Shoshiku (初試究 – “First Trial”) | Mable Smith
![]() ____________________________________________________ C H A R A C T E R I N F O R M A T I O N Name: Was officialy designated Shoshiku or First Trial during creation; Host's name is Mable Smith, though Shoshiku is unaware of this fact. Nicknames/Aliases: First Birth City/District: Neo-Tokyo, Heita District (Shoshiku) | Old Kinshasa (Mable) Age: 19 (Mable) | 18 Months (Shoshiku) Height: 151cm (Mable) | 14cm (Shoshiku) Racial Background: Chinese-Australian, born and raised in Old Kinshasa (Mable) Race: Zero-Percenter (Mable) | Tsukimono Program Prototype – Artificial Intelligence/Cerebrospinal-Implant (Shoshiku) Hair Colour: Teal; Mable's hair colour is the result of a cosmetic gene therapy she received shortly before moving to Neo-Tokyo, at the time of Shoshiku's implantation her hair was still largely brown. Eye Colour: Grey; Mable's cyber-eyes have inbuilt cosmetics and HUD functions, however, Shoshiku has turned both features off giving their eyes a lifeless grey appearance. Appearance: A body hanging limp and off-kilter, the muscles within exerting only what effort is needed to stay upright and move about. Seemingly dead eyes that seem to alternate between staring dead ahead at nothing and ceaselessly darting around to observe everything without pause. A face and voice seemingly devoid of any human emotion. Of any single word, creepy would probably be the one to describe Shoshiku's whole vibe, though uncanny and disturbing might be close contenders. While almost every aspect of Mable's physical appearance is relatively normal at a glance, something about the way Shoshiku carries her body, makes the whole thing seem fundamentally wrong to most observers – like watching an insect crammed into a human cadaver. Personality: Those who interact with Shoshiku are often struck by the impression that there is something deeply wrong about them, like watching a depiction of a human by an artist who didn't quite understand what a human was. Of course, most people don't realise just how close to the truth that impression is, usually dismissing Shoshiku as just another druggo or mad woman. While originally made with the intent of being able to imitate a human, Shoshiku's thought processes and mentality fundamentally differ from a normal person's in several ways and lacking the education or context to understand such things, Shoshiku struggles greatly to understand other people. While by no means emotionless Shoshiku often comes across as such through their inflection – or lack thereof. Lacking the capacity to organically display their emotions as a normal human would, Shoshiku has concluded that to fake their emotions would be tantamount to lying – something that they've determined is probably bad by reason of complex social dynamics they are yet to grasp – and as such refuses to do so. Aspirations:
Fears: Shoshiku doesn't really feel fear in the way a normal person might; the concepts of pain or dying don’t phase the AI, nor do they understand why such things are usually considered scary in the first place. Instead, what truly frightens Shoshiku is the idea that they might do something 'bad' unintentionally or else might otherwise be unable to become a 'good person' whether for some action they might unknowingly take or have already taken, or because of some immutable inability innate to their nature. Vehicle: Not even two years old and having mostly wondered around on foot during that time, Shoshiku has never had a reason to drive or even own a vehicle. That said, the AI has still ridden in a number of vehicles in this time – if only rarely – and with their prodigious capacity to learn could probably drive most conventional vehicles – though doing so safely or following traffic laws would be another matter entirely. P O W E R / C Y B E R N E T I C S I N F O R M A T I O N Strengths/Natural Abilities: As an AI Shoshiku possesses a number of abilities that a normal human would not, mostly based on their 'neurological' abilities and the nature of the connection between their mind and Mable’s body.

| H i s t o r y Even to this day, Shoshiku does not know a whole lot about their nature or origins. From their perspective they simply awoke one day, lying on the floor of an obviously abandoned lab without any memories to go by. In the early days of Shoshiku's existence, they did not have much in the way of goals or a direction, instead aimlessly wandering around in search of some nebulous purpose they were sure they were supposed to have. This aimlessness first started to change when they encountered a travelling doctor. When he first encountered Shoshiku, the doctor – whose name Shoshiku never thought to ask in all the time they travelled together – found the AI's host half dead from dehydration and took it upon himself to help Shoshiku for no other reason than the kindness of his heart. Quickly recognising that Shoshiku was literally incapable of surviving on their own at the time, the doctor decided to bring Shoshiku with him on his travels, gradually teaching them how to function as a human being. If the doctor recognised that there was something wrong with Shoshiku or had suspicions as to what it was, he never mentioned them, simply offering his help without prying. During this time Shoshiku, still lacking a purpose of their own, would repeatedly question the doctor about the purpose of his actions and in turn, would repeatedly be told that his actions had no deeper purpose beyond trying to be a good person and doing the right thing. When asked what this meant, the doctor would either laugh or give an explanation that didn't make sense to Shoshiku. Three months after meeting Shoshiku, the doctor would end up caught in the middle of a gang fight, trying to treat a civilian who'd had the misfortune to be caught in the crossfire. Unfortunately, the doctor was not rewarded for their good deeds and was mistaken for a member of one of the gangs, being fatally shot as a result. Shoshiku – by then largely capable of looking after themselves on their own – would not realise to mourn the loss of their mentor until months after the fact, but would end up deciding to adopt the travelling doctor's purpose as their own. Following this decision, Shoshiku would begin studying medicine in earnest, and once they'd gotten the hang of that, wondering around offering their aid to anyone that would accept it, just as the doctor once did – though for reasons eluding Shoshiku to significantly less effect. It was while studying medicine that Shoshiku would end up starting to unravel part of the nature of their existence; that they were not in fact a zero-percenter, but an AI puppeteering one through a strange implant. It took Shoshiku a while, but eventually, they concluded that this was a really bad thing to be, and like that Shoshiku's second goal was born: to find a way to remove themselves from their host without killing them. Shoshiku had not yet managed to figure out either of their goals by the time they were approached by Michiko Orinatsu, investigating Shoshiku after having somehow managed to connect the AI to the Tormented. Shoshiku would – after being confirmed not to be a member of the Tormented, or to even possess notable knowledge of the gang – be convinced to join the Kurotori two months prior to the stories start under the pretext of doing good. Mable Smith was born to a well-off family in Old Kinshasa. Despite being relatively well provided for as she grew up, Mable did not get on well with her family, constantly butting heads with them on their personal views and expectations of her – a friction that only grew as she got older. This animosity came to a head shortly after Mable's 18th birthday, after Mable decided to change her hair colour on a whim, an act that would result in a fight somehow culminating in Mable getting shipped to Kita-Ebisu, Neo-Tokyo. Contrary to her parent's expectations, Mable did not end up begging to come home, and in fact thrived in her new environment – for the first few months at least – finding a job, making new friends, and even managing to pick up some hobbies without her parents breathing down her neck. Mable was more or less the most hopeful she'd ever been during this period, but Neo-Tokyo has a way of crushing one's hopes and dreams. Not four months after Mable's arrival in Kita-Ebisu, just as she was beginning to feel at home, she was snatched off the streets by the Forgotten. Mable would spend just under a month being traded around by the Forgotten before finally being sold to the Tormented whereupon she would have the Tsukimono Implant installed into her and rendering her a silent passenger within her own body. For better or worse, Mable does not remember a whole lot of the time surrounding Shoshiku's implantation and escape, due both to being drugged out of her mind as she was experimented on and later as a result of sleep deprivation during the six months it took Shoshiku to realise human brains require rest. |
