Well if you want to be someone who would specifically be hated by the hordes, perhaps your branch had a period of time during which it oversaw the culling forces? Just a thought. The main base for the culling forces was destroyed but they really hate that part of the empire. lol

Still deciding whether I'm a branch or royal sibling. If sibling, I might have it so that Kalzerian was partially in charge of the Culling Force. If branch, then I will have it as such. But what do you think a good name would be for that organization, or at least one the Hordes use?

It may be a good idea to establish the tech standard of the Aucturian Empire since multiple factions are using Aucturian tech.

Especially with FTL systems.

I concur. I noticed in tech terms that some weapons are magnetic. My app introduces antimatter as well.

On the subject of establishing a history the Empire's encounter with an earlier Supreme Hordelord came pretty early on in the Empire's existence as the original Emperor was still around.

I think for the sake of explaining the widely different themes and technologies, we should say the empire was big enough that technology differed from system to system, becoming less standardized the farther you got from the center of the empire. The same goes for other things that may differ among players with ties to the empire.

History wise the Consortium comes into play way later, so I can't really give much input for early imperial history beyond what events occurred back in the 25th century (of the Imperial Era). I suppose the question on if the Consortium centuries earlier encountered the horde leaves some room. I think however, that the Horde not being in close contact with the Consortium may be a more interesting route.

What is important to me is what the horde's activity in the past four hundred years is like since if their incursions into the Empire were recent, it gives weight to my claim that the Empire focused on other threats beyond the Consortium despite the Consortium's notoriety for their abhorrence. A massive xeno horde is just much more scary that those freaks near the border on the spinward front who are for all intents and purposes "contained".

All I really want is Flagg to give standards for FTL systems. Spaceship technology I suspect would benefit from Flagg giving a reference design of a "standard" imperial fleet ship to modify for players who have ships based on Aucturian designs.

@Arawak There were three Supreme Hordelord invasions of the Empire before our time. The first was in the time of the Emperor, the second was in about 1000 IE, and the third can easily have been around 400 years ago.

There were also a decent number of smaller Hordelord incursions. The Culling force couldn't stop them all afterall, especially in the more recent years as the Culling Force grew weaker.

I'm not really interested in playing as a nation, but rather a small set of characters (isn't that all anyone's nation is anyway?).

Faction name: Excoriator
Faction type: Loyalist
Faction leaders: Captain Lisandro Orelios, Commissar Vlatis Sarien
System: None
Holdings: None
Bio: The Excoriator is a Nestra-class heavy cruiser. Like other heavy cruisers in the Arcturian Armada, the Excoriator was built to bridge the gap between the massive dreadnoughts and carriers and nimble light cruisers and frigates. The result of this marriage of strength and speed is a vessel with sufficient firepower to take down mighty destroyer-class vessels, and the agility to escape these mightier vessels in the event that the battle goes sour. The Excoriator boasts such tremendous firepower and admirable thruster output on the part of two fusion powerhouses. As one of the smallest vessels in the Armada to carry multiple fusion cells, the Excoriator has the endurance to sustain battle, conduct energy-intensive maneuvers, or any combination of the two.

To be sure, a vessel as versatile as the Excoriator requires an exceptionally talented commander to take full advantage of its strengths. Even so, one can scarcely imagine a commander as well-suited for the Excoriator as the celebrated Captain Lisandro Orelios. Captain Orelios first cut his teeth during the Cerulae Insurrection, one of those initial brushfire conflicts that precipitated the current crisis. At the helm of the frigate Saint Dyann, Captain Orelios performed a daring entry into Cerulae's atmosphere through a barrage of anti-orbital fire to land his vessel deep behind the rebellion's borders. From a hidden landing site within the rugged jungles of that planet, Orelios and his crew launched a counter-insurgency against military outposts and manufacturing centers on the surface. His prowess and initiative at Cerulae earned Captain Orelios command of the Excoriator.

Since the onset of the Pretender Crisis, Captain Orelios and his stalwart crew aboard the Excoriator have performed admirably - but have not had the opportunity to distinguish themselves. That chance came unexpectedly, when Commissar Vlatis Sarien - one of the noblemen appointed with politically-oriented posts within the Armada - rendezvoused with the Excoriator during classified patrol maneuvers. Commissar Sarien brought with him dire news: Almata had come under a relentless siege. Captain Orelios knew he had to make haste for the imperial homeworld at once, but he would have never believed his assigned mission had a Commissar not personally delivered the order.

And so, Captain Orelios and his crew divert immediately from their patrol in the remote Hinterland Space with this mysterious Commissar aboard to carry out his daring mission at Almata.

This all the way. There are so many different science fiction assets with different ways of approaching FTL travel. For this I wonder if the Halo universe's method of slipstream space tunneling is the most rational and easy to explain.

Just agree to something easy to explain and roll with it. No need to get caught up with details. That's how RP's die with dozens of pages of OOC and zero IC posts.

I'd imagine that Horde incursions into Acturan-controlled space have been a perpetual problem for the Empire since its ascension to hyper-relevancy in galactic affairs.

If that's the case, I'd venture to say that the Great Horde has a number of looted Vilojaun zoids "titans" in its military inventory--much to the chagrin and fiery ire of both the Aspect Knights (we'll need to find a new Arcturan-appropriate name for them later) and Vilojaun Imperial subjects.

The Vilojaun race has probably long since declared an eternal "people's' jihad" against them.

I'll go with slipstream drives since a inter dimensional warp drive involving a warp-like dimension would be too much and perhaps too derivative of 40K.

Ok folks, love what I see so far. I will review the WIP sheets tomorrow and give feedback and also post my own faction. If you have any questions specifically for me, please include @Flagg in your post, that way I'm sure to see it! I will also likely set up a chat for us to use tomorrow.

I think we will be great friends.

Also, decided to make an attempt on the holdings section. @Flagg On the systems limit, do you mean 1-5 major star systems or 1-5 star systems period?

For a shared history, what if your faction is the one that has control of the three worlds the Alarethian are fighting to recover?

Maybe not all three, unless of course they're supposed to be in the same system. I could add one more system, I suppose.

Also, [@everyone/Pretenders], who will be the one to have sacked Almata?
