Well, here we go. I'm not sure if I'll use both of these girls, or settle on only one of them. And I'm not sure I've got everything just right, appearance and magic-wise. But here's some things posted for review or whatever else. And the magical girl show i saw most recently was probably Flip Flappers.

The Next Morning

Saya awoke from nightmare-haunted sleep to get ready for school, as if it were any other day. Despite the night's events, she actually felt pretty good. Not exactly rested, but she still felt more energy than she had in a long time, and the little aches and pains of her everyday existence had disappeared overnight. She felt better than she had in months. It was with a spring in her step when she went about her morning routine and made her way to school.

"Shizuka~ Good morning!" She greeted one of her friends quite energetically.

"Good morning," her bespectacled friend replied. "How are you today?"

"Great. Like, honestly never felt better."

The small talk continued on the way to school, with Saya occasionally distracted by something seeming a little...off, but there was no way for her to really tell what that even meant. It was a bit of nagging that something she saw was amiss, but at a glance, that was it. Something saying in her head something was off somehow that she'd never noticed before. And bothersome as it was, she had other things distracting her from dawdling too long.

By noon that day, everyone has probably at least noticed one of the other new tagers. Even when not transformed, they'd be able to identify someone right away if they were in the same room, either by the same sense they could use to pick out anything inhuman, or the mental link that can form over at least short distances regardless of the form they take. It's lunch time, and that's the perfect time for classes to mingle or people to meet up in the cafeteria or elsewhere around the school building.
Will do, once they're closer to done. I can ramble in the discord probably better than I can here, so I'd like a link.
I might just work on both characters and then PM them out or post them just to get some thoughts on them.

Those are some good suggestions on magic. I was definitely considering some sort of shadow-based stuff for the thief. Probably either some amount of manipulating shadows, or teleporting between them. I think for the detective type I had some thoughts of some sort of supernatural awareness. Not sure how best to do it, though one thought was a sort of ability to sense everything around her in a certain radius. Analyzing weaknesses is definitely a good one.
Well, I did figure out how to do thief stuff without being too dark/evil. And I'm back at not sure which route to take. And still have no clue what sort of magic to go with regardless of other tropes, honestly. Well, I can give things a bit of time. Or i could do something crazy like make both characters and run them as a pair of rivals, but I don't generally play multiple characters to begin with.

Hey, you have blood. Why worry about that of your enemies?

And I'm not alone in that line of thought. Actually did a magical girl with a similar set-up in the past. She definitely had a potential weakness in using too much of her blood to form weapons or attacks that it would make her too weak to keep fighting.
I'll see what I can come up with. But I'm sure one will rise to the top as most interesting to me. The detective idea does mesh very well with being a magical girl, as she could probably use her work to help people in subtler ways, or track down things caused by Hydes directly and then fight them.
Hm, thinking about things a little more, I'm not sure how well a phantom thief or criminal type would really fit things. At least, hard to figure out how to build around stealing things as secretly helping people and defeating Hydes. So that route may be a bit harder. Certainly nothing wrong with a character who is using her abilities for more selfish reasons, though.
It'll probably take me a little while to cook up a character. I'll probably roll with the Sherlock Holmes idea somehow and either make an amateur detective or flip things around and roll a phantom thief type. Either way, it'll be fun. No clue whatsoever on the actual magical aspects yet, though.
