Raindash - I was refering to Vandy's idea with the bareface thing. I would say there is in fact face paint for Citadel-born Turians as quite a few live there.

Sixsmith - there are many reasons for leaving the Flotilla. While I want say its impossible to be an exile, I will say that every Quarian submission that has tried to use that device to join Nova in the past has been rejected. I suggest that if you go with it, you should research everything there is on it beforehand.

Some other suggestions if you're set on a Vas instead of a Nar - while the Flotilla uses Quarians on pilgrimage for its hands outside the fleet for the most part, such is not always the case. They conduct missions with Quarian marines and scientists fairly regularly, not in Citadel space but everywhere else is free. They send scout ships both ahead of the Flotilla and roaming across the galaxy in search of a new world that suits them. Individual Quarians are sometimes sent to gather particular vital supplies.

Granted none of these reasons are on their own enough to join up with the group, but if for example something were to happen to a scout ship, like if it were attacked on suspician of piracy (by Siame industries) and your character was one of those who survived, then you have a reason both to be away from the Migrant Fleet and join up with us specifically, and still not be against the Flotilla in any way.

That probably sounds like a better idea than I had. I figured that exiled Quarian was either overused or just way to rare to be logical and a convenient method to put a Quarian somewhere other than the fleet or on a pilgrimage like Tali.

I can probably run the idea I had by you, in regards to how I was going to handle his exile, just to gauge whether I should go with it or it would be better that I don't. Though, I certainly won't make it an integral part of his character just to keep from latching onto the idea too much and stifling anything else that might pop up in my brain.

Personally, I think that anything a Quarian could do to get exiled should be an integral part of their character. Exile is the single worst thing that can happen to a Quarian in their society, and is only done for the most horrific of transgressions against the entire Migrant Fleet. You can still run the idea past me if you like of course, but if you have any other ideas then they are probably better in terms of a method to have a Quarian off the fleet.

So, Sundered Echo, I was wondering. Do you think my character is at least something credible? Anticipation's been killing me.

Well, I should make it clear that I am not a GM for this first and foremost... Simply a lore buff and friend of Dervish. I'm doing GM type things while he's away to keep peoples enthusiasm up and make sure he's not bombarded when he does get back.

That being said, I can give my opinion on characters. Unfortunately though Makatsume (and anyone else wanting me to answer questions and such) you'll have to wait three hours or so for my opinion as I'm going out very shortly.

Keep questions coming though and I'll do my best to answer when I get back.

Oh, of course, I meant that I didn't want to make it an integral idea for the character in general so I wouldn't get too attached to it and not be open to anything else that could come my way or is a better idea. I'd definitely make it integral to the character itself because I understand most people who are exiled never really mean to betray the fleet or its people just for the fact that Quarians are very community driven and an empathetic people. Which is why I very much assume that exile or anything other than rudimentary punishment from captains are very rare among Quarians.

I also sent you my idea. I'm working out some others should it not be something that you think would help me integrate my Quarian logically into the group.

Said that too soon. Lewl. Just got your reply.

The space pirate attack is actually a pretty great example of a solution to the issues of having Quarian characters outside of the Migrant Fleet, and I think it works reasonably well. Not sure how Derv or Sunny feel about the pervo Turian, it seems a little strange, but I don't think it's entirely unrealistic. AS someone who has used the corrupt, irrevocably immoral politician trope for their own character backstory, maybe I'm giving it too much credit, but we'll have to see what Derv thinks about it.

You definitely should look over the backstory some more though. Take some time, sit down and just read it all through, slowly and carefully. There's a lot of run-on sentences and sort of partial thoughts, and it can make it a bit difficult to follow the flow of the story. Not trying to go all English-teacher on you, but I think it'll make your story much more readable and easy to parse. A thoughtful editing process might also give you more insight into the character and their motivations.

Damn, I would feel guilty for being gone this week if I weren't having so much fun. Big thanks to Sunny D for being a big old lore encyclopedia and helping out with people's questions. Please don't swarm him with inquires because he has enough games he's running. ;) He's just along for the ride this time.

In any case, I am very humbled by the massive reception this has gotten and it's going to take some time to read through everyone's hard work! I won't be back until Friday night most likely, so get to honing those sheets.

I would answer more questions, but alas I can't spend much time on my phone and vacation fun calls. My hotel has a water slide that will not ride itself, after all. Tomorrow should be going through bear country!

Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm, guys. Honestly, I find this both humbling and amazing. We're going to have one hell of a ride together!

Since we're all offering our characters up for roasting, is anyone willing to give my submitted character sheet (Aran Nykerius) a good scrubbing?

I don't have much time right now to say much, but I will say that personally (and note that my opinion is fairly worthless compared to Derv's) I really really dig Aran's "theme." It's really refreshing to have someone that's not combat oriented, and I think it would really flesh out our team. His backstory is also very good, if a bit short. There's a lot of room for expansion in there: not strictly necessary, but might be neat to read and develop the character.

Just a preliminary, still have tweaks and details to put in but that's basically what I came up with today. Hope you like and don't worry I plan on expanding his back story more before this begins, I'm not finished yet!

Profile Reconstruction

Name: Kalux Vitiate

Race: Turian

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Class: Soldier, Sniper

Appearance:
Kalux stands 6'5" and is slightly larger than the average Turian when it comes to weight. He has on many occasions been called "chubby" by his Human and Turian friends but most other species don't seem to notice. He has lightly colored skin with dark brown face paint which he adopted himself to avoid the bareface ridicule of his people and to better blend in with crowds. He usually wears small jewelry on the lowest part of his crest which many humans have described as "ear rings" He also always wears one of his fathers teeth around his neck as a sign of both the respect and hatred he had for the man.

Weapon List Diamond Back IV (Hahne-Kedar Shadow Works), Naginata IV (Ariake Technologies)

Equipment List Medium Mercenary Armor IV (Ariake Technologies), Frag, Smoke, and Flash Bang Grenades. A few small recon drones.

Powers: Adrenaline Rush, Assassination, Overkill, Incendiary and Armor Piercing Ammo, Concussive shot.

Talents: Medium Armor, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Immunity, Fitness

Background: Born on Omega in 2146 to Kyler (One of Aria's lieutenants) and Sia Vitiate, Kalux grew up around mercenaries and gangsters. From an early age Kalux was taught to use a weapon by his father. He was often brought along when his father conducted "business" which included everything from interrogation to bounty hunting and smuggling.

Kalux first killed at the age of eleven under the orders of dear old dad, A Batarian merchant had failed to pay Aria's "protection fees". He was forced to shoot the man in the head at point blank range, it was his fathers attempt to toughen him up since the young Turian would never serve in the Turian military like his father. This greatly impacted Kalux's life turning him into a sarcastic cynic, it also gave him an extreme hatred for his father for making him murder an innocent.

By the age of 14 Kalux became fully involved in his father's missions for Aria. He worked as a sniper and infantry style operative. In a year he became one of the most feared men on Omega, many believed he even passed up his father in sheer ability. When the Vorcha began taking territory in Omega's lower levels, Kalux and his father led Aria's counter attack. They stopped the entire Vorcha offensive in less than a month, however Kalux was severely injured from an explosion which put him in a coma for five years.

When he woke up at the age of 20 Omega was a different place with three different major mercenary groups having territory and deals with Aria. He also learned that his father was a traitor with a very large bounty on his head and that he killed his mother. Kalux spent the next two years tracking his father down. He finally killed him after a long firefight ending with his father taking a sniper round through the skull.

When he collected the bounty, he became a freelancer taking jobs from anyone with the money to pay him. He became one of the most famous bounty hunters in the galaxy doing jobs with people like Zaeed Massani. He became extremely wealthy and developed a habit of drinking and gambling which often got him in trouble with both legitimate governments and mercenary groups. The Eclipse in particular has a problem with him seeing that he owes the organization a substantial amount of money (which he refuses to pay.)

As his gambling debts rose, Kalux needed a more stable job than bounty hunting with a more steady paycheck. Therefore he began the rigorous screening process of becoming a private mercenary for Siame Industries at the age of 26. He signed a five year contract with the group taking jobs chasing pirates who raided worlds under Siame protection. He made it his personal agenda to harass Eclipse often taking jobs in which Siame was raiding their bases and even bringing high level Eclipse mercs into custody.

Siame gave Kalux command of a small squad of elite mercenaries called the Crimson Rifles to carry out bounty and protection jobs for the company. They became a very reliable asset for the company pulling off incredible jobs including on specific raid against the Blood Pack in which they killed a thousand year old Weyrloc warlord. They became very famous throughout Siame Industries and the company began renting them out to legitimate governments such as the Turians and the Alliance in attacks against Batarian slavers.

The Crimson Rifles were present on Elysium during the Batarian attack in 2176 trying to gain Siame a protection contract with the colony. However they ended up in a massive firefight on the ground trying to hold the line against a battalion of Batarians (with the help of Alliance marines). They were pushed back and half of Kalux's squad and all of the marines were killed along with a rather large number of civilians. Kalux saw this as a personal failure as did his employers. He and his team spent the last year of their contracts protecting unimportant colonies, none of which saw any action.

At the age of 31, Kalux's contract with Siame expired, he and the Crimson Rifles became freelance. Kalux decided to renew his grudge with Eclipse and began harassing their operations at every opportunity. The Rifles even went as far as helping Blue Suns take territory from the Eclipse on multiple planets including Omega (Kalux saw some irony in that.)

Eventually the Eclipse attacked Kalux's base of operations, stealing all of his substantial wealth and killing every member of his team. Kalux was severely outnumbered and only allowed to live because the Eclipse boss, an Asari named Sevra Dolrias, was feeling "generous." Eclipse quickly spread the word of how the legendary bounty hunter was defeated, his reputation suffered greatly.

Kalux had to begin again taking on small, badly paying jobs that were far below his skill level. He was delivering a runaway slave back to the Batarians on Torfan when the Alliance attacked (a job he was in no way proud of.) He fought with the Batarians holding the Alliance soldiers back until the moon was overrun. Kalux barely escaped with his life and is now being hunted by the Alliance as an enemy of humanity, putting him at odds with his old employers Siame who recently signed a contract with the Alliance. He is now hiding out on Cartagena Station until everything blows over. However he might be willing to work with a certain group of criminals if the pay is right, at least they were going after the right people.

Sovi3t, while we enjoy helping, you cannot simply ask us to improve your history in such a general manor. As Derv said, I am running other games and cannot do everything for everyone. My suggestion is that you go and do some research (aka go for a wikiwalk on the Mass Effect Wiki), as well as look over your sheet carefully for inconsistencies and edit accordingly.
I am still quite happy to answer questions of a more specific nature though, as time permits me to!

For those asking for sheet reviews, I'm afraid I'll not be doing anything too in depth for anyone as reading sheets and replying with feedback can take quite a while, and I still have my own sheet to finish (Salarian Hitman). That said, I'll try and at least do a brief review as I'm gonig to end up reading them all at some point anyway. Might as well be now.

The current tallies for applications (for those wondering, after the "too many/not enough turians" discrepancy) are:

Male: 9, Female: 4
Infiltrator: 2, Soldier: 4 (counting Vandy's soldier/sniper class here, not under Infiltrator), Adept: 2, Vanguard: 3, Engineer: 2
Batarian: 1, Human: 3, Quarian: 1, Drell: 3, Krogan: 1, Asari: 1, Turian: 3.

I'm either making a Quarian female scientist (so probably Engineer) or a Volus male very-non-combat-oriented character. Likely the former, 'cause although the second would be rather interesting and hopefully fairly original, there may be some practical aspects of playing a volus that makes life difficult for myself and others.

I feel sort of bad after doing this, but in order to counter-act Daryna's powers (which are significant) I've effectively given her a Drell combination of Alzheimer's and Schizophrenia. Had to make up a bit of Drell lore but I think I explain it away well enough. She'll be that much more interesting to play (crossing my fingers). I'm also starting to make some shadow broker type dossier files, although I kind of made myself sad (again) while thinking of her extranet search terms.
