Fab, when it comes to portraying a character believably, you might be the best this site has.

There's no need to build a labyrinth when the entire universe is one.

Bio

Well, this was my account. Had my fair share of memories of the guild, both good and bad. I hope you all have a great time here and keep getting better at RPing and writing. Myself, I've fallen out of love with roleplaying in general, and this site in particular. There's still good people here, but I've learned enough and seen enough that I'm not confident this site is going good places. Tanderbolt's moving on. Where am I going after this? I don't know, but to quote Raymond Carver, "I'm always learning something. Learning never ends.". Good night, ladies, good night

Name: Grace Liu is her given name, usually goes by an alias in her line of work
Age: 39
Species: Human Mage (the Technocracy insists on using the term Enlightened Personnel)

Appearance:

Personality: Grace is a true believer in the Technocracy and its mission for a safe and superstition free humanity. She is well versed in the formalities of the Technocracy’s culture and shares the cold and rational outlook common within its ranks. However, she is also chronically stressed as a result of the demands of her job, and more willing to take a pragmatic approach to the enforcement, concentrating on the big picture and spirit of the rules rather following policy by rote. When dealing with the public she initially uses a friendly demeanor, projecting an almost unnatural kindness, but she finds it difficult maintain this when things get contentious. In formal technocracy settings she falls back into the default bureaucratic personality of unquestioning loyalty and obedience, but outside that she is more relaxed and isn’t afraid to mince words.

Biography: Grace had a normal middle class upbringing in a suburb of Seattle, her father worked for Boeing and her mother taught part time at the local community college. From an early age she exceeded academically, almost equally in the humanities and the hard sciences. She was very academically oriented and had few friends in high school, always finding excuses to avoid socialization and even holding a little contempt for the common masses.

Grace went to college on a considerable scholarship, and had difficulty choosing a major, but eventually finished and moved on to graduate school. In graduate school she was even more indecisive, and bounced between department accumulating credits and working as a research assistant. Little legends began to pass around the department about how some experiments seemed to work differently when she was around, and she became valuable in an environment where a steady stream of publishing papers dictated who earned tenure.
While she was on her long and winding path, the Technocracy approached her. Considerable amounts of observation had given them reason to believe that she would be useful on their side, and she gladly accepted. Joining the Technocracy would mean leaving almost of her old life behind, but Grace never had much of one so didn’t mind making the sacrifice. After considerable training she was assigned a position within the NWO, away from field work.

She proved excellent at cataloging information and analyzing the intel on reality deviants gathered by the Technocracy’s vast bureaucracy, but over time she came to worry that her talents were being wasted working as a glorified librarian. Enlightened personnel were a rare resource, and they were especially valuable on the front lines of the conflict. Sensing an opportunity for advancement, she became a field agent, and was assigned to the Southern California region. The massive amount of media meant that the Syndicate exercised heavy influence over Technocracy operations in the area, NWO presence was undermanned, overworked, and usually on the losing end of territorial fights with the Syndicate. Turnover was excessively high, and soon enough Grace found herself the NWO field operative in charge of all of Los Angeles County. The work is stressful and unrewarding, especially with recent shakeups, but she has stayed in the position longer than anyone else so far, and considers it a success if she can just stop any major trouble from being noticed by masses.

I made a Technocracy-aligned character, is that alright?

Nailing boards was a simple task, but it was one that Bill was well acquainted with. Usually he got paid for it, but with so many windows shattered before the storm, he felt bad trying to gouge people. Word would get around town, and there plenty of others putting in the work to help their neighbors. Now, this act of charity didn’t prevent him from handing out business flyers, or parking his work van in a prominent place for everyone to see. This time he felt the need to work extra hard since he had slept in and missed the initial surge of people helping, he didn’t have any early work scheduled today. He also made sure to tell property owners about how he could do a little more weatherproofing , just some caulk here or a few rubberized strips there, to really seal it and make sure it withstands in the wind and the rain. With luck he’d be able to line a few jobs for later in the day.

He left flyers when he didn’t see the building owners around, just to let them know that he could help out. Right now he was placing one at the Yoon’s grocery shop, figuring that they might have some work for him. Windows were not something he did by himself, but he knew people that could help out with them, and he could always try to see if there was some other repair job worth doing around. So many of the buildings around town center were old and after the timber and mining interests moved out many found it hard to scrounge up the money for renovations or new construction. The housing development was the exception to the rule, of course.

Bill walked back to his van to get more nails for the next round. He looked around the street a little. He saw Brooks in the distance next to a streetlight having a talk with someone, but didn’t want to interrupt. With any luck they’d have time to catch up at happy hour together before the storm hit. While leaning up against his van Bill saw Jackson Pryce walking on the other side of the street, who was unfamiliar to him. He appreciated seeing the young man help out, but wondered if he knew something about what happened. Bill always said that they raised kids right in Verona, but you never know what people are doing in other places. He waved to Jackson and said “Hey, how’s it going? This mess’ll take a while to clean up.” Bill tried to act friendly like he knew Jackson, but he could not recall if they had ever met.
Well, I'm gonna be bold and make a character that hasn't manifested their powers at the start of the RP. Here he is.

Look up to see what happened to the ceiling to fit that thing inside the building.

Stephen was glad to see James around. Getting his hair ruffled wasn’t his favorite thing but it was just James’s way of saying hello. He also saw Jasmine around in the hallway. She was more annoying, and Stephen had done his best avoid encounters with her. Fortunately they lived in separate buildings, but unfortunately she frequently found excuses to visit the boy’s dormitories. May she should spend more time practicing, but maybe she was good enough that she didn’t need it. Sometimes it struck him as odd that he got along with James and not Jasmine, both cared a lot about sports and very little about academics, unlike him. However, James had humility and an introspective nature that Stephen never saw in Jasmine. It made him much more pleasant to deal with.

As long as the bell was ringing, it was worth doing something about. That was something that they all could agree on. Who would take action was a matter that was up for debate. Stephen preferred that it be someone other than him. He got up from his chair and held out his tool kit to offer it to someone else, and said

“This toolkit has wire cutters and a screwdriver set. A lot of times they use weird screws on these covers, but this should be able to get by trying a couple and seeing if they fit. The wire cutters are simple, just use them to cut a wire without shocking yourself. And please, if you’re done with it I’d like you to put the tools back the way you found them.”

Stephen thought that if things went south and someone got caught, James would have a good chance of getting off scott-free. Familial wealth definitely had its benefits. He didn’t particularly care if Jasmine got caught, it might even teach her some discipline. He stepped stepped out of his dorm room, nudging a loose binder of schoolwork next to the door to a different section of his dorm room floor along his way. He felt small standing near James and Jasmine. Both of them could be intimidating when they wanted to, they were the sorts of people who would be great starting points if you wanted to find the genes to make a super-athlete. Stephen said

“I can show you where I think the wiring might be, but I won’t stick around. If anyone asks, it wasn’t my idea, and you didn’t tell me why you needed the toolkit.”

While talking he paid attention to James, but also giving the occasional glare to Jasmine, intimating that he wasn’t particularly happy to see her. After the matter of the bell was finished he could think about other things he was putting off, like his research paper or making up his mind about going to the cove tonight.
