OOC is up!

With just one day left until the CS window ends, I figured I'd provide a few questions for people to answer to help get into their heads. These are optional, but fun!

1. What song would play the first time your character jumped into action in a hypothetical movie?

2. What would be your character's ideal first date?

3. What's a place your character always wanted to travel to?

4. If your character had a recurring nightmare, what would it be?
All Together Now

"There was an idea..." - Nick Fury, The Avengers

Something is happening. The world is changing - everybody knows it on some level, though most don't know just how weird things have gotten lately. Maybe you've seen the footage of the girl with the dragon wings carrying people out of a burning building, or watched that government press conference where the suits swore up and down that all claims of monsters on the city streets of Washington D.C. were nonsense. Maybe something else happened. The point is, the rules of nature aren't playing like they used to, and nobody knows whether that's going to be a good thing, or a very, very bad one.

The story starts, where else, in New York City, on a day ostensibly like any other. Though none of the citizens going about their daily lives may suspect it, the city is about to play host to events that will shake the foundation of the Earth - and from the ashes of the old order, heroes will arise.

If you've made it this far, hopefully I've piqued your curiosity. I am looking for up to five players to join me in a Superhero RP concerning a world very like ours in the midst of becoming very unlike ours, as technological and supernatural forces have begun popping up out of nowhere and leveling city blocks. Players will create and play as individuals, empowered by science, magic, technology, biology, or anything else they can think of, who have recently arrived on the stage of superheroism and must band together to face off against a world-threatening evil. In terms of plot and tone, think very similarly to the MCU's first Avengers movie; a small group of heroes who have already had their origin stories and faced off against a personal villain or two banding together to form the first superhero team, changing the world they live in forever in so doing. I'd like the story to last longer than the first big final showdown of the first arc and branch off into other stories as well, in addition to delving into the personal lives of the heroes and focusing heavily on them as characters and how they get along with one another.

In terms of character creation, just about anything goes. Be a space alien, be a genius billionaire, be a wizard or a mutant or an experiment gone horribly wrong. Or one gone perfectly right! The choice is yours. Writing style is advanced and grammar is a necessity - if you're worried you might not be able to hack it but you like the idea and the story, send me a message, I'm always happy to offer advice or constructive criticism. Finally, I'd like for all the players and the characters to be deeply involved in the construction of the story and the world, so if you have any ideas, feel free to share them.

Rules

1. All standard guild rules, as I'm sure you probably guessed, apply. Romance is fine (as indicated by the fact that this RP has the 'romance' tag - what can I say, I'm a softie) but when it gets heated, take it to pms or fade to black.

2. Worldbuilding is always welcome, but make sure you communicate! If another player has an established archnemesis, don't include them in the vast conspiracy surrounding your character's mysterious origins without asking them first if it's okay.

3. No godmoding, as per usual.

4. This is a story about interpersonal relations, which means that this will also be a story about conflict. Just remember to keep IC conflict in IC - we're all on the same team here, trying to tell the best story we can.

5. Writing style is advanced, with fairly strict grammar requirements. Posts are expected once per week - a gap longer than that is alright, as long as I'm notified ahead of time, but if you're going to be gone a long time be prepared for me to temporarily take over your character for the purpose of moving things along.

6. Be cool! We're all here to have fun and tell a fun story. If you have any questions, please direct them to me - I'm real friendly!

Character Creation

There are five slots open. Submissions will close at midnight, July 9th, at which point I will announce the accepted characters and the RP will begin. The Characters tab is reserved for accepted characters only.

"To bring together a group of remarkable people."
@DJAtomika

Yeah, that helps, though I noticed on second viewing that the personality section seems to end mid-sentence. Happens to the best of us, but you may wish to fix that. :P

@Fruitymentos

Absolutely, there's still two days until any characters are accepted, so we're still open for submissions until then!
@The Bork Lazer

1. Correct.

2. Correct again, largely - it's totally fine if you want to control characters other than your own, if you, for example, want to have a conversation with a civilian on the street, and each character will probably have a supporting cast that's basically 'theirs' - friends, family, personal villains, etc, such as Dragoness's roommate, her parents, Nelkarian, and so on. But yes, for the most part, I will be controlling other characters to ensure that the plot is moving and conflict occurs.
@The Bork Lazer

Yeah, that's fine - hell, it's awesome. The world is big, it has room for lots of things in it. It's cool to have lots of elements and forces at play, and I think it could provide options for a lot of cool stories down the line.
@DJAtomika

I'll say that for the first arc, only one can be submitted, mainly because I want to keep the principal cast small so that everyone can meet everyone and have time to develop relationships. Later on, it's possible that the other could be introduced and gotten into the mix - the first arc will take place over a somewhat short period of time, so it'd be quite possible to explain the absence of one or another with them being out of town, if you wanted to.

@MegaOscarPwn

Yeah, looking at it again the chart is a bit easier to parse, but I'd still like a bit more elaboration on what the first power does. As written, it seems like it can turn things into plant matter, which it can then reshape as it desires? So, could it, for example, touch a building and begin transforming it into a viney material which would be easier to cut a hole through, or could it just force it open? Just trying to make sure I understand, is all.

EDIT: Oh, wow, that was fast, I didn't see the changes you made when I posted this. Yeah, that helps a lot, I think I pretty much get it now. Thanks!
Great work so far, guys! Progress on the OOC is coming along, should be done in the next day or so. In addition, though I won't be accepting any characters until the deadline is over, I'm going to try to provide some feedback for the people who've posted CS's already - we'll call that a bonus for promptness. If I provide a note, it doesn't mean that I don't like the character or that you have no chance of being accepted as is, I'm just trying to help you make your character the very best it could be.

@MegaOscarPwn

What a fun character! I really like the energy and the sense of fun and adventure that bleeds through in the writing style. My main note is that I'm not super clear about the stand's powers - maybe it's because I don't know anything about Jojo, but the rating system ended up being kind of confusing in practice and I'm not entirely sure what the 'vegetal material' power actually does, so you could stand to make that clearer and just describe what the stand itself is capable of rather than using the rating system.

@DJAtomika

Another great character! I was hoping we'd have a submission like this, kind of a grittier, more low-to-the-ground vigilante type of hero. I only have one point of concern, which is the implication that his sister is just as powerful as he is and lives with him - this doesn't really need to be changed if it's an important part of the character, but it could stand to be elaborated on if it's the case.

@alexfangtalon

Really cool concept for a character, I like the idea of him as this ringleader of heroic metas as well as the really personal civil war story between all the empowered individuals born of this single event. I have two notes, the first of which is that you could beef up his power level if you wanted (not necessary, but you can), the second is that you could tweak some of the writing to make it read a bit smoother - there's some repetition, some unnecessary adverb usage, some 'to' and 'too' confusion, stuff like that. If you want to shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to go over some of this stuff in greater detail, or not - you can let me know.

@The Bork Lazer

Awesome, awesome character. I don't really have any notes.

@Jaredthefox92

So, aside from the fact that this is a superhero RP and your character seems to be a villain, this doesn't really fit the idea of backstory as an 'origin story' because there doesn't seem to be much in the way of plot in her backstory. I'd definitely retool that, work her into a more heroic character, and maybe downplay the extent to which she's a ditzy cheerleader stereotype? That last one is optional, but I think it might help her develop into a more human, realistic character.

@Clever Hans

Lupo's great! Like with The Tower above, I was hoping we'd get this kind of grittier character more rooted in intrigue than high-flying adventure. I don't have any real notes per se, though I think you could benefit from expanding on his appearance section into exactly how he looks 'wolfish' - we get a better look at that in his backstory, but for simplicity's sake it's nice to have that in the appearance section when other people are writing a post and checking how your character looks.

Really great work all around, guys. I'm already dreading having to choose!
All slots are still open, and will remain so until July 9th, when five characters are accepted!
If it's set in the year 2020 and you're character was born in 2004, shouldn't she be 16?

... Yes! I meant to fix that. This character is a holdover from a game set in 2024 that never got off the ground. Good catch!
Alright! CS template is complete, have at it! Below is the character I'll be playing, so you can use her as an example of what I'm looking for.

It's funny, but I've got a girl with dragon wings, if you want her.

Small world! Yeah, that was actually a reference to my character, as you've probably guessed, but hey. The more the merrier.

Definitely has my interest.

Will you be using a system, or is this freeform?

Primarily freeform. When things get particularly chaotic there will be some organization, but not much - say there's a big team battle with a whole army of guys, I'll probably split them into groups and people can claim different ones to take out in OOC. Stuff like that, but mostly freeform.
