The light of dawn began to stretch over the capitol, Kyushu. The city was vast, with many differing building heights. Though most were only two stories tall or so, there were some that had considerable height, standing above their brethren like trees compared to bushes. However, the crown jewel to the Kyushu skyline was Takaga Castle. The home to the imperial family. The castle is so tall that it almost looks like a monolith, a testament to the power of the Empire and the Shogunate. It was always this building that received the first light of the day and the last light of the evening. Presently, it stood watch over the silent streets of Kyushu. Though the city is usually alive and even chaotic, due to the high population and high density, but this early in the morning yielded only a mere fraction of the citizens.

Awake in his bed was Yasushi Miyoshi. The hotel was a nice one, and the Shogun had paid for he and his sister to have the best rooms in the whole city. As the samurai, only clad in his underclothes, looked out the hotel window over Kyushu, he let out a sigh. Today is the day, he thought, before turning away to get ready. After a shower, a shave, and a nice white kimono, he was prepared for the meeting. Though, the meeting was at noon, and the clocks determined that was over five hours away. The invitations to the meeting had been sent days prior, so the owners of the Kuso blades should all be in Kyushu in time for the mission. Yasushi already knew for certain that most of them were in the city, so he wasn't concerned of anyone arriving late.

But nervousness still gripped him. I need to relax my nerves. The hotel he and Akane were staying at had a zen garden on the rooftop. An interesting location, but when Yasushi went to check on it, it seemed that the view was actually soothing. At least in the early morning's light. There was a wooden walkway over the well-kept sand. Upon closer inspection, it seemed that the wind patterns actually kept it looking nice, not any human management. This provided an interesting thought, but Yasushi quickly shook it away as he sat down on a rock near the walkway and began to meditate. The sun began to appear over the horizon, casting an orange glare across the sky and shining its light directly upon the samurai.

After an hour of sitting as such, Yasushi felt more calm and relaxed, and thus decided it was time to wake Akane. He entered the hotel and approached her door. They were allowed separate rooms, something that Yasushi was thankful for. Though he loved his sister, he knew she could be quite a handful if given stimulation. Unfortunately, their rooms were next to each other so she still had the opportunity to bother him overnight. And once again on the flipside: at least she decided not to last night. Yasushi rapped on the door several times, before looking out the hallway window. It had to have been about eight o' clock or so. "It's time to wake up, Akane," he called through the door. "I will go to the castle now. You better be there on time. Remember: the meeting is in four hours." With that, he grinned lightly and walked back into his room.

The only thing left on his to-do list was to bring Kouhei. The blade was sheathed and leaning against the wall behind the door, so anyone entering would not see it. Yasushi tied the blade to his waist, made the bed, and took his leave. Though there were several hours until the meeting, he felt the need to be at Takaga Castle early. Perhaps not this early, but something compelled him to go. As such, he walked down the streets toward the castle, taking note at how quickly the streets began to fill with carts and pedestrians as the sun went higher in the sky.

Saito Takasu

The form of Saito's sleeping body stood out against the tree he was in, his body resting against the trunk. The sun was just gracing the horizon, and it's red light danced across Saito's body. His eyes slowly opened, and Saito rubbed his eyes slowly, looking around him. He was located right outside the capitol, as he didn't feel like wasting money on a hotel, nor did the idea of begging the king for money sound too appealing. Saito stood up, and retrieved his equipment from a branch farther above him. He had washed his attire the night before, and left it out to dry, opting to sleep in a rough leather tunic, and pants.

Saito's tools included a group of kunai's, which were dipped in paralysis poison, along with two katanas. One was a very new sword, with hardly any scratches nor dents in it's pristine blade. The other had an aged handle, it's sheath holding many cuts, and almost seemed as if it was falling apart at the seams. It's age was clear, far surpassing Saito's. The last two items in Saito's arsenal of weapons were as follows: A simple dagger, with a rigid metal hand guard that surrounded his hand, and steel that was a midnight black. As well as a small orange feathered dart. This dart was coated with a extremely potent poison that almost always proves lethal. At first the dart will seem to have no effect, and after four hours no annoyances, or urge to itch occurs. After 8 hours though, the poison induces symptoms of vomiting, blisters, delirium and necrosis. Saito's array of weaponry was definitely daunting, and as such he rarely was mistaken for anything, but one of his own profession.

Things were changing, as an attempt on the emperors life by Saito had failed, and terrible memories were renewed after the guards started questioning him about his sword (The older of the two swords). His katana was soon theorized, and confirmed to be the legendary sword Soyokaze (It became quite obvious from the fact that it's name was on the sheath, and that it also could not be drawn by anyone but Saito, excluding his sister before she died). The sword was said to share the trait with others of it's kind of being especially good at slaying Oni. This befuddled Saito, as he was still curious how his sister had received it. Saito didn't put to much thought into it though, was he wanted to remember his sister as a kind women, not the murderer she had tried to be. He couldn't very well blame her, after all that happened to her. She had been. . . violated by Saito's eldest brother, and her psyche probably took a strong hit. Saito left too quickly to notice a change, and the guilt of that fact ate away at him.

Saito took out a leather sack and put all his weaponry and assassin uniform inside of it, keeping his katanas, and dagger on his person for safe keeping. He carefully slung the weapon sack onto his back, and began walking into the capital. When the guards began questioning his purpose for entering, Saito mumbled about the meeting he was meant to come to, and the guards instantly let him in. He quickly checked the sun, and guessed he had about three hours to do as he pleased. He began wondering what records they would have in regards to his family at the library, as his bloodline lived near the capital, so Saito quickly located that. He walked into the room, and after a short talk with the Librarian, discovered they indeed had records of the Takasu line. Saito gathered some reading material, and began to study his family history, hoping to find out more about the sword. He had assumed it had been a family heirloom, and he was hoping he was correct.

As the boy blessed by the gods looked out his breathtaking view of the city, only one thing was on his mind as he beheld the Takaga castle:
"Het ziet eruit als een reus-"
*AHEM*
The unfinished sentence was cut off with the clearing of his throat by the leading priest as they spoke in their native tongue.
"Ik zal voor je vertalen op de vergadering, maar ik wil dat je een geconcentreerde inspanning te leveren bij het proberen te begrijpen op uw eigen. Hier bespreken we:
'Ochtend, dag, nacht, hem, haar, het, eten, drinken, slapen, wekken, leven, sterven, zien, horen, ruiken, voelen, proeven, geven, nemen, ontvangen.' Ya?"

"Morning, day, night, him, her, it, eat, drink, sleep, wake, live, die, see, hear, smell, touch, taste, give, take, receive."

"Prachtig, goed genoeg voor nu, jurk en wij zullen gaan."

Soon the boy was dismissing his evening wear to a strange set of over-robes, these had to be ceremonial for the many layers he was suffering through. The silk was lighter than the linen and leather he was used to but its cut was unfamiliar and constricting to his small but broad shoulders. Down the stairs they went into a carriage where assorted breakfast awaited them of both Danishes and Dangos.

The ride was smooth but brief as they ate in mostly silence while the priest pointed to things for the boy to identify. before they exited the carriage they shared a prayer in Latin and exited the carriage with the boy now keeping a sword across his back as he was too small to keep it on his hip. With all the reverence and humility an eight year old disowned by his family can muster, he entered the castle that looked like a giant-*AHEM*

"Pon!" Akio took the discarded six of words to complete his triplet while his reckless opponent grimaced. Akio had concealed the suit he was going for the whole game thus far, but now it no longer mattered; The lack of discarded word tiles meant that the probability of him drawing one was fairly high. Just as he though. A few more rounds passed by and there was the eight he needed. "Mahjong!" Akio revealed his full flush, took 3000 points from each player, and won the game. His opponents were surprised by how quickly he had won, but Akio simply replied, "I guess I just got lucky today," and humbly took his winnings.

He hadn't planned on making a detour for a Mahjong game, but he had arrived at the capitol well ahead of schedule and needed to kill some time. He might as well make some money while he waited rather than spending it. Of course he had remembered to bring that wooden sword, Hasaki, with him. It was inside a secure wooden box, wrapped in cloth, and strapped to his back. Anybody who saw him would think he was just another merchant trying to stake is claim in the capitol with a few paltry goods. Such discretion was definitely a better choice seeing as he had no way of fending off a thief if somebody tried to steal the one thing that the Shogun requested. He wasn't sure how many people knew about these special swords, but if there were rumors about them floating about, he could easily imagine someone trying to steal one for a ransom.

As Akio finally approached the castle, he took a deep breath. He had never seen such an extravagant building before, and he certainly didn't belong in one. He had tried reading up on the proper etiquette, but there were so many different officials to address, and even if he remembered how to address them, there was know way he'd be able to recognize who was who. And, even though he had donned his finest set of clothes for this occasion, they were still just filthy rags compared to the splendor that resided within Takaga castle. Perhaps if he just bowed to everybody he could avoid offending anybody. Sure, he would be seen as an ignorant peasant, but that was pretty much what he was. In any case, he hoped his nerves didn't get the better of him and make him speak out of turn.

Chiemi Hanayo did not have time to admire the sunrise as the orange glow basked the capital of Kyushu in its glowing rays. She took a quickly glance to take notice of how the light played with the tall buildings and brightened up the dark corners of the streets, and how shadows crisscrossed across the cityscape to provide protection from the light, but that was all the time she took. Today was the day that she, along with a battalion of troops, would be briefed on a very important mission, a mission into Oni territory in an attempt to find a way to route the creatures. Chiemi had heard rumors about the 7 blades that were supposed to travel with the battalion on the mission and she had to admit the descriptions she had heard all seemed rather outlandish and fantastical, a blade that could sweep aside a dozen Oni in a single swipe and blades that made men strong or incredibly fast sounded as if they came straight out of a fairy tale. While she had her doubts about the usefulness of these legendary blades at least the leader of the mission was a man of honor and integrity.

Yasushi Miyoshi, was a great samurai with a fantastic record, honorable, and a good leader. If someone else had been in charge Chiemi would have had greater doubts about traveling back into Oni territory. Now, even if the legendary blades proved to be as amazing as described by some of the soldiers who she had trouble believing, partially due to their love of excessive alcohol, certainly there was no marvelous blade that could heal the sick and that is where her particular services would be particularly useful during the mission. A blade was only as strong as its wielder and it was her mission to make sure they were all up to the task, which is way she had been up 2 hours earlier, using her time in the capital to restock on her medical supplies, bandages, exotic herbs that would be impossible to find by foraging, and tea leaves that promoted health and strength.

While she was more of a country type of girl she was still no stranger to bartering and she knew well the value of the materials she needed. She played merchants against each other like a pro, "But you know, your rival on the other side of the street offered a much lower price for the same amount, I suppose I'll just have to go over there."

"Oh I'm sorry, did I say 10 mon? I meant 6 mon of course." The merchant clapped his hands together invitingly, but Chiemi did not bite, not yet.

"I think we both know you can go lower than that. I’m certain everyone would be shocked about how high your original price was.” Chiemi stared into the merchant’s eyes which tried desperately to find a chink in her armor but her no-nonsense sentiments made her eyes like steel.
“I can see you know your craft, alright I’ll concede.” Giving in, the merchant handed over the dried herbs which quickly found their way into Chiemi’s medical box, strapped on her back. Another bargain done, Chiemi moved on from that street stall in the capital market to continue her search for cheap materials. If they were going to be ready for the trials ahead no doubt she needed to be as prepared as she possibly could be.

Akane

"It's time to wake up, Akane. I will go to the castle now. You better be there on time. Remember: the meeting is in four hours."

Four hours? Yasushi must be as taught as a wire holding a very large blade in place, Akane thought, blearily. She rolled over and fell back into sleep's arms. Her dreams were unsettling, like those dreams dreamt in a state not-quite sleep tend to be. Great alabaster towers pierced seas of tar and challenged the heavy skies, only to be swept away by the winds as if they were feathers. Blank faces moaned incomprehensible prophecies. Akane tried to dispel the dire imagery, but to no avail.

Something must be bothering me, she told herself. Amber eyes wide open and fixated on the cieling, Akane tried to pin-point what was bothering her. Her father had taught her this method. Ever since she was very little, Akane's dreams were rather odd. Now she paid them no heed, but back then they were quite distressing. Once she had brought the issue to her father, and he had said:

"Troubled dreams are the sign of a troubled heart. Understand what troubles your heart, and your mind shall also be clear."

And so she had done then, and still she kept on doing. Akane considered her thoughts, in the most logical fashion she could think of. What events could be troubling me? The expedition, of course. What specifically? Do I fear leaving? That can't be right, I can't wait to leave! I've never been far north, it's going to be interesting. Do I fear the Oni? That's even less likely, they're the reason I want to leave, and besides, Brother has taken me to see some, they're kind of silly-looking actually, plus I have Inzen. I suppose I might be a little apprehensive about leaving, journeys have always set butterflies abuzz in my stomach. First I have to get to the castle... the castle! I have no idea where it is!

Akane darted out of bed. Her brother had neglected to mention that key detail, caught up as he was in his planning, no doubt. She'd never been to the Emperor's castle. Then again, it was a castle. Apparently, those are difficult to miss. Somewhat reassured, Akane set about getting ready. She stretched and yawned. Clothes would be necessary, as would be a bath, and she'd have to have someone take her gear to the Emperor's palace, no way was she taking that stuff with her. Grabbing Inzen, Akane made her way to the hotel's bathhouse.

Some time later, clean, clothed in her favorite red kimono, sword at her hip, she was ready to start an adventure. The streets were quite busy now. Akane liked busy streets. The beautiful cacophony was comprised of many different layers, each with their own story. You had the trudge of feet; but also the chattering of voices, discussing daily events; and the higher-pitched shouting of the vendors and the women. The colors were layered, too. The gold-brown dust kicked up, the faded colors of the masses, and the bright blue above them.

Absorbed as she was in her thoughts, Akane didn't even notice when a figure bumped into her.

Art supplies flew from his hands as Takeshi stumbled. He had been so preoccupied with his task that he'd walked straight into someone. Bending down, Takeshi scrambled to collect all of his things. He hadn't even had time to see who he had bumped into, but he let out a few quick apologies anyway.

"Don't be silly, I'm the one that should be apologizing!" Akane exclaimed. She bent to help the stranger with his supplies. He seemed quite eccentric -- he wasn't wearing a kimono, rather, a deep blue robe. He also had a sword.

"Say," Akane said, after having haphazardly moved some brushes in a direction vaguely closer to the man's hands, "you wouldn't happen to know where the Emperor's palace is, right? I, uh... have a commission in that area, but I've never been to the Capitol before."

Looking up from what he was doing, Takeshi finally noticed the person he had bumped into. Blushing as he realized that it was a very pretty young woman, Takeshi focused on picking up his supplies.

Akane pouted. "Excuse me, sir?" Maybe he was deaf, or mute.

Finally looking up again, Takeshi sighed. "I am sorry. I am just a little flustered today is all. I... I am actually on my way to the palace now. I suppose the least I could do is show you the way."

"Fantastic!" Akane slipped her arm through the man's. "Let's go, then!"

While not necessarily someone that would stand out under normal circumstances, sleeping belly-down on the branches of a large tree like a cat generally draws some form of attention. Kaido, being that particular 'someone' in the scenario, had caught more than a few glimpses from the population from the ground below. Even though Kaido had woken up, it was only about an hour later that he stirred. Drowsily stretching out his body, he let out a deep yawn. "Ahhn..." He sighed, as he scratched the back of his head. After pushing himself up and pulling up his hood, he asked himself a question. "Why am I in this tree, again?" Smacking himself in the face for answering 'I dunno', Kaido perked up and remembered what he was doing. "Oh right! The meeting thing!"

Hopping down from the branch with his rucksack slung on his back, Kaido figured that the best thing to do was to figure out what time it was. Pointing his sheathed sword to the sun, he began calculating. "The meeting is starting at midday, so.... I'd have about.... two hours?" He wasn't too sure about this guess, but he figured that he could just get the important details if he was late and that no one would care if he was early. With the spare time, he figured that he might as well visit Yasushi. Kaido had worked on a sword for his son several months ago, and thought it'd be nice to see how Yasushi's family was doing. "He'd probably be too busy later," Kaido reasoned. "He'll be cutting up demons 'n stuff once we get to the frontier."

As he walked to the castle, a mildly-disturbing thought entered his head: "If they cut up demons, is it safe to eat what's left?" After all, the supplies they bring could potentially run out. If that time comes, what should they do? While deeply pondering this question, he accidentally bumped into the very person he was looking for. However, not realizing that is was him, Kaido immediately broke into apologies. "Ah! Sorry, I wasn't paying attentio.... Hmm?" After staring for a moment, he finally realized who it was and started chuckling with a warm grin.
"Oh hi there, Yasushi!"

Takeshi Shun

Running around his small studio for the hundredth time that morning, Takeshi tried to find his kit of fine brushes. Cursing to himself for not being more prepared, he tossed some of his sketches off the table. "Ahh, there you are!" A smile lit his face as Takeshi grabbed the kit and stuffed it into his bag. That should just about do it. He thought, heading towards the door. As his hand graced the handle however, he paused. He felt like he was forgetting something... The sword! Placing his bag down, Takeshi ran back to his room. Reaching under the bed he found the sword, bundled up just as he had left it. Sighing with relief, Takeshi pulled the bundle out and fastened it around his shoulder.

Leaving his small studio behind, Takeshi adjusted his grip on the bag of art supplies before heading out towards the Emporer's Palace. It was decently busy out, and Takeshi was worried that he would be late for his meeting. He wasn't sure what the meeting was going to be about, all he really knew was that he had been instructed to show up, and to bring the sword with him. He wasn't sure what was so special about this blade, as far as he knew it was a simple decorative piece.

Not wanting to be late, Takeshi quickened his pace, the crowds were starting to gather, and he did not want to be caught up in them. Absently he reached into his bag and began pulling out various art supplies. He wanted to double check that he had brought everything. The instant his attention slipped however, was the same moment he bumped into the young woman.
After a brief exchange, the woman had slipped her arm through Takeshi's. At first he was taken aback, his face turning various shades of red. Remembering his manners, Takeshi swallowed nervously before nodding, and turning back the way he had been heading. "So, uh..." He began, "What kind of commision do you have at the palace?"

"Oh, I have to, uh, meet with some people," Akane replied, guardedly. "What about you?"

Noticing that she seemed a little hesitant to reply, Takeshi simply nodded his head politely. "My apologies, I do not mean to pry. I am also on my way to a meeting of sorts. Though I am not too sure what it will be about."

Akane nodded. "That's the castle, I'm pretty sure." She pointed at the building towering above them, even if it was still somewhat in the distance.

Looking where she had pointed, Takeshi smiled. "You are quite right. It doesn't look too far now..." He trailed off, not knowing what else to say. Takeshi wasn't much of a social person, especially around females. He was always a little too shy. Continuing towards their destination, Takeshi briefly wondered if he should try to make small talk.
