It is the year 2076, and the realm of the virtual and the internet has drastically progressed the last fifty years, to the point where, in Japan, the first entirely digital academy has opened its digital door this year to the growing population of young hermits in the capital and the countryside. You are one of these social outcasts, dubbed hikikomori, and have been taking refuge in your room for quite some time. Will this be the key to getting out of your self imposed slump?

The entry to this new institution is simple; have a working computer, an access to the internet, a virtual reality helmet and finally buy and download the file. Once there, you will be able to create your avatar and be placed in your first evaluation test to see where you stand in our premium education.

This could be the chance of a lifetime, will you take it?



Hikikomori Virtual Academy, or HVA for short, is a brand new attempt at bringing education and socialization to the growing population of hikikomori in Japan and, hopefully, bring them back into the fold of society. A virtual construct made for the best technology could offer, it is so lifelike that the users are able to touch, hear, see and even taste this virtual reality as it was made of physical components instead of a clever manipulation of bodily chemicals. Even more remarkably, however, is the ability to temporarily bring back lost senses or limbs within the confines of this make-believe academy.

Created by Kurozawa Enterprises and set upon the biggest server in the world, this marvel of technology is reachable with an access to internet and a Virtual Helmet, the latest in gaming controls. Half a game, half a formidable opportunity, the Academy is set to bring enlightenment of the mind and spirit by stimulating the fancy and training it's user into a healthy lifestyle, that it may be physical, mental or social.

The landscape and campus ever changing to fit the whims and needs of its users, the entirety of possible areas has been designed by the best architects of the world, and possess over a thousands different rooms and area as well as lifelike weather, temperature control and soundtracks. Once can change the sounds to a soothing or even energetic music by merely stating so, the same going for the world seen from windows or in the distance and the weather.

The courses, ranging from introductory to doctorate-level, are tailored for each student via a series of evaluation and questionnaire, providing each students with a challenging and stimulating experience, whatever path may it lead them to.



From High School age to the Golden Years, each student is welcome as long as they provide effort in their studies and are not harmful to other students. Upon first login, each student will be provided with the choice of a Persona, complete with an alias to promote anonymity and a carefree experience for all. A series of Tutorial and Examinations will be given at either need or demand, and Physical, Mental or Social Points will be handed for each good or exceptional effort made. Those points will be used to reach a set quota of grades, access more complicated courses, unlock special events and even gain special ability through their sacrifice.

While the general appearance of a student on the outside world is expected to be average or even bland, the Persona can take any humanoid form, from bright pink hair to pointed ears. Likewise, with enough practice, a student can far outperform their usual body in feats of athleticism, and thus should be careful when exiting the Academy as to not injure themselves in overconfidence.

Personality: A kind hearted individual, Lily is shown to be calm and hardly shows any signs of temper. Often acting extremely polite and regal. Having grown up in England, she has a English accent and tends to love tea and simple foods. However, despite her calm demeanor, she is highly curious of her surroundings, especially now that she is able to attend the virtual reality school. Stubborn and confident, she doesn't take no for a answer a is already ready to try new things, even if they aren't the best ideas. Being blind since birth, she doesn't usually react badly with slipped words of it, but usually is pretty bitter about it. A reason she doesn't mention it in the virtual reality. Hardly does she ever talk about her family.

Prior History: Lily was born into a wealthy family between a English woman and a Japanese man. Blind since birth, her father usually ignored her, feeling she was a dishonor to his family line. She grew up in England until she was ten, learning English and how to behave like a proper noble lady. They then moved to Japan for business for her father, where she stayed at home with her mother. Her older sister was a bit more of a dilliequent compared to her, and was always running off. Her father was always displeased, considering her sister was to take over the family business. Not long after their move however, her mother passed away and her father was left to care for her. Continually, she was disciplined to be the "perfect" lady, to at least look pretty and proper for her fathers guests. A doll. Much of the rest of the years, or the event of her mothers death, Lily doesn't talk about... But when she heard about this program just a year ago, she pleaded to her father to give her this last request. After some time, he agreed as long as she promised to be noble in the next two years. She promised, and is now happily going to attend the Hikikomory Virtual Academy.

Sexuality: Could go either way, though she's not usually one to make advances on her own due to naivete

Personality: Quick to energy, quick to boredom, Sophie starts every project strong, but like a lightning bolt, her enthusiasm peters out quickly. Around people, she's very friendly and amicable, but her usual disinterested expression makes most strangers hesitant to approach her. Even when she's invested in a project or conversation, her face isn't particularly expressive, and she tends to just look bored. Because she's older than a lot of people she interacts with, she tries to play off a 'big sister' type role, though she usually botches any attempt to properly give advice. She's not very good with words and has more than a few strange speech quirks picked up from anime or just mistranslations due to her not being a native Japanese speaker, and not even knowing english very well either.

Demeanor: Extremely casual, to the point of seeming disrespectful in Japanese society. She acts like a loner, but tries to always be friendly and hang around people when she can.Unfortunately, she doesn't have any real friends, so this is limited to internet relations.
Fashion Style: Usually wears bright, fashionable clothes, as long as they're baggy or loose enough to be comfortable. Often seen in shorts no matter the weather, and her clothes are almost always loose and her jackets open since she hates being warm.

Prior History: Originally from Canada, her family moved to Japan when she was just entering school. However, Sophie barely had a grasp on english and didn't know a word of Japanese. Culture Shock and disorientation drove her into a corner, emotionally, and she struggled for three years in an english speaking school before flat out refusing to go any longer. Her parents struggled, and eventually her mother changed jobs so that she could work from home and put Sophie through a home schooling program at the same time. Her father made more than enough to make ends meet at his job, but he was never home because of that. This ritual continued until she was 18, when her mother passed away due to illness. The family suffered greatly at this loss, but Sophie and her father had never been attached to each other all that much in the first place, so it was decided that nothing would change. Sophie was not a minor anymore, so she could stay home and continue her studies on her own, and her father would continue to work as usual and give her a monthly allowance to feed and clothe herself.
However, the world outside was harsh, and for a sheltered girl who couldn't really speak english or Japanese all that well, it was even more cruel. Sophie created a bubble around herself. She perpetually stayed home and browsed the internet or indulged in anime and games all day, and ate convenience store food for every meal. Her father worked longer hours than he ever had, often staying at a company hotel, and gave her more than enough money, but no attention or support whatsoever. Even when she took up smoking and developed a caffeine habit, it took her father four years to notice, and he never said a word about it.
As one benefit, though, Sophie was nothing if not well-studied, and when she heard about the HVA, she passed the bar, at least the academic one, with flying colors. Her allowance was more than enough to afford whatever she needed to attend the school, and she sets out to start from scratch in a place where maybe she wouldn't be so harshly judged for her background or the way she speaks.

Greatest Dream: Sophie wants to learn a lot of different languages so that she can communicate with anybody around the world.
Greatest Fear: Intensely afraid of the dark, to the point where she physically seizes up.

Personality: He's misanthropic and cynical. He likes to work alone. Given the choice, he'd lock himself into his room and never come out, but he's also painfully aware that won't work. He hates his natural good looks. He likes to think outside of the box, looking down at those that can't adapt. He doesn't like to be around conflict and will go out of his way to avoid it. Arrogance is sometimes a problem for him as he feels he can do anything he needs to by himself. He wants to change his attitude towards people, but cannot trust them. He dislikes pretending to be someone else.

Demeanor: Some people act how their personalities are, but Ryujii puts on a front. He wears a fake smile in public while internally hating himself for it. He socializes with people when the approach him, but they have to be the ones to approach. His cynicism comes off as sarcasm, but the misanthropy sometimes comes out making for an uncomfortable scene.
Fashion Style: He typically wears clothing that make him look normal to the point where no one notices him, but his naturally good looks makes even ordinary stuff stand out.

Prior History: Born a native of Japan, Ryujii's life started out hard. Mother had died from childbirth and Father became a broken alcoholic that beat him almost every day. Not knowing how to deal with the pain he received every day, he would have temper tantrums at school and get into fights which would only lead to more beatings. Eventually he stopped getting into fights and went into his own world. Escaping was just easier. The year middle school started his Father on a drunken rampage ended up getting hit by a car and put into the hospital where he would eventually die. Ryujii was then sent to a relative's home and he transferred schools. At his new school, he became popular very quickly and his new parents were nicer to him. With this clean slate he decided to try and be friendly as well, but he could not forget the backstabbing and the bullying he had lived through and instinctively kept people an arm's length away.

A teacher noticed the unusual behavior he had and investigated him with the permission of his new parents and the principal, after finishing his investigation he approached Ryujii with information about the HVA. Ryujii thought about it for a long time before deciding to give it a try.
Greatest Dream: Be able to operate properly in society without pretending to be someone else.
Greatest Fear: Violence and People

Name: Soga Taiichiro

Gender: Female

Age: 12

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality: A taciturn, angry young prodigy, Soga is haughty and difficult to speak to. She is often sarcastic to the point of being caustic and is well aware she is much smarter than other children her age and most adults. Rarely speaking directly to anyone, Soga prefers to write her demands down so she isn’t forced to engage in conversation. Even her nurse tends to steer clear of her. She tends to lash out at anyone who gets close, insulting and belittling them. Underneath all of this, Soga is a brilliant girl who wishes she could be normal. More than anything, she wishes she could be average. She is very lonely.

Likes: Cats, furry things, strawberry-flavored candy, mathematics, music

Dislikes: Pity, stupid people, being treated like a child, being looked down upon

Demeanor: Soga always greets people while sitting up. Even in her wheelchair she is a commanding presence and her posture is always straight and tall (or as tall as a four-foot-three child can reasonably be). She is fierce and authoritative, like a miniature princess, but she would disdain the moniker. She does her best to appear calm and in control at all times.

Fashion Style: She is fond of traditional Japanese garments and usually wears child-sized kimonos. Nearly all of them are pink. She has a few special-occasion yukata and kimonos, but she never wears them, as she never goes out.

Prior History: The child of geniuses, Soga was born with a rare genetic defect that permanently crippled her. She has a malformed heart that requires her to remain sequestered in her bedroom at the expensive research hospital where her parents work. In her isolated little bower on the top floor, Soga perches in a bed by the window, lording over her domain while the occasional nurse skulks in or out with food and medicine. When she feels up to it, she occasionally takes her wheelchair for a short jaunt down the hallway, but this tends to tire her out, so she rarely leaves her room. Her copious spare time is spent mastering various subjects; Soga has always taken solace in learning and she is already a doctoral candidate in mathematics. Her parents originally tried to take an interest in their child, but Soga gradually chased them away. By now, their relationship is strictly professional—Soga’s mother is her cardiologist and her father is her pediatrician. She technically has other doctors, to avoid conflict of interest, but her parents are actively involved in the administration of her treatments.

It was into this sad, lonely life that Hikikomori Virtual Academy initially came. Visited by a representative of the school, Soga agreed to attend after hearing about the Persona program and the anonymity promised. She now spends half of her time in the simulation. The other half is devoted to her thesis.

Greatest Dream: To be a pop singer.

Greatest Fear: That she will die alone, in the hospital.

What do they want to do and learn in the Academy?: Soga wants to know what it feels like to be normal. She has never really interacted with anyone her age and the only other people she speaks to are related to her care. She has never had a friend.
