@Tatsua AiisenWhat makes you say she would me useless, or an immortal? Also are you like Chao's friend or something? I haven't seen you at all in this RP. Sorry I see now. Still wondering why you think she's immortal though lol.
It's pretty obvious why. It's literally stated in the description of their abilities.
Um, I've pretty much been here since the start. Mine was one of the earliest characters posted. Also, barebones introductory post out of the way.
Location: Saturn PrisonIf he didn't know that she was being help captive already, Dr. David Peterson would know immediately upon entering the 200 meter danger zone surrounding her cell. He would know this, of course, because whether he wanted it to or not, his mind would brush against her own.
<Don't be stupid,> Amelia transmits apathetically from her full-body restraints. <I will only warn you once. Whether you're trying to free me or not, if you try to read my mind, you will die.> With that warning hanging in the air, the young telepath relaxes. She could tell by the ambient thoughts of those around her that this was a rescue of some sort. Her old self would probably rage impatiently, struggling uselessly against her bindings in an attempt to get out first and take revenge on everyone who put her in here.
But not this time.
Calming her rage, she lets her thoughts enter into the serene state she had grown used to, cooped up in this prison cell nobody to keep her company besides her own thoughts. She had long since ceased trying to contact the mindless bodies used to tend to her needs and guard her cell. No matter what she said, they didn't seem to listen. Sometimes, she even had trouble telling exactly where they were.
Quite a lot of effort just to stop her from spying on them.
She can feel the doctor approaching. Her time is soon. With the sound of electronic locks releasing and air being sucked out of her small cell, Amelia raises her head to look vaguely in the direction of the man who had given her another chance at escape. A chance which she would take gladly. After repeating the warning about touching her mind to the doctor, she wraps a few scraps of cloth from her restraints around herself to preserve at least some of her modesty, before following along with whatever David had planned.
She didn't care about all of this hero bullshit, but she wasn't about to go staring charity in the mouth. When you've lived on the streets for a few hundred years, you learn to take what's given to you.
Location: The Mansion
To say that Amelia was the brooding loner of the group would not be inaccurate. Throughout the entirety of the flight, she said nothing, instead silently chewing on the end of a toothpick she had scavenged on the way there, covering herself with a spare flight jacket she had found under one of the seats.
Now that she was at the mansion, without so much as a word towards her fellow group members or apparent host, she wastes no time going off on her own to sort her personal needs out before bothering to consider the needs of others. She steals some clothes, washes her face and other areas, steals six pencils and a box of paperclips and then heads to sit in the corner of the main hall. When it was time for people to test their abilities, she stays in the adjacent room, silently listening to proceedings from the sidelines.
This is where she belonged. She wasn't a hero, no more than any of these showoffs. Her eye twitches a little as she vaguely senses the intentions of their brave host, inviting her to come and show her abilities off next. Loudly, so that the entire group in the room could hear her response, Amelia answers <No thanks, Doc. I don't do show-and-tell.>
She smiles, just a little, at the irony of her response. In responding at all, she was in a sense showcasing her own abilities even through her refusal to cooperate with the demonstration. Either way, the entire group would now be aware that she was a telepath of some sort. The only reason she chose to reveal this was because it gave no actual hint to her full capabilities. It was, in a way, a very carefully calculated bluff.
Hopefully David wouldn't try and force her to showcase her abilities further, or participate in their little group bonding exercises. She was already humouring him enough simply by remaining at the mansion. A girl can only take so much stupidity before she cracks.
Um, has it been mentioned yet that @sakurasan's character is either an immortal goddess to which no conceivable enemy is a threat, or so utterly useless that she dies the instant she uses her ability?
@Tatsua Aiisen I didn't read that in the bio, must've sidestepped. My bad.
I tried to limit her backstory to what happened to her, immediately, rather than accidentally stepping on any toes by trying to define the world (since you haven't given any setting information yet). Because of this, it may not have been immediately obvious where her life is happening in relation to everything else. Sorry~
@Tatsua Aiisen Did you read the lore of this roleplay. The wave field that had hit Earth gave the Gifted their powers, they didn't awaken their powers somehow.
I know. Why do you think her powers "awakened" at the same time as the wave field arriving?
Name: Amelia Brinks Appearance: Small, but well-built due to the hardness of her years, Amelia forms a striking image with her short-cut golden blonde hair and stormy-grey eyes. She has yet to reach the height of her development as a woman, sporting only budding breasts and unremarkable hips. She could be attractive, if the look in her eyes wasn't so off-putting. Age: 15 (Mental Age: Appox. 500 years) Power:Telepathy: At her core, Amelia's ability is an advanced form of telepathy, and she retains the capabilities of a run-of-the-mill telepath alongside her usage of her more unique telepathic abilities. She is able to reach out with her consciousness, forming a psionic connection and communicating thoughts, images and words freely. The range limit to this bond is approximately 200 meters, although the strength of her connection does wane slightly as one reaches this radius's extremities. Less effective on humans with reduced mental functionality, and virtually ineffective with animals. Includes the ability to fight off other telepaths, in the event of mental intrusion.
-Telepathic Awareness: An innate "sense" of the location of nearby minds, that functions passively and without the need to form a psionic connection. Using this, she can gain a precise idea of wherever people might be anywhere within the range of her telepathic abilities. Comparable to "brushing" against the minds of anyone affects, so she can also gain some insight into the immediate thoughts and mental states of anything she can sense. However, if she brushes past the mind of another Telepath, they will be immediately aware of her trespass and know that, if not where she is exactly, that she is somewhere nearby. She cannot turn this ability off.
-FLASHBACK: Amelia's true "gift", with the rest simply being a byproduct of her psionic awakening. At the instant of one's death, it is said that their entire life flashes before their eyes. To Amelia, this is an unfortunate truth, as she is forced to relive the entirety of the dying one's life whenever somebody dies while under the effect of her telepathic bond. One's mental resistance is effectively reduced to zero when they die, so no amount of psychic barriers can prevent her last-second intrusion into your psyche.
Afterwards, Amelia retains all memories and experiences possessed by the person before death, and she cannot forget them until she herself finds her end. Her brain's ability to store information is vastly increased from an ordinary human, but the cram is still very traumatic to her young mind, and she has suffered vast amounts of mental trauma from the countless experiences stored inside of her.
This special, incredibly penetrative form of telepathy is usable only on an individual who is about to die. Against any other human, the protection of their subconscious would prevent her from accessing their most innermost memories.
Personality: Something of an amalgamation of some twenty or so minds, all victims of hers before her reign of terror was abruptly cut short, Amelia's true personality can be a bit hard to pinpoint. In prison, she's had some time to come to terms with her shattered psyche, and thus is able to better control the thrumming memories lying below the surface of her mind. She is a cynical entity, brooding and harshly critical of others, but not lacking empathy for their situations. She has had many experiences, most negative, and thus has a better time understanding the pain of others. Despite this, she shows a tough, and even apathetic exterior that turns others off from her.
She naturally gives the impression of being far, far beyond her years, and with a supernatural wisdom. As is to be expected from somebody whose collective memories end up with over five hundred years of life. As fragile as you would think this would make her, she has been hardened by her experiences, and showcases a virtually unbreakable willpower that does not falter under any circumstance.
She can be a bit violent at times, as many of the people who she has killed have all been "bad guys". She has no qualms about killing, and fears no death herself, as she has experienced it firsthand many times over. The definition of edgy.
History: Amelia was a somewhat ordinary lower-class girl born into a broken home. She was frequently abused, in multiple ways, by her stepfather, and her mother couldn't get her head out of her drink long enough to do anything about it. She probably would have died, with the frequency of her abuse rising as her stepfather's business ventures failed more frequently, until one day: she was forced to defend herself. By then, she had already awoken her Gift, although she was not in control of it.
In an instant, when she absorbed her dying stepfather's memories, her mentality was accelerated to that of an adult's. She was young, and with only 13 years worth of memories under her belt. Compared to that, the thirty-something years of life absorbed from her stepfather was overwhelming. The size of her memories virtually tripled, she naturally became a little confused, becoming a sort of hybrid of hers and her stepfather's memories.
She was filled with a black fury, stemming from having been killed by her own stepdaughter, who she had raised and provided for despite her slut mother's inadequacies. Her mind was broken, and scattered. She was a monster.
For the next few years, her activities consisted mostly of trying to survive on the streets. Her stepfather's incredible temper got her into trouble more than once, and in the end, she had to kill more street scum than she could count in order to keep living. Until she was eventually captured, and sent to a place where she could sit in quiet, sorting out her shattered mentality. And that she did.
@Chaotic Chao Just thought I'd ask if you realize your character doesn't have any sort of radiation resistance. You are literally going to die the instant you use your abilities. Trying to be helpful~
Name: El Race: Fairy Appearance: El is approximately 5 and a quarter inches tall, and weighs in at less than a pound. She has a set of carefully maintained, insect-like wings on her back, which are clear, but faintly pale in colour. Her hair is a rich, golden blonde, and is typically worn short so as not to get in the way of flying. Naturally, her figure is that of a child's, meaning she has no breasts or hips to speak of. Additionally, she doesn't have much in the way of clothing, wearing mostly a few scraps of brownish cloth when she can find it.
With so little body to work with, it is quite hard for a fairy to express their individuality through their appearance. For this purpose, El wears a tiny scrap of red cloth around her wrist. How very fashionable of her.
Inventory: N/A (Fairies can't hold items)
Special Abilities:
Fairy Physiology: All qualities inherent to members of the Fairy race are conferred. Includes Innate Flight, Darkvision, and Air Sense (The ability to sense nearby movements in the air, useful for navigating while flying at high speeds.) She also has more natural magical power than the regular suite of mortal races, due to being of an innately magical species. Unfortunately, this also means she's really a Fairy, and thus suffers all negative implications of that definition.
Like not being able to carry items. And dying in one hit. She's just lucky her species isn't ACTUALLY deathly allergic to iron, although they can't handle air pollution of most kinds, so that isn't much better.
Enhanced Flight: A trained skill that relies more on Magic than pure physical flight, enhanced flight consumes magical energy in exchange for enhancing one's flight speed vastly. As hard as it is to hit fairies most of the time, this only serves to make them even harder to hit. Can be used to initiate near instant stops or accelerations, similarly to a miniature boost.
Berserk: The power to tap into and enhance the raw power of one's anger, throwing them into a fearsome battle rage. As comical as this sounds coming from a Fairy, as the effect on her physical strength is negligible, El seems to channel this power into increasing her battle awareness and allowing her to fight on nothing but vicious instinct.
Levitate: A spell for causing an object to hover or fly, and to manipulate its trajectory, spin and velocity through the application of magical power and a strong connection to the user's mind. Places a certain burden on the caster based on the relative mass of the object being levitated, but the burden is magical, and thus has a toll on their mind rather than their body. A very versatile skill, and one that reacts to the caster's thoughts rather than solely manual control.
Personality: El, much like a vast majority of her race, is most often restless, deathly annoying and inquisitive as all hell. Her naturally curious and mischievous nature means she can't leave people alone, even if they ask nicely or swing swords at her. Fortunately, she can be distracted with a humble offering of shiny objects or food, which will bring out her childish naivety and inherent friendlyness like nothing else.
She is, however, a bit of an oddball among her species.
The darkness in her heart is as strong as, if not stronger, than most of the "big people" out there. Her mind is wired for war, she doesn't rest well, and has trouble getting along with others for long periods of time. She has a temper, and sometimes, she just snaps. Hates people who run away from a fight. Loves sweet things, and alcohol (even though she's quite young).
History: El has no idea what reason she could have possibly had for becoming the person she is now. The only thing that can be said is that, whatever in this world can do this to a Fairy, of all creatures, that force is not good. There is a smell of blood on her, one that hints to a great many battles.
I'm sorry Hawlin, but I think I win the smallest character title.
@vietmyke Since you mentioned a monarch, can you be more specific about the political structure of Edessa?
The skill level classifications are, as I see it, pretty unnecessary. At our age, just the ability to do anything at all is pretty significant, and it's doubtful we'll have any skills worth mentioning beyond that. It also doesn't apply well to pretty much any mental skills, save magic.
