Hey what's up?
Just figured I should post what I've got so far. Give me your thoughts and all that good stuff.

"Tell your father I am here, and that the Lannisters aren't the only ones that pay their debts."
Oberyn Martell to Tyrion Lannister upon his arrival at Las Vegas.

Name: Oberyn Martell, "The Red Viper"

Affiliation: The Martell Cartel

Age: 40

Position: Acting head of operations

Personality: To be written

(Please note that the links are for visual aids or face-claims or whatever you choose to call them, outside of maybe Doran and Ellaria, they most likely won't be heavily involved, unless they become another player's PCs, of course.)
Family:

Doran Martell, Oberyn's elder brother and founder of the Martell drug Empire, Doran's health has taken a turn for the worst and he now spends the majority of his days at home, operating through his most trusted confidants.

Elia Martell, Oberyn's only sister, raped and murdered along with her children Aegon and Rhaenys by Gregor Clegane.

Ellaria, with whom Oberyn bore the youngest of his eight daughters; Elia, Obella, Dorea, and Loreza.

Obara, Nymeria, Tyene, and Sarella, the infamous "Sand Snakes".

Arianne, Doran's eldest child and only daughter, Arianne and her siblings have not yet been introduced to the criminal operations of their family.

Quentyn and Trystane, Oberyn's two nephews by Doran and Mellario.

History: Born in San Diego California ten years after his elder brother and a scarce one separating him and his sister, the Matriarch of the Martells always used to say Oberyn's birth was a miracle. During childhood and even into his criminal career, Oberyn remained fiercely close to his elder sister, Elia, and has jokingly stated that if not for her, he would've died by the age of twelve. One particularly memorable instance of Oberyn's knack for finding trouble was at the age of sixteen, when he was found in bed with Edgar Yronwood's (Doran's business associate.) mistress, two weeks later Edgar succumbed to a fever under mysterious circumstances. Ever since, Oberyn has been nicknamed the Red Viper.

In order to placate his peers, Doran sent his younger brother into faux-exile, and while many would think Oberyn would see this as an insult, the young Martell took it in stride, going so far as to study at the storied university known as the Citadel for an entire year before becoming bored and starting various stints as a professional fighter, musician, and poet. Years later, Oberyn would learn he had fathered several children along the way. Rather than use his family's resources to simply dismiss the children with child support and so on, Oberyn took full responsibility for the birth of his first four daughters, even raising them in the Martell's personal residence of Sunspear in San Diego. A loving and generally admirable father, Oberyn spared no expense to make his children happy, whether it be supporting Obara's athletic pursuits to paying Sarella's admission fee into the Citadel. Unlike what many would expect, the Sand Snakes are fully aware of Oberyn's life in the criminal underworld, and while they're theoretically uninvolved, no one has quite been able to dismiss the Viper's brood as harmless. It was also during this time that Oberyn met and fell in love with his mistress, Ellaria.

Oberyn saw his family for the first time in many years during the wedding of Elia Martell and Rhaegar Targaryen in Las Vegas, though his entourage of four young daughters and a woman who was mother to none of them gathered some odd glances and stares, Oberyn thoroughly enjoyed his time in the City of Sin and was even brought back into his brother's inner circle, where he remained for the next several years, earning a reputation for himself and his family within Las Vegas, and while many of their competitors saw the Martells instant rise to prominence with jealousy and disdain, Oberyn, along with the madness of his sister's father in law, ensured the more threatening of the Las Vegas families did not maneuver against the Targaryens' newest allies.

For a while, all was good in the world of the Martell family, but during the street wars culminating from Rhaegar's kidnapping of Lyanna Stark, Oberyn was unable to protect his sister when she was all but confined in Kings Landing. While Oberyn was furious and wanted to continue the conflict as long as possible to obtain vengeance, his brother stepped in and reached a diplomatic solution with the Lannister patriarch. Soon after, Oberyn abandoned Las Vegas and returned to San Diego, where he remained for some time before hearing the news of one Robert Baratheon's death and Tywin Lannister's rise to power. Seeing his opportunity to avenge his sister and her children, Oberyn, along with Ellaria made the trip to Las Vegas under the guise of taking over operations due to Doran's poor health.

Notes:

The Martells mainly operate out of Mexico and Southern California along the Baja Peninsula

Elia was uninvolved with her family's criminal operations, her marriage to Rhaegar was pure coincidence.
Just popping in to tell everyone I'm out of the house and won't be able to finish Oberyn until later tonight or tomorrow.

And might I add, I look forward to getting the Red Viper and the Bastard of Bolton in the same room.

Somehow.

Even if it makes absolutely no sense.

Is anyone still alive?

Just working on my sheet thus far, shouldn't take abnormally long.
Silver Carrot said But I bet you've watched the series. I haven't, and I'm not going to until I've read the books first.

That's awfully poo-pooy of you (family saying, I know it's weird.) I hadn't heard of A Song of Ice and Fire until Season 1 had come out and I pretty much devoured the books after the first few episodes.

Silver Carrot said And I know who the Greyjoys are but not the Martells.

I doubt you know the Greyjoys outside of Theon's inner monologues about them in Clash, unless of course you're at Feast, in which case excuse my ignorance.

But good sir, I'm sad to hear you haven't yet met the awesomeness personified that is House Martell/Dorne in general. I at least hope you've seen Oberyn in the books, since he's the one House Martell will be focused around in this seeing as Doran's busy having gout. Which I hope isn't too big a spoiler but y'know.
Xtreme said If you're going with a Mafia/Vegas type, I'm imagining the brothers of the Night's Watch, instead of being a family, more so being along the lines of a private security firm or mercenaries.

Wouldn't that sort of make them really badass rather than the run-down and altogether shitty tone they have in the books? Granted I'm turning the Martells into a damn drug cartel, but would anybody really be calling in mercenaries? But more importantly, what would they actually do other than just being mercenaries? It's not like they have any wildlings to go murder.

I don't think they'd have to be well liked, as long as both sides are making money. Also, maybe they're just dealing directly to the street dealers?

Hmmm. I'm just curious as to how you'd fit in the feared reputation/Iron Price aspect. "We Do Not Sow"/"We take what is ours" y'know? But the prospect of the Greyjoys working with the Martells intrigues me, to say the least.

Though on a joking note, Oberyn, Victarion, possibly Euron, and not crazy fundamentalist drowned man Aeron would be mates if not for the whole competing criminal organizations thing.

Unless of course the Ironborn are still serial rapists, Oberyn might not be chill with that.

Is it bad I've already started a sheet for the Martells?
Phloem said Exactly why I love him! Things are gonna get a lot worse for Theon, trust me. >:D

Considering just how....I don't know how to word it, quick? The TV series seems to be going through his story arc, I mainly fear all the filler they'll possibly put in there, hell his entire season 3 arc was nothing but filler.

But oh God if Theon is already Ramsay's hostage in this I'll cry since Eddard is supposedly still alive.

Phloem said I could totally see the Sand Snakes as trained and dangerous assassins. Tyene's my favourite, by far.

While I adore the thought of Lady Nym and Tyene running around doing James Bond type things, I doubt I'd go that over the top with their martial abilities, heck I'm not even sure how I'll make them known as the Sand Snakes, since they wouldn't technically be "bastards" in the modern world, if that makes sense. Heck, I might even make Oberyn and Ellaria (who'd be an Uller in name) married, or at least one of those incredibly open and honest couples what with the sexcapades they get into.

Also Antonio Banderas as Doran is happening, no matter what anyone tells me.

I was thinking about the Greyjoys maybe being drug smugglers. You know, because of the Iron Fleet?

Yes but who's drugs are they smuggling? The Greyjoys aren't exactly friendly with any of the major houses in Westeros or anyone in Essos, hell they're kind of hated by everyone.
I may or may not be brewing on the possibility of the Martell Cartel if permitted to do so and the Vegas/Mafia plotline comes to pass. The primary point of view would no doubt be Oberyn. I'm not quite sure how I'll tie in people like the Yronwoods and other Dornish nobles yet, but I've got a basic outline to set up a healthy Martell-Lanister feud assuming the Targaryens were a thing at some point and we crafted the story to sort of mirror the events of Robert's Rebellion and other such things leading up to the first book/the RP.

I should say I've read the novels and would be introducing characters not yet seen by the TV crowd, namely Doran, Arianne, and the Sand Snakes, just a heads up in case anyone wanted to involve the Snakes of Sunspear.
Greetings! I've only just stumbled upon the site while searching around the internet, and I'd be interested in a Game of Thrones setup, particularly the Theon or Robb situations as they're probably the only characters I'd feel comfortable writing as. The only thing of particular importance I can think up off the top of my head (for Theon at least) would be just how long after his arrival at Winterfell it'd take place, or, if the Daenerys plot, whether or not the War of Five Kings had already started up, and just how they'd meet each other.

Forgive me, as I'm not very good at the whole introducing myself on new sites bit. I've been roleplaying for some three-ish years and basic conversation just eludes me. I'm more than capable of multi-paragraph posting and collaborating in terms of plot development and that kind of stuff along with doubling if other characters were needed to move the narrative forward or we just needed a new dynamic. Something tells me I'm not presenting myself very well at present. I'm better at talking about ideas than I am at expressing interest in the ideas, I swear.
