Ryozan was not one to passively watch his opponents circle around him, so when Mr. Sunshine sidestepped the gust, Ryozan shifted his weight onto his left leg and pivoted, bringing his right leg around behind him. This allowed him to track his opponent's movement quite easily; in fact, the difference in the circumferences of their two motions meant that even if Mr. Sunshine was travelling twice as fast, Ryozan would still be able to follow the movement. Likewise, as he pivoted, he pulled his right hand close to his body, preparing for another strike. Furthermore, since he had used the centrifugal force of his previous pivot, not the motion of his arm, to block the previous attack, his left arm remained in a strong defensive position for the duration of the movement. There was not a single point in time where Ryozan was not facing Mr. Sunshine with his guard up.
Thus, his thrusts would not be as effective as he hoped. The diagonal positioning of Ryozan's left arm was more or less ideal for deflecting a head-on attack. The thrust glanced against Ryozan's gauntlet and by simply widening the angle of his arm, he was able to alter the trajectory of the course of the blow. The first thrust would miss his body, carving a shallow cut into his cheek, but that would be the only thrust that Mr. Sunshine would have the chance to unleash. Ryozan did not back up, but rather charged forward, sliding along the crystal saber with his gauntlet and quickly coming too close to Mr. Sunshine for such a weapon to use effective thrusts.
Now that Ryozan was in close, he had no intention of granting his opponent the privilege of range. If Mr. Sunshine attempted to step back or dash in any direction, Ryozan would be ready to close the distance. After he slid in to close range, Ryozan would attempt to grab Mr. Sunshine's right wrist with his left hand. If successful, this would neutralize his sword motions and would pump ice energy into Mr. Sunshine's arms that would eventually freeze his flesh. He left his right arm drawn back and charged ki into it, preparing for a powerful strike.
