When his parents boast about Edwin, they go on about what a great young man he is, loyal and quick as a whip. They discuss how he'd never betray anyone, his family or his friends, and how he's someone who's bound by his word, a truly admirable thing in their eyes. And his brains, oh well his brains are the pride and joy of his family. He's got quite the intellect, and when paired with his silver tongue, he's quite the diplomat. He truly is a native to the mountains, an aspiring philosopher who's known for holding intelligent conversations with some of the greatest minds in Lhivoria.

But in hushed tones, people murmur about how the young Hyland heir has a dark side. How his desire for power leads him to disregard other people's feelings. They whisper about how his charisma makes him quite the manipulator, and while he may be bound by his word, he's not one to give it out easily. His intelligence and upbringing as a noble has made him slightly arrogant, though some may find this more endearing than annoying.

Edwin Hyland was born in the middle of winter, when the moon was at it's peak. In the morning, his birth was heralded around Mount Promonon and he was celebrated before he knew how important he was. As a young child, he was paraded around court, meeting noble lords and ladies, and learning the intricate workings of politics. Quite a lot for a boy to take in, but such are the responsibilities of an heir.

As he grew older, he grew into quite the picture perfect heir. Handsome, intelligent, charismatic, and a skilled swordsman, his parents couldn't have been prouder of him. But Edwin did not have his sights set on ruling over only Hyland lands. As he grew into his teens and became an adult, he began to question what gave the Ainsworths their right to rule? Why had the gods chosen them? Why shouldn't the Hylands sit on the throne? Of course, he kept such thoughts to himself, but has long been considering ways to rise to power, and gain the recognition for the Hylands that he thinks they deserve.

What the small folk know of Amelia is what she wants them to know. How kind she is, a true champion of the downtrodden or oppressed. It's far from her nature to hurt someone she believes to be innocent, or to refrain from helping someone in need. And her wit is without measure, so sharp is her tongue and quick is her mind, that she holds an honorary place as an advisor in her father's small council, much to the disdain of some of her father's less open minded banner men.

But the side Amelia keeps from others is dark and full of terrors. She may look out for others, but her number on priority is herself, and her happiness, no one elses. And to her, promises are wasted time. She has a habit of making them and breaking them as they please her, although she makes sure that when she breaks a promise, no one will be able to accuse her of it. She's a ruthless woman in truth, doing anything and everything to get to the top.

Tybalt Gully - Cousin

As a woman in a world run by men, Amelia was fighting from the moment she saw the light of day. Clawing for her own recognition. She was always a smart girl, and knew how to get her way. She'd sit nicely and politely, taking her lessons that father insisted on, and then she'd bat her eyes and wobble her bottom lip, and bring everything crashing down. Some might say that this early behavior has led to where she is now.

As she grew into a young woman, one that many girls envied and many men desired, she finally gained the recognition she believed she deserved. Her wise words and quick wit led her father to appoint her as an advisor in his council, an action that was met with forced smiles and insincere congratulations from the other council members. Never the less, she used this in to begin gaining recognition for the Gully's, helping to increase their power.

Two years since that day, and she's turned the Gully's into quite the significant power, or rather she's helped her father do so. Their navy is considerably stronger than it had been before, and the war on piracy is one that is being won, thanks to her advice. Many whisper that she is some sort of witch, for she seems to know every move her enemies will make. In truth, she just makes use of many informants, using secrets to her advantage. If she's lucky, she'll be able to use secrets to take the throne, and crown herself a queen.

Amara is nothing if not a mother. She is a woman who is devoted solely to her children, and she puts them first in every possible way. Her family is her everything, and not one person doubts that she would die for each and every member. Aside from her devotion, she is a determined and intelligent woman, someone who won't stop until her wishes are fulfilled. She's willing to use any means necessary to attain her goals, and has done so before.

Amara is not this perfect woman though. She has a cold, unfeeling demeanor about her, a result of countless traumas. While her family catches more glimpses of her warmth than anyone else, she is known throughout the land as being a woman who can strike fear into any man's heart, with just one look. This might be less frightening, if she was much more sane than she is. Her mind has been affected by many psychological traumas, and sometimes she acts impulsively because of it.

Amara was born into a family of lesser nobles, from the Quell Sea. The Moors, were a family that had built their fortune on trade and had become banner men to the Gullys around a century prior to Amara's birth. As a young girl, Amara was known for her carefree, and joyful nature, and she'd often be seen running across her family's land, laughing and shrieking with delight. That all changed when she was barely a woman.

When Amara was sixteen, the Moors had a run in with the Ainsworths, a minor one but one that hurt the family's pride none the less. The two families had always had poor relations. The Moors sought be viewed as a more noble house, but the Ainsworths saw them as nothing more than merchants. Finally, this conflict escalated after a Moor ship sunk of the coast of the Quell Sea. Seeking vengeance, Walder Moor blamed the Ainsworths and led one of the most ill fated rebellions in the history of Lhivoria.

For six months, the Moors and other minor houses fought against the royal family, until finally they were defeated. The Moors were all taken to the capital where the king promised Walder that he would be noble in hell. Amara was forced to watch as the king executed her father and her three brothers on the steps of the palace. That was the end of Amara's joyful days.

Amara was spared the brutality of an execution, and was instead gifted to the young Lord Gully, due to being quite the beauty when she was younger. Her troubles did not end here. Her marriage was rife with failed pregnancies and stillbirths, none of which helped her fragile mental state. She was lucky to give birth to her three children, as people say any more tragedy and she may have gone completely mad. She'd never stopped seeking revenge though, and she intends to burn every last Ainsworth to dust, even if it means dying herself.

Tiras is passionate about black smithing and an honest man. However, his short temper gives him the reputation of one not to short hand. He is not one to speak loudly unless enraged or, if one were to get close enough, emotional. He is rather average in smartness, but quick enough to survive. He is kind to those that earn his friendship and respect, which is not many. He is often silent, speaking only occasionally...the feeling of being an outsider shaped that quirk.

Tiras is the royal blacksmith. He does work for lords and ladies along with his own family. If one can get enough money, then he will create a piece for those not of royal blood.

Tiras' beginning is not fully known. He was brought home with his sister by his father from travels and does not know whom his mother is. It is rumored that his mother is a lady of the desert.
He was raised alongside his family, treated not quite like a royal, but not quite like a regular towns person especially since he was living with the royals. He did not have to learn the same exact things the rest of his family did, but sought out books of history, archery, falconry, and black smithing. He particularly found a knack for training animals and black smithing. His unusual ease around animals was perceived as odd, but Tiras and others did not think much of it.
When Tiras was 10 years of age, he found a reddish fox kit. It seemed that it was either abandoned or the mother had died. Tiras took the kit in and raised it with the help of his sister. He felt an odd bond form with it and discovered a few months later that he was having dreams typical of a warg. Not long after that, he figured out that he could enter his fox's mind and control him. He kept his abilities secret, but is never seen apart from the fox. His sister had found out about the ability when they were young, but she has kept the secret.
Many assume the fox is always there due to Tiras not having many friends, so he has the fox and that works just fine for him.
He was trained to blacksmith by the previous Royal blacksmith and since their death has taken over that role.

Juliana is a true lady of a noble family, and takes comfort in that knowledge. Trained since she could scarcely walk to present herself as such, she uses her charm and wit to play the part expected of her. She has an easy manner about her with large crowds and in difficult situations, but is often forced to bit her tongue to avoid be labeled as an outspoken and intolerable young woman. Although she is more than able to present herself with grace, her wit and temper often sneak out, and her willfulness often caused her trouble when she was a child. Juliana was labeled as high spirited by her parents and nurses, and that trait was never truly stamped out of her.

Like many of the Hyland children, she is intelligent and tends to be manipulative of people outside of her family. As the second daughter, Juliana was given more freedoms to do as she pleased without the pressures of being an heir or first child thrown into marriage. At a young age she became obsessed with the horror stories of the forest and old ‘monsters’ stories the children heard. The obsession has grown and mixed with her own morbid fascination with power and ambition. This, along with her wild temper, escape at times during times of trouble. Luckily, her darkness has been seen by very few.

Second daughter of the Lord and Lady of Hyland. She sees herself of a servant to her family and her own wild ambition, with a desire of using her interest in the old religion to further her family's gain.

Juliana looks her age but holds a curious wisdom in her grey-green eyes. She has pale ivory skin from her life in the castle and gloomy climate. She had waist length black hair that has a natural and gentle wave, which she considers her best quality. She had a long nose and slightly pointed chin with an oval face. Although she looks stern with her eyebrow raised, her face looks young and carefree when she smiles and laughs.

Juliana is of average height with a slender build. She has a long neck and fingers that she showcases with her gowns and rings. She dresses in the appropriate gowns and style of court, wearing fine silks and linens. Her favorite gown for daily tasks is a simple forest green gown with a decorate belt and brown riding boots. Her cloak is an warm, expensive emerald green piece with a golden brooch and fur lined hood. She prefers to wear her hair down and to the side, only bothering with headpieces during special occasions.

Juliana is the second daughter of Hyland, born during a harsh winter storm. Being born a girl, only a small celebration was had, and the birth, she was told, had been difficult on her lady mother. Despite the disappointment in another girl, she was raised with the same love and rights as her other trueborn siblings. She was taught the role and duties of a woman, and is able to present herself like a true lady. Juliana hates any of the ‘women’s work’ and will often sneak away to the library in the castle or to explore the land around her home. Juliana soon found it was easier to ask forgiveness then permission, and uses this and her charm to her advantage.

Since she was small Juliana was a reader of the macabre, learning about the cruel history of the lands and Kingdom, and tales from centuries before. The interest grew into a curiosity of the old Gods and stories of powers that no man could dream of. Although her family worships the one true God and she follows the religious rituals, in her heart she believes in the old Gods of stories and worlds long gone. Her interest in the Gods are not pure; her worship surrounding what they had can do for her. Juliana speaks to no one about this dark truth, although she aspires to study and become a priestess if she is able to escape Hyland and any marriage her family may arrange for her. She has spent years studying the few books she can find in secret, along with learning about poisons and dreaming of using her skills to help her family find their rightful place on the throne.

Tybalt may be one of the oldest in the family, but he is certainly not the most respected. True to the Quell sea archetype, this lack of respect towards Tybalt comes mostly from his typical Quell attitude. He is unwilling to cooperate in most cases, unless people are listening to what he is saying. Some would call him a real leader, others would call him arrogant. Regardless of which it is, he makes sure people are listening to him, and there is nothing that annoys him greater than people that ignore him.

Something that does set him apart from other typical Quell inhabitants is that he is relatively humble. He will most likely never boast about his achievements and strengths, mostly because he does not believe his achievements and strengths are better than that of others. For him, his achievements are merely in service to the Gully family as well as the people of the Quell sea. This creates a paradox for him. While he is unwilling to cooperate most of the time, he does wish to further the lives of his family and his people, but would never cooperate with them in order to do just that.

Another trait that Tybalt has, that perhaps is not home to many people within the Quell region, is that he's a servant at heart. He is not so ambitious to think himself king or lord, and his position in life doesn't exactly make him qualified for any of that. Rather, he just wishes to serve his patriarch, the lord of the Quell seas. His are always for the King, the kingdom of Lhivoria, for the Gully family, and the Quell people. These are where his loyalties lie -- and as such, he has become extremely loyal. Perhaps not always for the right reasons, but if he trusts you, it will be hard for him to betray you.

Furthermore his servitude paired with his bravery provide somewhat of a unique, if not deadly trait. He is brave enough to become semi-suicidal when it comes to completing his tasks, or his self-instilled 'goals' such as protecting the Gully family. If anyone were ever to come after the family and come even an inch close to his lord or his family, he'd throw himself in front of the danger and die, gladly, to protect those of the same blood.

Maybe the lack of respect towards Tybalt is deserved, but despite that, he's still willing to die for the cause of the Gully's.

Tybalt is not related to the lord directly, being a cousin of his whose parents have sent him to the court of the lord to fulfill his familial duty and serve the lord. This has become somewhat of a sticking point for Tybalt - he realizes he will never get a proper title due to his position as being 'merely' a cousin to many of the princes.

He was born in a village on a remote island, ruled by his parents. While the village was relatively well off, they were far, far behind the rest of Lhivoria. And this contented the young Tybalt, for he wanted naught more in his life than a full belly and the comfort of his home. For 12 years he lived there in this village, sitting in a dark but comfortable hall at the top of a hill, looking over the village which sustained itself mostly with fishing.

From the age of 12, the local guard commander took over the teachings of young Tybalt, and taught him how to use a blade. The man was relatively good, but he was just a guard commander, and ultimately there was a limit to what he could teach young Tybalt. Ultimately the man told his parents Tybalt was done learning, after two years, and was fit to be a soldier. But Tybalt's parents were not satisfied, a soldier is merely a soldier, but a knight, that is much more.

They arranged for a boat to send him to the capital, and so he traveled to the capital with an escort of four young guards, whom were all equally terrified of what might happen on the road. Lhivoria was not as safe as it sounded, at times, and traveling with a young nobleman, barely old enough to crack his voice, was definitely unsafe. However they arrived in the capital safely, after which Tybalt continued his lessons with a veteran knight. He squired for the man for nearly two more years, and learned a great many things.

As he became 16, he became a man and was no longer a boy. In turn, he was done being a squire, and the knight ended his service to him by 'cutting the ties'. They were now no longer knight and squire, they were now two individual men, with equal standing. Due to his position as a nobleman, Tybalt was called to the court of the king and was knighted by the king, officially making him a knight of Lhivoria as so many princes and noblemen were.

But Tybalt was not just a nobleman. He was a 2nd rate cousin to a lord that was considered an 'outcast' even in the kings courtship. He was treated like one of the lowest knights, and for the duration of his stay in the capital, he was sent off on errant tasks that were 'dirty jobs' such as collecting taxes, or dealing with banditry and pirates. During a few of the small scale skirmishes between lords, Tybalt fought as well, earning him some real combat experience.

Fast forward five years, and he was now 23, and already a hardened veteran of some of the most important battles of Lhivoria. Surely, they were not on a global scale, but Tybalt had seen the gruesome effects war could have on soldiers, but also on peasants. He felt ill for them, knowing that he'd caused part of the damages. He vowed to make sure the inhabitants of the Quell region would never face such injustices for as long as Tybalt lived. His own personal quest became to protect the borders of the Quell sea, becoming it's own champion without as much as a word from the Lord.

After two more years, Tybalt was released from his duties to the king, for now, and was sent back to the Quell sea region. He rode there alone and arrived safely, not dealing with any bandits or anything of the sorts. They knew better than to mess with Tybalt, who rode clad in armor, with a thick steel bastard sword on his belt, swaying eerily to the side and back.

He arrived at the docks, and took a boat back to the capital of the Quell region, where he arrived at midnight, under the guise of the night. He had donned his cloak, and entered the hall, walking up to the lord and taking a deep knee.

“My good lord,” he spoke to him, before raising his hands and lowering the hood over his head. “Tybalt of the Quell Sea is here to serve you.”

Being accepted back into service of the good lord Gully, Tybalt spent the next ten years serving the lord, protecting his family and eventually took seat as the Master at Arms, placing him in a position of military advisorship among a council of other master-at-arms.

Catarina Liyana Gully, her middle name coming in memory of lord Arthur's late mother, rest her weary soul.

Catarina is possibly the spitting image of a good, calm lady that serves her duties (read: sits by, waiting to get married off) without a single hint of dismay at this fate. This is possibly due to her rather child-like nature or her lack of political interest, which lead her to not quite understand how the world works. In her mind everything is as idealistic as it gets, with the king being the most noble man on earth, and her father being but a loyal servant, a great man within his own right. She could not be farther from the truth, but nobody has explained it to her, and even if they would, she would likely not believe them.

Despite her good girl nature, she can switch between being playfully boyish (for a lack of other kids to play with) and being the perfect daughter. She likes throwing stones into the water as much as the next boy, and enjoys playing whenever she gets the chance. At the same time, she knows how to curtsy perfectly well, and knows how to behave like a lady, as well as what proper etiquette is. That much her lessons have supplied her with. She is sweet and kind, knows her way in and around the ladies and lords of the court, and above all shows to be a perfect candidate for being married off.

Does a lady work? No such thing.

Much of Catarina's early life could be described as easy. Being the youngest, she was never lacking when it came to attention and she seemed to have a relatively good bond with most of her siblings for the time they spent together. Which obviously wasn't all that much given her siblings were all either older, or had different interests. Never the less, she got along fine with them. While her mother was perhaps cold at times, but her family orientation made it so that Catarina was never short of love when it came to her mother. She spent much of her early childhood in the care of this woman, and has vowed to return the favor when the day beckons.

Growing up more, she started spending less time in the backrooms of the courts and more time inside the court itself, seeing her father at work and experiencing nobility first hand. At time she felt like the center of attention, while other times she merely sat back in the corner of the room, playing on her own. It was confusing, for a while, and she adapted a boyish attitude because of it as she was forced to deal with it somehow. Becoming assertive and not being afraid was her self defense, which earned her the label of being 'too boyish' in her early years. That changed later, when she became the girl she is now - boyish, but beautiful enough to make people forgive it.

Her teens were spent learning how to do lady-like things, such as sewing and other such tasks. Arduous works, but none the less somewhat enjoyable. Catarina never had a preference when it came to playing or learning, because she was a girl that switched up easily, and could go from an active child outside, to being a silent and patient girl inside. Due to this she was seen as the perfect daughter (in a way) because she did not complain, and accepted her fate as a lady of the court.

Once her studies were done, as they are now, she simply lived life in the court, never doing one thing for too long, and simply doing what she felt like doing.

Maria has a very outgoing personality, she tries to always see the best in people however she does have a mouth on her and is brutally honest a lot of the time. She also is sarcastic which at times may throw people off a bit, she doesn't try to act lady like either due to her status of being a bastard like her twin brother. She enjoys being out in the wilderness a lot of the time and is always seen hunting, and trapping a lot with hunting parties providing food for her family and the people. Maria isn't all that smart when it comes to politics however and tries her best to stay as far away from it as possible.

Maria enjoys most of her time hunting, or being with her brother Tiras who she gets a long really well with, she also enjoys archery. She also enjoys horseback riding as much as possible, and enjoys being out in the wilderness then being in the city and could spend days at a time outside of the castle if she could.

Growing up Maria didn't know anything about her mother, and she has never felt the need to try and find out who she is. Maria wasn't fully treated like royalty like her brother Tiras as well, growing up instead of learning the courtly things like her brothers and sisters were Maria took up hunting and tracking. She didn't take up blacksmithing like her brother did however though she knows how to use one to defend herself with, she prefers being outside hunting with others or by herself, she is very skilled in tracking animals and has made a little name for herself.

When she was ten with her brother Tiras they came across a little fox she would help him take care of the little thing, though her brother is more attached to the baby fox. Lucan has always held a decent relationship with those in his family, but he has also retained the ire of some, including his father, over his lack of ambition. At no point in his life has Lucan showered any remote interest in the titles which are his by birth, and he has actively worked to ensure he does not need to take on such titles and lordships in the event of his father's death. Some in his family believe this lack of ambition to be a bad thing, and they view him as being against the cause of the Gully family. Others however view it positively, it makes Lucan less of an obstacle for their own ambitions, and humble a generally quite proud man.

Lucan is more than aware of his own skills and accomplishments, and he has no quarrel with touting it. He always has his head held high, and despite his lack of ambition or even major contribution to its efforts, he is incredibly proud of the Gully name. He makes it well known how his work in the kingsguard serves his family more than anything, he claims that often his position retains a great deal of pride and respect for the Gully's in the eyes of the king. He is most proud however, of his skill with a blade. A champion fighter, Lucan will flaunt his ability whenever given the opportunity.

It is not uncommon for Lucan to have that ability put to use in work other than protecting the king. From time to time, the king sends Lucan on particular missions of a nature which he can only entrust to those close to him in his court. In a trail-by-combat, Lucan is usually the go-to champion of the crown considering his skill, and to this day he has never lost a duel. Lucan is quite happy to take these missions and assignments, no matter how dangerous, he feels an immense thrill in the danger, and is considered by many to be quite brave.

Lucan fancies himself rather amusing and witty, and a friendly conversation with him is likely to result in a number of sarcastic or sly comments from the knight. This can be particularly irritating in certain cases, as sometimes it can be quite difficult to tell when Lucan is being sarcastic. This attitude also can make some believe he is unserious, or that he cares little about a situation or serious conversation should he be making such comments.

From a young age, Lucan knew quite well what lay before him as the first-born son of Lord Gully. It was explained to him at a very young age the incredible weight of responsibility, and the power which he would one day have. While others in his family, and around Lhivoria would have likely killed to be in his position, Lucan found he had no desire for such a life. He did not vocalize such desire for a great deal of time however. For much of his young life, he simply followed the training that was given to him, both as a lord and a warrior. He was squired to a knight in the Gully court, and served faithfully alongside him for many years, learning the ways of the blade.

As he was trained, Lucan saw as his younger siblings were born, saw how they took to the noble life in a far better manner than he did. Reaching the age of seventeen, Lucan was knighted properly, but did not immediately return to his home in the Quell Sea. Lucan spent some time in the Capital speaking with the king, eventually agreeing to take the vows to join the Kingsguard. He briefly returned home to explain his decision to his father. Considering the fact he'd kept his lack of ambition relatively secret from his parents, Lucan's father was quite displeased initially, but Lucan would not be convinced otherwise.

Leaving his home in the Quell Sea at the age of twenty, Lucan traveled to Corevial Castle and began his servitude in the Kingsguard. He served loyally for many years, and during his time there grew close with many members of the royal family, including the young princess. The king often assigned Lucan as his daughter's personal guard, should she have gone away, and there were more than a few instances in which Lucan actively defended the princess or other members of the royal family from bandits, assassins and others. He rose through the ranks relatively quickly, and came quite strongly into the King's graces as he became second-in-command of the Kingsguard.

It was at this point Lucan began his personal assignments for the king, unintentionally becoming more involved in the politics of the kingdom as a result. When the king wished to make a threat, or a 'suggestion' to a lord or family which had ideas against the king's interests, Lucan was often sent to deliver such a message. It was not uncommon for these threats to escalate, in which case Lucan had to put down one or two noblemen who took particular offence to the message of the king.

On one particular mission, Lucan was sent along with the lord-commander of the kingsguard to deliver such a message to a Vaernin noble family. The lords took great offense to the king's threat, and attacked both Lucan and the lord-commander. During the fight, the nobles who attacked them were killed, but so was the lord commander, stabbed through the back by one of the noble boys of the family. Lucan returned to the capital with the body of his superior so he could be properly buried, and afterward he was appointed as the new Lord-Commander, taking on his duties without question and continuing his work for the crown.

Arthur has always often preferred to do things himself, and his own way. This is in terms of all things, and particularly his leadership in the field of battle. Arthur will always take the field with his men, never leading from behind if he can avoid it, and he takes personal charge of military forces in campaigns. He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and even despite his age often involves himself in the grittier tasks of everyday life.

There is a great deal of contempt and spite which Arthur feels in his everyday life. For his enemies and rivals, and even for his own friends and family. There is a great deal which he dislikes or finds disappointing about his children, and he makes no effort to conceal that fact from them. He will openly ridicule his children if he finds it necessary, and has no issue with speaking harshly to them.

For Arthur, there is nothing more important in life than furthering the position of himself and his family, he would do anything for any member of his family, even those he despises more than others. Should they carry his family name, Arthur will come to their aid if it is needed, no matter what.

Arthur knows what is best for him, and often that comes in trickery, betrayal and outright lies. He is not afraid to go behind people's backs, or choose the less honourable option if it has a better result for him. Generally he is one that someone can find difficult to trust, especially if you are not counted among his allies. Particularly in the field of battle, Arthur's cunning is not to be underestimated.

Becoming the Lord

When Arthur was born, the Gully's were not the major house in the region of the Quell Sea, and were in fact a house in decline living in the meagre holding of Northpond. The only son to his fat, lazy father Meryn Gully, Arthur's mother died during his birth. Early in his days Arthur became a student of history, both from his father and the many scholars in the Gully court, he learned from an early age that the Gully family had once been a powerful and feared house, but over a period of many years had fallen into decline under lords who took their positions for granted.

This knowledge bred a great contempt in Arthur for his father, and an immense desire to see the Gully family restored to their rightful place as Wardens of the Quell Sea region. At this time, the Gully family had few bannermen, only the Moors were truly loyal to them, while their other bannermen, the Firemasons, had begun to grow discontent under the lazy leadership of Meryn. The Wardens of the region at this point was House Malver. House Malver had grown discontent with only holding control over the Quell Sea, and had been in great tension with House Ainsworth for many years.

Eventually, while Arthur's father was visiting with House Malver, they declared a rebellion against the crown, and demanded Arthur lead all of the Gully forces to Serpent's Roost, so they could join in the rebellion. Refusing to follow such a demand, Lord Carth Malver executed Meryn in the hopes it would bring Arthur to heel. In reality, Meryn's execution had been exactly what Arthur hoped for, and he took over as Lord of House Gully.

The Malver Rebellion

House Gully was weaker than the Malver's in terms of their army, but they had a greater navy, having been the major boat-builders for the Malver's during their time of servitude. Some of their armed forces were emboldened by retainers sent by the crown for their loyalty, but Arthur did not have a force strong enough to beat the Malver's conventionally, and certainly not enough to besiege Serpent's Roost. However, Arthur knew very well that the Malver's were aware of the Gully's weaker forces, and he counted on it.

Beginning a march toward Serpent's Roost, Arthur sent the majority of the Gully navy to distract what ships the Malver's did have in the Quell Sea itself, while a host of ships moved with his marching army along the cliffs, eventually meeting it at the White Rock. White Rock was an area right on the edge of the sea with high, cliffs of white stone and jagged rocks at its bottom. There was only two ways to approach the rock, from an easily defensible plain leading up a steep hill, or a land bridge, hidden by the tall rock itself which gave the area its name.

Arthur knew well about the land bridge, and although he figured the Malver's would use it he made no defences there, setting up all of his trenches and defenses on the plain, perfectly setting the guise of a camp waiting for a main assault. This emboldened Lord Malver, who sent a small force to distract the Gully's on the plain while the majority crossed the land bridge. When they were far enough across, Arthur had the catapults mounted on his ships open fire on the bridge, destroying it with ease and sending the majority of the Malver army falling onto the jagged rocks below. As the songs put it, the blood of the Malver's stained the White Rock red.

Easily wiping out the remainder of the Malver forces, Arthur marched on Serpent's Roost and took it relatively unopposed, putting every single Malver to the sword and wiping out the house entirely. For his service, the crown named house Gully the Wardens of the Quell Sea, rewarded Arthur with Serpent's Roost, and a bride, Lady Amara Moor.

Family

Settling into his life in Serpent's Roost, Arthur grew fond of his wife rather rapidly. He found himself reflected in her own ambition, and even her distaste for the Ainsworths, it reminded him much of his own hatred for the Malver family. The two grew to love each other despite any differences, and began to raise a family together.

Despite difficulties in the form of stillborn children which brought Arthur a great deal of frustration, he was never cruel with his wife, and continued to try for children with her despite an occasional discussion over whether it was worth it. Until this point Arthur had devoted too much of his life to his family name to see it crumble now. This frustration caused him to involve himself with a whore during a visit to the Diovire Desert, an experience he rapidly regretted, and chose to keep secret after returning to the Quell Sea. Eventually, their efforts bore fruit and their eldest son Lucan was brought into the world. A few years later, their second son was born, the pair of boys initially brought Arthur great joy, as he personally helped to educate and train them in the ways of history, war, and nobility.

Some years later, Arthur was confronted by his own bastard, Brandt, when the boy claimed to be his son Arthur was more than aware of its truth, he could see it in the boys eyes, but he refused to accept him. Devoted to his wife and regretting deeply even his involvement with Brandt's mother, he openly renounced any connection to Brandt and sent him away. This encounter awoke a more bitter side to Arthur, a contempt for himself which spilled over to his children. He became more harsh with training and teaching them, as if to wipe away his own stain of infidelity, he sought to further enrich the name of House Gully.

This contempt was only strengthened when his eldest son and heir renounced his titles to join the Kingsguard, it was only at the behest of his wife that he did not disown Lucan entirely, and he conceded later that he still held a great love for Lucan, despite his renouncement. Turning to his second son Ithobal, Arthur sought to mould him into the perfect lord, but it was not easy either. Granting him the gift of the Leviathan in an attempt to endear him to his father's word, Ithobal instead took to the open ocean to begin trading and sailing, an action which only built anger within the Gully Lord.

Out of all his children, only one commanded his respect, though still not his trust, and still with a degree of contempt - his daughter. Arthur has always been aware of his daughter's sly and treacherous nature, partly he believes it to be a result of his own teaching. He respects his daughter's ability to play the game, and as a result has granted her a position as his advisor, though he does not trust her, as he likely should not, and is not against using her for his own gain and efforts, regardless of what her own will may be.

For Arthur there is nothing greater than the family, he cares little for the wants and whims of his children.

She is very overprotective of her siblings along with many other people within the Hyland Keep as it shows whenever she is out and about with them. Emmaline is also very strong and she kind of has no choice but to be strong. She is very much the oldest sibling so her will to be strong comes sort of natural to her.

When she was born, she was poised from day one on how to be lady. She stayed by her parents side as they showed her the life of nobility. Being one of the younger princes of House Hyland, Trystan was sheltered from most bad things as he grew up. This made him indecisive. He doesn't know that somethings he needs to take action before he plans out every detail. However, this does not make him any bit less courageous than his hardy kin. On his mother's side, he is Diovirene, and to the Diovirene, his surname would be "Sand." On his father's side, he is of the Quell Sea, and thus his surname is "Trout." Unlike the Gullys, his skin is tanned, and his hair that was once as brown as molasses is prematurely white from mysterious circumstances explained in his "Biography." He bears characteristics of both his mother and father that some with keen eyes are able to note. He does look slightly similar to his Gully brother(s) and sister(s).

The Sea

Brandt was born with the blood of a prince and the blood of a whore. He was lucky to have grown up not afflicted by his mother’s fatal disease, but he grew up watching as it sapped her of her beauty, mobility, and then lastly, her mind. He grew up just in time for he and his mother’s roles to be swapped, and for a boy, it was difficult, watching his mother deteriorate. It made Brandt strong and mature at an early age until she passed on.

Without a mother or a father, Brandt became independent and free. His first voyage was from the Diovire Desert to the Quell Sea to meet with his father. To this day, he never forgot the truth he saw glimmering in his father’s eyes when he recognized him. From his lips, he had denied their blood connection, but Brandt knew that the Lord of House Gully was a liar. Unlike most children who would have been disgruntled about their father denying their existence, Brandt understood why Lord Gully had done so, and he didn’t let it ruin his life or resort to vengeance.

Brandt was resilient and optimistic—if not just in a self-centered manner—he believed himself to be the true heir of House Gully and that he has prince blood. He used this knowledge to amass a fleet of the most experienced and cutthroat pirates from all around Lhivoria. It was his arrogance and beliefs that led him to become one of the most powerful and feared pirates on the sea. Because he was so honest and so zealous in these beliefs, his crew was caught up in them, and they too believe them to be true. He is the pirate king.

As the pirate king, Brandt’s name when whispered on the sea is a frightening one. Many sailors fear that by saying his name, then it carries on the wind, and the Silver Devil appears. The sea tales say that the wind is the captain’s ally, and it always fills his sails to allow his ship to catch-up and out-maneuver his enemies. The tales say that the captain’s hair turned white when he looked Death in the eyes, and since there is a story concerning his left eye and that any who gaze upon it die. The tales say that the captain has witches for wives. They are called the Silver Witches as well as The Sirens of the Sea. His wives lead men to their deaths.

Brandt stands at 6'3" and weighs 192 lbs. He is lean in build and not too heavy for his knife arts require him to be lithe and quick. His complexion is slightly tan due to his Diovirene characteristics and he wears an eye patch over his left eye that the "sea tales" says is the Eye of Death. Really, the story about that eye is entirely different, and it is explained in his "Biography." His hair is prematurely white and that too is explained in his bio. For being a pirate king, most expect the roughest looking pirate, but bearing the blood of the Gullys and the blood of the finest whore in the Diovire Desert, it is no wonder why Brandt has many wives.

Special Note (1): Brandt knows who all of his brothers and sisters are for he still keeps track of the Gully lineage. Because he knows who they are, there may be an opportunity for "partnership" or even "mercy" in the future. He still considers them blood unless one of his siblings/cousin(s) wishes to believe otherwise. Word of advice - don't believe otherwise.

Special Note (2): The exact story as to what happened on The Island of Death is not explained in the biography for it is a secret that Brandt has told to no one, not even his wives (at least so far unless they are eventually played by players). Brandt would only share such a secret with a close friend or "sibling."

Special Note (3): The Kraken's flag is black but unlike ye olde skull and crossbones, it bears an undead kraken in white on the front.

Brandt was born to Lord Gully and a Diovirene whore by the name of Jesemine “Desert Lotus” Joyce. She was a beauty with long black hair and eyes so dark that a man could drown in them. Lord Gully, at the time, had no heirs and was away from home on voyage to the Diovire Desert coast. He had needed fresh air for the stress of his wife’s infertility had been weighing sickly on his mind and shoulders (she would later bear him children). It is uncertain whether Jesemine intentionally sought to steal the heart of Lord Gully, desiring for him to plant his seed in her so that she would be able to bear a child who might be able to lift her out of the slum she lived in, or that their meeting was by chance. After Lord Gully’s visit, she became pregnant with his child and sent word to him by a thief and friend named Liota. Liota caught a ship to the Quell Sea region, and was able to cunningly sneak into the Gully Keep before she was accidentally killed by the guards who feared that she was an assassin. She gave the guard a message that contained the startling news that he would deliver to Lord Gully. In response to the message, Lord Gully sent Jesemine enough gold to take care of her child and to pay for funeral rites for her friend. The response hadn’t been what she had wanted for she had hoped Lord Gully would have taken his future son to his home, but he instead have given her gold so that she would remain silent on the matter and raise her son in peace.

Peace, however, did not come to Jesemine for she had contracted a disease from one of her johns. She was able to give birth to Brandt without him suffering any side-effects from her illness, but through the child’s growth, she became weaker and sicker up to her last years. She continued to write to Lord Gully, and received no response. She told him about his son and about how her health was deteriorating.

Brandt was twelve years old when his mother passed, and uncertain of what to do next with his life, he sought out the only other person he knew of: his father. He stowed away on one of the ships leaving to the Quell Sea. When Lord Gully had been returning from a diplomatic trip, Brandt boldly confronted him and was nearly cut down when his knights surrounded him. Brandt put his father on the spot when he claimed to be his son, which confused and angered the loyal servants around him. He saw it in his eyes, and would never forget the look Lord Gully had worn on his face then. He denied the claim and ordered him away before he had his knights imprison him. Brandt was left standing stunned and speechless, questioning whether his mother had been right or not, but he could never forget the truth in the look his father had given him.



Brandt accepted that he was the true heir to House Gully, but he desired a greater title—something above his father and his siblings to be. It was only fate. How else had he lived when his mother was stricken with a life-threatening disease? With his royal blood, he was meant to rule, but reaching the title of Pirate King hadn’t been an easy journey.

He started fresh and naïve, boasting about his bloodline in many a tavern around the Quell Sea region. Intelligence eventually reached the Gully Keep about a young man claiming to be the son of Lord Gully, and an unsanctioned order was given to silence the fool. One night when drunk and asleep with a whore in his bed, an assassin entered his room and nearly succeeded in killing him. If not for the whore beside him, who had been a light sleeper, screaming into the night, then Brandt may not have ever woke. It had been Brandt’s first encounter with an assassin, and the man’s skill had frightened him. He spent majority of the fight running and struggling not to suffer a fatal injury. This led his killer to believe that he was nothing but an inexperienced coward. As soon as the assassin became overconfident, Brandt utilized Diovirene trickery and sent a knife flying right into the assassin’s throat. The man had died drowning in his own blood and Brandt had been able to unmask him and learn that he was one of his father’s men. Brandt realized then that if he wanted to build a crew, then the dogs of the Quell Sea would have to be won last.

Brandt returned home to the Diovire Desert and sought out the slaves. He stole and liberated many who chose to serve him under their own volition. Of those slaves, he married four who were the most beautiful and deadliest of women in the desert. All four were killers, bandits, and pirates reduced to a life of slavery as punishment for their crimes. They fell in love with the man who bore the blood of a prince and king, and chose to serve him under the name “The Sirens of the Sea.” They were not only capable of loosening the lips of any man or lady, but killing them.

Brandt’s crew had started off small, but gradually grew in size as they continued to liberate slaves in the region and recruit them onto his ship. Eventually, each of Brandt’s wives had their own ships, and Brandt had himself a small fleet. The ships left Diovire to return to the Quell Sea region, hoping to once again win over the loyalty of the pirates in the area. Brandt had managed to recruit a few, but they proved to be unlike the slaves he had on his ships. The pirates of the Quell sea were arrogant and wild. They needed more convincing that he was the true king.

Brandt was told a tale of Death in the body of an old woman who inhabited an island off the coast of the Vaernin Forest. It was said that the old woman bore the secrets to all the gold hidden in the sea, but many a pirate or sailor who braved the island never returned. Brandt was challenged to brave the island and return with Death’s secrets, and Brandt accepted. When the captain went ashore the island, he told his wives and men not to follow him. The captain was gone for three months and during that period, his wives found it difficult to control the unruly Quell Sea pirates. They tried to start a mutiny on countless occasions and The Sirens personally dispatched of those who were treacherous, but still many more appeared. They were soon joined by enemy ships who threatened to take Brandt’s fleet while he was away.

On the last day of the third month, Brandt returned to the shore to the crew’s relief but he was different from what they remembered. His hair had gone stark-white and his left eye had become a milky bluish-white color. They thought that Brandt might have gone blind in that eye, but he told them that he could see better than before. Brandt told no one what had happened and his reappearance had been shocking enough to end the mutiny on his ship. He mercilessly sank the enemy ships that had harassed his fleet, the men claiming that a man had left them and a Silver Devil had returned.

With the loyalty of his new crew won, Brandt put his old name behind him. Brandt Theomore Trout died on The Island of Death. He was now Captain Silvermane Kraken, Captain of the Kraken, and Pirate King of the Sea.

Lady Grey Isadora Dalisini Coulbourne was born the second child to Lord and Lady Coulbourne of Vaernin Forest, and their only daughter. Their's was a sternly religious, almost militant household, one that pushed for excellence and discipline, and accepted nothing less than the best. Perhaps this harsh upbringing was what drove Grey to mischief and adventuring, searching for some escape from her regimented home. Too impulsive, too honest, too warm, she was always the black sheep of her well-kept family.

And so, it really should've surprised no one when she gave her heart too easily to a man who didn't deserve it.

Doran Trynne was handsome, charming, and just the right amount of dangerous. And oh, how she loved him for it. He only loved her last name and the feeling it gave him to know that he'd managed to catch her. But Grey couldn't look past her idealism to see that. Predictably, he played with her, used her, and left her, but not before planting seeds of life within her. It was her younger brother Orin who found her crying, curled beneath an oak tree after being missing for two days. Between her tears, Grey whispered the truth to him: she loved Doran, and he was gone. She'd told him of their future child, and he'd left after a thunderous rage. Orin was quiet for a long moment as he looked at her. Then without a word, he helped her to her feet, and escorted her home.

Her parents took the news as well as could be expected. That is to say, not well at all. As they yelled and glowered and bemoaned their luck at having such a disgraceful, foolish daughter, Orin snuck away. It wasn't until three days later, after Doran Trynne had been found dead at a riverbank with an arrow through his chest, that Grey's little brother returned home.

Grey was hidden from sight for nearly a year, but in that time rumor festered through the forest. Lord and Lady Coulbourne carried the disgrace of having a foolish, unmarried mother for a daughter. Scandal stained their name with every whispered name and drunken speculation.

When Grey finally gave birth, it was to two tiny girls, Fayne and Linara. Her parents wanted to abandon them to the forest and let nature take its course. But then Grey did something she'd never done before: she spoke against them. Though by no means an obedient child, Grey had always submitted whenever her parents raised their hackles.

But exhausted and impassioned, Grey finally fought back. And they conceded to allowing the bastard twins to live.

She entrusted her girls to a household servant, Liliana, her oldest friend (and first unrequited crush). Grey gave them enough money to hide away at the far edge of the forest, away from rumor and speculation. The two women exchanged letters weekly, idle gossip mixed with news of the two young girls' daily lives and development. Grey's heart was in a constant flux of crumbling apart and sewing itself back up again. Sadness at being separated warred with the sheer joy of knowing her girls were alive and cared for, and the hope at being with them again.

Then her parents told her that they'd arranged for her to marry one of the Hyland bastards. Grey was to be sent to Corevial to attend the princess' festival with an entourage to represent House Coulbourne, and then from there return with House Hyland to Mount Promonon. The scandal surrounding her had grown too shameful, and even though she showed no hint that she'd been pregnant, even though no one knew of her daughters, her family name could not bear the burden of her mistakes. And so she was to be sent away, to the mountains, and hopefully the forest would forget. Her daughters were not to go with her – if they were seen together it'd only reignite the rumors they were trying to douse.

Grey could weather her family's shame. She could adapt to a marriage with a man she'd never met. But she will not be kept from her daughters.

Myriam has never been particularly interested in leading. The very idea seems to put her on edge, as so many things do. She prefers to spend her time entertaining herself, fishing or reading by the shore when she can find the time to sneak away. Although she's something of an introvert, it's rare for her to turn down the company of others, and she's friendly and approachable enough to carry a conversation with. However, the only time she's completely comfortable is in the presence of her family, with the exception of her father.

While not necessarily honest by nature, it's easy to tell when Myriam is lying or hiding something. Her nervous demeanor usually gives away her dishonesty. As a result, she tends to tell the truth, saving herself from the embarrassment should she choose not to. Because she lacks any sort of desire to lead, Myriam would much rather have others tell her what to do, or to advise her in certain matters. Her inability to make her own decisions consequently makes her an easily manipulated person.

The second child and first born daughter of Arthur and Amara Gully, Myriam was very quiet and soft-spoken throughout her adolescence. This only worsened as her father's demeanor soured, for reasons unbeknownst to her, making her self conscious and nervous. As a result, her relationship with Arthur became increasingly strained, to the point where she found his very presence suffocating. And when Lucan left to join the Kingsguard and Ithobal set sail to travel the world, she too longed to leave her home one day, away from the scrutinizing eye of her father, and away from any possibility of ever leading the Gully family.

When she wasn't being tutored in manners of courtship and diplomacy, Myriam preferred to spend her time alone, if not with her mother and sisters. She often found solace in fishing on the docks, whether or not she caught something, or reading through tales and legends of ferocious sea creatures and brave sailors who conquered the seas so many years ago. With Ithobal's upcoming return to their family's home, Myriam has been able to relax, for the moment, knowing that he still remains a viable heir. However, nervousness and concern still plague her mind, as she anxiously waits for the day that her parents marry her off to another family.

Isadora was born to woman named Olinda Pemberly, who worked as a maidservant for the noble family Evanthe of Diovire. On the same night Izza was born, Lord Evanthe's wife was also giving birth. Lady Scylla was a pitiful woman. After five miscarriages, and six still born babies, she was stuck in a loveless marriage, and ridiculed for not being able to produce a heir. It was no wonder she snapped after giving birth to yet another stillborn that night.

Lady Scylla was a bundle of complex emotions. The news that Olinda had just given birth to a healthy baby girl, down in the servants quarters reached Scylla, and she went off the deep end. With threats and bribery she switched baby Isadora with her own lifeless baby. Lord Raymond Evanthe would never know the truth. He was overjoyed to have a child, he adored her, and named her after his beloved grandmother. With that Olinda buried her daughter Cleo Sand, and little Isadora Evanthe was alive. Only three people at that point knew the truth; Lady Scylla, the midwife Britta, and a handmaiden named Nesrine.

Izza was three years old when Olinda finally knew the truth. The woman had always had her doubts, as she cared for the tiny girl, who looked eerily similar to herself, and has the exact same bright blue eyes as Lord Emerin. Britta finally confirmed Olinda's suspicions one night after to much ale. The results of this confession, were Olinda trying to kidnap a sleeping toddler, getting caught by none other then Lady Evanthe herself, and in the end Olinda was given the option of silence or death. So the crying Izza was put back to bed, and Olinda would watch her daughter grow up from afar. Britta was found floating dead in the courtyard fountain the next morning.

Isadora grew up oblivious to the truth. All she knew and believed was that she was the only child of house Evanthe, a noble girl from the Diovire Desert. Izza spent her childhood running around in the gardens, ignorant and happy. Long hot day where spent swimming in the river, and taking her lessons in the cool shade. Lord Raymond would read her to sleep with stories of mermaids, dragons, and fairies. He loved to teach her about the stars in the sky. She would sit in his lap as he told her all about the different places he been throughout Lhivoria. By the time she was seven Izza could tell you the name of all the constellations, and the stories behind them. Isadora was smart, warmhearted, and beautiful, which just made Scylla resent her more. The relationship with her 'mother' was strained, and full of bitterness. Scylla was strict, bitter and rather cold towards Isadora. After two more miscarriages and three still births Scylla finally gave birth to a living baby when Isadora was nine. Now that she had her own biological child she basically ignored Izza completely.

Izza never understood why her 'mother' disliked her so much. Now that she had a new little sister it became even more apparent to young Izza that her mother never loved her. She watched as the sour faced woman she grew up with changed into a loving devoted mother full of smiles and hugs for baby Magdalene, but never for Isadora.

Four years later Lord Raymond died of a heart attack. After the funeral Olinda told Izza the truth about who she was, and explained everything to her. It all made complete since. She had always wondered why she looked nothing like her parents, and this explained why Scylla hated her. Isadora confronted the woman, not really knowing what she was hoping for. Scylla barely batted a eyelash, as she told Izza that Olinda was telling her the truth. Shortly after Lady Evanthe sent her far away to be a handmaiden to the young princess. For appearance purposes Scylla didn't disown Izza outright, but she did make sure to disinherit her from the Evanthe fortune, leaving her with nothing for a dowry, or allowance. Scylla also made sure Izza's status as adopted was made apparent among the important people.
