About Me
I am a second year undergraduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology which, as the name would suggest, is in Rochester, New York. I am studying Software Engineering – essentially, programming plus all of the processes, paperwork, etc. that I'll be doing in the real world. I have been programming in some capacity since I was eight, and once I discovered programming I simply never stopped writing code. Some of that code I've written was for this very website, and hopefully there will be a fair bit more of that in the near future.
I discovered programming in a game called ROBLOX, and coincidentally that is also where I first discovered roleplaying. One day I was exploring the forums, and noticed a roleplaying section. Curious, I took a look and I was instantly hooked. The content was mostly in the Free RP level, with a small amount of Casual tier games, but at the time even that was high quality content to me. Over the years my interest in the game faded, and although I continued programming after ultimately leaving the community, I did not continue roleplaying.
Years later, I gradually started wanting to get back into roleplaying. I began googling around, and after looking at a few different websites I finally decided that the Guild seemed to be the best of them all. I made an account on December 13, 2014, and started jumping into some games; I quickly decided on sticking to mostly High Casual, but eventually moved more towards Advanced as I realized that most of the games I was in were easily at that level anyway. This was right around the time that Mahz was working on rebuilding the website from the ground up, and after chatting with him for a while in the IRC during some site downtime I decided that I wanted to help.
I ultimately didn't contribute too much, but nevertheless I was the first (and so far, only) non-anonymous user to help Mahz with developing the website. As a reward, after he implemented the trophy system I was awarded the special Benevolent Cyberpunk trophy, which gives me a special userbit that looks like this:
After roughly a year and a half of being here, life started getting in the way more and more, and my activity became increasingly infrequent. Eventually, a little after the two year mark, I became completely inactive; I was in my senior year of high school, neck deep in college plans, and didn't have time for it anymore. I'd log in every now and then to check if I had missed anything, but until quite recently never stayed. I am back now, though, and hopefully I'm here to stay. I plan on getting back into roleplaying in the near future, and I also plan on starting to help out with the website once more. I've learned so much since when I first saw the code running the Guild, and hopefully I'll be significantly more helpful than I was back then!
When Tom arrived at JFK airport, it was already well past sunset. Despite being a major airport, at this late hour there weren't very many people. He grinned to himself as he skipped the (albeit short) line and went straight to the plane, watching their envious gaze. I could get used to this, Tom thought.
When he got his first glimpse of the plane, he had to admit that he was impressed, although he noted that there was no writing on the side to indicate who the plane belonged to. As he embarked, he glanced up to see a person watching him for the slightest of moments, before retreating into another compartment. Tom didn't get a good view of him, but he was definitely wearing a grey suit. Confused, he turned to the stewardess.
"Excuse me, but I thought this was a private flight?"
"Yes, sir. Only you and Mr.– another gentleman are on this flight," the stewardess responded, blushing furiously as she corrected herself. Tom shrugged. Although curious as to who was flying with him, he could tell that he wouldn't get any further explanations from her.
She showed him to his seat, and regaining her professionalism, gestured towards the staff area. "We have a wide variety of meals available, as well as beverages – coffee, fountain drinks, or if you are so inclined, we have plenty of alcoholic beverages as well. Would you like anything?"
No way will I get wasted tonight. Drinking away one’s sorrows is for the weak! Tom thought to himself.
Tom woke up several hours later at approximately 4:00 local time, with a killer headache and subtle stains on the carpeted floor that left no question about his actions last night. He groaned pathetically.
He went to the bathroom and did his best to make himself look somewhat presentable, noticing that the door to the other compartment was left open. The other passenger must have left a while ago, probably immediately after landing. Whatever – he probably wouldn’t see the man ever again, so the mystery will have to remain unsolved.
As Tom stepped off the plane, he was glad that he hadn’t made a mess of his clothes. Entering the waiting room, he saw that there were already two people sitting. One woman, and one man with quite the beard. Before long he turned his attention to the refreshments table – he had been told that he could help himself, and he certainly intended to. He considered pouring another glass of wine, but decided against it, opting for some coffee instead. Picking a seat at random, he sat down, twiddling a spoon around in his coffee. This is going to be a long day, Tom thought wearily.
My character doesn't have any significant accent (although I'm definitely biased, since my character is from where I live IRL), but he will probably appear troubled, despite his best attempts to hide it.
I've still not gotten around to finishing my sheet, but I will soon, and we'll start once that is up. Hopefully we can get a few more people to join before then, but if not then we'll just play with 4 settlements for now
Besides, the zombies don't care if there are 4 or 400 enemies, food is food
1. Pretty much what McHaggis said. There'll be an initial repair time, then probably a small upkeep time, one day at the most. A vehicle that sees a lot of use would need more upkeep than a vehicle that rarely gets action, obviously.
2. The key can be expanded as large as it needs to be (but more likely I'll just make the content smaller, so we don't have a giant key covering the entire map), so that's fine. Speaking of which, both you and @UltikanaRe are accepted. What color do you want on the map, red?
3. No comment - McHaggis is handling the lore, for the most part :P
