embarrassed face on the screen. “I thought you were on my side!” she exclaimed.

“Minty! Of course, I am… But you know how mom gets.” Iwan defended himself.

The dark-haired girl just grunted and went back to her painting. “Whatever… I need to get ready for this lake thing anyway. I’ll talk to you later.” she said wiping her hands lazily on a wet cloth. Her hands were stained from the paints no matter how much she rubbed them and after a few seconds she gave up.

“Alright bye sis…” Iwan sighed and logged off.

Slapping the laptop shut Minty walked over to her small closet and picked out an outfit for the night. A few minutes of sprucing up and she was out of the house. As she rode her bike she could feel the irritation from her and Iwan’s conversation ebb away and as she got closer to the lake she could hear the music and the murmur of voices, that got her excited.

She locked her bike against a tree fishing out her phone as she did so. Her thumbs tapping away absentmindedly as she walked slowly towards the party. She sent her two best friends each a text message to let her know she was there:

TO: Lana

TO: Eli

When she had sent them Aramintah took a lap trying to see if she knew anyone that where there already… she didn’t. She grabbed a wine cooler from the refreshments table as she headed to a small jetty where she sat down looking at the calm lake.

The Wallenberg Christmases was always a big fanfare. They invited their whole family from all over the country and even relatives from Sweden came over. It was a week of food and family activity. Which for Max meant chasing after his little cousins and keeping them all in check while the adults were busy comparing who had the better life. Max didn’t mind though it kept his mind of what was going on in his life. Kellie had moved not only out of his life but even out of the state. Someone had broken into their lacrosse supplies and destroyed all their shit.

So taking care of a pack of toddlers was actually a nice change of pace. But now the winter break was coming to an end and it was time to get back into action. Him and his father had put together a huge training and diet regimen that he followed religiously so the day before he was supposed to go back to King’s for his final semester he got up at the crack of dawn to run 5k. As he returned home he swung the front door open to find his big sister Elin standing there waiting for him.

“Daddy wants me to come with you to buy all your new equipment! He doesn’t trust you to not go overboard.” She smirked and rolled her eyes.

Max let out a booming laugh as he took of his running shoes. Of course Magnus Wallenberg wanted to buy the team new equipment. He was together with Garrett Diedrikson the biggest donator to the lacrosse cause. “Yeah sure let me just take a shower and I’ll be right down” he said as he passed his sister and bounded up the stairs.

After a quick shower the two eldest Wallenberg siblings sat in the big burgundy dodge ram speeding down the road towards downtown.

“So… How’s business school treating you?” Max asked his sister his eyes still glued to the road in front of him.

“Oh cut the crap Max! What the fuck happened with Kellie-Anne?” his sister snapped.

“What?! How’d…” he sputtered as he swerved a little from the shock of her directness.

Elin huffed turning her head to face forward again “You think Agnes wouldn’t spill? She’s probably more broken up than you are!”

“I doubt it…” Max whispered as he pulled into a parking spot and turned the car off. “Fuck… I don’t know what happened Elin… she moved… without giving a reason. What am I supposed to do? Chase after her? I don’t know where they went! Probably back to California.” He lamented fumbling with his seatbelt.

“Well you could start with talking with our little sister… Come on let’s get this over with!” She scolded as she jumped down from the car and slammed the door shut.

Fiery red hair fluttered in the wind as Julie MacMillan swooshed down the black slope of Val d'isere. When she came to a stop she lifted her goggles of her eyes so she could take in the beautiful sight of the french alps! The MacMillans always spent their christmas in the alps skiing. And this year was no different, her father and sister and herself had spent the holiday together in their cozy private cabin at the 5-star resort.

Julie had decided to spend their last day out in the slopes while the others packed up their belongings to go pack to Florida. As she finally had some time to herself Julie’s thoughts were hazy as she bobbed between the other skiers. Once again she had been ghosted by her other best friend Aurelio but this time she had been ready for it. This time she had left her guard up when he had come back. So when he and his sister disappeared seemingly overnight. The redhead had been hurt but not broken like last time.

As she went down the slope one last time she let her skis guide her to the little outside seating of the major restaurant where rich women drank rosé and their men smoked cigars. She had felt her phone vibrate in her snow pants pocket the whole day. Sitting down at one of the tables she gingerly took off her gloves and set them down ordering a glass of white wine when the cute waitress came by.

As she thought her phone had a lot of texts to go through mostly from her sister with status updates on how packing went. Messages from Chanel declaring how much she missed her and a message from April ensuring that the announcement party had gone well but the very last message shook her to her very core. It was from Aurelio. Expressing how sorry he was yet again and that he missed her and that he… loved her. This fucking guy she was almost vibrating with anger. Radio silence for almost 3 months and then a text message?! With the same old tripe that he had last time when he said he’d never do it again?

Ice blue eyes stared at the message for a long time before her slender fingers tapped away at the screen almost as if they were acting by their own command. Her thumb hovered a moment over the text on the screen that read “Block number” before she tapped it. Aurelio was gone from her life now. Just a memory burned into her heart. A short sniff escaped the young woman before she finished her wine in a few gulps and went to return her skis.

The flight home to Florida was filled with deep sighs and even deeper thoughts? Was she cursed? Did she only attract fucking idiots? Maybe she should become a nun? Or a recluse that sews dresses up in the mountains? No that would ruin her shoes.

Her sister tried to get her to open up about what was wrong but Julie was so sick and tired about talking about him and kept it to herself, she was done with men full stop. She was just tired and on her period was her cover story. Iris saw through her lie of course but knew better than to probe. After a grueling 10 hours, they finally touched down in Miami.

On the drive home from the airport, Julie spent her time staring out the window of the G-wagon. As they passed through the neighborhoods she noticed something… someone she recognized. A boy with long hair carrying big bags into one of the houses. She fell back in her seat crossing her arms over themselves. Interesting…

Minty’s eyes were almost all the way in the back of her head as their dumb ass principal was talking. A snort left the young woman as he tried to justify why they were cutting the art program from their curriculum.

“Whatever… it’s not like I was there much anyway. And besides was I the best in that class? Probably. Was I growing as an artist in that musty old room? Hard no.” Minty lamented to her friends as she sunk lower in her seat. She wasn’t really lying when she said she didn’t care that they were cutting art class, she did feel some sort of way about not having an easy A any more.

She craned her neck trying to spot her good friend Sage who most probably were holding back tears with the news that her safe haven was being cut. Minty made a mental note to check on her later.

As Eli left Minty gathered her stuff and followed suit. But while Eli turned towards a classroom Araminta continued toward the back exit. Her first class of the day was calculus and she didn’t really feel that vibe right now. Instead she made her way to one of the tables located out back where she unpacked her art pad and her aquarelles and got started on a painting.

Ludvig shifted his eyes between the two girls as the chatted away. What was that he spotted in Aria’s eyes? Was that a spark of something? And Cami certainly perked up since sitting down. He raised an eyebrow still deep in thought as Aria stood up.

“Uh… I’m taking that is my invitation?” Ludde laughed as he too stood up. “Yeah we’ll be there, right?” he turned and looked quizzically at Camila, who nodded.

After gathering their stuff the pair made their way towards the auditorium which was already filling up quick by all of the junior and senior students Ludvig let out a great big sigh. Principal Henderson usually put on a big show like this when he had something wonderful to let the student body know. Last time it was to let everyone know that they would have to cut the lunch budget which is why Ludvig brings his own lunch every day.

Squinting the slender boy scanned the seats before he spotted Artie surrounded by the rest of the knights. Ludvig nodded his head to signal to Camila to join him as he started his trek towards the others. He found himself and Cami a seat slightly behind the rest of the gang. Which ironically matched the way he felt about his status as one of the Knights… slightly behind. He felt like the odd one out if only because of his lack of interest in gaming which they were all very passionate about, but he also had this lingering feeling that most of them didn’t really like him that much. But maybe it was just his paranoia Artie always said it was just in his head and he would know right? Being the top dog of the group?

“…That dude’s real fucking weird.”

As they sat down he caught the tail end of what Artie was saying. “You talking about me again Art?” he grinned and punched the burly teen on the shoulder which felt like hitting a slab of meat. “Anyway this is…” he started before getting cut of by Henderson.

As the principal spoke Ludvig listened with a bored face. Oh of course they would have budget cuts… they always did. Not that it affected him in anyway he had put all of his focus on academics. And let’s face it the arts where not going to get him out of here now would it? Forced home ec? That was more of a chore than anything. When the assembly was done he simply shrugged said goodbye to the others and made his way to AP English.
