Some of the Phantom Thieves, Mao, and Braum all seemed on board with the forming plan to destroy the statues and see what happens. If nothing works, they’d kill Phalanx. If killing Phalanx and destroying the statues didn’t work, they’d probably piss off some ancient nature God and be cursed to never travel across moving water again or some shit like that. But it would be better than leaving empty handed without having tried everything.

Everyone seemed ready to go, the social momentum leaning strongly towards immediate action. Jesse decided to try her shot at pulling the reins in. She had no authority over the group, and she wouldn’t hold it against them if they moved now. Still. Sometimes a dissenting voice in and of itself could be useful, even if ignored.

“Hold on, guys.” Jesse held up a hand. “It’s probably best we play it cool for now. We have no idea what’ll happen when we break these things. If it fucks with them up there, that’ll be on us. If it unleashes some giant monster on us, the party’ll be split.” Jesse said. “I don’t think we’re pressed for time. We should wait for the other half of our team to come aground before we make any executive decisions.” She said.

“Don’t accidentally break it, either. It’s extremely fragile.” She added with a slight smile, glancing up at the statue. Any one here could break it with a flick of their wrist. Literally, in Braum’s case.

Certainly after her solo debacle involving running off without letting anyone know, Jesse wasn’t eager to repeat the mistake of splitting the party anymore than necessary. It was unwise to make any moves in this World of Light without being fully prepared to face the consequences. Normally Jesse would be half-way done breaking them by now, but just like when she was with her Rangers, she couldn’t afford to dive ahead. Other people’s safety was at stake. It was one thing to put herself in danger for the hell of it, another thing entirely to put others in danger without their consent.

Jesse watched Raz climb up on the statues. “Yeah. I think they’re holding up this big ringer. I’m not exactly sure how upside down bell physics work, but if these statues broke I bet they’d make a big noise. Maybe something magical would happen.” Jesse said with a shrug.

Raz voiced his doubts about killing the monster. “Honestly kid, all I know about that monster is that it matches the description.” The Director said. “We have to kill the champions. I don’t know how we tell what is or isn’t a guardian, or how we got the description in the first place or who knows what a guardian looks like.” She rolled her shoulder, a habit of hers.

“All I know is some secret organization made of enemies of Galeem are apparently backing us Seekers up. And apparently a lady told us what the Champion looks like.” Jesse said. “I just hope I backed the right horse. I’m kinda wingin’ it here. Not like that’s anything new for me or anyone else.”

Jesse squinted up at Phalanx, spotting the tiny dots of the Seekers on top of it. Once again she took in the expansive scope of the bell, and the very long walk she would have to take to get to the center of it and it’s ringer. It was a very big bell. One could fit a city inside. Jesse looked at the statues holding up the ringer again. If she squinted, she could see more around the rim. What would happen if they broke all of them and let whatever they were holding up fall? Her desire to help was matched by her curiosity. This World of Light was full of wonders. Even just a little while ago, she encountered a mysterious monster that the others had missed. She’d have to tell them that story later.

“There’s a non-zero chance this entire bell is an Altered Item of some kind. And if I know my boss fights, sometimes you have to summon the boss. Or maybe the boss of this area is just a weird floating snake that doesn’t do shit. Or maybe the giant snake is going to get really really angry and power up if Midna and the others mess with it. I really don’t know. In my experience it’s best to just go for it and see what happens. If they kill that giant snake and nothing happens, we should ring the bell and see if an even bigger monster comes out.” She had a very casual attitude about the whole thing.

Sakura followed Rika, Kamek, Link, and Bella. The more she and the others committed to this little trip, the better she felt about it. People always said Sakura had a lot of energy. Besides, she thought, it might feel weird to just go straight home after fighting and killing a giant horrible monster. Maybe she needed time to wind down first! Mentally. Like an epilogue, almost.

“Man. Can’t believe all that really happened. That was so crazy.” Sakura said, brushing some of the leftover dust off her skirt. “It was really hard. And we lost people. But we did win. One step closer to stopping Galeem.” She managed. "We beat one boss in two days. Two are done already. At this rate, we’re only like, eighteen of adventuring away from winning? Or twenty, I guess, since we’ll have to destroy Galeem too and that’ll probably be a whole thing.”

“Who knows? Maybe everything will go back to normal once we beat Galeem.” She said as they walked back into the cave. “And the people that are gone will all… come back to life.” She scratched her head, wondering if she really believed that. But the thought of what would happen AFTER they beat Galeem hadn’t really occurred to her too much. All she knew was that the World of Light was the shiniest, biggest, and most beautiful hellish prison in the world. A place where she tried to kill someone as close to her as Ryu.

“I just hope all the other Abyssal Princesses can…get out of this.” From what she had seen, almost all of them were just people trapped inside bodies and mentalities they had no control over. Victims as much as anyone else.

“And don’t forget to check on New Southern.” Sakura said. She sighed, pondering the vastness of their situation. It wasn’t just vast, it was unbelievably compact. This whole world was squished together. Nothing had room to breathe. Even the long distance she had traveled, from one side of the World of Light to another, had only taken a couple months. That was nothing. It was all just…so much! Fortunately, Sakura was pretty good at handling heavy things.

Sakura watched as everything exploded and stopped. And that was it. Sakura’s shoulders dropped and she let out a long, low sigh of relief. She wiped a tear from her eye as she saw the tar recede and the hands reach up to the sky. There was still a sense of wonder as she saw all of these impossible things. Even if it was tampered by how she had gone to a relatively normal teenage girl to a battle hardened veteran over the course of a day and a half.

Elation of victory plus bad times. Sakura didn’t know how to feel.

She watched, worriedly, as Geralt decided to take the spirit into himself. It was either that or let it come back and have to kill it all over again later, so they didn’t really have a choice. While she didn’t mean to be selfish…no way was she taking that thing into herself. No freaking way. She didn’t want to be a giant ugly crazy old baby. She’d rather fight it all over again than do that.

Much to her delight though, the changes weren’t drastic at all, and Geralt seemed the same as usual. If anything, he looked a little more normal now that he wasn’t cartoonishly giant. Sakura gave him reassuring side hug and skipped on over to Link’s side.

Infact, she would offer hugs to anyone who would accept it. Add +1 Sakura Hug to your inventory.

She considered Blazermate and the Koopa Troop’s ideas. “As much as I would like to get straight back to Limsa…” Sakura began.

“Oh, man. I want to get straight back to Limsa. Alright, Link, Kamek. I’ll come with you two guys but we should seriously make this quick. I want to sit on a freaking chair.” Sakura said. She hadn’t even had the luxury of sitting on a simple, comfortable chair. With that small bit of complaining out of the way, she followed the wizard and the hero on their quest to measure the stability of a newly liberated region.

"It's like we're the United Nations or something." She muttered under her breathe. She paused as Link briefly considered Delsin's sad spirit. The fact that he didn't get revived after all broke her heart. And the street fighter wasn't sure what to do with the spirit, either. Personally, she only took Arashio's spirit as a spur of the moment decision to help people. Thinking of a living person, an ally, as an upgrade didn't feel right at all. Rubbing her elbow, she seemed relieved that Link thought to just keep the issue for later.

Jesse could tell what Tora was thinking. “I mean, no shit, big monster.” She said. She nodded over at Poppi. “Thanks. I just wanted to be sure.” She looked at the giant thing and the great, precarious heights around them. This was quite a lot to take in. Jesse imagined it would be colder.

She watched as an airborne contingent of their troupe zipped off to do battle with the Guardian stone serpent. Evade made avoiding fall damage easy as long as she had some Energy, but it was nowhere near as efficient or as reliable as Levitate. She decided to let stay grounded for now and let them take a shot at the great beast. With an unsure wave to yet another fucked up old-timer she followed Primrose and her new friend to the great bronze statues holding up the ringer of the inverted bell.

She ran a hand along the oxidized bronze. It reminded her of the Statue of Liberty. Before Midna teleported away, she vocalized her suspicions about the situation. "I guess I just thought the Guardian would be guarding something more obvious. Like a big treasure vault or something. Guess it's not an archetype." Jesse knocked her knuckles on the bronze statues.

“Well. If we want to make a lot of noise, I could no-collide these statues and bring the ringer down. See if it actually, uh, rings. Maybe it’ll do something magical.” Jesse pondered aloud to Primrose. “Or I could find a high spot and start taking pot shots at the big monster and see if that helps anyone.” She approached the edge of the walkway and peered over it, the toes of her shoe hanging over the edge. She whistled appreciatively. Somebody somewhere put a lot of work into this thing. And now it’s been cut and paste into a random mountain top in the biggest fruit salad any dimension ever knew.

Skidding to a stop, Sakura turned and watched the headless creature fall, burst, and die. She had crushed right through. With the help of her friends, the thing was practically on deaths door, and she had shoved it over the threshold. She felt...strange. Hollow about it. The thrill of victory hadn't reached her heart. They'd lost people. Some permanently. But was that really it? Surely, their deaths weren't for nothing?

Sakura skidded back over to the beach and sat down on it, holding her face in her hands and listening to Peach's speech. "Is it really over?" She asked quietly. She dropped her hands and stared at the grainy sand below. "Doesn't feel like it's over." As mentions of the missing spirit was brought up, Sakura began to really suspect they were missing something.

And they were. Because now a hand-faced, chest-eyed, black tar giant showed up and flooded the entire beach with ooey gooey.

"Whaaa-?" Was all Sakura could say, utterly baffled. Instinctively at this point, she went to activate her harness. It pushed her up slightly but her sneakers were still caught in the muck.

"Huh? No way!" She cried out. Still, Sakura was no sloud when it came to wading, and she just pulled and struggled until she reached higher, solid ground. "Gueehhh...yuck!" She said, the liquid absolutely drenching her socks and sneakers.

She looked back up at the mammoth creature, awe struck once again into inaction. It felt like sizing up to fight a skyscraper. And worst of all, it had minions. Flying jelly fish. Nadia and Link pulled some insane stunt that bounced right off. "What IS that thing?! What are we going to do?!" She shouted on her little island.

"Hadoken!" Using her special anti-air fireballs, she blasted at one of the jelly fish. Both the fireball and the jellyfish exploded. And the creature did Sakura the favor of detonating all of the other jellyfish around it as well.

"That's something." She said. They were settling all over the field. Worst than that were the hovering golden humanoids that were making their way towards the Seekers with malicious intent. Sakura's lips tightened and she levelled a cannon at the enemy.

Click.

"Ehhh?!" Sakura wailed, staring at her gun in disbelief. "Out of ammo! That's possible?!"

Just past the eyeline of her gun, a figure emerged from the tar. A familiar shape. It was a lady from the Azure Navy! Baffled, Sakura turned around to see what the others thought, only to see several of them getting similar visitors. Geralt, Nadia, and the others. Thinking of the Azure navy, her eyes briefly fell on Bella. She whirled back around to the ghost.

"A-arashio-san?!" The spectre underhand tossed a cartoonish looking ammo box her way. Sakura reached out to catch it, but when she did it vanished, and she felt her cannons become heavier with ammo. "I- I don't know- I'm sorry-" Sakura began.

Arashio swept a hand towards the oncoming missiles as if to refocus Sakura's attention on the incoming projectiles. Then she began to sink back into the tar, back to wherever it was she was now. "Arigato!" Sakura called out. Not just for the ammo.

Then she turned and pulverized a golden specter out of the air only a few meters away. The shards showered her as she turned and focused fire on the other golden humanoid projectiles. Protecting her teammates with these cannons that she borrowed for one last fight.

Jesse scrambled to the fountain, scooped up a glowing ferrystone, where it activated in her grasp. There was a flash of magic, disappeared. From the middle to the bottom to the top.

With the port crystal place, the haggard director re-appeared with Yellow Team. Alllll the way at the top. She looked around, saw everyone, and swore, running her hand through her red hair. "I am... so fucking sorry. I got distracted." She apologised, taking a moment to take in her new surroundings. Including a quick head count of the Seekers. "Glad to see you all survived without me. Glowing with health, infact. Maybe I was just slowing you down."

Including yet another weird, tired, beat up looking old man. And another giant monster. Definitely fit the description of the boss monsters she had seen so far.

"I'll uh, fill you in later. Is that it?" She asked, squinting up at the flying serpent. "How can we know?" The Service Weapon appeared in her hand.

Sakura’s big brown eyes opened with a start. Her health erupted back up to a startling 100%. For a moment she looked at Bella and Peach and the whirling Kamek clones around her, who pointed their magic wands quite redundantly at her now. Normally there would be some residual pain to push through, but their magic had taken care of that. Sakura felt brand new! Though her body had used up the energy required for this get out of jail free card. Regardless: It was time for Round Two.

Bella was looking quite upset that Sakura was hurt. Again. The street fighter wondered when she would break the news to Bella that Sakura professionally blocked punches with her face. For fun. Maybe later.

Sakura wrenched herself from the earth she was pummeled into, sitting up. “I’m fine, I’m fine! Let’s go!” She shouted. She pushed away and dismissed any hypothetical protests otherwise, scrambled to her feet, and ran back into the fray. The Orphan was near the beach now, and her allies were laying into the foul beast. One after the other, the monster couldn’t seem to rid itself of their onslaught. It’s ticket had been punched. It’s short, violent life was about to come to an end.

Sakura moved around the side, skimming over the ocean’s surface to get a good angle on the creature. Link, Geralt, Cadet, Hat Kid, and everyone was mustering the full might of their powers. The monster couldn’t catch a break. Sakura was eager to play her part in the chain. Seeing the masters at work got her blood pumping. Time to end this. It was all going to be worth it. They just had to win.

Sakura’s getting knocked unconscious had lost her V-meter, but her EXTRA SPECIAL Meter was ready to go. Taking big hits meant she just had a better chance to do a comeback.

As she got closer, she noticed something she had missed. Blazermate had marked some kind of weak spot on the creature’s neck. Had that been there the whole time? In all the particle effects, Sakura must have missed it! Time to take advantage, while the creature was distracted with her monster hunting companions. Geralt, Link, and Cadet. The three guys put together had slain more epic monsters than Sakura had eaten hot meals. With them coordinating their strikes, the Blue Team couldn’t lose! Sakura leaned forward and skimmed faster, circling around behind the meleed creature. Sakura took her opportunity right as the shadow manifestation if Mimi returned to its owner.

As the Orphan swung wildly, the street fighter leapt cleanly over the 360 swipe. The sweet features of her face were stretched by the precise killing intent she now possessed. She planted her feet cleanly on the back of the creature and kicked off of it, doing some stomp damage and back-flipping even higher into the air. At the apex of her retreating leap, she span once again. For a brief second she hovered there, in the air. Then, pushed by her internal ki alone, she shot towards the back of the monsters head.

“You’re through!” She shouted. With a vibrant flash, she drilled a flying kick into the back of the creature’s neck, where she saw Blazermate's critical marker. There was a sharp crack and bright flash, like a heavy firework, as the kick connected. Sakura’s sneaker would either thrust deep into the back of the creature’s neck until she bounced off. Or her converse sneaker would crush all the way through like the lance of an airborne cavalry charge.

The fight was hectic and fast paced, but Sakura was feeling like the tide was turning in their favor. Ace was a terrific monster hunter, and Hat Kid was the best support a group could ask for. Geralt's strength and precision complimented her speed and power. Whenever they engaged the Orphan at the same time, she felt like it didn't know what to do. Constantly it had to leap away, fleeing from it's attackers at any opportunity. Now it was just a matter of keeping the pressure on. "We got it on the run!" She shouted. It was almost time to put this horrible scenario to an end.

While everyone got scraped or clipped, the monster was getting the worst of every exchange. Rika's whale was destroyed, but Sakura was there to take advantage. "EAT THIS!" She leapt up and brought her fists down on it's forehead. For once, the creature was forced to respect her strength, and staggered away. Sakura flew up from the impact and landed. "You felt that one, didn't you?" She said.

As she turned, expected to be covered by her teammate, she instead saw the mighty creature become a one armed artillery shell, disrupting the entire battlefield. From the flying debris erupted the monster, reaching out for her. "Tch!" Sakura said, narrowing her eyes and lowering herself into a crouch. Cat tail on end, she dodged nimbly to the side, and- "Wha-uk!"

Her right arm was snatched. The sudden movement felt like it would pull her arm out of her socket. For an eternal moment she was face to face with the creature. Sakura's eyes were wide with fear and confusion. "N-no!" She kicked her legs, and grabbed onto the creature's wrist. But the moment passed, and her world became a blur as she was slammed onto the ground. "Ungh!" She grunted, her eyes squeezing shut. Barely had her body stopped bouncing was she pulverized into the mud by the creature's massive weapon. A direct hit.

"UAAAH!" Sakura screamed. She curled inward, spasming, before relaxing and slumping back into her Sakura shaped hole in the ground. Unconscious, her face was contorted in a grimace, her chest rising and falling with audible gasps and exhales. Needless to say, she was senseless to Bella's horror, the explosions that buffeted her clothes with wind, or the scrap and gunk that pooled around her impact point and got into her hair.

If any healer's could monitor her vitals they would probably notice that even now she was subconsciously doing something. Her vitals were hovering, moving up and down at their low point, in sync with her breathing.

As the creature screamed and span, Geralt and Sakura battled the creature with all their might. Finally Sakura felt like she was getting a handle on how she was supposed to fight this thing. It was all offense and no defense. The only thing that was required was proper timing. Which was FAR easier said than done. Sakura rolled, hopped, and dove to the side of several swings, but the creature caught up to her as she hesitated, wondering where it would swing from next. The creature screamed towards her, swinging violently. Sakura crossed her arms in front of her. Instantly they were bloodied as with a bright blue burst, she was sent sliding and tumbling backwards from blocking the blow. “Guh-a!” Still, it was much better than if she had been caught mid dodge or especially mid jump.

As Sakura rose to her feet, the creature leaped to another location. At that time, Geralt’s horrible two-headed monster healed her by whipping itself. “Um... thank you? I think?” Sakura said, grimacing. Nonetheless, the cut across her arms restored themselves, and the stinging in her back and inner thigh also lessened. Other than that, she felt fine. But that was the thing with Ki, it was either defending her, or it wasn’t. It was easy for Sakura to feel totally fine until a single light jab hit her like a truck and sent her down. So easy that Sakura had forgotten about it now.

As Sakura prepared to get back into the fight, the creature leapt up the cliff side to reach Ace and the others. “Watch out!”

And then she realized that she and the others were the ones in immediate danger. “Oh- WATCH OUT!”

The loss of Quen's shield in the exchange with the Orphan was unfortunate but ultimately an inevitability in a battle as heated and protracted as this. The worst part, however, was that Geralt knew he'd be stretching himself too thin to re-cast the Sign at this moment, having both summoned the Judicator moments before and blasted the Guardian with Igni during their fight. Being able to do both so quickly was heartening, and he was hardly at the end of his stamina, but he'd need to gather himself a little before putting the necessary energy into Quen. He couldn't half-ass the amount of energy in it like Igni or fluctuate the power flow like with Axii, Quen was an all-or-nothing, front-loaded spell.

As the Orphan jumped off and threw its explosion-creating projectiles rearwards at the Seekers, Geralt cursed and ran for it, calling out to the Judicator to attempt to move as well. Thanks to his size, he was able to avoid the brunt of the explosion with long strides, even having the time to scoop Sakura up in one of his massive arms as he ran, covering her from the shockwave with his armored back. The Judicator was less lucky, and while its size and resilience allowed it to survive the explosion, Geralt felt the bodily ache that the transferred damage gave him. In its last moments, the Judicator made up for its failure to avoid damage by flagellating once more, providing a burst of much-welcome healing for Geralt's aches before its time ran out and it vanished.

As Sakura prepared to run, suddenly she was scooped up by giant Geralt. “Oh!” She exclaimed, hanging on tight. She passed by Nadia and Bella and gave them a drive-by peace sign. Even with the loss of Delsin, Sakura believed whole-heartedly that Kamek could fix this whole mess. All they had to do was keep fighting.

“Are you okay, Mister Geralt?” She asked as she was set down. “You didn’t have to do that. I’m fine, really.”

Geralt gave a shrug as he turned around. “Easier for me to take 5 steps than for you to take ten.” He replied, not seeming bothered at having carried a near-full grown woman while at a run.

Once he realized what the Orphan was doing, Geralt cursed as it climbed the rocks and made a beeline for Ace. Rushing in with his sword drawn, Geralt neared the rocks just as the Orphan leapt in the air, tossing another barrage of placental grenades towards the ground.

Eyes widening as the blobs of pink flesh flew towards him, he spun his sword and held it to the side, free hand coming up to draw the Sign of Quen in the air. Between the moment of pause he had and the Judicator's healing, he had to have enough in him to pull it off. Anything less would result in quite the unpleasant scenario.

Holding the Sign in its Active form as the sand and flesh exploded around him and battered his shield, Geralt grit his teeth and pushed a little more power into the magic of the Sign. While it rendered him completely and utterly unable to act against their enemy, it also prevented what Geralt could only assume would be quite a bit of damage.

The last of the explosions shattered the shield, and Geralt dropped the flow of power to the shield, sand and putrid flesh falling onto him from the remnants of the bombs. The Witcher, perhaps for the first time that the others had seen, was well and truly winded, hands falling to his knees as he drew in large breaths.

As Sakura looked up on the cliff side where the others were doing battle, it took Sakura a moment to realize what the creature was thinking of doing. To be honest, seeing the Orphan hesitate and strategize was very unexpected. “Guess it’s not such a baby after all.” Sakura said flatly as the thing exploded the entire cliff just to send the boulders their way.

And then, the rocks barely twenty feet ahead of him exploded, launching shrapnel and chunks of stone through the air at an...oddly sedate pace. Not slow enough that they wouldn't do any harm, especially not at the size of rock that was blasted free, but Geralt had time to rise to his full height and bat aside a smaller (in comparison to him, at only about a foot in diameter) rock with his blade, though it took a noticeable effort to do so. As a more voluminous barrage descended upon Geralt, he forced himself to the side, only being clipped by a single rock, which spun him a bit but left no more than an aching bruise through his size and armor.

Once again Geralt moved to intercept, but Sakura wasn’t helpless! Geralt looked winded from all his spell slinging, anyway. Sakura figured it was her time to step up. Defiantly, she slid between his lengthened legs and gathered up blue energy between her hands. ”HADOken!” She shouted. The fireball was slow moving and wide, as tall as Sakura was and angled slightly upward. It burst every time a rock hit it, knocking the other shrapnel aside. As the fireball exploded for a final time, it cleared the air of the first wave of flying debris. Only more (slightly slow moving?) rocks came her way, and Sakura once again brought up her trusty defenses. She swatted and blocked them, the rocks bouncing or breaking against her with dull thuds.

Seeing the giant fireball moving upwards and batting aside some of the rocks that had come close to hitting him as he dodged, Geralt hummed appreciatively. The help was much appreciated, and as the larger rocks from the explosion arrived, the pair managed to knock the worst aside with blade, fist, and claw, Sakura managing to break a few more while Geralt allowed the smaller rocks to impact against his armor to little effect, his focus fully on the ones that would deal serious damage.

As the wave of stone ended, Geralt turned towards the Orphan to see it landing on the ground after its attacks, and he used the opportunity to grab a Grapeshot bomb from his pouch and toss it at the Guardian before drawing his blade and nodding at Sakura. “Let’s keep it busy, then?” Rika’s whale summon wouldn’t manage to do much if it got destroyed before it was even able to reach Galeem’s chosen, so they’d have to do something about that. Junior’s minions had numbers, but quality and quantity wouldn’t hurt at all.

Sakura nodded, looking quite pleased with herself through all the adrenaline. Sadly her burst of power flickered out. Even with her powerful glow coming to an end, she pumped both her fists. “Let’s go!” She sprinted forward, wanting to engage the Orphan as soon as possible. She went to the left of the Orphan. Jumping over one of it’s swipes, she blasted a one handed fireball into the back of its head in mid-air, before landing and moving in for more close ranged offense.

Geralt took the right as Sakura went left, blade flashing and swiping to distract the thing and keep its attention more than harm it, though the two could quite easily go hand in hand if Sakura gave an opportunity with her more rapid fighting style.
