I may be interested to make a Democracy that wants to preserve old world values, and bring back the golden ages.A nation with its eyes to the stars, maybe? (with a hell of a lot of hypocritical bureaucracy and political red tape, so America Reborn as a Democracy?)I don't know... But I'll try

Going space-bound wouldn't be an option. We're talking about a general society where progress has gone back roughly two-hundred years and the merits of space were forgotten as a society in favor of more immediately useful concepts. I can't see a functioning society who's goal would be to reconnect with space. Maybe a small group within it, but I can't imagine it rippling throughout. Space isn't functional.

Nah, I meant that in a metaphorical sense, not literal, although I may have harboured hopes of going spacey.
Of course, I mean this "democracy" to be capitalist to the most and held back in most human rights areas due to red tape, corruption, and a total lack of industrialist ethics

So, like, plantation-system slavery? I'm trying to figure out if by "industrial ethics" you mean modern factory industry, or traditional agrarian economy. And a lack of ethics there would probably end up giving rise to slavery.

Well, its like the early 1900's, actually. Slavery IS outlawed, but theres a huge poor/rich difference, and although I suppose there is a whole bunch of reformists for rights, but their success is slowpaced. Maybe around the end of the RP is when my nation MIGHT reach a better place for the poor.
Yay capitalism

There's plenty of counties in Ohio to go around. I'm not going to try and find them all. But sense we are: keep yourselves from Traverse Bay, Michigan. I got things to do in wine country.

And while I'm back here, might as well put out my generic application sheet for things like this:

Faction:

Location: (mark roughly on map)

History:

There's also one additional bit on information to add to the loose history of the RP. Something I've added and maybe two elements in the post-black out world that I'd like to see consistent. But I'll explain them tomorrow after work (if I don't get caught up in pre-Memorial Day partying). And then maybe re-organize the OP to work in a formal RP OP. But use the app to devise at least a proto-type concept, and we'll see if you can fashion what I got yet to write out tomorrow.

Faction: The United Republic of New Worthington and Columbus.

Location:

History: When the solar storm hit, the county was home to 9% of the states population. Much of the counties erupted into chaos and rebellion, the city of columbus was heavily dependent on electricity, even with this problem, it managed to survive and establish order in the surrounding areas, it had become the center of power in the center of the county. While Columbus had erupted into rebellion, the small town of Worthington survived on its farmland and soon much of the northwest was dependent on the food provided by the small town. It rose to power in the northwest. There were other cities that had rose to power in surrounding areas but a war had erupted between them. The two cities seeing a chance to unite the county joined forces and united the weakened cities under their rule.

In the late 19th century after slavery was abolished, former slaves would work as sharecroppers on the very same plantations they were slaves on, under the very same white masters. They were paid, but not enough to leave - it was slavery without it being slavery. There's an idea for you.

Faction: Marquette Commonwealth

Location:

History:
The Upper Peninsula was home to a small portion of Michigan's population. While Metro Detroit held five million souls, scarce few of them survived. In the aftermath of the chaos that shook the world, Marquette and it's surrounding environment went unscathed. Marquette County had 67,077 to rebuild society in it's corner of the Midwest. While more industrialized regions were shattered economically and politically, the people of M.C were spared the initial chaos. It took little time for people to begin rebuilding, much of the equipment scattered about the area was still functional. That which could not be used was salvaged, and a monopoly on mechanical parts soon developed. The city organized itself into a government, and from there the Marquette Commonwealth was born.

Divorced from the ideals of Democracy, the Commonwealth sought to unite the people of the Midwest beneath one authoritative banner. Progress would see factories and cities rise once more, but no longer would petty politics stand in the way of unity. The Commonwealth prioritizes industriousness, intellect and humility. Following the purge of 1,800 individuals, primarily violent criminals yet to be convicted, the Commonwealth looked to the outside world. The Commonwealth is seen as a blessing by some for their steadfast attitude towards reconstruction and unity, while others chastise them for their hostility towards mutants and authoritarian government. Possessing mechanical technology rare to the area, Marquette holds considerable sway with nearby communities and even whole counties.

Oh, and something I was going to do earlier, but pre-Memorial Day things got in the way. So, without further ado, some "loose" NPC organizations that'd be relevant to this region:

[inheritors of] FEMA/The F5 - The former Federal Emergency Management Association had been created in the late 70's to manage disaster recovery efforts and to survey the damage for the federal government in Washington DC on the deceleration of a emergency in a selected region. The organization was split into eleven different bureaus to manage to the breadth of the United States.

However, the collapse of society and FEMA's ability to coordinate with itself and with Washington had greatly effected the organization's ability to operate. More so in the Great Lakes where nuclear fire reigned on Chicago, destroying their regional headquarters and further crippling their ability to operate to their full organizational potential. All the same they remain.

Scattered offices throughout the Great Lakes continue to operate, if with a crippled ability to coordinate their efforts. Loose, informal contact with the rest of what remains of FEMA continues on. Though as the generations within the organization change as they do outside, the use of FEMA as an acronym dropped or new names were given to them by post-black out communities across the region. Most popular of all being The F5.

The F5 continues a mission of teaching post-apocalyptic communities to survive in as loose a definition to before as possible. Though they may not hold the organization knowledge to keep combustion engines working or to even build new ones, the least they can offer is the ability to organize based in the rising Missionaries of the F5 and traveling medical care or training between communities. Often time the F5 serves as a politically neutral caravan, moving between communities to bargain between them the needs they both need.

From a political standpoint this keeps smaller communities from showing their hand to potentially predatory groups who would keep their distance base on the variety of unknowns this keeps. For the larger communities this puts in someone else's hands the methods to spread their influence through kindly donations.

Aventurier - Men of distant purpose, the Aventurier claim to be from a place known as the Kingdom of Quebec, though self-proclaimed. Often speaking the language of their own language in the post-apocalyptic landscape the actual intention of the Aventurier is a mystery of their own. Though their primary purpose seems to be that of scouts or explorers sent to learn and trade with the land beyond their own.

For the new communities of the Great Lakes, the Aventurier are a source of trade to and from far-flung places many of the new generation would never had heard of. Such places as Les Aungtupée or La Nouvelle-Orléans. Though their ability to find and sell such far-away materials is renown, it is hardly anything but a luxury market to many in the new world, and aesthetic baubles.

Though with a commercial role, many come with other services. A regimented, military society. The Aventurier may see fit to his own honor to contract his own services out. Though his true loyalty lies in that land of Quebec and its interests ultimately over ride its own.

The Aventurier hold a more central presence in the Great Lakes, and have set up their frontier forts at both Sault Ste. Maries and Detroit/Windsor.

How Encrypted seems to picture Marquette:

How I picture Marquette:

Don't get me wrong... It has its iron mine. I think that's about it. I can't really see it it holding much left-overs in machines that its neighbors wouldn't have in already-stripped repair garages. It's probably only got broken-down mining equipment to its name and rusted frames of the above ground mine structures.

Northern Michigan University is a relatively sizable academic institute. Plenty of research and industrial equipment would be hosted there. Training and teaching technicians and electricians involves functional equipment to troubleshoot and maintain. Nothing on the scale of a leftover factory or storage depot, but definitely something worthwhile to small town like Marquette. Then you mentioned mining.

wikipedia said Marquette continues to be a shipping port for hematite ores and, today, enriched iron ore pellets, from nearby mines and pelletizing plants. About 7.9 million gross tons of pelletized iron ore passed through Marquette's Presque Isle Harbor in 2005.

It's certainly nothing like Detroit or Chicago, but it holds a lot of commodities and equipment generally outside the reach of nearby counties. I've been there myself. A whole lot of nothing separating Marquette from the villages surrounding it. Only place that could compete up there would be Sault St. Marie and Houghton/Hancock. Repair garages only get you so far before looting is necessary. Having localized mining infrastructure and equipment, plus the shipping equipment at the docks, gives Marquette an advantage. Put them up against an industrial region and they pale, but locally it dominates.
