Ohhhhh, that's Zump. Either I've not been paying attention or people have really low standards for what qualifies as a 'Nat clone', because I haven't seen them display that.

I didn't say they were, I just included anyone who was seen that way. Also Larfleeze, you should do a post too. You kinda hang out on the outside (on purpose I assume), and I'd like to know more about you.

I'll give it a shot."what drew you to rping?", Well, so, I first found out about rping when I first discovered the desolate waste land of the Spore Forum. I read up on it, looked at a couple of sites and liked the idea of a "game", and a "collaborative story", where anything can happen. "where'd you get your username from?", This ones sort of funny. If you stalked me, you would know that I use my username on any site I use, not very safe, I know. I first thought up my username when I was six or seven and joined Club Penguin. My girl-cousins showed the game to me. "what about Spam appeals to you?" I like being part of a community, I also like how you can post anything, within reason, to have a conversation that happens naturally. I came to spam for the games, and although they're sparse, I like those too. This is part of the reason I "idolized" Nat, I thought there was a niche I could fill there, when I thought Nat was loved and accepted, not that I won't like someone who isn't, and didn't realize my actions would be frowned upon."what are your other interests besides roleplaying/writing?" I like to read, and play computer games. XD I prefer multi player games, or MMOs. (I play almost anything done by Artix Entertainment.) I do a little bit of soccer and want to try out for the school team, I'm a little nervous though, they take the game a lot more seriously than I do. I also am a Boy Scout, I do with my church. I am apart of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, or a Mormon to most. I am in middle school. I also aspire to be an Astro Physicist when I get a career. I also like to make tops out of random things. I am also really good at writing choppy sentences. I am human. There, now all you sharks may feed on me since you caught me in your trap.P.S.My favorite ____ is:animal: Axolotl.band: Imagine Dragonscomic: Axe CopAsk away.

Thanks Joe, insightful answers. I had the same attraction to rping when I was around 13. It seemed like there were so many possibilities.

Wow. Yes it does. How did I not notice this? Anyway, I made it up on the spot as "Zump1" for a Poptropica account and never bothered to come up with anything else (outside of changing it slightly). My "anti-nat-clone back story" is that I live in Melbourne, Australia, but I've been so deeply ingrained with those cyber safety pamphlets and talks that I'd rather not say my actual age. I'm a guy, which I think everyone assumed already, although I cried at The Fault In Our Stars and have very girly hair.I joined the Guild mostly because no-one around me really does roleplaying, and this stigma has sort of been attached to those who do. I found the Guild, read some posts, and decided it was awesome. Also, saying "the Guild" sounds badass. My non-RP interests include writing(which is kinda the whole point of RPs, but...), drawing, combining the two in some form, video games, soccer, tennis and last but not least: riding the Information Superhighway in search of a "byte" to eat (get it?).I hope that this isn't the randomly generated "profile" used by Nat clones or something...

Nah you're fine, you sound like you. Melbourne eh? It's supposed to be pronounced 'melbin', right? my aus friends always ragged on me when I said "mel-born." lol

Soccer is awesome, played it as a kid. And I used to be super paranoid too, I still don't give out my last name if I can help it.

I think you told me the languages part, but I didn't fully realize this. We're like mirror images for major.

Alex said I like to believe there's a lot of power in a name - someday I'll be an apellomancer.

Wowzer. No actually I agree somewhat. I chose 'Doivid' for newguild because that's what I went by on skype and in general, and I just didn't feel 'tripmyhop' was me anymore, it was sort of a ~persona~ I picked to test the waters in spam. But hey, as it turns out, it hasn't exactly been a sea change from there to here--with a few exceptions. Also true story: when I was like 17 I had this short dream which was just me repeating some dumb sounding name, and I actually woke up saying it under my breath. Really one of my only "wow I'm sure that totally happened" type of dream stories, the rest are mostly gibberish. Anyway at the time I picked up the first Earthsea book and so I really bought into the whole 'secret power name' nonsense, and kept the name to myself. Now I just do it out of embarrassment. and I'm pretty sure the dream happened coz at the time I was constantly wracking my brain to come up with new and creative character names for an rp. lol

But yeah, I still believe in name=power in some ways.
Alex said Grand Strategy games like that have done wonders for my geography skills. Which is also a fun thing. I almost won my state geography bee when I was in middle school!

Joe, I say with all honesty that I want to accept you, I want you to get along with the people here. You have to stop posting as many threads as you do, and you have to stop replying to everything. Think about what you say here before you post, take some time responding to something and consider if it's worth even saying or will it just make you look dumber than you truly are. These are good skills for life later on, trust me.

It can be really cool to be the guy that only talks when he has something important or cool to say, just try it.

Deal

Hi I'm Elendra. I got into RPing on some anime appreciation website that I do not remember the name of at all any more. It would have probably been the first result of the time (2006 or 2007) that I googled for it. The reason I got into it there was because it was a thing where I could write and so therefore it was awesome! My hobby of writing is actually much older, stemming back to 1998? I think it was, when I broke my leg left femur. I was no longer really capable of doing more physical pursuits for a long time, so I took to writing and playing Star Craft (Zerg mostly) and the other game I remember is Axis and Allies. I didn't know who Nazis were back then, although young me thought their uniforms were cool. Now I know about all the awful things they did and still think their uniforms were cool. Some things don't change, I suppose.

ANYWAY more background, as I grew older due to various psychological and physical ailments afflicting me, I became more and more introverted and didn't hang out with others as much, so I took to interactions online in lieu of that as that was something I could do without having to leave, which by the time I Was on the guild wasn't really an option. I moved from suburbia to a very rural area sometime around 3rd or 4th grade. Neopets was the first place I went to for years and then I was at an anime fan board as mentioned. I didn't stay around there too long as the general anime talks didn't interest me as much as the roleplaying did, and so I did what I felt was responsible, and went in search for dedicated RP websites.

Now I know I've actually lied about the origin of the name Elendra. Random keys from the back of a CD case, I even picked out one for that story. No, the actual case of it was Elendra was the name of a background mythological figure in the last RP that I did on the anime fan board. And yet, Elendra wasn't my first name when I went elsewhere, and the Guild wasn't the only place I went. I believe I had a stint on Gateway, and another place that I think either had something to do with starlight or whatever. I don't necessarily remember my names from those ties, although I think one of them was Qiatar, based on a fake persona I made up to play tricks on my friends? I forget the specifics. This was also around the time I started to play Cybernations (a game I later confused for Nation States until I actually played Nation States) and I also RPed through wiki pages or something along those lines in that game, which was my first delving into Nation RPs.

Anyway, around the time I joined the Guild for the first time (Sometime around November 2007), I was doing a NRP wherein the people were divided into elemental based castes (a thing I later found done much better with the Tau in W40K) and the ruling caste in my nation was Earth Caste. That became my name on the guild because yeah that had a ton of staying power. I stayed around for about half a year, before I started to get worse IRL and stopped coming around. Also because I started doing a lot of MMOs. Like City of Heroes which was so super fun oh my god I still am not happy that it's dead grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr so many good times RPing there. My first time /crying/ because of something that happened in RP was because of a character, Etoile Fleche, who through a long series of drama (See months) broke up with her girlfriend for another girl whom she spent weeks converting from evil to good and just ugh I can't adequately explain the feels. It wasn't planned OOC, but it made sense IC and it was emotional ;_; much crying by all parties involved in and out of character. The next time I was on the guild was almost a full year later in February 2009 on my second account. Elendra. I had stumbled upon the name again while clearing out old RP documents that I had saved (Rereading any that were interesting). I liked the name way back when, I liked it then, I like it now. So I took the name.

I've been Elendra online for most everything ever sense, and actually as I've had so much emotional healing, good friends, and such with this name as me, it's uh... actually the name I'm thinking of taking when/if I get the sex change I want. I've only gotten sicker in body but healthier in mind, and when you're online so much, who you are online matters and becomes just who you are in general. While Elendra isn't my actual name, I prefer it to my actual name and like... I dunno. Elendra / Elly / El is who I am now, and I'm honestly glad about it. Roleplaying and particularly the Roleplayerguild and its users helped me make friends, work out issues, and become more confident and secure in who I am.

Why was I attracted to spam? Well when I was still a 'new elendra' on the guild, I was really only accepted in the IRC, and well sometimes back then they were HUGE dicks and didn't make me feel welcome or comfortable but I still wanted to talk with people without it being tied to RPs and so that left off topic (which I felt was too serious) and Spam, which at the time reaaaaaaaaaaaaally didn't like me either. I was some new guy who wanted attention, and was an idiot at that. I thought being silly or funny would get it, but nope. I saw that positive attention was given to those who did projects, and so I totally did something to get people to like me. I did AARs and Blorbs and boy howdy did Blorbs work. I mean it also made a lot of people say mean hurtful things to me, but, y'know, whatever. It got me to be a name in Spam, people who were initially hostile to me began to accept me, and well, now I'm where I am now with lots of people. I've matured a lot since then, opened up to others, and now I have more friends than even my constant drive to put up neon signs pointing at myself wanting people to be nice to me could ever have hoped for. It took a big act of 'not being an annoying kid' to get my foot in the door, and now I'm pretty sure that my friends here aren't friends because of the things I do, but because of who I am.

Feels good, man.

But uh, interest besides Roleplaying and writing? I like to draw, blorbs and their wonderful world mostly. I'm getting a lot better at it thanks to like, years of practice. I love reading, I love ancient cultures, languages, and mythology. I could tell you a list of reasons from memory about why Tezcalipoca is a huge dick who ruins everything and yet is still supremely awesome. I could tell you stories from many cultures, and while I get some details wrong, and don't always remember the names (or say them correctly, eeesh that's hard sometimes), it's usually pretty good for someone who's just a hobbyist in it. I like Strategy Games, Turn Based, Real Time, and Grand varieties. I play music, mostly piano, but also trapset drums. I've even written a few pieces, it's pretty fun. Uhm, while I haven't done it lately, I would like to get back into computer science. When I was in highschool before I dropped out due to complications involving my health, I was actually bumped ahead a whole year in computer science because I mastered the first year's material, AND most of the second year's material in a couple of months. I made a tonnes of little games, including a bullet hell, a sidescroller beatemup, and a text based adventure game with turnbased RPG battle system. I've also recently (of the last year or so?) become fans of the Youtube channels of Nerdcubed and Two Best Friends Play. Funny stuff.

But really, my biggest interest is just... making things. Whether it's making a RP, a story, blorbs, a minecraft house, music, things out k'nex or lego, or whatever. I like creating.

Eh, why not, I have nothing better to do as of now anyway.

"what drew you to rping?"
Funnily enough, I never had an interest in Role Playing as I was more of a drawer than a writer, I actually hated writing when I was younger, but now I enjoy it, that is if I can actually write and not waste time procrastinating. Anyway, the Oldguild was my first role playing experience, a friend invited me several months before it went down, I never really did stuff on it though. It wasn't until when the site came back up that I actually started participating.

"where'd you get your username from?"
This guy, he's a DC character.
I love him, he steals stuff and wants everything, he's my spirit animal, also he's super into Christmas and idolises Santa

"what about Spam appeals to you?"
I honestly don't know, I'm just here for some reason...Like a weird smell.

"what are your other interests besides roleplaying/writing?"
Reading, I'll read almost any genre, Graphic Novels included, my particular favourites being the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series of novels and 'At the Mountains of Madness' by H.P Lovecraft. As for Graphic Novels (or comics, whatever you want to call them.) I will read DC, Marvel, Vertigo or Image, I'm currently reading Saga which is pretty good, I'd recommend it if you like Star Wars or Game of Thrones.
I also enjoy drawing, I'm not that good but whatever, I just do it to stave off boredom.
Forgot to mention, I also like learning languages, my favourite being German, for some reason I like the sound of German music, no idea why.

I should take a stab at this, I'm bored.

I first started looking into RPing just as an outlet for writing. I had written a few short stories of my own as a wee middle-schooler, and then started to look for something else to do with my writing. I believe I just googled "roleplay online" and RPG came up. I lurked around for a bit to get a feel of the place, and eventually made an account under the name "Skillcape", I was into Runescape at the time, don't judge me. My very first post was in a casual roleplay about a "school for the gifted" (how original). I had not posted in the OOC for it, nor had I posted in the Interest Check. No, I just jumped right into it and wrote like 5 paragraphs, just to get shut down because I hadn't signed up for it or made a character bio. How lame, right? Fun fact, I've never actually posted more than 3 times in a roleplay on this website. Just gave up on all of them

I took up the name "Eight" for no particular reason, it's my favorite number and I was surprised it wasn't taken, so I just jumped on the chance to use it. Later on, around a year ago, I got the mods to change it to "8" in the name-change thread. Fun fact, I am the only RPG member with a username under three characters.

Spam is a rad place because of the tight-knit community, the ability to say (almost) whatever I want, and be myself. That being said, for the longest time and until just recently I put on many personas, in an attempt to be cool or fit in. I don't know, being myself is cool though. I'm cooler than any fake personality I can come with, nine times out of ten. I tend to leave and rejoin Spam a lot, taking hiatuses lasting anywhere from a month to a year. I always come back though

Other interests besides roleplay/writing would include fashion and design, watching absurd amounts of documentaries, listening to music, and to a lesser-extent, video games. I recently bought a Wii U which has kept me a bit occupied, but it's the only console I own. My PC unfortunately is broken to the extent I cannot play games on it, even though my Steam library is rather large. When (if) I graduate high school, I'd like to pursue a degree in some form of multimedia or design. I either want to end up making documentaries, or designing clothing.

Sorry for not writing much, I like to keep things short.

haha look at me i'm defying your thread by posting when i'm not new! #occupyspam What drew me to roleplaying?I found out what roleplaying was back when I played runescape (shutup don't judge). I wanted more than what the runescape community could provide, so I looked up "roleplaying forum" and the guild was the first link. I joined, lurked a bit, and joined my first roleplay. It was very attack-on-titan-esque, the last city on the edge of nowhere. We were all defenders of the last bastion of civilization. I was some weaboo angel thing if I remember correctly. After that roleplay fizzled out I joined another one where everyone was magical sentient animals. I was a fox. I liked roleplaying because at the time, I was in a dark point in my life and writing helped. My self-image was built on perceiving myself as intelligent, and what is more intelligent than a good writer? This was all about 6 years ago. I later found IRC and stuck around there, making friends as I went. By the time I had become an IRC regular, I had stopped posting on the guild, only visiting the site to access the mibbit client. After a brief stint on GAIA Online (Again, don't judge. We've all done things we regret) and tried roleplaying there for a while. Eventually around 09 I came back due to a friend in IRC asking me to join a roleplay, some scifi colonization thing. While waiting inbetween posts, I found the Off-Topic forum (This was before spam even existed, mind you), and fell in with that crowd. Ultimate523, Zoec, Azarthes, Dlayeth and others. I quickly became a regular to those dens of silliness and quirky humor. I stuck around after the separation of spam and forum games from off-topic, and have been a regular in spam ever since. What appeals to me about spam is the fact that I feel connected to a lot of the people here - though now I feel less connected, especially now that a lot of communication with those people has moved to off-site mediums. What do I do other than roleplay/spam? Well, apparently the only other facet of my personality is my sexuality according to some sources, so there's that.My interest is in computers. I'm heading off in august to study computer science at NYU. Should be interesting! I also like linguistic and languages, I'm trying to fit in some classes where I can test those waters as well. Two years ago I was an exchange student to Belgium, and lived with Beglian families and got the experience of a lifetime. I know speak fluent French. My current goal is to make myself start studying Italian in my free time - it's pretty fun from what little I've taught myself.Well, hopefully this helped some of you get to know me better. I'm just a nub after all Edit: Oh snap I forgot to answer why I chose my usernameWell, my first username was Yondaime. I was a narutard back when I first joined.I later had my name changed to Sora, which is what most people know me as now. The reason I changed it was to merge my two guild identities - on IRC I had been going as Sora for some time, and was getting tired of being called Yondaime. Plus Sora was easier to type. Plus Sora wasn't /quite/ as shameful as Yondaime was.(The evolution of my irc handle is a whole other story in and of itself. I'll not share it for now.)When the guild fell, I saw an opportunity to turn over a new leaf, so I chose a more self-series handle: Alex. People still call me Sora, and that's fine. I still respond to that anyways.I like to believe there's a lot of power in a name - someday I'll be an . Warning: Oglaf link that is actually safe for work.Edit 2: Adding to things that interest me: Paradox games are amazing. You've probably seen my 4 aborted attempts at doing AARs of Crusader Kings. Grand Strategy games like that have done wonders for my geography skills. Which is also a fun thing. I almost won my state geography bee when I was in middle school!Cartography is a fun thing I sometimes do, though I'm not horribly good at it. I mostly stand on the shoulder of giants.
