Jason Connor

Waiting on the champion to show up at the league building was perhaps the most tedious part of the entire day, even for someone as patient as Jason. But eventually, they did all move forward and that was enough for him. Following the League's Head Administrator down into Professor Kopac's lab, who the young man made a mental note as being incredibly rude since, as he understood it, this was partially his idea, and paid attention to everything that was said, making yet another mental note to get his parents numbers before he headed out to find some caves or something. Accepting his new partner after the professor finished explaining the Pokedexs, he wasted no time in letting his new friend out of the Pokeball and couldn't help but smirk when the Ralts appeared. He took a mental snap shot of the Champion's face so that if he ran into her in the future, he'd remember who she was and then put his attention on the Ralts.

Bending down and looking at the small Pokemon, he nods. "Well, first question for you little buddy, are you a guy?" The Ralts took a look at the human in front of him and then gave a small nod.

"Ralts." Nodding back, the young man pats his partner's head and stands up, and looks at the others before deciding on a name. He didn't speak it out loud yet as the Professor dismissed them. Man, I really hope I don't need to talk to this guy that often, guy's nothing like Professor Birch was before I moved back in with mom and dad... Glancing at the others before looking back at his new Partner, Jason beckoned to the Ralts and they headed back out of the lab and up to the main floor. "Alright little buddy, I'm going to name you Slayer, because you'll slay the competition once we really get the ball rolling. Is that OK with you?" The Pokemon looked unsure at first and then, after a moment's consideration, gave a happy "Ral" and nodded agreement. "Fantastic. Glad to have you as my partner Slayer. How about we go explore the nearby woods?"

Nodding enthusiastically, Jason chuckled and returned Slayer to his Pokeball before heading back towards his house to get his camping and spelunking gear, as well as add his parents' numbers to his new Pokedex before he set out on his journey.

Spartan Lucas Ryker

All Lucas could think of as they made their way up the slope to the outside world again was that this was incredibly reminiscent of more than one mission he took for ONI back in the war. Not that he was surprised, they were presently on what was more or less a black ops mission. Though from his conversations with ODST and marine vets, the overall feel of this was more common for standard UNSC missions than they want to admit, especially for the Hell Jumpers.

Once they reached the top though, his DMR was on his shoulder, watching the cliff edges above them the best he could in the still raging storm. When there was mention of making sure the Keep didn't know about them, Ryker grinned. "You have at least two members of Aegis trained in assassination and covert obstacle removal here. Once we can see the cannons, give myself and Infiltrator 'Masam a few minutes and we can do both."

Infiltrator Comi'Masam

Following behind the commander, Ryker and the Commando as ordered, Comi came out just in time to hear what Lucas said and nodded. "Aye, we could do it, though if there are more of us that are trained in the skillset Infiltrators use, then the more the merrier. Honestly, this storm is good enough cover, our sniper equipped allies could remover any guards higher up and leave us to clear out the lower area without concern."
Spartan Lucas Ryker

The heat from the explosion caused the SPARTAN-IV's shields to flair, but it wasn't enough to break them fortunately even as he fell backwards from the sudden lack of resistance from the plant as Tar rejoined them on the platform. Standing up quickly, Ryker pulls his DMR free of it's place on his back and fired on the now exposed weakness of the Tengmaa. "Burn in hell, you crazy, carnivorous freak of motherfucking plant life." He fired most of his clip into the thing before stopping, taking a moment to see if the hail of fire had the desired effect as he quickly swapped out the clip, six rounds still in it for later.

Infiltrator Comi'Masam

The moment the explosions were done, Comi drew her plasma pistol once more and fired into the bulb with the rest of her new team, stopping her barrage just in time to allow the weapon to cool down before she resumed firing another burst. She would repeat this until the order to stop firing came from Vael. Her energy sword remained active and she would use it to lance out at and slice any vines that got too close down, though with the wounds inflicted to the bulb made their efforts weaker and less concentrated.
Infiltrator Comi'Masam

Lunging forwards ahead of Lucas, Comi's golden blade slashed in an arc to remove the remaining vines grabbing their mission commander, her plasma pistol firing to the point of overheating keeping new vines from taking the place of those she had cut away. A peppering of pistol bullets bought her some time to cool the overheated weapon, but she ultimately holstered it to activate her energy dagger and cover Commander Vael's back that way. They would need to move fast the way these vines were going, but she couldn't help pull the Commando back as it was all she could do to keep them free. As if to emphasize this to her silently, a pair of vines nearly pull the Infiltrator off of her feet before she can cut them off.

At this point, Ryder was no longer standing still and he was doing everything he could to avoid the vines and still help his teammates with their less than favorable situation. "Beginning to think we should have waited out the blasted storm!" They weren't equipped or even prepared for a fight like this and the longer they were here, the more impossible it would get. All the same, when the chance presented itself, a couple moments later, he dove in to help pull Tar back up up on the ledge, straining against the vines with all his might.

Nodding an affirmative to Commander Vael at his order to move forward, Lucas took his position and moved with the rest of Aegis Squad, storing the pistol and activating his singular energy blade on his wrist, the blue glow adding to the light from their mission commander's own blade. Silence reigned as they moved forward, with the occasional sound of someone lashing out to put a troublesome vine out of commission. However, the sight of the flower in its lair drew a little bit of disgust from him. "Well that's...something."

However, the sound of vines rushing towards them drew his attention to their surroundings and he quickly slashed down a pair of them that got too close before storing his flashlight and drawing his pistol and firing rounds into the vines he could see going for Aviza, thankful for his silencer . "We should really go, like, now. Or blow the thing up, but we need to make a choice."

Infiltrator Comi'Masam

Playing rearguard was normally boring, but with the vines trying to stealthily snag them and drag them away requiring the use of her sword arm kept her warmed up and aware of her surroundings, so the increase of the potency of the smell around her only served to raise her alertness level and, sure enough, the cause came into sight, the heart of the Tengmaa Plant. Even as her SPARTAN-IV friend spoke, her golden blade was lancing out in curving arcs and cutting down several vines. "I am in agreement, Commander. Whatever the plan moving forwards is, we need to carry it out soon."

Spotting a vine about to get Grikgar's ankle, her plasma pistol comes out and fires three times, putting the vine out of commission. "Watch your six, lads and lassies, this thing won't be fightin' fair."
Spartan Lucas Ryker

Ryker doesn't notice the smell thanks to the filters in his helmet, but does hear Tar's comment Grikgar and sighs quietly, shaking his head. "That storm is still raging and we can't get to the target in time if we leave them here. Like it or not, we're going to be stuck in this cave one way or another." Pulling a flashlight out, he turns it on and shines it down into the darkness of the cave. "

Looking around, he tries to find a section of the cave that wasn't covered in the Tengmaa's tentacle-like vines, but he couldn't see anything, and he wasn't overly eager to venture any deeper than he had to. "That all said, I'm OK with facing winds over murder plant any day."

Infiltrator Comi'Masam

The sudden scent of one of her favorite childhood dishes filling the cave almost immediately put the Infiltrator on edge and she rests her other hand on her plasma pistol in response to the plant's attempt to lure them in. "I have decided that I greatly dislike this plant. I will follow whatever our commander decides however."

Spartan Lucas Ryker

Glancing back outside, Ryker mentally kicks himself for not bringing a shotgun and puts the butt of his DMR to his shoulder before reconsidering and stowing the rifle in favor of his pistol, which would work better in the cramped corridor of the cave. "We still need a way to deal with this Tengmaa to move forward though right? The Spook makes a point, anyone bring a flamethrower or some kind of fire weapon?"

Infiltrator Comi'Masam

Comi kept the glow of her sword focused on the vines around her feet, stomping on a smaller one that was trying to be sneaky about moving to wrap around her ankle before glancing at Ryker. He and the ONI agent both made good points, they could not safely cut through the tengmaa with their energy blades if there were toxins involved, especially as many of the team did not have sealed helmets, if any helmet, on them. "Perhaps we can manipulate the tengmaa to move itself? Though Commando Tar'Mdalak is the most knowledgeable in this situation."

Spartan Lucas Ryker

Once all the Spectres had stopped moving, Lucas went to hop off his chosen ride, the one with Commander Vael, until he heard Tar's warning, which prompted him to immediately withdraw his foot from the ground. "Nope, not tempting fate today, not even a little bit. I can handle Covenant remnants and killer animals, but will hard pass a killer plant every time." He remembered during one deployment during his days in ONI black ops that they'd watched an entire patrol of Brutes and Unggoy get slaughtered by some kind of living plant thing and he'd avoided similar situations ever since. However, as he glanced at Comi on the Commander's Spectre, he grimaced behind his helmet and stepped down anyways due to the look of shear disappointment on it. "Fine, fine, good god..."

Infiltrator Comi'Masam

After giving a facial compellation to get her Spartan friend off his ass, she drew and activated her own energy blade, the elongated outer guard, along with the soft golden color of the blade, marking it as starkly contrasting to standard energy blade designs. "Commando Tar'Mdalak, is there anyway to discourage the Tengmaa from attempting to constrict us?"
