Hello RPers. I'm fairly new to this site and have joined a couple RPs already, but have not started my own yet. I've looked around the interest checks and didn't see anything like this and wonder if anyone would like to join in.

To expand on what the title suggests, the RP will be centered around a massive Oasis Kingdom in the desert. Sultan Alzarai has bloated its upper class by weighing the working class down with heavy taxes, and heavy-handed law enforcement. Magic is outlawed, its use is restricted only to the Sultan's officers. Protestors and revolutionaries were mercilessly beaten into exile, forced to survive the unforgiving conditions of the vast desert. Since the Oasis Kingdom is the only safe haven, the people must accept the way things are.

Well, not everyone.

We'll be playing Robin Hood-esque type players about to be initiated into a newly formed thief guild. Every guild has a different creed and objective, but ours is to help those in desperate need. We operate in the shadows, away from the prying eyes of the Sultan's police. We'll be taking on assignments like helping a merchant get back a precious heirloom taken from a corrupt officer. Or empty the troves of a deceitful nobleman. It is treated as an underground sport, and the guild that presents the most trophies at the end of the year wins great luxuries, including the title of Champion Headmasters. However, not all is fun and games. The strings of a sinister plot will start to unravel, one of ancient lore and myth, that could change everything.
Thank you Dmytra! It's always fun when the lore is open-ended enough to allow players to contribute. I'm really lookin forward to this RP! Might add a bit more info under Gideon and Oathsworn's transformation species.

You have a small error in the last paragraph you said you've been bending for seven years despite being a pro-bender for only six unless you're recently retired that should be fixed. It's a small tid bit but it could confuse some people. Otherwise I'll accept the character.

Several is not seven, and as mentioned in his history, he's been bending long before he came to Wu Xing. Several is meant to say the time spent as a pro-bender before he stopped to pursue Water Rumble Tournaments. He doesn't Pro-bend anymore, just trains, so he's considered retired.
Name: Gideon Tournes

Age: 24

Personality: Gideon is sly-tongued and vigilant in his feverish attempts to better his station in this world. He makes chess-like calculations in nearly everything he does, carefully analyzing every situation with the sharp, social brevity of a soothsayer. Tournes has a treasure trove full of obnoxious witticisms for all types of people; from the uptight conservative highborns of Bryn, to the lowly scallywags of Afon's thieves guild, the young Cavaner prides himself as a venomous social butterfly.

History: He was born on the hot sands of Ofera, abandoned by his mother, who prayed the dunes would claim his life and free him from the hardships of Celyn. But as the young babe would quickly learn early on in life, a cavaner's prayers always fell on deaf ears. By sheer coincidence, a group of marauders were fresh on a hunt, and had scooped up the winged babe into their nets. The pack leader's curiosity had outweighed the growls of his empty stomach. Tournes was taken back to their camp, where he lived out his early years as a pet slave. Scythal is what his masters called him, and he honored their gambled wages in the pit against other beasts. They sought to domesticate their winged prizefighter by beating the human out of him, until all that remained was a monster. What fools. All they managed to do was awaken a tempest, and the storm of fiery vengeance came at the hands of Scythal's father, Atrigon.

Atrigon was a mythical demon, summoned by an overzealous harlot witch, who in a quest for power, made a pact by delivering his seed into the world. To say Atrigon was enraged when he learned of her sudden change of heart is an understatement; to this day, Scythal's mother burns inside a fiery chasm deep inside the earth. She should be thankful she did not suffer the same fate as Scythal's captors. The balance that regulated both Celyn and the ethereal plane, forbade Atrigon from maintaining a physical form, and the vast reserves of power used to free Scythal from harm, came at a great cost. As a last ditch effort before evaporating completely into nonexistence, Atrigon melded a slither of his consciousness into Gideon, serving as a quasi mentor.

Where humans sought to degrade Scythal into a mindless creature, Atrigon's essence was spent guiding his son down a more sinister path, one that skirted between hellfire and deception. Scythal was obedient for a time, acquiesced by the guidance of his father, until he felt his counsel was no longer needed. By the time Scythal warded Atrigon's ghost from his mind and into nothingness, he had become a seasoned merchant in the black market, well-versed, and well-connected under the name of Gideon Tournes. Ascension into power seemed well within his grasp, but ironically, with all of the control he had in life, the one thing that remained a conundrum was his other self. The winged demon had grown just as he did, but in its growth, it had become more unstable, harder to control. Its violent temperament needed to be reigned in. Trained.

Enter Avalon, the Cavaner trainer and advisor to the crown of Gandryll. Gaining control of Scythal was the final piece Gideon needed to set his plans into motion. He immediately reached out to Avalon, posturing as a reformed criminal in need of salvation, keeping his true intentions hidden away.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Due to the continued success of his black market business, Gideon's reputation in the criminal underworld is respected, even in his absence. He is agile, durable, and frighteningly quick in both human and in transformation, though more stronger in the latter form. Unfortunately, even with Avalon's training, Gideon's transformed state can lead to fits of berserker rage; a stark contrast to his otherwise level-headed demeanor.

Was never my intention to piss you off. If it felt like I was attacking you with malice, that was never my intent. Just wanted to make sure you understood where I was coming from is all. This entire discussion was based off the concept of a big group which I pointed out was irrelevant since I opted to go a different route anyways. The topic however trudged on, so I continued for the sake of discussion. However, as a final word on the matter, I wasn't going for a big group with the intention of leveling city blocks - the big group thing only came up because you said I needed to RP multiple NPCs if I wanted to be a Pro-bender. And now that I think about it, it's not like the NPCs would've been vital to the RP as they'd mainly just be Hokkan's teammates for the sport. But again, all of that is completely irrelevant since I said I was going another direction. I was just carrying on with the discussion. Sorry for any miscommunication there.

You may have misread my cs, because I did not mention seven years in my cs. Hope we can put the confusion behind us and continue to have a fun RP here.
Well if they're adept to intermediate, and their masters are elite, then they wouldn't need a 'ridiculous' amount of back up then since none of our characters are high tier. Just because a group is large, doesn't mean all of them are fully capable benders/fighters. In many cases, a big group would make it even more challenging, having to worry about friendly fire and the weakest of the bunch getting used as hostages.

I went ahead and made the small edits.

and going all out it seems awkward to be taking on a quarter of a gang per fight unless we're split up.

That's essentially how Korra's gang and Tenzen's family, along with misc characters did it. But no worries - no need to press the issue further because as mentioned, Hokkan will be going a different route.
vancexentan said It's not that it's what I had planned but it cases the bad guys to have a ridiculous amount of back up.

Wouldn't that technically go against what you originally had planned then? For the bad guys to not have a ridiculous amount of back up to accommodate a large group?

In any case, I think I'll have Hokkan be a former Pro-bender/retiree, and go the route you mentioned about Toph's wrestling thing.
Apologies. Integral was a poorly chosen word, I meant to say a unique aspect of the series. I've RPed multiple NPCs before, that's not a problem, but I'm not looking to oversaturate the RP. The last thing I want to do is go against whatever you have planned. I'd like my character to have something to do with pro-bending though...would it be okay if he was retired former champ and now a trainer?
This is looking good! I'll get started on working on my character soon.
