About Me
I am a second year undergraduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology which, as the name would suggest, is in Rochester, New York. I am studying Software Engineering – essentially, programming plus all of the processes, paperwork, etc. that I'll be doing in the real world. I have been programming in some capacity since I was eight, and once I discovered programming I simply never stopped writing code. Some of that code I've written was for this very website, and hopefully there will be a fair bit more of that in the near future.
I discovered programming in a game called ROBLOX, and coincidentally that is also where I first discovered roleplaying. One day I was exploring the forums, and noticed a roleplaying section. Curious, I took a look and I was instantly hooked. The content was mostly in the Free RP level, with a small amount of Casual tier games, but at the time even that was high quality content to me. Over the years my interest in the game faded, and although I continued programming after ultimately leaving the community, I did not continue roleplaying.
Years later, I gradually started wanting to get back into roleplaying. I began googling around, and after looking at a few different websites I finally decided that the Guild seemed to be the best of them all. I made an account on December 13, 2014, and started jumping into some games; I quickly decided on sticking to mostly High Casual, but eventually moved more towards Advanced as I realized that most of the games I was in were easily at that level anyway. This was right around the time that Mahz was working on rebuilding the website from the ground up, and after chatting with him for a while in the IRC during some site downtime I decided that I wanted to help.
I ultimately didn't contribute too much, but nevertheless I was the first (and so far, only) non-anonymous user to help Mahz with developing the website. As a reward, after he implemented the trophy system I was awarded the special Benevolent Cyberpunk trophy, which gives me a special userbit that looks like this:
After roughly a year and a half of being here, life started getting in the way more and more, and my activity became increasingly infrequent. Eventually, a little after the two year mark, I became completely inactive; I was in my senior year of high school, neck deep in college plans, and didn't have time for it anymore. I'd log in every now and then to check if I had missed anything, but until quite recently never stayed. I am back now, though, and hopefully I'm here to stay. I plan on getting back into roleplaying in the near future, and I also plan on starting to help out with the website once more. I've learned so much since when I first saw the code running the Guild, and hopefully I'll be significantly more helpful than I was back then!
Luther learns about an upcoming raid on a Muggleborn's house and he goes there before it happens and warns them, In exchange he asks them to call/text Jia and pass on a message informing the Ashes about an owl he will send at dusk that day.
At the meeting that night, Jia mentions this to the group and immediately after the owl appears. Whatever actually happens is up to McHaggis I guess, but they end up deciding to meet Luther as detailed in the letter the owl brings.
They go the next day to the arranged meeting location expecting it to be a trap and are ready to fight, and are surprised when Luther is there alone, disarmed. Since he is alone and unarmed they decide to hear him out, and he explains that he wants to become a spy for them. They don't trust him.
He then tells them about an upcoming raid/attack/etc (not decided yet) which holds true, and he is trusted (at least by the leaders, if not necessarily everyone) enough to be allowed to join the Ashes
Action unfolds from there
I think I've covered everything; if anyone has something to add that I forgot, then feel free.
Tbh I don't really think rules are necessary. All the obvious rules are implied + briefly mentioned, and anyone who might break them probably isn't on a roleplaying forum to begin with :P
I can most likely think of a random name of a Muggleborn (or maybe something more substantial like a terrorist attack similar to the Millennium/Brockdale Bridge, if you'd rather that) to offer to the Ashes, sure!
Works for me! I think it would be best to have a post about Luther's set-up to the meeting before the actual meeting though, or immediately before the meeting in one big post. Either way we can collab on it to make it work if you'd like.
Well I wouldn't really expect there to be a lot of trust in Luther, for all they know he could just as easily be a loyal Death Eater that is under orders to infiltrate the Ashes and provide information to eliminate them - the Dark Lord did it with the Order (except he didn't know that Snape was really spying on the Death Eaters for the Order, not the other way around) so there's no reason he wouldn't do it with the Ashes. Because of that, I (or Luther, rather) wouldn't expect to be trusted, especially at the beginning. He'd be concerned if they weren't skeptical, honestly.
Regardless, I've thought of an idea to make your idea work, and could probably combine both that and the letter idea to make a solid solution. Basically Luther learns that there will be a raid on a Muggleborn's house, and he decides to go there beforehand to warn them so they can leave before the raid even happens. There's no evidence that points to Luther (unless they find out about his prior visit, but obviously he would hide this from them so they don't know), and in exchange they agree to pass a message on to Jia. That message being something along the lines of:
I have important information that the Ashes will want to hear. I will send an owl at dusk with more information. -L
This way, even if the Muggleborn was to rat on Luther in hopes that the Death Eaters may grant them pardon in return, they wouldn't have any conclusive evidence to give them, and Luther could play it off as a plot to trick the Ashes into a trap so the Death Eaters could capture them. This would only help to consolidate Luther's loyalty in their eyes, and he could simply hide behind a bush or something and attack them when the inevitable skirmish breaks out, which would also give the Ashes a better reason to trust him as well.
But for simplicity's sake, I'd probably just keep it to the Muggleborn heeding his warning and passing the message on, because the other possibility just makes things overly complicated (although the logic behind it would still apply to why the message is sent in two parts).
Hmm, I guess. Since you've already mentioned bending the rules, we might as well just let owls pass through. I'm not sure that they aren't able to in canon to begin with.
Well how would I get the letter in? Charm it to fly over the ward and hope it goes through? If something that simple will work it'd probably be better to do that.
Sure, that could work. Any idea what would be a suitable channel to contact you by? I don't think a patronus could bypass the wards, not could any other conventional method. Write an encrypted message in the sky maybe, Similar to Morsmordre? Too difficult for the stupid death eaters to understand, but not too hard for the Ashes to decipher with a little thought?

If I can be a bit of a pedant, only the secret-keeper of the Fidelius Charm can pass on the secret, it doesn't work if other people do it. That's why they had to give Harry a note personally written by Dumbledore so he could find Grimmauld Place.
Oops. I knew that to be passed on verbally or written, but thought that it could be visually passed on by anyone who knew the secret - I had overlooked the fact that Harry, Ron, and Hermione had become Secret Keepers to Grimmauld Place when Dumbledore died, making it possible to do so.
@Doused, at this point if we go the careless inductee route, the inductee (Tanya) would have to be exceptionally careless, because the only option I can think of is something along the lines of: Luther run up to her when he sees her appear, drops his wand/hand to her to show that he won't attack her (although since Luther excels at Muggle combat, he could just as easily attack her without a wand, not that he would in this case :P), and persuades her to talk to him. The Ashes, looking around for where that pesky Tanya has gone to, see this and run to us, assuming that I'm either attacking her or something, or she is passing on information, either event of course being very bad for them. When they arrive they decide to listen since I'm already disarmed, etc etc.
Of course, if we don't go the careless inductee route, I could just stand at the edge of the Charm with my hands up, and wait/hope for someone to come do something about it. But where's the fun in that? (Assuming they don't just let him sit there, until he is forced to leave either 1. to eat/etc or 2. so the other Death Eaters don't get suspicious of his absence)
