I always got those two mixed up. And yeah, I know, I was at the level where I could say just about anything without much thought, but listening took a LOT of work. I could read, write, and speak it... understanding was hard because I didn't have much real exposure. My French teacher wasn't the most advanced teacher and the class was extremely simple for 4/5 years. My fourth year of French was likely the one where I learned the most. I had a different teacher that year :c

Feel free to post a C.S. You definitely have some time while LJ and I wrangle out details for Muraad, and we haven't had any initial posts yet. While LJ is the ultimate arbiter, I do think you have a day or two at the least before we get started.

Here is my character awaiting scrutiny.

Name:

Father Yorudan Rosu or Father Rosu

Age:

22

Height/Weight:

5' 11''/ 185 lbs.

Race:

Omestrian

Appearance:

Yorudan doesn't appear to be anything special. His average height belies the muscular form that covers his frame. His body is covered in scars both from his training with the Seminary and from his time as a slave, most prominatly from lash across his back. The most notable thing about Yorudan is a massive scar running down his right eye from a blade running across it.

Personality:

Yorudan is a somber soul taking everything from conversations to combat with the upmost seriousness. He views those who use power to take what they want from other to be the most wicked of people. Due to his time as a slave of the Varyan nation and his subsequent time in the Seminary, Yorudan has learned the value of being what he considers a protector of those around him. While he has almost no love for Varya himself he cares deeply for those who he has bled and suffered with, which has become the center of his being.

Background:

Yorudan was born as many of his race since the annex of Omestris, a slave. From the time that he could walk and talk he was put to work as worker for the Varyan soldiers crafting weapons and the general jobs that soldiers believed that were below them. On his twelfth birthday he decided to leave and find a safe heaven for someone like him. An endeavor in which he failed.

Yorudan got several miles outside of Varyan territory when he was surrounded by a party of soldiers lead by Captain Mikhail, a vile and vicious man who had an unnatural hatred towards the Omestrian people. Now cornered and scared, Yorudan did the only thing he felt like he could do, fight for his life. As the battle ensued he was able to kill several of the soldiers that underestimated the slave boy and those that he didn't kill were either severely wounded or defeated and sent running with their tails tucked between their legs. Filled with the uncontrollable rage of seeing his men defeated by an Omestri slave Mikhail took up his sword and began an assualt on the boy that would leave him broken, battered and bruised. As the boy fell to the ground in an unconscious heap Mikhail walked to his horse to begin the journey back to the encampment, he made the same mistake that his underlings had, he underestimated the Omestri boy. The unconscious body of the boy stood up fueled by a combination of his ferocious will to survive and his seething hatred for Mikhail and his soldiers, Yorudan unleashed a devastating ether slash comprised of burning ether reminiscent of the Kurai Kanjo of centuries past.

Although no one was struck by the attack and the boy collapsed back to the ground, the sentiment was understood and Mikhail once again drew his sword to slay this demon of a child as he was taught to do. Luck favored Yorudan that day, for the Inquisitor that had followed Mikhail and his men to heal their wounds saw the boy wield his tainted ether and saw an opportunity. As Mikhail began to plunge his sword into the boy's back the Inquisitor stayed his hand saying that Varya had greater plans for the boy than to die in the middle of a field. Before Mikhail could protest the Inquisitor took the boy and carried him to the Tower to be trained as he had.

To this day Yorudan struggles with the tempest of emotions that well within him, striving to surpress these darker tendencies of his emotional ranges while learning how to control them and use them in battle. To date Yorudan has only used this flaming ether once and has not been able to use it since. Only time will tell if he is able to harness this tainted ether.

Talents/Ethereal Abilities:

Yorudan focuses his natural flowing ether into speed and strength. While this isn't uncommon and many soldiers are able to do this, Rosu has taught himself to enhance these common skills to levels that even surprise seasoned Inquisitors. Another skill that he has aquired is the ability to focus his ether into his blade, the common use of this skill is that his blade has an eternal sharpness to it. Given enough time, Yorudan has been able to cast his ether in a shashing arc, this has only happened once as he has never had enough time to train this particular skill.

Character Relationships:

TBD

I think my writing for FF is at a stand still for the moment... though I have wanted to do something on the Arks. Since my venture in 3D modeling was too ambitious (I hate saying that) maybe I could do something else. I always had some vision of doing the description of the Arks kind of like a short story, less of a technical page and more form the POV of one of the Ark designers. A scene set in a workshop of some kind, a young and frazzled engineer pouring over page upon page of massive technical drawings on a drawing board. A guy or gal at their wits end because they are from a small little design / technical engineering shop and though they have created this marvel of engineering they can never hope to have their designs make it through the political maneuvering of the government and church approval boards. The whole hopeless story would end when it is revealed that the Inquisition has been watching this small firm and accepts the design thus leading to the creation of the arks.

I am not sure if that is what is needed but it is an idea that has needled me. Of course I am also supremely busy with my own side project as well so writing something else may be a bit of a stretch.

Avery: - If you need someone to collab with to make the work go a little faster, I'd be happy to help you.

Archangel: - I can't speak for Lovejoy on this or approve your character, but there are two things. 1, I'd recommend you toned down the powers slightly; super-human powers are approaching the realms of power-playing, especially as in the backstory you mentioned him having killed several Inquisitors, who are supposed to be these super-elite soldiers. It overpowers Yorudan and devalues the prowess of the Inquisitors somewhat. 2, less important; if you can get a picture it'd be good.

Hope I helped.

I can definitely tone him down, I used the term "superhuman" to show that he could use the basic skills beyond what the normal soldiers and Inquisitors used. With him killing
'several' Inquisitors, since I didn't specify the number I can understand why there is confusion. The actual number is somewhere in the ballpark of 2-4 including Father Mikhail and it was not intended to be an easy fight. I will work on it and find a different choice of words for his abilities.

The number of killed inquisitors should be 0, I think. Our characters aren't stronger than the previous generations' Inquisitors. We're different but that's only because our characters show more signs of humanity. A lot of them have a backstory that would cause internal conflict where as Inquisitors of the past are almost mindless in their enforcement of the law.

The only reason I said he killed any of them was for the fact I was taking into account that they were cocky and didn't think that a kid, an Omestrian kid at that, would be able to stand a chance. If Lovejoy finds an issue with it then I will change it/

It works for me, because as you said, his etheral power "remains hidden deep within him as a power that he has yet to understand"; something that is unleashed in times of immense turmoil, similar to the awakening of a Super Saiyan? Am I right in thinking that?

I cannot speak for LJ either but being the guy who developed and wrote out the Omestri race and Inquisitor training (with Scout and another long lost member) with LJ's guidance I would say that a lone Omestri killing any Inquisitors is a bit much-ish. I understand the trope of the hidden power of the Fire Titan and the flair in the character background but I think the Omestri are less of the noble slave trope and more of a "Reek" from GoT honestly. At least that's how I always saw them, I mean these people have been culturally destroyed over generations and reduced to a commodity, utterly vilified and ground into little more than dirt or oil to be used up for heat.

I am not trying to be a bummer Arch, I would love to see you join up after LJ gives you the thumbs up, I just want you to have the best character you can have that falls in-line with all the stuff that has already been laid down over this long span of time. All the other stuff seems great its just that bit that doesn't fit, I mean its like saying a beaten and tortured house slave defeated 2 or 3 Marines or MMA fighters.

Even a beaten slave could kill a marine if his instincts kicked in and he felt the "fight or flight" syndrome kick in...but for the purpose of the rp I understand. Would it be acceptable if Yorudan moderately injured the Inquisitor, nothing major just enough cuts and bruises to be ridiculed by other Inquisitors?

See that is something I could see as possible and even more compelling. Like you said the Inquisitors underestimated the poor slave and paid for it, which is still a powerful statement about your character without being too spectacular. It also leaves room open for future plots involving your char and those inquisitors because I am sure they didn't leave the encounter happy. Maybe your char ran into them at the Seminary, maybe one was an Archon during your characters demon year and made it even more hellish for the guy. I think it opens up a lot of doors.

Also when you write consider how the world would view your character, unless he hides it well a lot of people will still see an Omestri, even a church rep, as lower than low, though they may not say it openly.
