Feeling his fingers lace with hers was one of the best moments she felt, it wasn’t hard to feel her heart fluttering like it always did when they touched. Hearing the genuine appreciation in his voice made her feel slightly better even though they were in a terrible situation. Although she knew deep down, he would have to return, and she shouldn’t be enjoying the fact they were holding hands it was hard to ignore it when she had genuinely developed feelings for him. This is going to be hard on the both of us in the long run, but I don’t want to push him away. I can’t.
Sighing with relief as he had taken the backpack from her hands, she let them drop to her side as she could still feel them shake from the effort. “Thank you.” Taking one of the water bottles from him she took a sip wanting to clear her mouth from all the dust that had settled back there. Grimacing as the water hit her stomach, she could feel it churn away unsettled from all the action they had just gone through, but none the less she kept taking a few sips knowing it would be best. Replenishing the energy, she had lost and clearing out her throat from the rubbish.
“Huh? Oh. I think I’m alright.” Smiling as she tried to brush off how she felt, she didn’t want him to worry about her. The fever was making her uncomfortable, but she had ignored it because they had been in danger. Sitting down now it felt like everything was catching up with her, the ache of her limbs, the sickly feeling in her stomach and now she felt cold. “No, it’s fine. I don’t think I’d be able to sleep anyway. I’m cold.” Rubbing her arms slightly as she looked over him, “Thank you, for making me eat back there. I definitely needed it.” If they hadn’t had eaten, she could only imagine the worst-case scenario, but thankfully they had recuperated even though it was only brief.
As much as she wanted to take a nap or sleep for that matter, she knew it would be hard, between feeling cold and being out in the open she wouldn’t feel comfortable sleeping whilst he kept watch. What had just happened to them wasn’t easy to process and she wanted to be there for him, listen if he wanted to talk and show him that there was someone who cared. Iris was still concerned over the shift in mood of him, she didn’t want him to feel alone because she knew how it could feel. “How are you?” Tentatively she reached out her hand to him hesitating for a moment because she didn’t want to overstep, but she still wanted him to know she was there. “I’m happy to listen if you need it… I. I understand how it can feel sometimes, but I just. I don’t want you feeling like you’re alone right now. I am here. I just wanted to make sure you know that.”
