Drop nuke here?
Gamer, hate to break it to you, but plenty of groups, pagans, Christians, atheists and even muslims all have killed in the name of said following. People like to point fingers, forgetting that ya, there's other fingers pointing back, but at the same time, it's easier to point out other flaws. For a unpicked on race, lets look at the Native American tribes in North America, pre-Columbus. Peaceful? Everyone in tune with nature? Not even remotely. These people went to war against each other, practiced human sacrifice, even practiced genocide, in the name of specific lands. For these "peaceful" tribes were, they still had blood on their hands....or doesn't it matter, because they weren't killing others...just themselves off to appease a God that brought drought?
Oh, depending on who you talk to, i'm pure evil...but that happens. As for politics, it's all relative, depending on who you're trying to impress, get money from....after all, look at Obama. As soon as the powers that be threatened to pull funding, he "suddenly" had an "evolving" opinion on same-sex marriage. To spell it out, his buddies in New York, California and Mass all decided for a big stink, if he didn't throw his hand in. Conservatives have their own groups, but surprisingly, get more bad press because, well....the media put Obama in there....they don't want to lose their "imperial leader".
I'd have to say, i'm pretty much all over the spectrum, including a few off the wall ideas. Let's see, Conservative, because I'm pro-life, traditional marriage and a strong military keeps your enemies in line, progressive, because I believe in unions as a way to ensure workers are properly paid, and know that there are some incredible fat-cats on both sides of the aisle, ya, Kock and Soros both are crooks. I do also think there are a lot of loony laws out there, but as well there are more loony lawyers who make a lot of money off of people suffering, after all, how many people get rich chasing ambulances, besides doctors? I believe in the Darwin awards, and that they need to remove safety labels and let God sort out who survives and anyone dumb enough to juggle chainsaws should not be allowed to sue the company for his or her own stupidity. If you're smoking by a gas pump, you're an idiot, and if you blow yourself up, thanks....now we don't have to deal with your genes.
In terms of society, I think there is a strong lack of common sense, morals, ethics, values and behaviors in this day and age...ya, i'm old, but at the same time, we didn't have school shootings, rampant desire to legalize everything, and that if a car was backing up, hello, stop and wait for the car? Nowadays we see a generation growing up believing in entitlement...and it's frightening to wonder what the next 30 years will play out with.
Lastly, let's throw a major curve ball. Communism, if done properly, would be a good thing. How? Simple....Communism doesn't have a welfare state....you have to work, to eat. No work, no eat. No need for money...granted, communism isn't well-known for having a major use of lawyers or over-priced doctors...but at the same time, communism suffers from two fatal flaws: In communism, there is no major desire for people to better themselves...greed wouldn't exist, because what are you going to do, hoard food? Secondly, is that naturally people are greedy, and with greed, fosters a desire to do more....sometimes for good, sometimes for worse. Hey, look at what we did with airplanes, in the first fifty years that it was around? A rickety glider, to the ability to wipe out a city with a single bomb...scary, but that's progress.
My what a fun topic....I was expecting Separation of Church and state, and we're talking about tyrants and killers. Very well....
Vortex, I love a good debate on Communism, but trying to base one time frame against another doesn't quite do it justice, is like complaining that all Christians are evil. Funny, I didn't wake up evil, I didn't kick any cats, I didn't throw holy water on a demon....But it's kinda hard to ignore 20 million people being killed for their religion....that's Stalin's calling card for the Jews....and that's just him. Chairman Mao, in his efforts to liberate China from Chiang Kai-Shek, killed enough people to force boatloads to flee across the Formosa Strait, and almost led to world war three, with Eisenhower going to bat for Taiwan. Going on down the line, Ho Chi Mann, the leader of the Viet Cong had two simple methods for fighting, kill anyone who resists, and simply outwait armies from a long ways away, and their people will grow tired of fighting. France fell, and the US decided they'd had enough on two fronts....ya, the second front was a lot of liberalism and hippies.
However, you are right on one thing....The USSR didn't practice Communism, because in reality, Communism can't exist in a world with Capitalism. The USSR practiced Extreme Socialism, where you had a few wealthy elite....and a lot of poor people....hmm, sounds like the US. But in Communism, everyone is truly equal, and if you work, you get fed. there is no need for money, but there is also no desire to do better. the USSR did practice War Communism during World War two though, when it had to go on first the defensive, pulling back it's factories and defending cities like Stalingrad and Leningrad....and used lines after lines of unarmed prisoners to run German soldiers out of ammo.

But to be honest, I think what most of these leaders feared, from the churches, was people having an open mind....it's what people truly fear, is a person with hope. With a church, the Kremlin figured this was a place people could meet in secret, and for Stalin, this was not right. Stalin, in fact went out of his way, to indoctrinate children, by having them pray for candy...and having it "magically" fall from above, a miracle. But somehow, bibles, and hope, still got through the iron curtain.

Now, for a last fun point....why is it, that the country that used to be a beacon for freedom and rights, hates the church so much? Are atheists that frightened of Christians, they're afraid we're right? Do they fear we'll spread the truth? Are they worried they'll burst into flames? I don't think so....but it does seem odd to me, that if you have a room of 300 Christians, and one atheist, and if the one atheist is offended, the other 300 have to stop praying....where's the logic in that? if it works that good, does that mean if I go to say, California, everyone there has to become Christian? Don't see it happening.*smiles*
~Thanks to the given chaos of the runaway cart, Keyzer was able to penetrate further into town, as the commotion would give him some ability to simply blend in, be forgotten and figure out what was going on in this area. Seeing a variety of beings, part of his mindset was, he'd lost a bet with God, if he believed in the humans' garbage they'd been shoveling, but more simply, he was among normal folks...and stayed among the shadows. Watching the chaos settled down a bit, he listened to see if anyone could figure out what was going on, stopped a person walking by, and *persuaded* the person to talk...simple runaway cart, settlement...Keyzer let the person go, shuffling off mumbling.
She'll be ok in an hour or two..before setting up in a nearby alley, out of the way.
Still here
~Keyzer finally reached the edge of the treeline, closer to the town, watching as he went. It didn't help he had short legs, but working his way to the town area, he'd have to come out into public~
Well...at least apparently this is the land of misfit toys...
~watches for a bit longer, then slips from the trees, down a street, and tries to do a simple recon on the town, keeping a wary eye out for anything out of the ordinary, he also keeps an eye open for places of shade~
Sounds fun. After all, brothers fought on one side, the other fought on the other side...down to a single person...
Going to his locker, Scott looked to the right and left, then started trying to go through his books, trying to keep things organized. Off and on again, a book would phase through, thumping into the bottom of a messy locker, until he found one on physics, he then went to the library to study, as quickly as he could. it would give him an hour of time before the janitor would hurry him on his way.
