Not baking you a cake does not destroy order. Who gets to say what a legitimate reasom for enforcing conformity when no material concerns are involved? Society? Doesn't that defeat the point of non-conformity?

good point, So.
There used to be a day and age when stores could post a sign that simply said, "We reserve the right to refuse service", and by that standard, the only problem the business would have, is the loss of a customer. Of course, what still strikes me as funny, is why some gay bakers haven't stepped up to fill this void...just think, you'd had customers coming out of the woodwork, with a dedicated group of supporters.
~blinks~ "Call it as you will, misfit toys, we're all on the good ship lollipop...but getting dropped off in some funland....you gotta figure out how to get out, somehow."
~Looks around at a few of the others, then back to Shiro~ "Might as well ride it out, see what happens...no hoods and no rude wakeup calls though....hard on the neck."
~Watches the group mill around, introducing themselves, Keyzer waits a few minutes then mills around the selection of people walking around, figures can't cause too much of chaos with this group...does more listening than anything, but does think a good snack might help. Something about being kidnapped didn't help you get breakfast... he thought~
Nah, open-ended, mdk....all safe.
Of course, one big problem sits with this current batch of educators, who seem to either not want creativity to be explored, or it's held in such rigid conditions, that rebellion is not allowed...which then if a kid is unhappy, the system will look at it as something's wrong with him, not the school.
Also dates back to the way they first found normal....by looking at people in a mental institution, and then declared that anyone in here, was not normal...not what was wrong with them, mind you...but what was normal.
interesting perspective mdk. Ya, normal used to belong with the belief that you wanted to fit in, belong, and above all, don't make waves. Thing is though, even starting in High school and earlier, you saw that normal didn't work. Jocks wouldn't hang with gang-bangers, goths wouldn't hang with tech-nerds, and so forth. Sure, you might have the rare occasion, but a lot of it depended on the individual, and his ability to go against the grain.
Just remember eddie....smoke, bad....and if everyone else is running for the door either a: put it out or b: catch up.
Dervish, it can be looked at in two formats, as in One, are you Normal....and two, what defines oneself as being normal? I know everyone has the idea or image of a guy in a three piece suit, with a hat in his hand coming home from work to the white picket fence and a wife, two kids and a small cottage. Hey, America's dream. Unfortunately, either the dream does not exist, has been hijacked or there's a lot hiding in the closet. Mr three piece suit might be a hitman for the mob, the wife could be a trophy wife, but for anyone looking in, you'd never know...until the cops show up to arrest him for murdering someone and leaving them face-down in their cheerios. At the same time, I know some places, where the "alternative" has become more mainstream, blurring those lines. Sometimes, breaking normal is fun....after all, imagine a Raider fan, who is not drunk, a convict and not covered in tattoos.....or worse yet, is articulate, college-educated and polite in society. Who would have heard of such a thing?
Always a fun topic, good to rile people up, it's a simple question....are you normal?
First off, what exactly is normal? Is it a person who doesn't harm himself or herself, sits around, plays cards and watches reruns of Law and Order? Is it the guy who on Friday nights goes for leather, a riding crop and enjoys his sub for a couple hours? How about the loon who is thinking, in his mind he is doing a noble thing by taking potshots at demons, who are ordinary people, walking around on campus? How about the guy who is in a straitjacket, who might be rambling, but is running off the digits of PI out to the 127th digit?
Secondly, is it overrated to be normal? Can it be reached and should we even try to find it? Or is it like the prize in a Cracker Jack box, all the good stuff...then a trinket prize worth maybe a five cents, but that's my five cents!

Normal?
Um, the last time I tried to talk to people, I got a bag over my head, didn't have a safe word, and her name wasn't Jenny.
I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE.
