So much rainbow love, my God

Posted guys and also updated the roster. The assembly won't last much longer just waiting on a few more intro posts and then we can move on
“Best way to describe Duncan? He’s like ice. Cold, transparent yet cloudy at the same time”

Those were the words used by his instructor back at the Naval College when Headmistress Pryde first approached them about recruiting Duncan. That was eight months ago but the word still rattled around in his head. Duncan was one of the few students who didn’t have a home to go back to during the schools recent vacation period. His family was dead, parents gone, grandparents gone, everyone was gone and strangely the young Scotsman was ok with that. He didn’t want to be taken wrong, Duncan loved his family but live a life as he has since their untimely passing and you realise that living and dwelling in a dark past is not the way to go. Dunc lives firmly in the present, absorbing everything around him in the hopes of the betterment of his life. Yet, he still could not shake those words. He made friends easily, he was accessible, a bit aloof sure but he wasn’t hard to talk to…or was he? The words had to have some merit to them right? Duncan had yet to fully grasp the concept and that in itself was more terrifying than many other things in life; the lack of understanding.

It was a warm day outside and Duncan wasn’t one to stress about his fashion sense. He walked into the auditorium dressed in dirty blue jeans, white trainers and a form fitting sunburned orange t-shirt that showed off his strong physique. His powers made him unnaturally strong but that didn’t mean that Duncan had to welch on his training. He attended Naval College for a reason, he wanted to get fit and he wanted to serve.

He was one of the last ones in the auditorium so Duncan ended up on the front row. He looked down at his left hand and watched the little violet glow of his veins evaporate.
Before entering the room, he had made sure to build up his power reserves with a bit of an intense workout. In Duncan’s mind, you never knew what could happen, especially with this schools prior reputation. He folded his arms and leaned back in his chair as the headmistress addressed the crowd. The boy next to him loudly chugged a bottle of water. Obviously he was new. A little grin appeared on Dunc’s face as he hear Danny, who sat on the other side of the boy with the water, do is usual shtick about recycling. The boy didn’t look like he was listened.

“Don’t worry, Danny. If he doesn’t recycle I’ll break his wrists” It was an idle and sarcastic threat but the new boy didn’t have to know that. Danny knew Duncan well enough to know that he wasn’t serious and was just playing around with the newbie. There was something inherently fun about watching people squirm.
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

So, the first IC post is up. Let me fill you guys in on the blanks and what happens next.

The school has been open for about 7 months. The IC begins with the students returning after a short vacation, most of them have been there since the school reopened some others are just arriving (so if you want your character as a new starter you can). Now, every student is currently in the auditorium listening to Headmistress Pryde speak. Don't worry though, just imagine she's speaking when you guys are posting and then once everyone has posted, we'll end the assembly and the real stories can get going.

The X-Men currently don't exist, the faculty have yet to decide which students to recruit for the new team.

Strangely, it felt like only yesterday that Katherine Pryde was walking into this very office as a fresh faced teenager who had recently learned she could walk through walls. Now thirty three and married, the world had changed for Kitty. The man she loved was half way across the world helping the less fortunate in a humanitarian effort to rebuilt towns and villages. She was getting broody and really wanted some children of her own. Many of her friends had all but disappeared from her life and her hero was dead. Kitty raised her pretty doe eyes upwards from her desk and turned to look at the beautiful portrait that hung on the wall behind her. Professor Charles Xavier, her hero and the mutant leader that inspired generations to be the best version of themselves that they could be. Professor X died for his cause and now Kitty sits in his place, Headmistress of his life’s work. She could only hope that she was half the person he was. Getting to her feet, she straightened out the figure hugging black dress she wore and stepped out of the office. It was time to welcome the students and faculty back after a few weeks’ vacation. It had taken well over a year but Kitty had managed to salvage what she could and rebuild the X-Mansion and if she did say so herself make it better than before. As she walked through the halls to the auditorium, she looked at the young faces of the students around her. Some, looked like any other young teen would. Others weren’t as normal. Some were scaled or furred, bright yellow eyes, fangs. None though felt like outcasts, they were safe here. This mansion was a haven. Kitty entered the auditorium and stood behind the red curtain where the other faculty members had gathered. Some of the faculty were quite young, others were pretty old but all brought something unique to the table. “Everybody ready, let’s welcome these kids back.”

Upstairs, Armonía had arrived hours earlier in secrecy and silence, heading to her old room. As a child and teen at the place she had her own room. Single rooms were usually reserved for staff and special case students but she was given a pass, told that it was for all of her art and music tools. As of recently, she knew that it was because she was a special case child. She remembered nightmares and waking up to having set the bed on fire, her body having become a laser. But after regaining her memory months ago she began to slowly come back to herself, finding her happy medium. She had initially denied Kitty's request to return, feeling that she wasn't ready. But when her old friend dangled the possibility of seeing Alfredo... She had to accept. Perhaps he was the key to her centering herself completely. Her old flame had always made her feel whole in the past and she needed to apologize anyways.

Slipping into a pencil skirt and a tight button-down tank top, she paused to look st herself in the mirror. Knowing the truth behind the scars that she once hid in shame made her see them differently. They were a sign of her strength and endurance, showing how far she was willing to go to protect her people. She was proud of her scars and the people she saved. A smile on the tattooed beauty's face, she slipped in a few piercings on her face and headed downstairs with bare feet. "Miss me?" She smiled as she snuck up behind her friends and tapped Kitty's shoulder. The Head Mistress turned and smiled, sweeping her friend into a hug. "Welcome home. Good to see you showing some skin." Her mood lightened a bit but the woman turned back around soon enough and headed for the large and ornate double doors.

Of course he had slept in. Typical Freddie. Rolling out of bed, the young man quickly flicked his wrist and the can of deodorant on the other side of the room flew into his hands. Some days he loved being telekinetic. He sprayed the contents of the can under his armpits and tossed the aluminium roll onto the floor and moved to the wardrobe to get ready. Being the phys-ed coach meant that he didn't have to dress as formally as the other teachers, he could settle for pants and a polo shirt which he very much preferred. The top was tight and showed off his thin but muscled frame very well. As he dressed, Freddie was subconsciously applying toothpaste to his tooth brush in the bathroom. Once he was dressed, washed and looking somewhat presentable, he took one last look in the mirror. Nia was downstairs so he had to be careful. Despite mastery of his abilities, Fred still had a temper and the loss of control could be devastating. Taking the deep breath, the Sicilian opened the door of his bedroom and hurried down the hall and stairs towards the atrium. He managed to slide in with the other teachers as Kitty reached the double doors. "Hey Freddie" she didn't even bother to turn to greet him. For someone who wasn't psychic, the new headmistress sure did know a lot. With icy blue eyes he looked at Nia who stood off to the side, he offered a slight courteous smile. They'd have to catch up later.

Kitty opened the doors and began to welcome the students as they all filed in and took their seats. Most of them had joined the school when it re-opened six months ago. For others, this was their first day at mutant high as some might call it. There were mature students, teenagers and some were even younger. Looking at their faces, even with all other past experience, Kitty still found it hard to believe the amount of power and sheer danger that now existed in that room. Closing the doors behind her, the young woman silently wished for her husband to appear out of nowhere but she knew that would never happen. The room fell silent, the only sound was the click of Kitty's heels across the wood panel floor. She stood up to the podium and offered a smile to the line of teachers behind her before she looked towards the crowd. "Hello, for those of you who I haven't met yet I am Katherine Pryde and I want to be the first to welcome you and welcome some of you back to the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngers. Welcome home, everybody"

Want to point out really quick before I hop off that (I'm excited to start, hehe, but that's not the point) I'll gladly discuss any pre-existing relationships with Harley and their character(s) via PM, if anyone wants to shoot something by me. Nothing too serious, though, as he's not keen on opening up to anyone unless they get particularly close, and even then it'd take more than a nudge in one direction to convince him that it's safe to take a relationship further. That is, if I read the opening post correctly. Uh, I have this small inkling that it everyone's maybe a newcomer, possibly, but I don't want to assume anything, so I'll simply ask the question that I should have asked prior to posting this. Has the Institute been open for a short time (year or two) or are our characters the freshest students it currently has? I'll reread the post again to see if my memory hates me or if I missed something.Yeah, never mind. I doubt you'd have a 'Relationship Status' section in the CS if some of the characters weren't already enrolled for some time. @_@ My offer still stands, then, to discuss any possible pre-existing relationships with Harley.

Yeah, just to quickly answer that for you Six, the school has been open roughly six months to a year. So, if anyone wants pre-existing relationships they can discuss them here

So is this actually taking place during Age of Apocalypse, or is Apocalypse just running around being a general douche bag?

No this isn't set during the Age of Apocalypse.

Name:
Duncan James Pearce

Codename:
Guardian

Age:
18

Place of Birth:
Lucerne, Switzerland

Occupation:
Student

Family:
All Deceased

Relationship Status:
TBD

Mutant Ability:
Kinetic Energy Absorption Duncan is a mutant with the superhuman ability to absorb kinetic energy and to metabolize it to enhance his own physical strength, speed, and stamina. This makes him extremely difficult to defeat in battle, as every blow struck against him only makes him stronger. Unusual tactics are required to defeat him, usually by incapacitating him or by attacking him psionically. Duncan absorbs the energy of any blow he is struck by, not just punches, but also projectiles like bullets, and to a less successful degree, electricity and physically based energy beams. Without absorbing energy, Duncan is merely a strong ordinary human, though normally he works to keep his strength at a superhuman level. For example, in one instance, he was shown to spend time hitting a wall after waking in order to build up his power reserves.

Personality
Duncan is a unique individual. He appears to be of sound mind and strong spirit. Like most who lose parents in their youth, Duncan has abandonment issues. He rarely makes long-lasting relationships with men or women. He professes to have never fallen in love. He maintains no friendships from before his parents’ death and only the most irregular contact with friends from his late teens. Duncan is not nostalgic, but lives firmly in the present. He has only vague notions or thoughts about old age and retirement, which he does not seem to think he will live to see. He enjoys pushing himself to the limit, both mentally and physically. Duncan's stress levels actually drop when the stakes are higher. He is prone to boredom and mild depression when not challenged. He has strong interpersonal skills. He can act comfortably in many situations, but does not seek out companionship except, most notably, for sexual recreation. Duncan's lone wolf personality-type tends to attract others.

He is goal-oriented, but he often seeks these goals in an indirect and secretive way. He has kept many areas of his life meticulously compartmentalized, never allowing the emotional issues from the loss of his family or from relationships to intrude on his professional life. Duncan seems to have an emotional and mental need for multiple layers of reality. He thrives when not revealing all of himself, carefully organizing the aspects of his personality he reveals to others. Thus Duncan is excellent at burying information he does not wish to reveal, making him a very good security risk if questioned under almost any circumstance.

Extremely solitary, he does not console himself by surrounding himself with others. His athletic pursuits tend to be solitary: running, skiing, hiking, swimming, diving, and climbing. Most importantly, Duncan is deeply loyal to institutions. After his parents' death, he embraced his British and Scottish roots. His concept of his nationality is a large part of his identity. This is reflected in some of his social attitudes, which seem to embrace a British identity of the not too distant past. When pressed, Duncan seems to identify with the notion of helping to "protect the realm", or "serving the monarch" and the ideals embodied in the mythic notion of St. George.

History:
Duncan Pearce was born an only child in Lucerne, Switzerland. His father Andrew Pearce of Dundee, Scotland was an officer in the Navy who was stationed over there. He met his future wife whilst over there and the two had a whirlwind romance that resulted in marriage and Duncan. Until the age of eleven, young Duncan lived in Switzerland with his parents until tragically, they both died when the train the young family was on derailed. Duncan survived only by the timely manifestation of he would come to know as his mutant ability. After being treated at the hospital with only minor injuries, the young boy was sent to live with his paternal grandparents in Dundee, where he was privately tutored in order to adjust to the English way of life. He then joined the public school system a short time later.

After graduating from the local school at the age of 17, Duncan began attending the Britannia Royal Naval College. While there, he excelled in all areas of training. Duncan matriculated from his coursework at BRNC with passable marks. However, whilst excelling at athletic competitions, strategic operations, and counter-intelligence courses, his unconventional approach to his education, his diffident attitude to some of his superiors, and a lack of respect for curfew drew him many demerits. On more than one occasion, a fellow candidate was strongly suspected of lying to protect Duncan from punishment. In his later teens, he lost both of his grandparents in the span of a few months.

Duncan’s exceptional skills and seemingly impossible physical capabilities for a boy his age, caught the attention of one of his instructors. This instructor put young Duncan on Kitty Pryde’s radar, he was recruited a short time after.

Extra:
- Duncan’s ambition in life is to write the next great novel of a generation but nobody is aware of this fact due to his solitary character

Constantly updating the cast list guys, so keep an eye out
You're more than welcome to jump in Six, don't worry

Name:
Alfredo “Freddie” Benito DiAngelo

Codename:
Pressure

Age:
24

Place of Birth:
Isola delle Femmine, Sicily, Italy

Occupation:
- Teacher/Coach, Physical Education

Family:
None Important

Relationship Status:
TBD

Mutant Ability:
Telekinesis Freddie is classified as a first-class high-Level telekinetic. Before the mental blocks on his mind were unlocked back when he was a student, he was able to telekinetically move, levitate, control, and manipulate solid matter, people, and inanimate objects with a mere thought. He can use this to various effects. He is able to fly, create small gold-coloured telekinetic shields and barriers, unleash incredibly powerful blasts of telekinetic force and, freely control and manipulate several objects from a distance. Since his powers are mind-based, it means that if he's unable to concentrate or form a thought, he's unable to use his powers. This also means that most of his powers are controlled by his emotions and can often get out of hand if he gets angry enough, causing nearby objects to explode or random telekinetic bursts to happen, even sending things flying depending on how passionate he's feeling. Often, the telekinetic pressure surrounding Freddie can become so intense that it effects the surrounding area/objects and people as if gravity itself had cranked up to 100 times the normal amount.

Personality and History:
Alfredo DiAngelo was the second of three children born to Benito and Apollonia. He has an older brother Tomaso and a younger sister Carmela. His family originated from the small town of Isola delle Femmine on the coast of Sicily. The DiAngelo's lived a somewhat idealic life for a while until Benito's past came back to haunt him. One day after finishing work, Benito had just picked up Tomaso from school when they heard an explosion. Rushing to the source, the two found their home ablaze and Alfredo standing outside watching it burn. He was eight years old. Later that day, Benito put his children on a boat to America and headed out to find his wife and daughters killer. He died that same day from a gunshot wound.

Arriving in America, Tommy and Freddie found their way to Baltimore where they began their lives anew. Tommy had to teach Freddie English and took a variety of jobs just to pay the bills. When he came of age, Freddie too began work. It was these early hardships that shaped Freddie's personality as a pride filled, blue collar worker. Trying to stay out of Baltimore's drug trade, Freddie managed to enroll himself on a boxing program and got into high school after missing out on a year due to his work commitments. During his high school years, Freddie displayed a great intelligence but didn't possess the drive and ambition to reach his potential. He believed that people from Baltimore could never achieve their dreams. Eventually, Freddie's brother Tommy began to work on a fishing boat which paid good money but meant he was away from home for nine months of the year.

One thing that stood out about Freddie was his temper which was incredibly volatile. After a fight in which he put a fellow student in the hospital, Freddie was going to be sent to juvie because he had no one to care for him (his brother was away on a fishing season). This was until the timely intervention of his school coach who said he would take care of the young man if he joined the basketball team. In the Summer period before school would start, Freddie got into another fight and it was this incident which triggered his mutation. During the fight, the young man’s rage caused things to levitate from the ground and pin people to the ground. Terrified of what he was doing, Freddie packed a bag and fled Baltimore. He made it as far as New York where after yet another fight, he was recruited by Professor Xavier shortly before his death.

After the destruction of the institute shortly after his graduation, Freddie set off on his wandering ways again. Eventually he got the call from Kitty to return to the newly rebuilt mansion as an instructor, needing a bit more direction in his life, he took up her offer and is back at the institute for the first time in six years.

Extra:
- Freddie has HCM (Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) A heart disease which causes certain parts of the heart to thicken. This disease once caused Freddie to go into cardiac arrest during a battle.
