@Balthazar007 Okay, so the order of importance I'm getting from this: 1) Move typing 2) STAB + move power level (ie: 65 or 100) 3) level 4) number of Pokemon involved
Shouldn't the number of Pokemon involved play a greater role? Since I'm pretty sure that, if we'd done it on Pokemon SHowdown, Camden's team of two would have beat the level 9 Voltorb with tackles alone.
//edit: Also, am busy right now so my post will likely have to wait until either tomorrow (procrastination happens) or the weekend (if I'm a good human who has real priorities)
How are the numbers broken down? My gut assumption was that the roll would favor Camden since he has 1) more Pokemon and 2) higher-level Pokemon, yet the roll favored Lutz with one level 9 Voltorb? (edit: also with Cherubi's grass-type resistance against electric-type moves)
And if it goes like this I might actually prefer to use Pokemon Showdown >_> I feel like sheer HP + Tackle power could have allowed him to win, fighting 2 level 11's to one level 9 haha
// edit 2: also forgot to put it in my end-of-post notes, but Dana deposited her Jigglypuff and put in a request for more Pokeballs. My bad there.
France || Headquarters || May 14th, Dusk After Dana returned to headquarters, she deposited the Jigglypuff and put in a request for more Pokeballs before heading off to dinner. The ranking boards seemed not to have changed much, and it seemed like many trainers from the Pokemon world had chosen to abstain, not that Dana minded. Competition was voluntary, of course, and she was never one to question another trainer’s priorities.
She signed up, Dana thought, spotting a trainer she recognized from the listings. Tiffany Bellomo—a fellow champion, though maybe not quite as accomplished as Dana herself, was still a champion nonetheless, and challenging a champion wasn’t something to be done easily.
Weak links right now would be Combusken, Duskull, and Marshtomp due to their devolutions, Dana thought. Of those, Combusken has the least expertise with its form, since it’s adapted to a different power level and isn’t used to its own softer blows. But, she thought, standing, her Pokemon would be similarly weakened, so it comes down to finding out who made better use of the last few months.
“Tiffany,” Dana said, walking over to the woman, who—spotting her—grinned.
“Dana! Dana Stamos, right?” Tiffany asked, her smile radiant.
Dana nodded. “You entered Earth’s Pokemon League,” she said.
“Oh, yes, that I did,” Tiffany said, smile curving at the edges. “Now, let me guess—you’re here to challenge me.”
Dana smiled politely. “What do you say about a battle, Tiffany?”
“Oh, I’d love to see how I measure up against the great Dana Stamos,” Tiffany said, grinning as the two walked over to the battle grounds.
Dana took up position on the far side of the field, calling out her Clefable.
“You know, you’re a bit smaller than you seem on TV,” Tiffany said, smile friendly as ever. “And your Dusknoir has seen better days.”
“Good luck, Tiffany,” Dana said flatly.
“I’m not sure I’ll need it,” Tiffany returned, smiling as she called out her first Pokemon.

Camden Montero
France || Paris Proper || May 14th, Dusk Voltorb! Camden thought with alarm. He’d had a few too many explode on him in game, and being reminded of it wasn’t helping his pounding heart.
Okay, this is it, he thought, grinning. My first battle as a trainer. Gothita against Voltorb.
“Alright, Thea. Let’s do this,” Camden said. “Start off with the teary combo!”
Thea immediately burst into tears.
Alright. Then Confusion when the enemy lets its guard down, Camden thought, grinning. So far so good.
Pokemon:
Ruby // Cherubi ♂ — Lvl 11^: modest
Thea // Gothita ♀ — Lvl 11: sassy
@Balthazar007 Gothita — Fake Tears then Confusion — on Voltorb.
France || Park || May 14th, Late Afternoon It didn’t take Dana long to notice that her Ivysaur was being outsped by a Pokemon that should have been slower than it.
“Rock Slide,” she said as she called out her Marshtomp. With her Marshtomp keeping the wild Pokemon occupied, Dana walked over to her Ivysaur. She’d noticed a faint glow on the Ivysaur, and now that she recognized it, she took a step back to watch as the Ivysaur evolved, white light consuming its form as it expanded, growing to fill previously empty space. When the light faded, Dana was left staring at the Pokemon’s usual form.
“Welcome back, Venusaur,” Dana said. The newly-evolved Pokemon shook its ferns off, rising from the ground like an ancient machine brought to life.
“Another day,” Dana said, returning the Venusaur before turning to watch the ongoing battle with a frown.
Pokemon:
Duskull ♂ — Lvl 34
Venusaur ♀ — Lvl 34
Combusken ♂ — Lvl 34^
Scizor ♂ — Lvl 34
Marshtomp ♂ — Lvl 34^
Clefable ♀ — Lvl 34
@Balthazar007 Marshtomp (Rock Slide) > lvl 17 Jigglypuff, male. Dana will throw a Pokeball if she wins.
Camden Montero
France || Paris Proper || May 14th, Mid Afternoon “Alright!” Camden shouted when the Gothita went down. “Good job, Rubes!”
Retrieving a Pokeball and throwing it, Camden watched as the Gothita disappeared into the Pokeball, glowing briefly before settling, caught.
“Alright!” Camden said, picking up the Pokeball before running over to Ruby’s side, examining the Cherubi. “You feeling okay? Morning sun’ed already and everything?”
Ruby nodded, giving his leaves as if in proof. Camden grinned.
“Alright, good. Now let’s get back to camp and get your new teammate healed up.” France || Headquarters || May 14th, Late Afternoon “Hey there,” Camden said to the Gothita, which was examining its surroundings warily after being released. When she spotted Camden, she appeared rather surprised, jumping back a few paces to distance herself from him.
“Whoa whoa, it’s alright,” Camden said, glancing at Ruby. “Ruby, would you be able to talk to her?” In the animated series, Pokemon had appeared to be able to communicate to varying degrees of effectiveness. Although Camden wasn’t sure how realistic the show had been, he figured it was worth a shot.
Ruby nodded, stepping forward. “Cher, Cheru,” he said, pointing to himself with a leaf, then to Camden. “Cheru, Bi.”
The Gothita gave him a funny look, but Ruby continued on.
“Cher, cheru!”
“Thita, Gothi,” the Gothita said, crossing her arms.
“Bi, Rubi,” Ruby said. At this, the Gothita directed her gaze towards Camden, her eyes almost accusational.
“I stand behind whatever Ruby’s saying,” Camden said. “But, whatever you two are discussing, it can wait until after you’ve had some food,” he said, pushing a boxes of berries towards each Pokemon. Ruby’s was chock-full of Chestos, whereas the Gothita’s was a mix.
“Eat up,” Camden said, grinning. “And tell me which one you like best, would you?” France || Headquarters || May 14th, Sunset The Gothita—Thea, after she reluctantly uncrossed her arms—liked Rawst berries, which supported Camden’s guess that she had a “sassy” nature. Bitter flavors meant a preference for clever contests, which was an excellent match in Camden’s mind, with all the psychic tricks the Gothita would no doubt be able to do in the future.
After dinner, Camden had taken his Pokemon aside to train, mainly to see how Thea held up in battle. Thankfully, the Gothita’s current moveset included Confusion, a psychic-type move. Combined with Fake tears, Confusion had potential to do a lot of damage, and Tickle would allow her to hold off opponents if needed.
Compared to Ruby, Thea had more options battle-wise, but wouldn’t be able to hold up as long, seeing as the Cherubi had healing options such as Leech Seed and Morning Sun. All the same, Camden was fairly pleased with his team so far, and after their brief rehearsal, he went to check out the ranking boards set up in the main hall to see who he should challenge first.
Another trainer was in front of the board when he arrived, and—judging by the trainer’s manner of dress—Camden figured him to be from Earth.
“Well, looks like not much has happened yet,” Camden said, glancing at the board. There’d been a few battles, but not many.
“Yes,” the trainer beside him said.
“I’m looking to try a battle as well, if you’re interested?” Camden said with a grin. “For training purposes and all that.”
The trainer looked at him, matching his grin. “Why not? Lutz,” he said, extending a hand.
“Camden,” Camden said, accepting the trainer's handshake. “Where do you want to do this?” France || Headquarters || May 14th, Dusk “You’ll do great, Thea,” Camden said with a smile, patting his Gothita’s shoulder. “Win or lose, we’re just here to train.”
Thea nodded, jumping daintily onto the field as Lutz pulled out his own Pokeball.
Sure I’m not expecting to win, Camden conceded with a grin, but that doesn’t mean I’m not trying to.
Pokemon:
Ruby // Cherubi ♂ — Lvl 11^: modest
Thea // Gothita ♀ — Lvl 11: sassy
@Balthazar007 Camden challenged Lutz Heintschel. First Pokemon: Gothita.
Early Morning || Konoha Azumi stared at Ai with wide eyes, surprised at the jonin’s small and friendly stature. However, she quickly recovered her smile: Ai seemed friendlier than both of her teammates, which was reassuring.
“H—hello, I’m Taketori Azumi,” Azumi started awkwardly when it became clear that neither of her teammates was willing to share first. “In the future, I, um, want to become stronger and find out what I want to do,” she said after some struggle, glancing between her teammates and captain. “Nice to meet all of you!”
Masumi “Sumi” Rinha
Early Morning || Konoha Maruyama Ai appeared less formidable than most, but her confidence betrayed her strength, and Masumi was sure that there was more to his jonin captain than what meets the eye.
“Rinha Masumi,” he said when Azumi finished. “I’m going to become a jonin and succeed my clan as heir.” He glanced at Minori, having concluded his part.
Asuka Kurama
Twilight || Iwagakure Outskirts Asuka’s Anbu mask was a snake. Though she didn’t specifically choose the mask, it fit her well; she had few words and fewer emotions, with or without it on. Her job was to carry out her orders, and she did this with utmost efficiency.
Tonight, she was teamed with Sparrow, Rabbit, and Bear to intercept a Iwagakure-Kirigakure jutsu exchange and steal the scrolls involved. According to Konoha’s sources, the exchange was to take place in an isolated sector of Iwagakure. As such, the group formed for the job was comprised of a chakra sensor and ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu specialists. The sensor-type was to help locate the location of the exchange for the genjutsu specialist, who would then distract the enemy shinobi so the ninjutsu and taijutsu specialists could step in and retrieve the scrolls. The group was currently searching for the exact location of the exchange, with Sparrow performing what he did best—scouting and sensing.
Five, Sparrow signalled.
Two, Bear signalled.
One, Asuka, Rabbit, and Sparrow signalled.
Four nods followed, then a silent flurry of motion as the group signed their preparations, Sparrow and Rabbit putting up shadow clones. When they set out, Sparrow led the way as nothing but a shadowy blur flashing between trees. The group of enemy shinobi came into view as Asuka finished her signing. That Kirigakure shinobi preferred to drowse up a light mist whenever they moved would just make her job tonight easier.
Shōmei kiri no Gensō—Mōmokuteki Moya.
With the Jutsu cast, the Anbu team quickly closed in on the Kirigakure shinobi, Asuka bringing her target down with a few precise lightning techniques. Her role was to set up for attacks, so conserving her chakra for the next strike was of essence. Nevertheless, she signed another genjutsu—Genkaku, to make it seem as if another group of Anbu had arrived—to distract the Kirigakure shinobi still standing. The targets went down, Sparrow rising with the scroll in hand.
At a nod from Bear, the group donned their enemies’ garb, Asuka thickening the fog around them as Sparrow tracked down the Iwakagure shinobi. Rabbit slung the retrieved scroll onto her back, and Bear checked the Kirigakure shinobi over, making note of their faces.
Four, Sparrow signalled.
Two, Bear signalled.
One, Sparrow and Rabbit signalled.
Zero, Asuka signalled. Morning || Konoha Asuka arrived early at the small restaurant, since her schedule was clear for the next few days on account of prescribed houserest after her last mission. Overworking herself—that was the excuse her Anbu captain, Bear, had used when he sent her home for the week. Such was her general routine: a month or two of Anbu missions, then a week of forced rest before she returned for more. As a seasoned member of the Anbu corps, she could take as many missions as she wanted, so long as her performance met the mark. And since it always did, Asuka never stopped until her captain told her to.
She’d never understood why he cared, since her performance on missions was always up to par, but she’d quickly learned that there was no fighting against his “suggestions.” So, though she didn’t see the point in doing so, she accepted the intermittent weeks of emptiness, when her mind was forced off its usual track of jutsus, missions, and marks. Being sent home to the quiet little flat she paid rent for was never pleasant, though, since being alone with nothing but her thoughts to keep her company inevitably led her mind to wander back to times past—times she always wanted to forget entirely until she’d lingered and become wrapped up all over again.
The call from the head of the Konoha police, Sakaguchi Ryuu, therefore, had taken Asuka by surprise. As fruitless as she was sure their conversation would be, Asuka had let her curiosity drive her decision, which led her to where she sat now, watching as the head of police fended off a pair of young civilian women. Sakaguchi Ryuu had been a bit before her time at the academy, but she’d seen him a few times—even spoke with him—after she joined the Anbu, though only from behind a mask. Thus, this would be his first time meeting her, which suited Asuka just fine.
When the waiter led Ryuu to her table, she nodded, acknowledging him as he sat. As he settled in, Asuka waited patiently. He’d called the meeting, and he was going to ask the questions, so all she had to do was watch, listen, and occasionally give a response. She would have no expectations for the meeting nor what Ryuu’s investigation might uncover because the decade-old cold case had long faded into an obscurity that Asuka, even on low days, knew would likely never be dispelled. If she’d lacked answers then, she had even fewer now, with years of dust and faded memories to work off of. A buried urn of ashes under a inscribed stone marker was all that was left, and the dead didn’t speak.
Genkaku (“Illusions”) — Yin Release [Genjutsu]: creates illusions in the landscape that manifest as physical objects.
Shōmei kiri no Gensō (“Illusion of Lightning Fog”) — Water + Lightning Release [Ninjutsu]: allows Asuka to transmit genjutsu techniques through electricity passed through particles of water in the air.
Kieru Kiri (“Disappearing Fog”) — Yin Release [Genjutsu]: momentarily disappears something from the opponent’s senses
Mōmokuteki Moya (“Blind Haze”) — Yin Release [Genjutsu]: makes the fog appear blindingly thick for a moment.
Takarajima (“Treasure Island”) — Yin Release [Genjutsu]: shows the target their inner desires as to distract them.
France || Paris Proper || May 14th, Mid Afternoon After some more thought—as well as a glimpse of some of his fellow new trainers’ Pokemon collections—Camden realized that he probably needed at least two or more Pokemon before he started battling, and there was no Pokemon he wanted more than a Gothita, especially after his loss to one the day before. So this time, he wasted little time finding where he’d last seen the psychic-type, intent on finding the Gothita while the sun was still bright in the sky.
We’ll catch one this time, Camden thought as he scanned the streets. His eyes caught on a small Gothita emerging from behind a canal-side bench, and he looked down at Ruby.
“You ready?” he asked. Ruby nodded, trotting forwards to challenge the unsuspecting Gothita, but a small pebble smacked him on his cheek, intercepting him and giving the small Gothita the alert it needed to run away.
“You—from yesterday!” Camden said, eyes widening as the same Gothita from the day before appeared from behind him, its arms crossed. Ruby was at his trainer’s side in an instant, glaring at Gothita, who mocked a yawn.
“Oh, you’re going to regret that” Camden said, grinning. Sure the Gothita had been a bit stronger last time they’d met, but a wild Pokemon could hardly be expected to improve as quickly as a trainer and their Pokemon. “Ruby, start it off!”
Ruby nodded, spitting out a slew of Leech Seeds around the Gothita that sprouted as soon as they touched ground.
Let’s see how you like Morning Sun when it’s far from sunset, Camden thought, watching as Ruby prepared to launch a Tackle. Not to mention Ruby’s ability, Chlorophyll.
The Gothita didn’t seem too impressed with Ruby’s display, since the Cherubi was sticking to a similar routine. However, that was exactly what Camden was counting on: having won the last time, it’d underestimate Ruby—a mistake that would help Ruby bring it down, seeing as Paris’ natural sunlight was bright today. Though it wasn’t overly so, like the “harsh sunlight” described by the ability, the Cherubi would no doubt fare better that he’d had at sunset.
“Get him, Ruby!” Camden called when the Gothita prepared its first move. At Camden’s call, Ruby rushed forwards towards the Gothita in a quick Tackle.
@Balthazar007 so many decimals haha. I'll just keep as-is, seeing as my main focus is trying to work in the Ivysaur's evolution somehow.
// edit: also, are you deciding the NPC's teams? I want to have Camden challenge one, but it's a bit odd if I have nothing to go on, unless I just write a post about Camden's first move and leave you the dice roll before I write out the battle?
