Bio

Yes my name is shit, please don't refer to me by it. Just call me Alpha.

I'm mail and my thing is science fiction. If it involves space travel, I've probably looked into it, since that's my big shebang although I am rather fond of cyberpunk and near-future as well. I'm also big on Atompunk, which is essentially taking the nuclear-obsession and Cold War hysteria of the United States from about 1946-1968. Best example of that is the Fallout games (Which, yes, is one of my favorite series of video games).

I'll do other kinds of roleplay but I really like Nation Roleplay, and typically the sci-fi ones since it's fun making new races, tech, etc. As a result I do like me certain empire-building RTS's and 4X games, like Civilization, Rise of Nations, O.R.B., (And maybe Sins of a Solar Empire if I had a better computer ;-;).

Feel free to enjoy what I've written, I don't have much since I do this rather casually.

Almata Space; Kuran Defense Enterprises, Inc. Sales Transition Office - Almata Branch, Almata

A combined warfleet 35 ships strong abruptly exited from their slipspace transition as they phased through rips in space and continued onward into the space around Almata. As they neared the planet's exosphere, a Vigilance-Class Supercarrier, KDS Endeavor, aligned itself in a geosynchronous orbit as it prepared to launch dozens of dropships full of KDE soldiers, mercenaries, and vehicles to begin a heavy recovery operation on the surface. As it began to slow its decent, a long, sleek Valiance-Class Cruiser, KDS Graceful Forgoing sped past as the scoop-shaped Shaped Plasma Discharge Array began powering its massively powerful magnets and began to generate a large swathe of plasma.

As a preparation shot, the cruiser fired four weaker bursts into the atmosphere. They wouldn't reach far enough to cause significant damage but burned hot enough to ionize the air and leave a bright flash and stench of ozone. When the time came, Graceful Forgoing would switch to her eight starboard magnetic accelerator cannons and begin to lay waste to any major opposition on the already crumbling surface of the once-glorious capital of the empire.

Once preparations had been set, dropships and fighters spewed from the titanium and carbon-steel alloy hornet's nest that was Endeavor. Making steady headway to reach the ruins of the Almata Transition Office.

As these dropships neared the surface, the ones carrying vehicles opened bay doors as massive tanks and armored personnel carriers dropped from them and impacted on the surface. They aligned themselves into a convoy to move through the streets. A bulldozer-type tank took the lead, and between its massive, earth-gripping treads a large blade began to protrude. Once it was passed the tread-holdings it unfolded on either sides to measure a dozing blade five meters across. The KT-3 lifted its large railgun turret upwards and pushed forward, clearing any debris that came in its way. The 24 vehicles following it soon picking up pace.

The vehicles had finally reached the office, and as reports indicated it was in complete shambles. The normally 6-story, advanced office building was missing two and a half of its floors. There were fires all throughout and the blue-tinted glass was stained black. Columns were crumbling and parts were swaying in the wind. It wouldn't be standing for much longer.

Soldiers rushed from their vehicles and got into the building, making sure to look around and check to make sure there were any survivors. They made sure to act as quickly as possible, but before all of the men could get out the building collapsed in a violent explosion of dust, stone, and steel. Soldiers looked through their HUDs as the life support indicators of three of their own flatlined.

With the remaining KDE employees in tow, the soldiers rendezvoused with the support force that was planetside prior to the sacking. The lead of the convoy, Commander Tarin Kattra, met up with Captain Vaz Kamu to discuss how to handle the relief and evacuation efforts. But remained cautious and hesitant, being sure to make sure that no sudden invaders wold turn up uninvited.
Kuran Central Administrative Center, Kabo Prime

Harman Kuran was in a state of absolute panic and had no idea what to do or perceive of the situation. Contact had turned up red and stagnant on all communication networks with the Almata Office and his security force was on high alert as he feared for the worst. He carried a digital clipboard, nestled in his arm, showing many red numbers and percentages as the past few weeks have shown a steady hemorrhage of funds regarding the Arcturan Miltary Authority. He looked out of his office; massive floor-to-ceiling windows that showed the twilight gleaming over a massive technological city. The setting was serene, almost deliberately juxtaposed with the fear and panic that was consuming the young business leader. A bead of sweat trickled from his temple, down his tanned skin to a bearded chin. He heard a hiss from the autosliding door to his office.

"Mr. Kuran, Sir." a voice called out. It was meek and feminine. Harman pivoted on his feet almost instantly. He was relieved yet at the same time even more panicked that his director of heavy armament sales was there. Her expression was solemn, and her skin was nearly pale.

"Yes, Ms. Mantin, how may I help you?" he asked, trying to hide the haste in his voice.

"The...shipment of two Vision-Class Frigates to Almata we sent a month ago. They've disappeared."

"Disappeared?!" The word rang in his head like a massive bell. "Hijacked? Destroyed?!"

"N-no, sir...we're not sure, we just know that they're not being picked up on any broadband signal, and their identifiers have been removed completely."

Harman began to pace around the office again. Director Mantin stared at him with a look of concern as he breathed heavily and started looking around his office; almost as if he were trying to find a way to escape. Finally, he stopped, swiveled again to lock eyes with her, and asked, "Ms. Mantin, do you have any word on the news of the Almata Transition Office?"

If there were a way for the slender woman to lose any color to her complexion, it was how she looked at that moment. Her jaw began to quake, and she began frantically cycling through tabs on her digital clipboard. "S-sir?! You haven't heard? I cannot believe-"

"Haven't heard what, Sina?" Harman's eyes widened. He really was fearing for the worst.

"Sir, Almata has been completely sacked...who or why, but-" she inhaled sharply, "the fate of the office and those who crewed it are completely unknown." She strode over to Premier Kuran VII and nearly shoved the clipboard in his face. The screen displayed a large headline in bold, block lettering:

Almata in Ruin. Casualties High. Evacuations Ordered.

Without saying a word, the man nearly sprinted towards his desk. He tapped onto a holo-transceiver and primed to send a message to Military Services and Fleet Command. Nearly screaming, he barked, "I need a fleet and a capable ground force en route to Almata as soon as possible! This is on a need-to-know basis and I need to be informed as frequently as possible on progress!"

Harman stepped back from the transceiver, his anxiety almost taking full swing. He slumped into his chair and let his head fall into his hands, weakly waving off Director Mantin.

Sales Director Marn Kan slowly began dusting himself off after regaining consciousness. The normally sturdy wall in the west part of his office was completely blown apart. In its place was a gaping hole, and what little of the cityscape he could see was accompanied by a hazy sky, black plumes of smoke rising in the sky, and fire. He turned away from the sight and looked around the remnants of his office. Everything was blown in and smoking. Soot flew in with he wind. KD-S5, his service droid, was in pieces all over the ground. Marn looked looked around and thought that it was a miracle that he didn't suffer a fate like the machine.

He stepped through the office door and walked down the crumbling stairs and outside of the complex. Some KDE reserve soldiers were around him. The heavy boots of their power armor stomping through ash and dirt. A KA-1 hover-APC drifted passed and stopped in front of him, a soldier on the side bay extended a metallic glove to pull him up and he did so quickly. Still trying to get his bearings, he looked at the soldier through the yellow, narrow visor on his helmet and asked, "W-what happened? What's going on?"

The soldier looked above the sky for what seemed to be minutes. Scanning the horizon around him. Hearing chatter through his helmet of plasma, laser, and artillery fire. He raised his arms and pulled off his helmet with a small "hiss" and looked at Director Kan with a solemn thousand-yard stare.

"Sir...Almata is gone." he said coldly. Not because of the apathy, but because he wasn't sure how to process the carnage that had unfolded.

"G-gone? I, I-"

"We've been ordered to evacuate the complex and stand our ground until we can receive aid from a better fighting force. Until then we have orders that--now knowing you're alive--involve protecting you. Get into the main bay of this vehicle, we'll be leaving shortly."

At a complete loss for words, Marn nodded his head and and climbed over the soldier, the large carbosteel hatch peeled open, and he slid in.
OOC's been dead. Are we going to start soon?
I think we should better sculpt out relations between factions

One way of doing that could be setting these factions as they reach or pull out from Almata of they have stakes in it. It gives the idea that people are trying to escape the carnage or try and take the spoils of war for themselves to take the empire.
What's the progress on the applications? I'm kind of anxious to get this show on the road
@all:

Important announcement- real life issues have just come up in a big way. I'm not sure that I will be able to devote the time and energy necessary here to be a successful GM. If anyone would like to take over this RP, please let me know, you're more than welcome to it. I'll be more than happy to help get things started with this, but I just can no longer GM properly.

My apologies to everyone involved, I had thought I would have sufficient time for this, but circumstances have changed for me (not in a bad way).

No worries, friend! Hope everything is okay with yo, we'll keep the RP going strong in your honor. :~)
All I really want is Flagg to give standards for FTL systems. Spaceship technology I suspect would benefit from Flagg giving a reference design of a "standard" imperial fleet ship to modify for players who have ships based on Aucturian designs.

This all the way. There are so many different science fiction assets with different ways of approaching FTL travel. For this I wonder if the Halo universe's method of slipstream space tunneling is the most rational and easy to explain.
It may be a good idea to establish the tech standard of the Aucturian Empire since multiple factions are using Aucturian tech.

Especially with FTL systems.

I concur. I noticed in tech terms that some weapons are magnetic. My app introduces antimatter as well.
If anyone has a similarly capitalistic, would they mind trying to tie in with my group? I can adjust accordingly but essentially establishing the idea that they're trade partners with KDE and as a way have a way to build narrative based on that cooperation. That or they can be against KDE and involve some way as a competitor.
ACCEPTED

First time doing this in a while, but I figure I can give it a shot.

"There had to be a man that said 'let there be light.' So that may be. But before me was there a man that said 'let there be prosperity?' If nobody has, hell, I figure I can be the first."
-Harman Kuran, founder of KDE, Inc.

Faction Name: Kuran Defense Enterprises, Inc.

Faction Type: (Loyalist, Pretender, etc) Pretender/Reactionaries

Faction leader(s): Premier Harman Kuran VII: The seventh generation of the Kuran family that has run KDE as it began as a small business as it evolved into a sprawling materiel supply and trade group for the the Empire. While many would describe him as "despotic," he's been shown to offer a wide field of choice to those who work for him and live as citizens on the worlds and stations he's in control of. With military experience with the Arcturan Empire, he helped develop the business as his father and his father's father (and so on) had developed it. A mind for business and defense, he upholds the need for military might and organization, and thus establishes his business model in a similar way in order to turn a profit.

System(s)/Territory:

Kabo System: In the central rim of the empire. It's dotted with a few gas giants, two terran planets (Both occupied by KDE), and many stations and factories in orbit around a red giant star.

Planet(s)/Holdings:

Kabo Prime: A primarily Earth-like planet, Kabo Prime is the main commercial center for KDE. Dotted with spaceports and office buildings, it exists as the economic and administrative capital of the system. The primary capital district, including the offices for the Premier and his cabinet. It also exists as a central armory and arming facility. There are many cities on it, and there are testing facilities in a large desert in the lower hemisphere of the planet. The military is also established on this planet.

Kabo Minor: The single moon of Kabo Prime and used as a logistics center for KDE. Most major communications arrays and observation equipment are on the natural satellite, and is also established as a deployment center for KDE's military, freight, and merchant marine fleets.

Masmar: The second terran planet in the Kabo system. It is smaller and is majorly frozen over due to its farther distance from the sun. Used as a training camp for spacefaring men and women serving in the faction. It features many facilities dedicated to everything from security, to ship running, to in-space and on-ground combat. Masmar also contains massive mining facilities too, after the discovery that the planet was rich with deposits of fissile (uranium and naturally-occurring thorium) and fusible (underground pockets of liquid hydrogen and helium) material to use both in weapons and in energy production, this system of mines is known as KDE Mining Installation System 001.

Space Station Artemis: A large space station that operates as a mobile logistics and deployment center not dissimilar to Kabo Minor. It is also a major refueling point for capital ships and freighters that go to and fro, and are unable to land planetside on Kabo Prime.

KDE Mining Installation System 002: The asteroid belt between Masmar and Kabo Prime, and the two (uninhabitable, unclaimed) gas giants is dotted with mining facilities with the purpose of extracting iron, titanium, tungsten, and other metals through strip and pit mining. Both for construction and for trade.

Faction/Government Desc:
Kuran Defense Enterprises is led primarily by Harman VII but has a consistently changing cabinet under him that is in charge of everything from foreign and domestic affairs, to military strength, to, of course, trade and money management. His ruling is relatively fair but still institutes a code of law in order to properly govern people that exist as citizens and as employees. A heavily numbers-based government, the things that matter most are strength, influence, and turning a large profit.

History:

With an Arcturan-granted loan, Harman Kuran I founded Kuran Defense Solutions in 3150 as a way of trading around supplies, weapons, and mercenaries (Whom Kuran would flatter with the term "soldiers of fortune") around the empire for small factions to use and for the Empire. Although often embittered because of his practices, the Arcturan Empire saw economic development and bolstered military strength thanks to the amount of money the empire received through it through taxes and supply. By the time of his death, Harman Kuran I had turned a small business into a burgeoning trading corporation. By the time his grandson had taken over, it had become an economic empire in itself.

It was Harman III's son however, that threatened the integrity of the business. Regarded as a true despot, he attempted to use the company as a small private military force and attempted to spread to other systems in an effort to grow and conquer, in one day of hope to take over the Arcturan Empire. Ultimately, it failed before it could grow very large, mainly because Harman V had forcefully deposed his father in an attempt to save the company. However, learning from it after numerous raids, attacks, and sabotage by competitors, decided to develop a focus both as a military service provider and as a military itself. Under his direction, KDE moved to become more of a functioning nation, and not just a business.

While this continued to grow into under Harman Kuran VI, his son, and the current premier of the company, took it farther as he began to see the Empire begin to deteriorate. Afraid of losing money due to the destruction of the highest-paying customer, Harman Kuran VII has steadily been deciding on taking matters into his own hand. With a much more powerful military amassed since his great-grandfather's attempted coup d'etat, he has slowly been developing his business with the ideal goal of taking over the failing leadership's economy, and then the rest to drive a powerful capitalistic empire of his own.

Relations with the Empire and Other Factions:

As a major materiel supplier, KDE has been important in moving weapons, armor, vehicle, and resource shipments all across the empire. Alongside this, it has presence all over, recruiting mercenaries both into its ranks and as a resource to use. As a driving force behind the economy, KDE has important roles in supporting the economy of the empire, and with that in its grip easily has the power to manipulate its military and freight lines to influence other factions that it is aligned with, and severing trade with its enemies.

Military Capabilities:

The main warships for KDE are as follows:
