◾ Biography:
Ithobal is the second son. The worst possible position to be born in for a royal. This also caused him to feel like he was not truly part of his family, since he was always seen as the second. He can be seen as a threat to his brother, but he honestly only sees himself as lower than his brother. He wanted to get out of his home in order to experience the real world, escape the shadow of his brother, and to not be murdered. Any of those reason on their own would be good enough, but with the three combined it only accelerated his exit.
While he was traveling he learned how to properly trade. He already knew how to sail, since he was raised to be good at sailing. He also learned how to handle himself with a trident, since from time to time his ship would run into pirates. His natural strength helped him in battle and it was also helpful when he needed to intimidate a merchant or two in order to get the best deal. His trade network has grown due to his meticulous planning and aggressive take overs of rivals.
His crown jewel of a ship is called "Leviathan." It was a gift from his father to him before he headed out into the world, and it was one of the greatest ships that Ithobal had ever seen. He used the large hull to carry large amounts of goods around the country. His family found it strange how willing Ithobal was [willing to deal with outsiders. Since, he felt that he never fit in with his family, it only made sense to move out into the world to find his place.
His merchant fleet has now expanded to about 20 ships and it allows him to always have trade going on even when the Leviathan wasn't actively participating in the trade. These ships are made to repel a single pirate attack at best. They are not true military threats, at least for now. They could hypothetically be outfitted for naval combat, but it would take a lot of time and resources. His trade connections help him to learn news of what is going around the kingdom.
He has been able to gain the admiration of his sailors, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Due to his ability both in battle and making his sailors rich, they feel that Ithobal is the right leader to keep them in their position of wealth and authority. Even when some aspects of their sailing falters, they do not doubt their leader. Ithobal may doubt himself though. That is much more likely, though he wouldn't allow any of this sailors see that. He dwells on any small mistake that he makes, even if he doesn't show it.
He arrived at the Quell Sea to convince his family let him win the hand of the Princess, in order to be a functional part of his family. There is also the fact that he learned that his brother abdicated, which left Ithobal next in line for the throone. He believes that if he guarantees the Princesses's hand, his family would accept him. The crazy part is that they already accept them, he just needs to learn to accept himself. If he is able to do that, he might realize that he is already in his dream position, and he would finally find meaning in his life.
