Introduction
A soft, sweet melody wafts through the air. From an Earth perspective, it's the most lovely and beautiful sound. It brings you serenity and maybe even joy. It's ironic, considering that as of late, you've been having a difficult time. The reasons always vary and it could be anything from loneliness, abuse, sadness or just plain boredom. Either way, after you hear it and exactly twenty-four hours have gone by. . POOF!
You are no longer on Earth. No, instead . . you're somewhere you've never seen before. You're pretty sure this place doesn't even exist – and it doesn't, at least not to YOU. Maybe you'll freak out, cry or begin to look around – your reactions will vary. And it's only natural, considering you are no longer in your room, at home, at school or work, hell, you aren't even ON Earth.
But you ARE in Luminescence, however. Most easily described as a "fictional town" filled with creatures you've never seen before, some you've only heard before in folklore, myth or stories. Some terrify you and others might interest you. But mainly, you might find yourself confused and scared. How will you ever return home?
You don't know it yet, but being here is your destiny. You have a purpose here, but only if you are willing to fulfill it. To trust yourself and others again, to find your true love, to fight off the dark feelings building in your heart and many more blockades you'll come across – are you ready?
It's full moon again and as usual, you hear the same melody you've already heard what feels like a hundred times already. You might yawn or shrug it off, you already know how this routine goes. And as expected, twenty-four hours later, a new batch of multidimensional travelers arrive – yet again. Over your years, you've seen thousands of humans arrive in Luminescence – some have stayed and fallen in love, some have gone home and the rest . . ?
Well, they became those hideous creatures you know so well – Improbi.
Maybe you've considered the possibility that this might be your chance. Maybe you want to give it a shot, find a human of your own. Or maybe, you just don't care and you just get caught up in this. Somehow, you find yourself in an encounter with one or more of these humans and it isn't before long that your life is most likely turned upside – whether for the better or worse.
You might find yourself with a new human companion, whether a traveling or adventuring companion, someone to mentor or perhaps . . . a lover? Either way, you're now caught up with the newest batch. And this too might just be YOUR destiny, your chance. But only if you are willing to meet these humans halfway. . only if you're willing to trust and control yourself, only if you're willing to give them a chance and yourself – are you ready?
Love Culture
As a human in Luminescence, there is only one way to stay in the fictional world if you wish: finding your true love. And you are limited, especially in the source of time. You only have thirty days until the next Lunar Festival, thirty days until the next full moon – only thirty days until you are forced to return home if you don't fulfill the requirements.
As tradition goes, once a creature or human find their true love, a creature must ask a human for permission permission. Permissions to perform the Lunar Dance, a dance that is performed at the monthly Lunar Festival – in order to seal their fate by binding. Binding does not necessarily mean marriage, but it does symbolize love and it officially makes the two a couple. It also allows a human to stay in Luminescence instead of returning to their real world. In order to marry, a human must offer the creature a tool of affection (it may vary from a ring, to a collar, it depends heavily on the creature's race) and propose to them from the Starry Crag. If the creature answer yes, then the two are able to hold a marriage ceremony and be bonded for life.
In a couple, a creature generally protects the human. Creatures have access to animal forms, magic and various other attributes. A human generally wields a weapon to protect their lover in return. Couples choose their life after marriage, whether they'd like to have a home and "settle down" or travel the world, the sky is the limited.
Culture for love varies around this world, but Luminescence is known for having the most exotic with their preferred choice of a partner being a human. This is seen as both joyous and a terrible thing as it far too often results in something hideous -- an Improbous. An Improbous (or Improbi for plural) is a monster born of a human who refused to go home after failing to find true love. They are born of anger, hatred and betrayal. They appear like regular humans, but with a slightly deeper voice and dark as night aura. Because of their conditions of creation, they are far stronger than a regular human and have increased speed and anger and generally wield a weapon. Most are warned to avoid them – or kill them.
LocationsDuring the course of this story, you and the others involved in the Roleplay will have the ability to explore the locations around you. I will be accepting suggestions for locations and the location section is to be updated periodically, so make sure to check if it's updated! Here's a list of locations so far:
A quaint town that can be found at the edge of a cliff. Notable traits of Luminescence include its natural and serene beauty, as well as the waterfalls that run down the cliff. But it is also known for it's monthly Lunar Festival and the clarity of the stars and moon most nights. Luminescence does not have modern day technology, as creatures see no use for most of it. Many explorers and adventurers pass through Luminescence on a daily basis, so the marketplace is generally filled with activity and exotic stories. Stories work by a stall-basis and business hours are from sunrise to sunset before the day continues from parties, pubs and the like. This is the main epitome of the Roleplay, being the beginning and quite possibly the end of it (?).
A cliff located at the edge of town. It is near the festival grounds for the Lunar Festival. Here is the spot for the greatest view of the stars. It is also the location that marriage deals are sealed as a human may propose to their lover here.
A field that eventually leads into the Black Woods. Generally considered a "safe house" for hiding or isolation, many creatures may go here to ponder thoughts or hide. It is not always safe, however, as it can occasionally be crawling with Improbi and could be quite dangerous, especially for a human.
A location of ominous feeling. Because of how high the trees are, the forest is generally always dark and because of that, it's a great spot for Improbi to hide. It is highly cautioned to NEVER go to the Black Woods considering of the high risk.
Rules
- You can have as many characters are you can handle. Don't expect all of them to get a significant other.
- Anything that is past the "fluff stage" must be taken to PMs or fade to black.
- You'll get a warning if you start drama outside of the Roleplay, after that, you'll be kicked from the Roleplay.
- Not a rule, but I'd really love to see some proper grammar and character development here. Take your time when writing a response.
- If you have any questions, PM me or ask here in the thread, I will get back to you as soon as possible.
- Shouldn't be much of an issue, but don't metagame, powerplay or godmod.
- Don't force romance onto another player. Let it all work out and flow.
- Do not kill another player's character without their permission. It is okay to attack their character, but not kill them.
- Do not control another's character without their consent. There will be only one warning for this.
- Listen to the Co-Mods, they have all the same powers that I do.
- Do not speed-posting. There will not be a posting order, but I don't want two pages between just two people, alright?
