I read the first 2 or 3 books, but hated it. Better than Legend of the Seeker, fails beside LotR, WoT, Dark Tower. Guess I'm not a blood/rape/politics type. Weeell, the show is worse I guess. Much more rape, anyway.

Well, the author's reasoning is that sex and rape, however brutal, was a very big part of that time period. Not referencing it is essentially saying it doesn't exist. I think Martin found an excellent way to make the books both fantasy and realistic at the same time.

The books were much better concerning rape, it's just not something I care to read about when I already read about it plenty IRL. =P But the tv show turned at least two consensual sex scenes from the book into rape. More realistic, sure, but dragons aren't particularly realistic so I guess I don't see why being realistic is a big deal.

yuuuh. I'm more of a light-hearted reader, stuff like Tolkien where ultimately the bad guys are squished.
