Name: Takeshi Shun
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Occupation: Artist and Armorer
Sword: Yoken

Personality:
Takeshi is a kind and patient man. He is a bit of a perfectionist with a meticulous eye for detail, which serves him well in his professions, but often puts him at odds with the people around him. Takeshi is a bit of an introvert, preferring to spend time alone with his art and his designs, than spending time in the company of others. It isn’t that he dislikes people; it is more that he just doesn’t know how to properly act in social settings. One on one, Takeshi is more than capable of interacting with others, but the more people he is around, the more he hides himself away.

Background:
When he was very young, Takeshi realized that he had a passion for art. This alienated him a bit from the other children his age, as he preferred to spend his time drawing and painting rather than play-fighting or playing sports.

As time went on, and Takeshi’s skills flourished, his father grew worried that he would be stuck without any employable skills. Resolved to finding a way to put Takeshi’s skills to good use, his father decided to teach him the basics of armour crafting and design. Surprisingly, Takeshi took quite well to the craft. For him, designing armour was just another way of creating art, and this way he could see his designs coming to life.

Once he came of age to move out, Takeshi did so, finding a job as an armorer and making quite a name for himself. He received the sword Yoken as a gift from a samurai whose armour he designed. The samurai told him that the sword had been in his family for generations, but nobody had been able to actually draw the sword. He had assumed it to be a simple decorative sword, and so he gave it to Takeshi in return for crafting his armour.

Takeshi had taken the samurai at his word and never tried to wield the sword… that is, not until the day the man came looking for him.

Skills:
Takeshi is an incredibly talented artist. He has a keen eye for detail, and is actually a talented strategist. His most unique gift was an enhancement from the blade. When Takeshi wields Yoken, he not only gains enhanced sight, but he also becomes aware of what he has called the ‘shatter-point’ in different forms of armour and weapons. He believes this to be the result of his years spent extensively studying different armour and weapon designs.

Equipment:
Aside from the blade, and his own custom armour, Takeshi brought his art set with him, which includes various art supplies. He also brought along his father’s knife, just in case he was ever in need.

@Zero Hex: I see your point, but trust me on this one: I have my reasons for this. I also notice that you seem to assume that the blades symbolize their abilities. Let us just throw that out the window rather than me spoil anything. XD

But back to the original topic: there is a reason I didn't vary the weapons as extremely as you suggest while still giving them some variation. You'll just have to trust that it's a good reason. It also appears that you aren't the only one that intends to use Kashoku.

@knighthawk: I find the concept interesting, but I don't think you're utilizing the maximum potential of it. Why don't you build the character up a bit more, and make the sheet look nicer while you're at it.

@ChromeHound: I noticed that you put a little note in the skills about utilizing Yoken. The artist appears to be presently unknowing of the ability, so is that a reference to once he finds out how to use it? Other than that question, it's looking really good.

Thanks! Sorry, I should have cleared that up a little bit. You are right, I just wanted to describe it in a way so that it explained how the blade would work for him upon discovering how to use it. Is there anything that you think need changing or polishing? I am open to anything. ^^

Name: Kaido Yuushiko
Age: 21
Sex: M
Occupation: Bladesmith
Personality: Kaido is a very dedicated and happy-go-lucky person, but has seemingly random shifts in mood and behavior. He normally is very simple and naïve in terms of his thought process and personality, often reflecting this in his works. However, his ideas are(theoretically) great. While he may be seen as somewhat eccentric due to his haphazard mind, people are drawn towards his bright aura. The personalities he changes into tend to be some combination of these: easily irritated, apologetic, bold, lazy, crazy, philosophic, hungry, theatrical, violent, indecisive, and impatient. Fortunately, he always goes back to his original persona(as any crazy, violent, easily irritated person is not fun to be around).

Background:
Born as the youngest out of his 7 brothers in a rich family, Kaido had little to worry about and had a lot of free time on his hands. As a result, his parents got him to take up a variety of activities, including painting(he wasn't very good at it), dancing(tripped over his feet a lot), and even cooking(he actually wasn't half-bad at it). However, outside of those, Kaido often visited the town. There, he would help out the locals with their jobs, or he would just play with other children. While people duly noted his erratic personality, Kaido was rather popular with them, as they enjoyed having his help.

Over time, he learned how to do several different jobs, including what became his favorite thing to do: bladesmithing. His parents, glad that Kaido learned a trade that could bring fame, gave him some support. While he did refine his craft, Kaido preferred making blades of his own design; unique and exotic weapons that, while not elegant, were fairly popular amongst groups of people. Despite the dangerous times, Kaido still decided to go explore the world to find inspiration. While he was doing this, he heard that there was a group that needed a cook.... in demon-infested territory. Figuring that demons are deadly and, thus a good inspiration for weapons, he signed up for the task.

Skills: While Kaido's swordsmanship is decent, However, his strong point shows in his strength, where he can easily lift things where others may have difficulty. He can make a mean stew.
Equipment: Kaido uses a
as his main weapon, with capabilities in both cutting and crushing. Aside from this, he carries around a notebook and smithing tools.

A good suggestion but limited to a small extent of being an 8 year old boy, there isn't much foundation when one is barely in the third grade for character history and personality. Some to be sure as provided and infinite room for potential. Perhaps you could enlighten me on something obvious I might have missed or a nuance left unused?

@knighthawk: I imagine there isn't much room in eight years, but he didn't have any life-changing/defining moments prior to his departure? No coincidentally tragic events? I mean, I think the kid is pretty much fine but I was just thinking that perhaps there could be something more in it to perhaps mature him a few stages ahead of a normal eight year old boy.

@FVGT: I guess we would certainly need a cook. I can't quite understand the personality, to be honest. But what I can understand looks good. XD

@Sathanas Rex: Of course you can make a non-blade character. In fact, that makes me happy. :D

@knighthawk: I knew you could add something good. I like the little twist.

I'm going to update the first post again tonight, since it's already getting a bit outdated.

here we go!

(image taken from konachan.com and uploaded by FormX)

Name: Akane Miyoshi

Age: 19

Sex: Female, can't you tell?

Occupation: I'm a researcher! Brother says it's not a proper job for a lady of my standing, but Brother has a stick up his ass. Of course, he's right when he says science doesn't pay, but it's far too glorious of a task to require anything as mundane as money... besides, I'd never stoop as low as those silly alchemists who only pretend they're true scientists! Plus, what else is the family money good for, if not maintaining the Hayashi's only daughter? I don't know what Brother does with all that money anyway. Oh my, I'm rambling again... ahem.

Personality: As if I need an introduction! I'm the most wonderful, amazing and talented person you'll ever meet, trust me on this. If you ask Brother though, I'm sure he'll tell you quite a lot on me. He's always embarassing me in front of people, especially if they're cute guys. 'Akane, you're too impatient', 'Akane, you're too hot-headed', 'Akane, don't overspend', 'Akane, you talk too much', Akane this, Akane that. Sheesh. I suppose I do have the tendency to act -- and to speak -- a bit rashly, but people can be so annoying. Especially the stuffy nobles, all they do is talk talk talk but they don't actually say anything, and the commoners talk talk talk but they tend not to mean anything. It's hard to get people to understand, and I have better things to invest my time on than patience. The money, well, it's all for important stuff! Like tools and paper and brushes -- those have a tendency to get lost -- and other gear. I don't see what he means by needless spending. Well, I suppose the pretty dresses might qualify as such... they're just so pretty, I can't help myself! Maybe the stuffed toys, too. Oh well. He has a point. Don't tell him I said that. Heee~

Background: Background, how boring. I wish the profiles were more interesting. Nothing for it, then. Let's see, I was born into the Miyoshi family, and promptly found it boring. Brother says that when I was little, I use to sneak out and waddle about everywhere, to the point they had to assign a servant to watch over me... not that it stopped me in any way! The castle and the high life were never my favorite thing. I've always found knowledge beautiful, and I've always craved it. I used to send my teachers running home in tears, all the questions I asked them. Brother would take me across the country in order to find a teacher capable of amusing me. I liked those trips. He seemed very busy during them, like he was looking for someone, or something, but he always managed to make time for me. Not so recently, the whole castle's been abuzz, actually. I wonder what's going on. Whoopsie, I'm rambling again. A few years ago I decided to start researching in earnest. Researching what? Everything. If there's something I don't understand, I'm not satisfied until I figure it out.

My favorite topic, however, has always been Oni. They're fascinating, but there's so little on them. Ever since I was read nursery stories on them as a child, they've always exerted a pull on me. Perhaps it's because they're the greatest mystery of our time? So powerful, so devastating, yet we know practically nothing. At some point in time I decided I would be the one to learn everything that could be learned on them. The idea had been floating in my mind for ever no doubt, it just solidified then. I might have been in my brother's library. I'm usually there anyway, so it's a safe bet~ and my darling Inzen will help me in this quest. As long as I have him, I'll be fine no matter where I go! And my brother knows that, too. After all, he's the one who gave Inzen to me in the first place! Well, it would be more accurate to say he lent it to me, and I kept it. Turns out Yasushi had found the sword carried by an Oni, of all creatures, when he was fighting at the borders, and promptly tore it out of his hands, he tells me. He was unable to find the wielder of it, of course, so it kind of sat there, gathering dust. Can you believe it, a sword so powerful, just sitting there? Before I get sidetracked! Back to my story, er… riiight, how I got it. So as we sometimes do when he has the time, my brother and I were sparring in the garden. He was using Kouhei, sheathed, of course, and I felt like using Inzen, because why not? As usual, he was handing my ass to me, and I joked about being able to draw the sword, and he dared me to, and I drew it, damn right I did. I'm awesome. Ahem. Turns out the superstrength thing only kicks in after you've drawn it once. You should have seen his face when I kicked him through several pottery vases, I bust a lung just recalling it. You should have seen his face when he realized he was going to have to take me on that quest of his, too. Good times, good times.

I think that's enough for boring exposition.

Skills: Can I do anything? You have to ask? I can do lots of things! I know about the movement of the stars, the tides, the seasons, maths, I can paint, sculpt, I'm wicked with a Shamisen, and I'm also not bad with a katana, even though Brother doesn't like me using one (he's just jealous cause mine is way more epic).

Equipment: Nobody told me there'd be a journey! I'm going to go have to get my equipment...

Sorry I've been away. Between the Guild being picky and my business, I didn't have the time to do anything. Especially log on, apparently...

Anyways, character review time:

Though the use of first-person is done rather well here, I find it a bit confusing. I've always been a third-person advocate for roleplaying as it allows things to be more clear. So I hope that isn't a prelude to using first-person when the IC gets going, because that will get confusing fast. But anyways, in all seriousness, I have a few things for ya.

1: She is stated to have the surname of Miyoshi. Is that just a coincidence that means nothing? Note: one of the established characters comes from a noble Miyoshi family.
2: I can guess why she would tag along on the journey (to learn about the Oni, I presume) but her actual role is unclear to me. What would she be doing?

Fear not, I write in third person. I wanted to convey her nature in the most effective way possible, and first person is the preferred way of conveying something directly, after all.

And that is not a coincidence at all, I thought I wasn't very subtle about it -- I do want her to be the daughter of the great samurai. My reasoning for this is, said samurai brings the owners of the legendary swords together at the shogun's palace, where Akane is also found. She decides to tag along with the team. If this is not permissible, a surname change is easy. As for what she'd be doing, probably being annoying to everyone else. She doesn't like court life, and Oni are fascinating, what better excuse to leave for a while?
