Taiyo remained stoic as his duel disk lit up, forming the solid light field in which he would play. He pulled his five cards, placing them into the special slot on his duel disk which he could examine each one.

He grabbed one of the cards, and revealed it to his opponent.

"I active the effect of Archfiend General. By sending it to the graveyard, I get to add a special Field Spell from my deck to my hand..."

He slid the card into his graveyard slot, and the duel disk slid a card out from his main deck. Taking it, he looked at his opponent with a knowing look. He then chose another card from his hand.

"Next, I summon Skilled Red Magician. This spellcaster has a history with the Archfiends, and I'll be sure that you find out why." As the card was placed on the field, the crimson robed spellcaster took shape.

"Now for the card I added to my hand and I hope you're familiar with. I activate the Field Spell, Pandemonium!" He placed the card he had drew from his deck into his Field Spell Zone.

The holographic imagery around them was then immediately influenced by the spell card, changing the scenery to a far more hellish and intimidating place.

Taiyo didn't seem phased.

"I'll take this time to let you know about Skilled Red Magician's effect. Should a Spell Card be activated, I place one Spell Counter on this monster!" One of the many gems that had been adorned in the magician’s robe let off a strong red light.

"Next, I activate my Swords of Revealing Light, holding your attacks at bay for three turns and placing another Spell Counter on Skilled Red Magician."

Three swords of pure light descended from the sky, blocking off the two duellists as another gem lit up on Skilled Red Magician.

"Finally, I play my Allure of Darkness Spell Card. Banishing a Dark attribute Monster in my hand, I draw two new cards. So I Banish..." He turned his final card in his hand around, revealing his fiendish Monster.

"My second Archfiend General!"

As the card was removed from the game, the Archfiend enthusiast drew two more cards. And smiled as the gem atop Skilled Red Magician’s staff glowed a bright red.

"Now, as I'm sure you've noticed, I've played three Spells while Skilled Red Magician was on the field, giving it a total of three Spell Counters. And now you'll see why that's a number to be feared. I activate Skilled Red Magician's effect."

The magician morphed together in the form of red light, before it began reforming into a much more menacing shape.

"By sending Skilled Red Magician with three Spell Counters to the grave, I can Special Summon one Archfiend monster from my deck, hand or Graveyard, so I call forth the first true Archfiend, a master of lightning and terror. Rise from the abyss, Summoned Skull!"

As Taiyo sent the monster from his field to the Graveyard, a card was displaced from his deck, which he immediately placed face-up on the field. A white skeletal figure joined by fleshy areas formed from the red energy, small sparks of electricity coursing around its body as a infernal croaking followed the lightning lord's summoning.

"To end my turn, I'll place one card face down." Sliding into his Spell and Trap Zone was a single card, leaving one remaining in his hand. "Your move."

The harsh voice made Taiyo flinch, turning towards the imposing figure. Another student, albeit much more aggressive, that had challenged him to a duel. With Archfiends.

Normally Taiyo would want to decline, so that he could inspect his opponent's play-style and create a counter strategy. But he knew Archfiends. He knew them well. But he had never heard of this Archfiend Reverse. An archfiend card and a Synchro monster no less.

He wanted it.

But he would not duel for cards so easily. Perhaps his opponent was better than him, he didn't yet know. But there was only one way to find out.

More confidently than usual, Taiyo slot his unchanged deck into his duel disk, holding it high.

"I assume you're challenging me then... I accept Akaza Tsunozuka. Prepare to duel!" Taiyo said without a hint of the normal anxiety he displayed. All of his nervousness washed away at the very thought of dueling someone with the same archetype. He was calm, determined, and even feeling a tinge of competitiveness. He wanted to win. He was going to win.
As Taiyo had risen that morning, he made sure his Duel Disk was fully charged and deck fully formatted. Each class was interesting, but nothing he hadn't learnt himself before. Still, he made notes in his notebooks, as a reminder was always appreciated in his eyes. As the day went by, he was wondering if anything as major as the first day would happen, and just as he began to accept the fact today just wouldn't be as interesting...

His duel disk screen lit up.

...

"-dates for these new mechanics have already been uploaded to each of your duel disks!"

After the message was played, Taiyo was left speechless. He had heard that a new version of Duel Monster was in development, but he didn't expect it to come out so soon. The existence of Link Monsters was new to him, and due to his reliance on the extra deck, he would probably need to incorporate them into his play style. But the fact that veteran duelists would be arriving at the premise excited him more. The idea of dueling someone with far more experience would definitely help him learn.

He'd be sure to keep a lookout for anyone on campus who looked like a visitor.
@KOgaming

That's awesome! I won't have him get a Duel Runner yet, but maybe after Turn 3. As for Speed Spells, I'll hit you up about it later!
@Scarifar

Not much. Just been readying up for Turn 3.

Hi, by the way.
Sweet, can't wait to see where this goes.

@KOGaming

Also, I wanted to quickly ask. While Taiyo currently doesn't have one, I was hoping that at some point in the future Taiyo would acquire a Duel Runner. I was just wondering that, seeing that Pandemonium wouldn't be able to be used due to Field Spell, if it were okay to make a few Speed Spell cards for the Archfiends? Like, mostly just converting already made ones into Speed Spells.

As Matt went on, Taiyo immediately scribbled down his interest of the Apple of Discord card in his notebook. 'Any card of chance?' So he must use anything relating to luck and bolstering it. He remembered using similar strategies when he used the original Archfiends. He would have to make a note of that.

As Lua declined his duel offer, Taiyo nodded in understanding. Now that the topic was about cards, he was less nervous. Cards were definitely something he knew a lot about.

"I didn't find my card. My brother gave it to me."

Taiyo picked up his Archfiend Cosmocrat and placed it back in his deck, before laying it close to him on the table.

"It's the main reason I run Archfiends. Using the gift my brother gave me I've won a lot of duels. It's the only thing I'm really good at. Though I'm not sure how I'll fare in this school. Hopefully well."

So many new names to learn... Matt, Hyun Gu Leum and Murasaki Lua- and that Rumi person, someone with good food, he'd have to remember that. All fellow duelists. As soon as Lua gave him the go ahead, Taiyo grabbed the deck in one hand, ready to flip through the cards, but stopped as soon as the girl showed off her card, glancing over to it to read everything about it. As she extended her hand, he quickly placed his own hand in hers and shook, smiling anxiously as his handshake was rather shaky.

Looking at the card however, he noticed his deck's top card seemed to just... radiate a small amount of pressure. Placing Lua's deck down for now, he pulled up the most treasured card in his deck and deciding to talk in response to Matt and Lua.

"Y-yeah... the original Archfiends anyway. The cards I use are mostly the newer ones that don't cost life points... N-nice to meet you both by the way..."

In response to Hyun's action of showing her card, he showed Archfiend Cosmocrat to the group placing it face-up on the table.

"Like this one. I've never had to use it, but it's definitely my strongest card."

With his most treasured card face-up and in sight, Taiyo nudged his deck towards Lua for him to look through, almost like a trade as he once again picked up the other deck. As he began flicking through Lua's deck, a surprised look overcoming his face. It was a collection of extremely old-style cards, some of which he hadn't even seen in person due to the lack of them in anyone's decks without it relating to some sort of archetype. He stopped for a moment seeing Apple of Discord and Necromancer's Circle. He even took a very long pause at the Lone Savage Space Warrior as it came up. None of these cards he had seen before. He quickly placed the three cards down, and looked at Lua as he pulled out his small notebook.

"That's a very interesting deck. Not sure what to say about it... It'd be interesting to duel against."

While speaking he was quickly making up a poor sketch of Lua's face, while writing down the effects of the three cards he had that he had never seen.

"Hey, what house are you in Lua? I'm guessing Dark Magician..."

He then turned to the fusion holder, quickly sketching her on another page and recording her card as well.

"...And are you Neos house?"
@KOGaming

Sorry I took a while for my response. I was busy for a few days.
As for what to do next, I dunno! Maybe just have classes. Or pair people up in dormitories. It'd be nice to see who our characters will be forced to interact with on a daily basis.

Also, are people still allowed to join before Turn 3 starts? Just asking because I might have a person in mind who might want to join in.

Taiyo quickly found himself surrounded on all sides. Beside him left and right, and on the other side of the table were three other students. One stayed silent, the one with the charming voice from the food line. The other two he had not seen before. A chubby girl with a nice set of well-chosen clothing and an innocent looking guy introducing himself as he placed his deck next to his.

Taiyo felt very out of place surrounded by so many people interested in him, and his deck. Despite his anxiety, he felt compelled to greet them.

"M-my name is Taiyo Hoshimi. I-it's a pleasure to meet you... all... Uh, please call me by my f-first name..." He said with a quick nod of his head as a very brief bow.

With the introductions out of the way, his eyes drifted to the other boy's deck that he had placed down on the table too. He almost wanted to just pick it up and look through it, and examine this child's play-style and strategy right there and then. But, restraining himself, he quickly pulled himself together, turning towards the girl.

"A-archfiends, mostly... what about you? And... this deck. Murasaki Lua... do you mind if I...?"
