Receiver:
  • Name: Ryuuto Anjou
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: He is a very serious student with a standoffish personality. He spends most of his time reading, so his social skills are pretty weak. His family drilled into his head at a young age, that as a receiver his is a valuable resource for humanity, and takes his role as one very seriously. His role as a receiver has also given him a streak of arrogance that makes it difficult for him to make friends, especially with tuners.
  • Skills: Excellent in Academics, especially math and science. He has studied many foreign languages and, although he doesn’t speak them fluently, he could ask for directions just about anywhere in the civilized world.
  • Brief Backstory: The son of a wealthy family, Ryuuto was lauded as long as he could remember for being made a receiver. His parents instilled into him a strict sense of academic discipline, and he came to expect the same from all those he associated with. His expectations were seldom met, and he effectively became the “loner” in primary school. This, compounded with elevated social and genetic status, instilled in him a sense of superiority, even over tuners. He was a valuable resource and should not be squandered on people senselessly; one day he would select the best tuner for himself to fulfill his role.
  • Tuner: New Student

Tuner:
  • Name: Keiji Kojuro
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Carefree and outgoing, Keiji is not afraid to say what he thinks. This gives him a very polarizing personality, as he’ll either tell you how much he likes you or how much he doesn’t. He doesn’t take his schoolwork or his role as a tuner very seriously, but he puts in just enough effort to get by. He ultimately has a kind heart, though, and will help just about anyone he asks, and he never stands for bullying.
  • Type: Weapon
  • Weapon: C-4 explosives. Keiji can use the energy from a receiver to generate a brick of C-4. He can mold it as he wishes, and detonate it with a snap of his fingers. The strength of the explosion scales with his bond with the receiver, but he can lessen the explosion if he wishes.
  • Skills: Ran in track for a year, but quit because he didn’t like the school atmosphere. He is a very fast runner and has great stamina. He has no formal combat training, but has been in his fair share of fights. His grades are about average.
  • Brief Backstory: “Aspirations” was a word that Keiji looked up in the dictionary one day, forgot the definition of, looked it up again, and then decided that he didn’t have any. He knew he didn’t want to live the corporate life of his father. Even when he found out that he was a tuner, he wasn’t thrilled with the idea of being a tool of the military. Meh, he’d worry about all that stuff later. For now, he’d just go for a run.

I'm interested! Commencing construction of character profiles in T-minus... NOW
TEAM RUTABAGA

Telio was moderately amused by the vindictive looks his felidrake was giving him. He chuckled as he set the cage down next to all the others that had been collected and said to it, "Well I'll never let my guard down if you look ready to claw my eyes out. May our paths never cross again then." With that he turned his attention to spook and the enormous magic circle he had drawn. It was a fascinating construct, with layers of simple geometry coming together elegantly to create a complex masterpiece. He reached for his art supplies to make a sketch of the fascinating construct, thinking little of the consequences of reproducing such an array, but Spook had other plans.

He asked the group for volunteers who wanted to do magic. Normal, everyday people doing magic! Telio had always thought that magic was something that sages in secluded valleys studied for hundreds of years before they could bend reality to their will. It was hard to believe that a simple city folk like himself would be able to do it just like that. Then again... he looked at the pile of caged felidrakes that seemed to have no problem using their magic to zip about. "Well, I's certainly hard to pass up an opportunity like this," Telio said, and then he took a seat at the circle.

Telio listened to Spook's instructions and thought about it carefully before he attempted to begin. What took his breath away? What had he always dreamed about. He imagined himself as a child again, sitting atop the city walls with his binoculars. The farthest point he could see was the end of everything he knew. It was the edge of his map. Then he imagined himself standing at that farthest point and donning his binoculars once again. What would he see this time? Certainly not the baroness, but an entire world of sights he could only imagine. Mushrooms towering taller than the tallest trees in Enn! The paper stretched to accommodate the new lines of the map. Walls of ice and mountains of fire sitting right next to each other in harmony! Just one map wouldn't do; he would need topographies, climate maps, illustrations... A creature with 27 eyes and 54 mouths that likes to drink tea harvested from a tree with bacon for bark! The lines were drawn, colors danced across the pages, and Telio finally stood at the edge of the world. Teetering on the edge of all that anyone who ever lived knew, Telio took out his binoculars and looked beyond anyone's imagination. That sight that neither he nor any mortal being could ever dream of seeing was what made his heart clench.
Choosing not to resist Ryozan's frosty grip was a curious decision, but it was one that the kitsune intended to take full advantage of. Once he gripped Mr. Sunshine's wrist, his entire forearm became coated in a frost that made the previous blizzard strike seem like a cool summer breeze. Since he had chosen not to resist, he would feel the pain of frostbite immediately set in, his nerve endings would go numb, and his flesh would literally freeze. Nor would he be able to uncurl his fingers until the arm thawed and the damage was tended to, leaving his sword locked in a stiff and rigid arm. If Mr. Sunshine continued to allow Ryozan to pump his cryomantic ki into him, the frost would spread all the way up to his shoulder.

Mr. Sunshine's two part attack was a much more practical decision. He had assessed correctly that Ryozan's Tanzo-ryu was one such style that focused on the upper body, and Ryozan was not blind to its weaknesses. Even focused as he was on delivering his strike, he saw Mr. Sunshine's foot wind up for the strike, and he knew there was very little he could do to prevent the blow from reaching its destination. Mr. Sunshine swung his foot in a beautiful arc and, just as he predicted, swept Ryozan's foot out from under him. Had Ryozan been a human, the attack would likely have gone just as Alexander wanted it to. However, he would see Ryozan's body tilt slightly to the left, and then stop, his balance readjusted.

Instead of initiating a frantic retreat to avoid the sweep entirely, Ryozan decided to use what the the gods had blessed every member of his race with to counter its effects: his tail. As Mr. Sunshine's foot swung in for the attack, so did Ryozan's tail swing down, acting as a brace for him to shift his weight onto once he lost his left foot. It was only a temporary solution, and would not substitute for a leg, but it would give him the moment of balance he needed to get his foot back on the ground. Since he would not be falling, his grip on Mr. Sunshine's wrist would remain adamant.

That left the matter of the punch emerging from behind Mr. Sunshine's back. Bringing a limb out from behind your back and immediately using it to attack is about as telegraphed as an attack could get, so Ryozan had a pretty good idea what to expect. As he brought his arm out, the structure of the gauntlet around Ryozan's right arm shifted from that of a blade to spiked knuckles. As Mr. Sunshine swung, so did Ryozan. The kitsune put all of his stone-smashing force into a punch that would meet his rival's fist in the air head-on. It was his ki-infused, spike-knuckled ice gauntlet, versus Mr. Sunshine's naked fist. Upon impact, Ryozan would also release the ki he had charged up in his arm to unleash his hasaiken, a ki attack of raw destructive force that would add an explosive impact to the collision. It was a strike that could shatter boulders; would Mr. Sunshine's bones be able to endure as the impact sent shock waves down his arm?
The mighty crash between the two warriors left Talon legitimately impressed. First, he was impressed that the glassy substance the shield was made out of barely even shuddered under the full force of his charge; second, he was impressed that he hadn't sent the little knight flying in the opposite direction when their bodies met. He sensed no fear in his adversary, not the slightest glint of hesitation in his movements. His attitude was like all those other would-be heroes he had slain, but the difference was that this knight actually seemed to have the tools to do him harm. Finally, a battle that he could take seriously.

Talon felt the knight begin to shift his weight, and he knew that if he continued forcing himself against that shield he would be sent in a direction he did not with to go. He couldn't break the shield, and he couldn't simply trample this knight as he had so many heroes before him, so the best course of action would be to fall back and look for gaps in the enemy's defense. As Daniel pushed off of him, Talon snapped his wings forward and kicked off of the ground to propel himself several feet back. This motion caused the knight's slash to miss its mark, however it appeared that he had a weapon far more dangerous than his sword.

Click.

Even at this distance, Talon felt the energy of the blast. He tightened his guard to absorb some of the impact, but even the Nezgarian was sent skidding back from the force of such a blast. He slammed his tail flat against the ground, dug his nails into the dirt, and gritted his teeth as he skidded back another few feet. Shrapnel battered against him leaving a few cuts along his arms that were more of an injury to his pride than his body, but were at the very least a proof of concept of the bomb's lethality. His assassin tactics had saved him from a serious injury, if not death, and it was unlikely that Daniel would see the dragon being so reckless again.

Even though his ears were still ringing, Talon maintained a sturdy defensive position while his tail curled up off of the ground and seemed to disappear into a tear in space. Reality warped and crackled around his tail, and when it finally emerged from the rift, it was wrapped around a third blade. Thus armed, the Nezgarian curled his tail over his head like a scorpion stinger and waited for the dust to clear so he could begin his counter attack.
The ability of foresight in a role player is, to me, the single most crucial factor when it comes to fighting. The ability to plan and think ahead, make those plans concise and follow them through, and being quick-minded enough to re-apply thought when that plan perhaps fails. I attribute just about any win I've gained to being able to properly predict, and therefore in a sense control the flow of the fight.

It's funny, I'm kinda the opposite. I don't rely on foresight because in my experience characters in fantasy combat can be pretty freakin' unpredictable. I don't think I've ever won a fight that went "according to plan." For me, my greatest assets are visualization and creativity. Whenever my character makes a motion, I physically act out that motion so that I know for a fact where every body part will be and where my openings are.
@LeeRoy Yea, I've been there man. Wanna put a pause on our fight until you're feeling better? I'd hate to win by default just because you got sick.
@EmptyArmor Ah, Gotcha. That makes a lot more sense now.
@EmptyArmor In your last post, I'm not understanding how Daniel's sword swing would get behind Talon. Upon impact, Talon was directly facing Daniel's sword arm. To bring it upon the nape of Talon's neck, he'd more or less have to be doing a 180 degree sidestep. If that's the case, that's fine, I just want to understand what movements I'm reacting to.
