The year is 827, and the age of exploration is well underway. Great ships sail the seas, putting ink to the blank corners of the map, hunting the beasts of the sea for their blubber and oil and carrying all the wealth of the world back to their homes. Any scholarly man would agree, a golden age had dawned upon humanity; though perhaps the blessings of the age did not fall equal upon all the people of the world.
Our story begins in the port city of Fordester, capital of the Great Empire of Deltain. With the discovery of a new continent far to the southwest, unexplored and teeming with riches, a naval war has broken out between the Deltish Empire and the neighboring Empire of Gallinia. Men at arms are raised, cannons are loaded, and the waters churn with blood. The conflict will determine which of the Empires will rise to prominence and plunder the new world for all its wealth. Of course, the natives of the new world might have some other thoughts, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem they'll get a say...
But our story is about something a little different. Soon, a merchant ship, the Adelaide, embarks on a grand voyage, contracted by the Royal Economic Authority to bring supplies to outposts of the Deltish Empire on the new continent and return with the bounty of the new world. Though none aboard know it, her voyage will bring her to strange waters, untold sights, and adventures that may indeed shake the old world and the new. Destiny watches, and the curtain goes up...
Welcome to Off the Map! This will be a high-casual, large group, high seas adventure RP, in which players will take the role of the crewmen of the Adelaide as she embarks upon her singular journey. What is meant to be a simple trading run to a far-off colony will instead go terribly off course, as the crew finds themselves embroiled in conflicts both mundane and supernatural, blown off course into strange seas and caught in the middle of a war for the new world. They'll be adventure, drama, conflict, friendship, battles, true love, and things have that nature, as the crew are forced to rely on each other to survive their perils and learn about the true nature of the world and their role in it.
Characters can take any position on the ship, from humble deckhand to officer to a passenger, paying for transport to the New World. This is a fantasy RP, but most of the characters will likely have their first encounter with supernaturality over the course of the story - the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is a good example to get a read on the magic level. Everyone will get plenty to do, and every character will be as important as all the others, so make whatever character you want!
Rules
1. Don’t be a jerk. 2. Post quality is High Casual. I’m not a massive stickler about grammar, but I do have a bare minimum of expectations. Two paragraphs or more a post is fine. 3. Posts should come at least once every five days – if you’re going to be unable to post longer than that, just let me know beforehand. I promise, I don’t bite. 4. This is an RP where character interaction will be emphasized, so characters should ideally be complex and have a good deal of depth to them. 5. Worldbuilding is welcome! If you have any questions, please let me know. Name a colony, name an island, name a city you hail from, invent an organization or what have you, and we'll make it work! 7. All standard guild rules apply. If things get heated, fade to black or take it to PMs, please. 8. Post CS applications in the OOC or PM them to me, then move them to the characters tab when approved. 9. Have a lovely time!

Brynn, to most has this "I'm better than you" vibe about her, which those who think that tend to believe it's because she comes from a wealthy family, much like many of the snot-nosed brats raised up on old money who thinks everyone is beneath them. Quite the opposite in Brynn's case, except she does have a serious case of RBF. Brynn is very much about helping others way before she even thinks of herself, she just tends to be super competitive when it comes to sports and physical training. She tries not to gloat, but sometimes she can't help it. She knows she's good at what she does, but she does like to help others out on the team. She's all about proper sportsmanship. Winning is nice, but its all about having fun. As her father likes to say, "Victory is in the quality of the competition and not the final score." She may only be 17, but she kind of acts like the Mother Hen among her friends. She loves working with others but doesn't mind being a lone wolf , either. If you really get to know Brynn, she tends to be quite sarcastic. You'll know she's comfortable with you when she starts insulting you. It's all love, so don't take it personal. She's loyal to a fault and will do anything and everything in her power to protect her friends and loved ones.

Backstory
The Knowles story began living in a dry desert city in the Coachella Valley called Indio, CA. Summer temperatures ran up to 120 degrees and the people living in it were about as bland as the desert scenery. Jackson Knowles was a sergeant for the Marine Corps, while Melissa was a bartender at the bar where they ended up meeting. A one-night stand led to the conception of their first born, Daniel. Soon after Melissa found out she was pregnant, she got in touch with Jack whom wasn't especially eager to hear what had happened, he wasn't going to back out of something he was to be held responsible for. They made it work, and eventually got married and decided to expand the family one more time.
Brynn was brought into the world to a brother 2 1/2 years her senior, and two parents who were together and happily married. The first 10 years of Brynn's life went by like nothing, things seemed to be going just great. Even with her asshole brother constantly bullying her, it wasn't enough to dampen her spirits. Sometime shortly after her 11th birthday, Brynn found out that her mother was deathly ill. She never made it to see her 12th birthday. Her father says she had been sick for some time before Brynn and Daniel actually found out, but she didn't tell them sooner in hopes that she was going to get better.
Brynn didn't take her death very well, and neither did Daniel, although both acted out their grief in different ways. Daniel became very reclusive and hardly spoke unless directly spoken to, and Brynn turned to causing trouble both in school and at home, often times getting into screaming matches with her brother and growing bold enough to yell at her father once. Yes, once. Cause after that one time, she didn't dare do it again. So instead, she decided to thumb her nose at her father another way and.. well, at least once she hit High School, started sleeping around with boys. Which eventually got her into the trouble that forced the family of three to uproot and move up to Everbrook, where Brynn's dad was lucky enough to land a job working at a warehouse overnight in Portland.
With the promise of a new life and the chance to create a new name for herself, Brynn has decided to make a change to herself and focus solely on school. Since the Knowles moved to the area, Brynn only met a couple of kids her own age to talk to before the quarantine hit, Strict orders kept both the Knowles kids inside the house, even while Jackson was away at work. No visitors. With quarantine being lifted, Brynn is excited to get out and explore the new area, maybe make a few new friends and go on an adventure.. or a few. Nothing is off-limits to Brynn, this summer.

1. Method of Transport: Her Chevro-legs and her board 2. Deep, Dark Secrets?: "I slept with my Chemistry teacher's TA, and we got caught. He was 20, I was only 16. It's part of the reason why we moved." 3. Job or Internship?: Part-time summer job as a life guard at the local pool, as well as another Part-time "internship" with a professional dog trainer. 4. Pets: Brynn has 5 pets. 4 pet rats named Black Betty, Blue, Mochi, and Narcissa and a Belgian Malinois named Shea. 5. Known Languages: English, of course. She speaks a little French, as well, but not well. She took a year of it before getting transferred into Spanish 1-2 in her Sophomore year. The class had been packed in her freshman year and was forced to take an alternative. Brynn has also practices ASL, and is fairly fluent in that.
I don't know why, but this song kept playing in my head while I was reading this CS. In any case, well done!
I'd throw this out for Danny. I think it reflects his struggle with authenticity as well as his nature of running away from conflict / do what he's told, but beneath that, his basic satisfaction with who he is as a person.
Wouldn't Turner Street be more apt if your parents are in positions like Fire Chief and Public Defender? Seems like a pretty quintessential suburban family in good positions. Glad to see more sporty characters.
Maybe? My understanding is that there's generally not a ton of money in public service - public defenders in particular work for peanuts, and with three kids, the family's probably financially secure, but not incredibly well off. It's possible I'm misinterpreting; if the GM suggests, I could change quite easily.
Good-natured: Danny is, ultimately, a basically nice person who’d like to get along with just about everybody. He’d never put anyone down or try and make himself out to be superior to them, and he’s unflinchingly polite. At times, this overlaps with a kind of severe conflict aversion – though you’d never guess it from seeing him on the field, he hates interpersonal conflict more than anything, and will appease, acquiesce, or back away on anything just to get out of it.
Popular: Star wide receiver of the football team combined with his generally positive attitude means Danny’s a pretty well-liked guy. His family is respected around the town, and he gets along pretty well with the Everbrook High ‘in crowd’. Those on the social periphery might consider him ‘just another popular kid’, and in truth he could do more to curtail some of the bullying his peers engage in (see: adverse to conflict), but most would have neutral-to-positive feelings towards him.
Smarter than he looks: Danny’s not a leader, preferring to have someone else call the shots. It’d be wrong to assume that he’s a dumb jock, however – he’s a deep thinker, and he’s always paying attention. In school, he’s a middling student – he’d be better if he had more time to study, and math continually evades him, but his command of history and English are pretty good, and he’s got a decent mind for problem-solving.
Family History/Backstory
Danny’s lived in Everbrook his whole life. His parents met in Portland, and moved out to Everbrook to start a family. Now, his father is the chief of the local fire station, and his mother works as a public defender; they’ve been living in Everbrook for 20 years, and their active presence in the community as well as the nature of their jobs means that they’re well-regarded by the community as a whole. He has two siblings – an older brother, Jacob, who’s currently attending college in Massachusetts, and a younger sister, Anjelica, who’s entering her second year in middle school.
As soon as he was old enough, Danny tried out for the Everbrook High football team, and he’s risen to prominence as their star wide receiver. He’s already been approached by scouts from several colleges interested in giving him a scholarship to play for them – he’s got friends, a normal family life, prospects, hobbies. Seems like there’s nothing terribly strange coming up in his future.
Right?
