The morning sun was something all teenagers cursed, but on this particular sunrise Devin was especially upset. It meant he had stayed up all night reading and was only now realizing how tired he was. Closing his book and looking around his room he felt the magnetic draw to his bed start to take hold. He knew it wasn't going to work. Looking at his watch he realized he only had 2 hours before he was required to travel for the trip and he still needed to finish packing.

Devin fought the urge to go to sleep and instead pulled out a few more boxers and socks and threw them into his messenger bag. The letter told the students to pack light so he was given a bag by his wizard uncle who said that if Devin could fill it he would give him a new broom. Of course it was a magical bag and could likely fit everything in the house. Happy about the gift Devin started to take a little more liberty in what was needed for the trip.

An hour later and Devin was starting to get really sleepy. He ran downstairs and found what he was looking for. An ice cold can of coca cola. He didn't normally drink soda so early, but this was an emergency. "So this is what you are having for breakfast?" He heard his mother say.

"Honestly I would say you are as bad as your father, but we both know how much coffee he drinks." She said. She gave him a hug and then started to move about the kitchen. "I am so exited for you this is going to be amazing! That Professor Harsiesi may have finally found a way to make Magical History interesting. He is bringing it to the 21st century." Devin's mom started to make pancakes which was his favorite.

"I'll be right back I am going to finish packing!" Devin shouted after finishing his soda and running up stairs. Fifteen minutes later he was dressed and coming back down with his bag and everything else. "Did the letter say anything about what we had to wear?"Cause if not I think I am going to just wear jeans and a shirt..." His mom shook her head while the family of 5 sat down and had a fun filled breakfast. At the end the family cleaned the table and got ready to see their oldest off on his new adventure.

"I think it says you pour the sand over your head on you..." Devin's father was reading the sand instructions. For the last several minutes the goodbyes had been done and they were now figuring out how to work the sand. They unscrewed the top and handed the jar to Devin.

"You have water?" Devin's mom asked.

"Yea I had some at breakfast." Devin said with a smile. "Bye everyone. Love you!" Devin said and then turned the jar upside down and felt the sand pull him down with it. The sensation was weird at first and then started to get more and more prickly. It felt like a million ants were climbing on him and without a full physical body he couldn't scratch them off. He couldn't yell which is good cause he would have likely shouted at least several dozen curse words if he could. As soon as he couldn't see his family he started to see new images come into the light.

The light got brighter and brighter until he could feel his arms move again. The first thing he did was start to scratch himself all over. The itching was almost numbing with prickles shooting all over his body, "What is going on!" He shouted as he kept dancing and itching. Suddenly Professor Harsiesi ran up and gave Devin a glass of water. He motioned for him to drink it and as quickly as he did Devin felt the itching start to go away.

"Someone didn't read the instructions?" Professor asked in a mused tone. "Not the best start Devin." He then smiled and stepped back. "But you are the first to arrive and there are always points for those who are punctual." He smiled and then pulled back a rug to expose a long open hallway full of shops and people. "I would like to be the first to welcome you Devin to the Grand Bazaar. As you are the first to arrive we can wait in this small shop for the others to arrive. Please clean up after yourself as well." The professor then motioned to Devin's feet where he saw a puddle of sand.

Quick as he could he flicked his wand out and gathered the sand in the jar. Amazed by what laid ahead he decided to turn his attention to the store and looked for others to start arriving soon. There was a nice shop owner who came over to him and offered him some tea. Devin politely accepted and took a sip. 'Bitter!' he thought as he forced his body to accept the liquid.

"A spy should only worry when everyone else is smiling and they don't know why."

Name: Devin REDACTED Coal

Nickname/Alias: N/A

Age: 15 / April 2nd, 20XX

Gender: Male

Home Country:

Appearance:
Devin stands at about 1.65 meters tall with brown hair and matching brown eyes. With his active lifestyle he remains well toned despite a horrid diet. He burns his energy with rugby, cricket, and gymnastics. With his athletics and thrill seeking hobbies Devin has enough scars to make a war hero jealous. Sadly very few have interesting stories. Unless being a reckless teenager makes for thrilling stories.

Personal Information

Personality:
ESTP - Devin lives in the moment and is a very hands on learner. He has a pattern of dangerous behavior to himself due to being a somewhat relentless thrill seeker. He learns best from people who reach out as equals rather than superiors. If he is approached with a problem he jumps in to solve it rather than discuss it and potential solutions.

Devin is socially active with little in the way of insecurities meeting new people. He is goofy at times, but always polite. He has a a bad habit of of talking down to people when he gets upset or angry at them. Something he inherited from his dad. It isn't so much that he is talking down, but thinks talking slow will make the person understand they need to listen.

Bio:
Devin is the oldest son of Jason and Lisa Coal. Born in Vancouver, BC his family moved to Toronto when his mother got a promotion. As both of his parents are federal employees he got used to the public servant family lifestyle. This meant more often than not he was the one cooking for his twin little brother and sister. He also was the first and still only child of the family to get "the talk" regarding his parents real jobs.

At the age of 12 his parents missed dinner and breakfast one day. This absence made him worry more than normal as there had been no correspondence. Instead three large men arrived the next afternoon and told Devin he needed to come with them. They made it feel like he didn't have a choice when they flashed the same badge his dad had. Thirty minutes later he was at an unmarked hospital with more security than vaccines. At the end of the hallway was his mother getting prepped for surgery with a bullet still lodged in her stomach.

Devin confirmed that afternoon that his father was indeed in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Emergency Response Team. His parents never hid the fact that his dad was a cop, but they did hide the fact that he was one a member of the elite Emergency Response Team. It explained why he would sometimes be gone on 'work trips' or emergency calls into the office, but that wasn't the reason Devin's mom caught a bullet. That was for a reason all her own.

Instead of being a simple pencil pusher in the Canadian bureaucracy machine Devin learned that she was a team leader within Communications Security Establishment (CSE). Her unit specialized in counter intelligence operations which meant she hunted spies and this past mission got switched on them. Instead of hunting a mole it was hunting them and once they knew their cover was blown they escaped, but not before leaving a .45 resignation letter in Lisa Coal.

While Lisa healed from her wound the family healed as well. At first Devin felt somewhat hurt that his parents hadn't shared all these amazing things about their life, but as he grew up and talked with them more he came to understand why they compartmentalized their professional life from their home life. Then on his 14th birthday they both approached him with a small leaflet with the letters S.P.I.G.A.

I am sorry if I am blind, but where is the character sheet?
@RumikoOhara

No worries. IF you are talking about posting in the IC please wait until after Christmas. I put my post up because it would tell everyone how there character is arriving at the start of the trip. I will also be posting how my character arrives as well :)

Happy to hear you are feeling better.
@RumikoOhara

Very cool. There may be an opportunity to have her be involved. Though it does actually remind me of an old RP prompt I wanted to try where everyone played professors of the school rather than students. If you are interested maybe we could cook that up somewhere else on this site. I have a Care of Magical Creatures Professor from South Africa I wouldn't mind taking for a spin again!
@Loki Odinson

You are fine! I actually couldn't help myself and posted the first post already. This doesn't mean you have to post and I would ask for now we don't. That said if you are not able to post right at the start of the week we can possibly delay the long launch. For now I am fine working with you to make sure you can stay with the RP.

Professor Harsiesi walked down the great hall of Hogwarts with a kick in his step. He had just gotten an owl from his friends at the dig site in Egypt with the go ahead to take the kids on a very special trip. Granted the entire trip was special and considering how many forms needed to be signed for the trip to get the okay.

Turning past the final table he took a few moments to enjoy the complete tranquility of the school without students. Of course the place was better when full of children, but without the chaos and chatter it felt like a sober tomb to knowledge. It had been enjoyable to teach this year as a guest professor, but the entire year had been a trial of sorts and it left Harsiesi unsure if he was going to return.

“Are you ready Professor?” A voice spoke echoing down the halls. “After all the sands of time wait for few…” Standing at the center of the hall was the headmaster. He wore his standard robes and a warm smile.

“Yes I am headmaster. Have you come to see me off?” Harsiesi asked. He knew the answer was a two part, but didn’t pry. Throughout the year many of the students and other educators had asked for demonstrations of some of the ancient magic he was a practitioner of. He also remembered mentioning he was using a sand portal to travel back to Egypt.

As few used them anymore the headmaster's curiosity combined with the responsibility to see someone out of Hogwarts likely required him to see Harsiesi off. The two made their way to Harsiesi’s office where his messenger bag and several large jars of sand rested on his desk with names of different cities on them.

“So how does one execute the sand travel Professor?” The headmaster asked looking at the jars of sand.

“Rather old fashion really.” Harsiesi said. “Most of the sand has already been worked on by my friend. In the past these weren’t so much portals as they were escape bags. A merchants would use them to escape barbarians or sudden weather catastrophes.” Grabbing his bag and then a jar of sand he unscrewed its top.

“The sand only takes you back to where it was originally taken from. So this sand was collected from Alexandra” He pointed to the name written in the sand ” Where our trip will start. You simply take the sand and…” Harsiesi held the jar above his head. “Pour it over you. The sand breaks you down with it and by the time it all comes out of the jar you are traveling to the sands origin. Of course there is the itching…” Harsiesi paused and then quickly put the jar down.

“What itching?” The headmaster said with a sudden frown while watching his professor take several giant gulps of water from a glass. “Is there some sort of lingering side effects?”

Harsiesi laughed and shook his head. “O no it is nothing that sinister. It is just that if you don’t drink water right before you do it feels like a million scarab beetles are crawling all over your body.” He then put the glass of water down and grabbed the jar once more and with a single motion bought the sand up and poured it out over himself. A moment later the jar fell into a small pool of sand and the professor nowhere to be found.

“I suppose a house elf will need to clean this up…” The headmaster muttered.

Also there will be times where our characters will be interacting with non cannon magic and whatnot. During these times I am happy to assist if need be, but I am also completely fine with people inviting and creating their own magic as it relates to the ancient Egypt theme we have going. Happy to expand on, but for now just expect to see some new magic in this role play :)
@Peridot

Nowhere in your rules did you say we had to have a 100% completely original character sheet. I have never been strong at writing personality sections so instead I thought of taking a miggs bryers test with my character in mind and then posting the summery of what personality I got. Just taking the test took over 20 minutes so to say it meant I didn't care about the role play was not fair.

@World Traveler
Devin Coal:
While there are numerous issues with your sheet, I won't bother pointing out every single thing. The fact that half of your personality was simply copied from a personality website proves that you don't care about the rules, the roleplay, or putting any effort into your writing. Please don't apply again.

You said there were numerous issues with my sheet and I assumed that meant I missed more hidden code messages hence my original post.

I have reviewed every rule on this site and borrowing a paragraph doesn't seem to be written anywhere. The only thing I found after searching now was an issue where someone was plagiarizing during a competition which of course would not be allowed.

So there is my confusion. I assumed because at the start you said there were numerous issues that I had somehow missed another hidden treasure. From where I am I seemed to have been kicked out for breaking a rule that is not stated anywhere on your list of rules.

General Rules:
Standard Forum rules apply.
What I says goes. If I want you gone, you go. Please do us all a favour and not make a scene when this occurs, otherwise Mods will get involved.
Co-GMs are to be respected! While I have final say, they will be permitted to constructively criticise character sheets, call out bad behaviour, and prod people when they become inactive.
On that note, respect everyone in the OOC. I don't want bickering clogging up the roleplay. If you have a genuine problem with another roleplayer, please PM all of the GMS and let us sort it.
This is an apply roleplay! Do not post your finished character sheet in the character tab unless it has been accepted. Finished characters may be submitted in the OOC, or via PM to myself.

Characters & Posting:
No God Modding. Should go without saying, but you never know.
No Mary/Gary-Sue characters, self-inserts, or anything along that vein. I want some realistic, balanced and preferably original characters.
More rules in regards to character creation can be found in the character sheet.
I'll be looking closely at characters related to canon characters. It'll be unavoidable in some cases, considering how much crossover the Pureblood families have. Still, I'll be monitoring them and deciding as they come if I'll allow the relation or not.
I'm not allowing Half-Breeds at the moment, due to the likelihood it's only done to make a character more "In-Depth" or "Different". I'd prefer people to write their characters without using lycanthropy or distant relation to a gnome as a plot point or way of explaining why said character is so perfect/angsty/a loner/etc. That said, if you have a particularly good idea involving half-breeds, send me a PM about it with your finished CS. I'm not totally unreasonable.
I expect at least two well-written paragraphs per post. This is a Casual roleplay, so I expect correct English spelling, correct grammar, a use of complex/compound sentence structures and realistic character development. To correctly gauge your writing standard, I'd like a writing sample. The writing prompt and where to put the sample is somewhere in the first OOC page.
Please read all of the IC posts before you post yourself. You could be missing valid information or interactions with your own character if you skip them.

Here are the rules for this site as well.
roleplayerguild.com/topics/163267-fun…

I made one of your rules bold because I figured everyone should know that after you asked me to leave I did just that and didn't argue. I simply accepted and figured I missed a rule. In that annoyance I realized how many hoops I had to clear and figured it was just a change in community culuture. To blow off a little steam I posted here without mentioning you, your RP, or anything that related to you at all. After that you and your Co-GM jumped in and started to attack me.

So please can we leave this? I have already moved to creating my own harry potter role play after getting an idea from the character I made for your role play.
I am going to get started on the IC; however I would enjoy maybe having one more character. It would possibly work out with us having one Ravenclaw character and then we would have one person from each main house. If anyone knows someone who enjoys a good HP role play then we can get launched. If we don't get anyone by Christmas we can move forward all the same.

Note that I have my first IC post scheduled to be posted the day after Christmas so we will hopefully have this role play up and running before the New Year.
