Kingdom Hearts: Dirge of the World Eater is an alternate-universe Kingdom Hearts roleplay created by Kurai and Wayward and centered around an original cluster of Worlds. It will follow a Keyblade Master and his group of apprentices as they try to seal away an ancient terror, all while striving to become masters, facing a menacing villain, and fighting Heartless along the way. The tone will be similar to the main Kingdom Hearts series (KH 1 and 2) and Disney worlds will still be featured. While the main roster only consists of eight slots (one Master and his three apprentices, as well as one villain and his three apprentices), original characters will still be welcomed and we will do our best to work any and all participants into the story. This Roleplay will feature several custom rules.
It has been 50 years since the loss of the outer cluster. Back then, it was a time of peace among the worlds; Key Bearers acted as righteous enforcers and kept the darkness at bay. However, the darkness had been subjugated for too long, and it lashed out at the worlds. From the Realm of Darkness came a massive beast, larger than a world and capable of travelling the lanes between with nothing more than organic propulsion. The beast came to this cluster of what was once 13 strong worlds and devoured the outer four in the blink of an eye, before any serious resistance could be mounted. The worlds panicked. Never had they faced such an enemy, certainly not in the years of peace they were used to.
It was the Key Bearers who stood up to the World Eater. They put aside their differences and took up their Keyblades in a great battle against the beast. However, the beast was too powerful and they were not able to kill it outright. So, in an effort to keep the worlds safe, the Key Bearers locked the beast into a prison of light that rose into the sky over the world they fought upon. The light was made from the Key Bearer’s hearts, and as long as they lived the prison would hold. Formerly known as Ancient Desert, the world was renamed Hero’s Requiem in honor of the battle and the fallen Key Bearers.
After the battle, the remaining Key Bearers scattered and their conflicting ideologies that they had put aside to fight the World Eater were remembered. They went their separate ways; some returned to the role of righteous enforcer, but many others strayed from this path and began to use their power for selfish goals. The worlds became darker as what should have been a period of victorious rejoice became an age of fearful uncertainty...

Much has changed during the fifty years between the Battle of Ancient Desert and the present. The Key Bearers, once known unanimously as stalwarts of justice, are now split into two distinct groups. On one side is the former enforcers, vigilant in protecting the cluster by any means necessary. On the other side lies the Key Bearers who wish to use their power for personal gain, darkened by the years of twilight that followed the imprisonment of the World Eater. The two groups are constantly at odds, making the cluster tense from their struggles.
Meanwhile, a shadowy presence claws at the edges of the worlds. Reports from all over the cluster have come in about shady, emotionless creatures with glowing eyes, randomly appearing and attacking without provocation. The Key Bearers that were old enough to remember identified the shadow beasts as Heartless, but could not explain why they had come. According to some reports, the Heartless seem to follow the rogue Key Bearer faction, though that information has not been confirmed.
All the while, as the Key Bearers that fought in the Battle of Ancient Desert begin to grow old and pass on, the World Eaters prison grows weaker and weaker...
How will the light stand up to the darkness?
The cluster that KH:DWE takes place in has a handful of worlds. Unlike the clusters of the main games, these worlds are intrinsically interconnected. Travel from one world to another is possible without risk of exposure to Heartless (meaning the current heartless threat is from another, unknown source). The game will focus upon three main worlds, though other worlds will be introduced along the way as well.
Hero’s Requiem- This world was briefly described above in the Backstory section. Previously named Ancient Desert, this world is predominantly sandy dunes and long-forgotten ruins. There are hints of a civilization that used to thrive on this deserted land, but no one has been able to gather any conclusive evidence. Currently, the world is off-limits to travelers and is used as a prison for the World Eater.
Fallen Jungle- A world at the edge of the cluster widely regarded as being uninhabited, except by fearsome jungle creatures. While the world is not officially off-limits, it is rarely visited due to its dangerous nature. It has since become regarded as mysterious, with many rumors springing up about the world, such as it being a haven of darkness or a refuge for the impure. Currently unknown to the rest of the cluster, Fallen Jungle has become the seat of the rogue Keybearer faction.
Old Bastion- Once the proud seat of power of the Keybearers' society, this world was left abandoned in the wake of the Battle at Hero's Requiem. It is exclusively consistent of a large castle that dominates the landscape. Though the castle itself still stands strong, its inhabitants are few. It has become the home of a famous Keyblade master of the light faction, droves of travelers in need of housing in their journey between worlds and occasionally refugees seeking safe havens from adversities.
HEY, PLAYERS! Yes, that’s right, you! There will be other Disney worlds that make an appearance in this RP as well! Do you have any suggestions as to what worlds we should use? If so, make a post telling us about it! We may use your ideas in the RP!

There are six main slots we are looking to fill: three light Keyblade Apprentices and three dark Keyblade Apprentices. Kurai will be playing the dark Keyblade Master while Wayward will be playing the light Master. Of course, you can always make a character that doesn’t conform to one of these slots, and we’ll do our very best to work you into the story. Feel free to PM Kurai or Wayward if you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions.
Once you choose a slot, there are some methods you should use to create your character. You must keep in mind that your power level should be relatively low. In terms of magic, your character shouldn’t know anything higher than first-level spells (fire, blizzard, etc.). Their combat training should be somewhat low as well, though this is more flexible. When choosing abilities, please keep them modest and don’t go above five or so. This includes magic spells your character might know. Needless to say, your Apprentices will already have Keyblades, so feel free to design their aesthetics as you will. However, if you are going to tack an ability onto your Keyblade (boosted magic, etc.), make sure to keep it reasonable.
Please note that your characters will get more powerful along the course of the RP. The restriction of power is temporary.
Respect your fellow RPers. Abusive or demeaning behavior toward another (OOC) and you're gone.
Breaking a rule will earn you a warning. Two warnings will earn you a one-way ticket out.
Proper spelling and grammar are appreciated.
If you are unable to post for a week or more, PM either Wayward or Kurai, or you may risk being kicked from the RP.
Keep it PG-13. This is a Kingdom Hearts RP, it should be mostly PG even, but we understand the need for a little maturity now and then. Romance is fine, but please keep sexual and explicit content out of this RP. The same goes for over-the-top blood/gore.
Time and space manipulation are completely off-limits during character creation. If we decide to allow them to be used at a later point in the RP, we will let you know and they will still be heavily monitored.
