Hye-Jin Kaneiko & Makoto

UA Dorms

Hye-Jin would sit up in bed and take a deep breath. [Earlier was a disaster... I didn't make any friends or even so much as introduce myself to anybody. I embarrassed myself at the gates and got drenched and I ran away from the janitor when they asked who spilled water all over the carpets... It was really not my finest moment.] Her thoughts we begin to spiral as a familiar avian friend fluttered in from the window. Noticing his presence, Hye-Jin would take another deep breath to calm her thoughts before raising an eyebrow. "And where were you exactly Makoto?" The familiar would trill and flutter around Hye-Jin, ignoring her question and encouraging her to get up. She would stand up out of bed, allowing the familiar to perch on her shoulder, its quick breathing indicating it was calm for the moment but filled with boundless energy. Hye-Jin would meticulously go about her routine getting ready, using it as a way to calm herself. She found comfort in the things she could control. She repeated affirmations to herself and practiced breathing exercises between frustratedly shaving her legs to daintily brushing her hair. A little touch-up would help her to feel better.

Just as she was about finished, she heard a voice, "Hello everyone I hope you are all enjoying your dorms and your time here. Just a reminder your classes actually start in 30 minutes today as it is the first day with a special start time, given so you guys can all get used to your dorms and your space this morning." Hye-Jin startled ever-so-slightly as she got up to peek her head out of the door. When she did, she saw none other than Moonlight and next to him, her friend, Sav. Her heart skipped a beat -- not sure whether to be intimidated and impressed by the pro hero outside her door or mortified that the boy she had a crush on was standing next to him and her hair wasn't even dry yet. Her jaw practically dropped as her gaze landed on her friend. Before she knew it a single word partially escaped her lips or rather... a name... "Sav--" she said as she quickly covered her mouth. Her familiar darted behind her to hide; turning into a small set of hands and a head that apprehensively peeked over her shoulder.

She tried to quickly duck around the corner, into her room, hoping nobody saw or heard her but, she wasn't certain how long she had stared or how loud she had said it and how quickly she was actually able to retreat. She sat, back up against the wall for a moment as mako took the form of chattering teeth -- making obnoxious clacking noises. In all of her haste, Hye-Jin had not yet realized, she had forgotten to close her door. It didn't matter, she was completely wrapped up in her own thoughts. [Did I really just say that!? I hope they didn't see me. Could that really have been THE Moonlight... with Sav...!? I must be seeing things... I'll just tell them it was Mako, yeah I can blame him. I'm sure it's fine. Nobody noticed a thing... right... oh I hope not...] her thoughts spiraled once more as she clutched her brush and remained hold up against the interior wall or her dorm room, door open, while she grappled with her internal panic and tried to convince herself she didn't just do something super weird.
Hye-Jin Kaneiko & Makoto

Tokyo, Japan 7 AM

Hye-Jin slowly opened her hazel eyes as the morning sun rose to greet her. She focused on her breathing for a moment as she reminded herself [Today is the day...]. As she ran her hands across her soft sheets, she took a careful moment to analyze their texture. [Soft... Perhaps some kind of silk blend...? Oh here's a snag.] She thought to herself. The sun slowly began to shift as her mind began to orient itself in the direction of getting ready. As a stray beam of light caught the corner of her eye, a tiny bird fluttered up from a small nest of stray fabric, tissues, and shiny knick-knacks in her nightstand. It was a hummingbird but, different. Its body was almost translucent and seemed to slowly and hypnotically swirl with a kaleidoscope of colors and galaxy-esque designs. The bird looked at her expectantly as it cocked its head back and forth. "Good morning Mako." she managed to muster with a weak smile as the bird began to gently but anxiously flutter side to side. She knew the familiar was urging her to get up and get ready. It was a reflection of her inner feelings after all and her inner feelings were saying she may very well be late if she doesn't get a move on. "I know. I know." She continued as she slowly rolled out of bed, her long dark hair frazzled from her slumber.

Hye-Jin got ready slowly and meticulously despite the bird's continued anxious fluttering. Her daily routine was something that brought her peace and she was more nervous than ever today. "I wonder if that boy will be there..." she muttered aloud as she made her way down the steps (hardly a hair out of place). Mako, the familiar, took to teasing her, forming a small human body with an obnoxious pair of lips as it smacked them loudly to mimic a smooch. Her face went red as she jerked her head in Mako's direction, the familiar quickly poofing into a small cloud of butterflies. "Stop it Mako. It's not funny." she pouted as it began to slowly form into a tiny cloud above her head. As she came across the table, her mother had laid out some food for her near the things she had packed before as well as a note. "Sorry I can't be there to see you off honey. I had to go to work. Just know how much I love you. I hope being at UA will teach you to believe in yourself as much as I believe in you. I will see you very soon. Mom." She would hold a warm gentle smile and hold the note to her heart for a moment as she grabbed her things. The familiar above her head would radiate a soft warm light and they would both be on their way.

UA

Hye-Jin approached the gates apprehensively. She lived closer than most and despite how late she thought she may be, she was clearly one of the first ones there -- a not so happy accident for her. As she gazed upon the imposing building and the gates attended by many robots, a lump rose into her throat. The cloud above her head began to turn dark and rumble ever-so-slightly with thunder. There was nobody there to copy, follow, or to be an example of what to do next. Hye-Jin was one of the first and this rattled her nerves. She walked tepidly towards the gates; clutching her papers close to her chest. "Name" the robot said causing her to jump. The thunder rumbled loudly this time. She froze as the robot asked again. She wanted to speak but the words weren't seeming to leave her lips. A faculty member would walk over, noticing her frozen in fear. "Let me take a look here" they would take the papers from her. "Kaneiko, Hye-Jin" They would hand the papers back as Hye-Jin's eyes seemed to plead for a less embarrassing first moment. "Approved, please continue." The robot would finish as she stepped forward, guided by the faculty member's hand. [Breath, just breath.] She thought to herself as she walked apprehensively forward. [You can't be screwing up on your first day here...] She continued. The cloud above her head now began to drizzle, the rain picking up and pouring harder and harder as her anxious thoughts spiraled. After a minute or so, Hye-Jin noticed she was wet.

"Stop that Mako!" she shouted as she began to swat at the cloud, her papers held close to her chest now soaking wet. "You're getting all of my things wet, stop!" The cloud released an angry crack of lightning shocking Hye-Jin's hand. "Ow!" she shouted, quickly withdrawing it and attempting to shake the pain off before gently sucking on it to soothe the burn. She looked up and let out a defeated sigh as she continued towards the building, a small storm cloud above her head soaking her to the bone. "Let's please just find my room so I can hide." she whimpered as the storm cloud continued to ignore her pleas. "I'm never going to make friends at this rate..." she continued onward despite her lament. "I really hope this day gets better..."
