Current I'll tell you what's wrong with society. No one drinks blood from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

History Fact: Caterina Sforza was a complete badass, who whilst under siege made a point of bombarding the houses of her enemies from the walls of her castle.

Working names for the Counties magic lores..

Lore of Balefire
Lore of the Eldritch Flame
Lore of the Starry Void
Lore of Thirst
Lore of Life's Shade

Decided to vary it from just one general "necromancy" school.
And, as I near completion, finally, a teaser character for you all.

Because I am a tease.

Primus Pilus Severus. One of the last commanders of the fabled legions of the Old Empire. Charged with, during the end of all things (as far as the empire was concerned) defending the passes of the north from the encroaching barbarians. Even as great changes rocked the dying empire-the coming of Grandfather Thirst was no gentle thing-even as cities died and burn, Severus and his legion held the north, until, seemingly, all lines of communications had been cut off, or were dead.

So. Severus studied. Severus learned. He delved into the baleful energies seeping into the land, permeating it. Changing it. And he discovered a new lore of magic. The Lore of Balefire. A red, pale, flickering thing, that gives off no heat, but burns all the same. That twists the world around it. Desperate, he gave himself over to this lore entirely-until, indeed, it's energies were the only thing animating his body...

Today?

Today he still follows his last command.

Hold the north. Come what may.
As for the counties rank and file..

"Our Empire is dead when WE DAMN WELL SAY IT IS! FORM RANKS!"
@Ophidian Got a nation name I can add on for you?

The Counties of Eastermark, good sir.
Work continues.

Lil' tidbit. I'm breaking somewhat with Warhammer and modern vampires with my take-I like some aspects of both, but I'm arrogant enough to think I can do better.

The true form-the primal incarnation of what they are, for my vampires looks something like this:

But their primal isn't the only side of them-or humanity. So they do have much more human forms. Both of these are, in a sense, their "true" form. Each vampire might default to a different one, depending on their natures.
What happened next happened damn fast. Thankfully, Hannibal's training had already kicked in and he was able to respond efficiently to....in order...what initially appeared to be a shrieking creature emerging from behind a trashcan. His rifle went up-and then went down when said creature turned out to be....well, a vault dweller from looks of it. Guess he knew where that bloody noise came from. Violence seemed to follow anyone wearing a vault suit around like a dog pawing after it's master.

He sighed. And now he had a panicky vault dweller on his hands. Liable to get him a bullet in the back if he left it unattended.

"M'am." He called out, slowly, calmly. "I ain't fixin' to hurt ya. You're from one of the vaults, right?"

I am ashamed you didn't make a Bloodborne reference

That actually brings me rather excellently to what Grandfather Thirst IS. Imagine a bat. Then make it....more. Wings that make gales with each movement, eyes glowing with balefire, a great, shadowed maw....then the hunger. Give this beast of your mind's eye a hunger, a thirst, so great, so palpable, it twists the world around it. Men? It makes into vampires. Without even attempting too. Other bats? Become great, giant fliers, or groundbound beasts? Wolves? You know what it does with wolves.

And then realize the beast described above is simply as close as the human mind can come to perceiving the thing, it isn't the...truth of the thing. It is something primal. Something old. Old and strong strong strong.

Where did it come from?

....

A good question.

"Before there was time. Before there was anything... there was nothing. And before there was nothing... there were monsters."

Basically, this song sums Grandfather Thirst up:

And that's how vampires are made kiddies~

(this is pure lore, I'm not bringing Grandfather into the game proper as a unit)

So..the origin of my vampires ad a race.

...probably make a good cover for a metal album.

Involves a certain entity known as Grandfather Thirst.

Clearly only good things ensued from said entity.

Ha.
<Snipped quote by POOHEAD189>Damn, those are pretty strict laws.
My Duergar (or Yngvarians as they call themselves) reject the ancestor gods and rather revere the god Yngvi (their name Yngvar would roughly translate as "protected by Yngvi") but said god never did anything openly to them. They are also far less honor-bound and not picky in their clients to trade with. They might be also infamous for their mercenaries that travel the world and lend their services to all takers.
So yeah, while not glaring opposites like the Chaos Dwarves they would be perhaps considered by your people almost just as bad.
Hence their name as Duergar.

Mercs you Say...

Let us take tea.

I know the solution that problem:
