Playing the piano even when it was a crusty old keyboard has always transported Bastíen to his own world. His fingers moved over the plastic keys while the party went on outside of the cabin. Ever since he was little Bas liked to be alone and practice playing. It all stemmed from his mother wanting him to become a cultured young gentleman. So for as long as he could remember it had been three hours of piano playing at least once a day. For young Bastíen it had never been a chore like his siblings felt about what their mother wanted them to do.

So Bastíen was oblivious to the other person entering the room from the stairs. He kept playing increasing in intensity before reaching a climax with a flip of his hair. The sudden clapping made the piano player jump and look around frantically.

"Hey that was pretty awesome, didn't take you for a piano kind of guy." The other person said as he slowly moved around the room. Who was he? And how would he know what kind of ‘guy’ he Bastíen was? Everyone knew the piano was 70% of what made him.

Bas raised an eyebrow while he was searching for a name deep inside his mind. He was coming up blank. His powder blue eyes surveyed the young man up and down but to no avail. He looked like someone that would go through his time at Meadow without making much noise or fanfare for himself and that was probably why Bastíen hadn’t bothered remembering who he was.

"I'm surprised this is still even here and and working, based on how dirty this place is no one's been here in a minute." the guy continued as he came around looking at the old keyboard.

“I’m sorry… who are you?” Bastíen deadpanned while he crossed his legs looking up at the guy. “I didn’t mean to be rude. It’s just that you seem to know who I am… and what kind of ‘guy’ I am so I just think I ought to know who you are.” he plastered on a soft smile.

In the packed classroom, Julie rested her head on her slender hand looking at Mrs. Sanders with an utterly bored expression on her face. The redhead let out a small jawn as their teacher droned on and on about this stupid dance. This school put way too much emphasis on couplings and dances. Honestly, Julie couldn’t care less… but of course, the dance was mandatory as always when it came to King’s. She and Chanel will probably just go together anyway.

Julie stood up quickly as they were excused and left the classroom with a huff. The girl had been very annoyed at the faculty and the school as a whole lately. Topped off by the incident between her and Kavi earlier in the week. She floated down the hallway without much of a plan of where she was going. Soon enough she found herself standing in front of the library, a place that she didn’t frequent even though she probably should’ve.

With a shrug, she hiked up her MacMillan bag further up her shoulder before making her way over to a corner table. She sat in silence looking out of the window deep in thought. Did she even have any other friends for her to ask to this stupid thing? Not really. Maybe she would just wait until someone asked her. And then if no one asked her she could maybe be excused from it? Maybe she could go on a vacation to visit her sister in Milan instead?

This time Archer didn’t have a problem with the shenanigans the King’s faculty had cooked up. Mostly because of this time they weren’t so egregiously homophobic. Also because in his humble opinion valentine’s day is a bullshit holiday. He hated to admit it, but he actually liked the idea of not having it be a cheesy lover dance.

Archer turned his head to look up at his boyfriend with a questioning look. “Who will we choose to break up this power couple?” he asked laughing softly. He took a look around the room. Maybe he would just ask someone from the AP English gang, Beth perhaps. He bit his lip in deep thought as Mrs. Sanders told them they could leave.

He and Kavan stood up to leave but just as the entered the hallway they were both stopped in their tracks as a familiar voice called out.

"Hey Kavan,"

It was Ariel with her freshly dyed hair. “Oh hey, babe! What’s up?” Archer smiled as the pair turned around. Archer was mildly surprised when Ariel asked Kavan to go to the dance together but his face lit up at the idea. “What a great idea!” He said rocking back and forward on the balls of his feet. “I’ll let you guy’s talk… see you later!” He said planting a quick kiss on Kavan before continuing down the hallway towards the courtyard squeezing Ariel’s shoulder as he passed her.

When the young man stepped out he quickly made it to one of the tables and sat down opening his notebook. He tried to get a leg up on his French essay but his mind couldn’t concentrate even if his life depended on it. A frustrated sigh escaped him as he threw down his pen. Instead of continuing his green eyes scanned the students that were milling about.

He finally landed on the couple consisting of April and Santiago. It reminded him that he would have to take April up on her offer to fix his wreck of a car. His eyes narrowed in thought. Perhaps…

Archer collected his things and stuffed them back inside his bag before standing up and making his way over to where the pair sat. He offered up a thin-lipped smile as he stepped up in front of them.

“Hey April…” he greeted the girl before he turned stiffly toward the larger man “The Devil.” he nodded and then turned back to April. “So… Uh this dance thing.” he started awkwardly running his hand through his messy hair. “I was just wondering if a fine pregnant unmarried teenage girl would need a gay date to this shitshow?” he laughed hoping they would see the comedy in the situation as much as he did.

Max had taken a seat in the middle of the classroom when King’s senior class was ordered to assemble with Mrs. Sanders instead of going to their third-period classes. And far be it from the lacrosse player to complain over not having to sit through physics. Max barely listened when Sanders spoke, instead, the jock doodled on the desk in front of him. Only when the class erupted into outraged murmurs did Max look up from his detailed sketch of a pair of breasts. From what he could piece together from the whispers around the room: they where to find someone that they might not have chosen to go to the Valentine dance with.

The blond young man couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at his fellow classmates outrage. So what? Just find someone to go with and bang whoever you wanted later. The dance was probably going to be lame anyway. He looked around to find Ariana to see if she was one of the students who were pissed. But no, she looked as bored as always. She would probably agree with his plan to sneak away at the dance, or so he hoped. Now the question of who he would ask was up in the air. He could almost feel the stares from a few of the girls in the room and that made him smile wider than usual.

Georgie groaned and buried her head in her hands when she heard the announcement. Not this again. Not another dreaded Valentine’s Day dance that she had no want in participating in. Maybe she’d just not go. She guessed that could be an option too right?

But not going would mean...not going. And Georgie had hoped to be a part of it this year so she could take some photos for the yearbook. There was nothing that would make the school administration happier than a picture of young couples standing a far distance apart against a backdrop of hearts and balloons.

Now, as for who her date was...She looked around the room before her eyes locked with a certain blonde head. Oh no, Georgie was definitely not going down that route again. Though, he did look cute. She tilted her head which was resting on her palm and squinted. Maybe she could see it...kinda...Georgie shook her head. Nope, she couldn’t think like that.

For some reason, Max decided to look over his shoulder to find Georgie looking like she was in the middle of some sort of existential crisis. He couldn’t help but smile widely as he made eye contact with the girl. He flung a wink in her direction just as they were informed they could leave Max stood up quickly, but before he left the classroom he took a detour, passing Georgie’s desk.

“Hey,” he said smiling knocking on her desk with his knuckles. “You… Still owe me a photo... don’t forget!” he said before letting out his booming laughter and turning to leave the classroom heading towards lacrosse practice.

Georgie jumped as he knocked on her desk and quickly tried to readjust herself so she seemed normal.

“Right...the picture. I haven’t even entered it in the competition yet what with all the stuff I’ve been doing lately.” She rubbed the back of her neck and smiled weakly.

The jock turned around still smiling “I guess we’ll have to set a scene for a new photoshoot!” He thought for a minute “Maybe the valentine’s dance could work?” his pearly whites still on full display as he looked down at the nervous-looking girl. “What do you say? You wanna go to this thing together?” he said raising his eyebrow.

“Valentine’s Dance...with you?” Georgie knew she sounded like a love-struck teen but she was confused.

A small chuckle escaped the young man “Don’t sound to excited”

Why the hell would he ask her? Whatever. It wasn’t like she already had a date in mind. “I mean...I’d love to!” She answered

Max’s face perked up “Cool! So we should plan how we want to enter this shindig!” he laughed. He just remembered how Kellie always wanted to make an entrance and to be honest he really liked it. “You want to come over this weekend and we can plan or whatever?” he asked casually.

“Yeah, sure.” Georgie tried to respond in the same tone. She hadn’t ever thought that Max would be this thoughtful. I mean, planning on how to enter a party? That took guts. It was sweet, she concluded. And she should be grateful she had a date to this thing in the first place.

"Sweet! Then I'll see you later then Georgie!" He exclaimed turning with a wave, exiting the classroom.

Mac let the lights from the party play over her face and moved her body to the booming music as she slowly sipped the drink she had mixed in a red solo cup. She had opted for a simple vodka cranberry as her drink of choice keeping the small bottle of vodka in her back pocket so she could mix a new drink at a drop of a hat.

“You know Keeks I really do-” MacKenna’s sentiment was cut short by the shriek coming from the blonde blur divebombing her roommate’s lap. It was Lottie Diedrikson, her cousin and best friend in the world. Even though Mac loved Lottie like a sister she couldn’t help but feel like she was in always in Lottie’s shadow. It had always been that way ever since they were kids and all throughout high school. Everyone loved Lottie so they liked Mac by association. Even now Kiki’s only focus was on Charlotte and nothing else.

“Nice to see you too Lottie!” Mac pouted from behind Kiernan with her arms crossed in front of her tapping the empty cup on her hip. She was just about to interrupt their snuggle session when a familiar voice called to her.

"Macaroni ~ Did you miss me?"

The dark-haired girl couldn’t keep her face from contorting into a grossed out grimace at what Aleric had just called her. He knew she hated it when he called her that. “Shut the fuck up you loser!” she grinned at him throwing her arms around him “I actually did…” she said rolling her eyes in Lottie and Kiernan’s direction.

She turned back to face her newly arrived friend “You getting settled back in ok?” she asked. Whatever Aleric answered Mac had a hard time focusing on what he said because there was a very strange scene going on over his shoulder.

Theodore Bonfamille was walking with determined steps towards them before he stopped and took a swig from a bottle. Then he seemed to have some sort of inner discussion with himself before looking in their direction and quickly scurrying off toward the beer pong table.

“What in the world…” Mac whispered to herself. “Al! Follow me!” she said snapping her fingers as she bounded in the direction Theo had gone. When they arrived at the pong table Theo and Connor seemed to be setting up for a new game. Mac let a smirk spread across her face as she approached the two men.

“Hey! You playing?! How about we double? Me and Al against the two of you nerds?” Before they even had time to respond MacKenna grabbed the small ping-pong ball throwing it up into the air trying to catch it again. But as the clutz that she is, she missed the ball on its way down and it bounced on the table corner and away from them “Oh shoot!” Mac exclaimed and ran after it.

The small ball kept rolling away and the girl cursed under her breath as she ducked down lower to get it. But suddenly she collided with something solid. “Ouch… What the fuck?!” she yelled falling backward.

Bastién had promised his sister a makeshift throne and he was a man that always kept his word. So as the pair walked around Bas kept his blue eyes on the lookout for somewhere for them to sit and wait for their brother to come back with their drinks. “Ah..” the dark-haired triplet let out as he spotted a few large rocks on a small hill looking out over the rest of the party goers.

“Come on Mads…” he said tightening his grip on his sisters arm steering her towards their makeshift thrones. From upon the small hill the Bonfamille siblings could watch over the party scene like royalty. As it should be of course. Bas took of his dark denim jacket and laid it down so Madéleine could sit down without getting her dress dirty.

The siblings spent some time talking and laughing together as they watched the party going on around them but to be completely honest Bas was getting bored. He furrowed his brows as their brother took his sweet time getting their drinks, he stood up surveying the crowd to see if he could spot Theodore.

“BUBBLESSSSSSS!!!”

A voice from the crowd called out and a man pushed his way towards them. It was Lance, one of Maddie’s friends. Bastién turned to face his sister with a smile. “You guys enjoy the party. I’ll go look for our idiot brother.” he said as he made his way down the hill nodding to Lance as he passed him.

The middle Bonfamille sibling regretting stepping into the crowd almost immediately. The mass of sweaty bodies gyrating on each other made him uneasy. As he got through the mass of dancers he spotted his brother standing around a ping-pong table with his friend Conner and… oh, that’s why Theo had forgotten about him and Maddie. MacKenna Diedrikson was among them as well. Bastién rolled his eyes as he continued on into the cabin.

The first floor of the cabin was still full of people milling about drinking and shouting. Bas took a walk around examining the place the books in the bookcase, the weird paintings that hung on the wall and finally the booze table that was set up in the corner of the room. Bastién wrinkled his nose at the spread on the table: warm beer, melting ice, of-brand liquor and questionable sliced citrus. He decided to pour himself some gin and topping it of with some tonic water dropping a slice of lime for good measure. He turned around looking out over the room leaning on the table sighing deeply while he took a gulp of his subpar gin & tonic. With a huff he got of the table and made his way through the room when he got to the stairs that led to the second floor.

When he got to the top he was pleasantly surprised to see that there was no one up there. You could still here the booming music from the outside but it was more muted and it had a somewhat calming effect. Again Bastién walked slowly around the room examining it. Something that caught his eye was an old casio keyboard set up next to a big window. He sat down the folding stool in front of the keyboard and set down his cup on the floor next to him. There was a layer of dust covering the keys that Bas had to blow away. Apparently the owner of the cabin hadn’t played on the instrument for a while. He pressed the switch and to his delight it turned on and the speakers worked.

The young man stretched his arms and his slender fingers before he closed his eyes and let his fingers move over the plastic keys playing the first piece that came to him.

Julie let her eyes travel up and down the new guy as Ariel explained who he was and asked her to back off. The redhead took a step backward still looking straight into Ryland’s eyes. She hated to admit it, but he was incredibly handsome which was probably why he felt entitled to act like a douchebag and get away with it. Julie turned her head toward Ariel “If you say so…” she huffed and stepped back when Chanel grabbed her arm. Julie crossed her arms in front of her still staring down the new long-haired dude.

As Chanel started her rant Julie couldn’t do anything else but listen and nod along with her best friend. Even though she might not agree with everything that Chanel was saying, she would back her no matter what.

Being scolded by Chanel seemed to have struck a nerve with Kavi. It could be seen in his face that Julie had been studying as her friend had a go at him. When he began to spill his own comeback the MacMillan girl couldn’t help herself with stepping in and challenging the utter crap that he was throwing at them.

“Oh you think that’s the reason we would judge you?!” she scoffed taking a step closer to Kavi. “You think we care that you got back together Ariel?! No, that judgment is reserved for the girl herself!” she said gesturing towards Ariel. “You’re lucky a girl like her even looks your way let alone have you touch her.” Julie spat viciously. “You want to know why people paint you as a villain… an evil guy? It’s because that’s what you fucking are!” her blue eyes were blazing as she stepped even closer to the young man.

Julie didn’t swear a lot because she felt it was classless but in this situation, she felt it was a necessity. “Do you think you bullying half of our grade would go unnoticed? Do you think we would forget how you treated poor Elijah Abrams?! Or that we haven’t heard what you say about us? Grow the fuck up Salvadore!” venom was dripping from every word the woman was throwing Kavi’s way.

Having to deal with two of the biggest assholes of King’s Academy in one morning was proving too much for Julie to handle. She took a deep steadying breath before she continued. “The Halloween kiss is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to why we do not like you.” she was done with him and the whole situation and was just about to follow Chanel’s advice and remove herself from the scene. But, as she started to walk after her best friend Kavi decided to call Chanel a bitch. It was like something snapped inside of the redheaded girl.

With a swift turn, Julie bounded back towards Kavi raising her left arm and bringing it down with as much force she could muster slapping the boy across the face. The noise of her open palm connecting with Kavi’s cheek rung through the hallway.

“Don’t you EVER talk to her like that” Julie almost screamed at him before shoving him as hard as she could. “Best of luck with that!” she offered to Ariel before turning on her heel stomping off following Chanel.

He could still hear his cousin’s cackle coming from behind the closing door. Max leaned back against the wall laughing quietly as he buckled his belt not knowing what else to do. He bent down to grab his white shirt and blazer from the floor quickly putting them on before sitting down beside Ariana. “Well…” he said smiling widely at the brunette, the lacrosse captain sat quietly looking down at his fidgety hands. As Ariana had said this had been something that had been in the works for a long time. And even though Kellie had left him, Max couldn’t help but feel like he was doing something wrong. But he wasn’t though… right? He decided to shake that feeling off for now.

Instead, Max turned his attention back to the beauty sitting next to him by caressing her cheek “Hey… Are you ok?” he asked, even though he didn’t really care about his cousin seeing him in this awkward position, but Ariana probably does not have the same laidback feeling about the whole situation. “I’ll have a talk with Archie… make sure he doesn’t go around blabbing about this.” he said rubbing the back of his neck before he finished up buttoning his shirt. As he did so he got a quick look at his watch “Oh shit!” he exclaimed quickly throwing on his blazer. “If I don’t get my ass to algebra Mr. Russo will kill me!” he said checking his reflection in one of the mirrors running his hand through his messy hair trying to make it not look like sex hair.

“I already have way too many late notices in his class.” he let out a sigh “And that guy already hates me for some reason!” he let out his booming laugh grabbing his bag from the floor. He turned to face her again his hand resting on the door handle “Are you ready to go?” he asked holding out his free hand.
