We will for generations argue the causes for the latest Great War. For what reasons it was fought for, why it transpired, and exactly who won. But for all the territory it covered, and for its tangled complexity there may never be a clear answer. For the years it destroyed. For all purposes it may be convenient for the common man to measure its values based on their political feelings. But now the days after are still young. We are crippled by the war's effect. Too bruised are we to have to look back on the trauma we faced collectively as people we once held as brothers died in soiled fields at the rocket's fire.

We race of men have long killed each other on the field of battle. We once held it as honorable and romantic. But as the taste of war waned out of the civilized world we forgot how brutal it was. That sense of inhumane brutality replaced with a second wave of Romanticism, fueled by the movie consuming youths playing their games in darkened basements. We lusted for a blood that was nonexistent. And we forced them to see the cruel inhuman practice that is war.

It took fifteen years until the carnage ended. Fifteen long years to uproot nations and destroy generations. We adapted, as we often do. But at what cost? A year after and we still have not found out...

______

New Order – A Post Third World War RP was originally created and GMed by Duck55223 and passed down to me.

The setting of the RP is as simple as it sounds. After fifteen years of harsh international warfare - 2025-2039 - the world is a year after recovering from brutal conflict across a number of fronts. In terms of scale and the loose alliances and involvement by the many belligerent nations across the world it could be called a World War to the tune of the First and Second Great Wars, it can also be looked at as a period of harsh conflict in which a multitude of massive, large-scale wars burned across the globe.

Suffice to say, after such a conflict what changes have been made to the future politics of the nations could have given way to stark political shifts, or will soon be as the national citizenry chew over whether or not the War was worth it. There isn't a clear nonobjective answer to that, not in the same way the Second World War was coined as being a war against Fascism and Imperialism soon after the fact. But you probably don't want to know that. So what was The War?

Apart from being a number of wider conflicts across the world, The War was also the small-scale exchange and deployment of chemical and nuclear weapons focused on a number of hot or strategic positions, in addition to the conflicts of national interests in each of the theaters. For RP purposes I won't divulge all the details on all the theaters and some will be better written than most. I do this because I'm not lazy, nor do I have anything important to reveal later; but merely I wish for the rest of us to write these theaters. As well, the Theater descriptions are written out of current knowledge divulged or discussed in the previous thread.

These Theaters:

The European Theater

Since the early chunk of the 21st century the European Union has been a contentious issue in conservative politics across the Eurosphere. Heralded originally as being a trade union for a free European Market it later evolved into a political body representing all of Europe as a whole. Its legislation making market restrictions that had broad impacts for all of Europe, or even large amounts of the world. As such, as the 2010's came and went the issue of Euro Skepticism grew. Provoked by nationalist parties seeking a return to the world of defined national politics in the grand European political state.

This ultimately brought to an end the European Union in the 2020's and the marked election of many conservative or deeply nationalistic parties in key member states such as France and Germany. The British Nationalist Party achieved election victory in the EU elections and successfully removed the UK from the crumbling EU. With its economic strength greatly damaged and its political influence greatly hindered the EU exploded by the War's beginning.

In Europe, The War started as Germany sought to regain the lost territories of its former Imperial domain as sung in its anthem. Turning on the Netherlands it marched to consolidate its power over the Lower Rhine and likewise to France for Alascea Lorraine, ultimately seizing both territories. Although it pushed East its war effort against Poland wasn't nearly as successful.

Though a number of smaller conflicts or revolutions may have boiled in Europe the major contention points in Europe would be centered on German nationalism and the pursuit of alliances with or against the German state.

The War in the Middle East

The greater conflict in the Middle East was largely defined by sectarian violence born from radicalization and fundamentalism from within or outside the Islamic State as well as a number of minority nationalist movements from groups such as the Kurds.

As a region, the Middle East is still largely reeling from ideas of National Politics just over a hundred years old in places and the growing pains have not settled. And on the broader scale many of the wars fought were in consolidation of young national thought. Also Isreal.

The War in Africa

Africa has long been a continent familiar with conflict, but all the same a continent long familiar with European influences. In the early 21st century China made cordial political and economic moves onto the Dark Continent to expand their influence and to acquire the rights to the continent's rich mineral reserves to feed their growing economic machine. Competing with India, the Chinese made great early economic successes in Ethiopia in the 2010's and later began working on their influence in Nigeria, attracted by the nation's plentiful copper deposits.

By the War's beginning and the general faltering of European power in response to home-front threats in the west, the Chinese stepped up their game of influence in Africa, often going so far as arming and financing insurgency groups to overthrow the national, European-friendly governments of Africa to put Chinese-friendly governments in power rapidly.

The incursion of Chinese influence in Africa attracted European attention back to their former colonies and they moved to counter the Chinese. The French and British were the largest players in the coalition to confront Chinese insurgency and special operations and countered in kind with funding and supplying counter-insurgents and the deployment of mercenary corporations (who have seen a renewed world after the international legal pressures from the UN were dissolved after the UN's dissolution).

In all, the fate of The War in Africa is murky. Though the violence has stopped neither side appropriately made gains. For all purposes the old governments in Africa have remained as they were and there was little territorial gains (the merger of the old French and Belgian Congo being the most appropriate). The Chinese forced far too few government changes, but managed to resist European demands to disarm their insurgent groups. In the end, over 80% of the original Chinese backed insurgents kept their arms and remain active to some degree.

Otherwise, the waning and disappearance of Boko Haram may be the region's only solid victory.

War in Central America

If there was ever a region to ever see the ugliest face of war it would be Central America. Thrust into the middle of a North-South conflict the states of Central America have largely ceased to exist from Panama to southern Honduras. The scale of devastation wrought in the war against the resurgence of the 19th century state Gran Columbia destroying the nations – and most of Columbia itself – from everything but paper.

The Central American parliament mustered an army valiantly enough with the backing of the United States, but it was not enough to save the region as it rapidly devolved into self-destructive and ecologically destructive guerrilla combat. When the smoke cleared Columbia wore a dark gash of ash and contamination from chemical and nuclear weapons, fired in a desperate bid to sever Columbian access to the American Isthmus. But through the brutal fighting Central America took the worst. Now its borders exist only on maps as the region rests in defacto disarray.

A number of NGO's maintain what's often advertised as authority over the region, but that is itself a lie to the outside in a bid to collect humanitarian donations. The only authority lies along the Panama Canal, the epicenter of the regional destruction. But even in this zone of semi-control there exists uneasy anarchy between desperate groups of raiders and pirates, most of which fueled by war veterans from both the region and the world over.

War In Asia

The current detailed conflict in Asia involves the exchange of nuclear weapons between India and Pakistan as the rising global crisis temperature brings them to blows of disputed territories. Ultimately both and knocked out in radioactive fire and India – as a major food-stuffs exporter – is handicapped and burned to the point of no longer being competitive. Other Asian power's involvement is unknown. The exchange of fire reducing large sectors – and the greater nations - of India and Pakistan transformed both into the Asian equivalent of Central America.

The UN

Predictably for this to work the UN has disbanded entirely as a response to political stresses damaging its ability to function properly. As such the organization closed its doors when the signs of war began to flicker, and they had not the strength or even the common ground to appropriately respond in any way.

MAP

Gray markings indicated provinces/states/regions of a larger nation or “Theoretical” nations based on old [mostly] ex-states and multi-national ethnic boundaries (Pashtunistan, Kurdistan). These nations may be claimed as a formal nation (in which case they'll be marked as black)* or may even be a simple basis for later revolution arcs to “liberate” that region from the mother nation for glorious minority.

*Pending acceptance from based GM if you are a sensible person.

RULES
- Standard RP Etiquette required.

- When claiming a nation and if you take “extra national territory” you must limit land claims to two nations smaller in territory or population than the “central” nation. And only if your nation was involved militarily in The War. Conditions of union based on “fear” will be denied, because if that was ever the case anywhere then there'd be a lot of shifting borders today. Georgia does not simply merge with Armenia because they're afraid of Russia.
This also applies to nations with pre-written territorial gains, automatically discounting Germany and The Congo.

- We do not rely on stats. Rather, I largely operate on a free-form basis. Though I expect us to operate in a realm of perceived realism. Though in the face of extreme changes, extreme divergence from the current political reality is possible, so long as it makes sense. This may be pointed and challenged by anyone on the basis a even dialectic platform is established and we are uniform in understanding.

- Though there may have been war and war leads to the trope of advanced technological progress, keep in mind this is massive multi-theater war stressing about any and all points of the global market. Super sci-fi weapons could be ultimately impractical when the rare-earths and materials needed can not be mined due to military embargoes or hoarding by someone who owns it. As well, the sheer mass of the conflict and the world of Cyber Warfare may ultimately lead to more progress in “smaller” advancements meant to circumvent war-fatique or to maintain control or a competitive edge on the battlefield, means to gain advantage over a whole theater may be too dangerous or impractical to design when a infinite number of national security concerns need to be taken.
I also have my economic concerns for these with wartime inflating the cost of many base resources to the roof and beyond, making a lot of projects in the later half of the war expensive to construct while maintaining full mobilization. I'mma post that argument now.

- Absolute no one-liners. Post length recommended at a minimum of five to six sentences.
No one is space based or space-bound. No inter-solar colonies, moon bases, or large-scale space stations are being maintained nor have they been launched.

- Time is measured by: one month = four pages

Application - Nation
Name of Nation:
Territories:
Background: (History of nation, government and who leads, and how it got that way. Point of divergence is 2015. Minimum length of three paragraphs.)
Other: (Not recommended. Use for anything that would not fit in the above. If nothing then omit.)

Application – Group

For those looking to play as a NGO: company, rebel movement/Social movement, international organizations, etc.

Group:
Type:
Assets: (What its controls, you can include land in this but don't make it to big, your not a country after all.)
Personnel: (Amount of people employed or in the group)
History: (Minimum length of three paragraphs.)

Application – Individual

For those who just want to explore the RP from ground level. No corporate or national politics. No need to fill out for any individual character part of your own nation-based or group-based story arcs.

Group: le Armie sans Frontiers

Type: Private Military Company

Assets: Infantry, rapid troop deployment in helicopters. Minor naval capability, largely brown or green water. Utilizes up-to-date arms manufactured predominately by its associates. A number of side-projects owned by the companies board of directors in private in effect allow the organization to launder raw materials and additional funds.

Personnel: 890,000 and growing employees of war veteran background.

History: The degeneration of international relations in the 2020's marked the weakening of the power and capability of the UN to legislate and enforce international law. Law which broke at the onset of the third world war in 2025. Of the failing of international, multilateral law came the breaking of what little restrictions could be put on mercenaries, or PMC/PMF's. The issue was additionally compounded by the failure of Interpol at the collapse of the UN assembly and the closure of its headquarters in New York a year before the war began.

The fall of these groups allowed for the practical free reign of a number of groups to engage in a number of activities without fear of multinational efforts to arrest them, or there being any body in assisting the capture of criminal elements, rebel brigades, or anything two or more national security operations would require coordination with for their arrest and trial.

The failure of the world of international law was taken note by then thirty-six Pierre Lofaine. The ex-GIGN operative had racked up many years of service experience in the French military and a special forces career including the final years of the First Ivorian Civil War (2005-2007), the Chadian Civil War (2009-2010), the Second Ivorian Civil War (2010-2011), and the rotating tours between French military efforts in the Chadian Civil War and the Central African Republic crisis.

Pierre was set to retire from the military world and enter finance when the idea of running a PMC company was offered to him in 2022.

The proto-company, the International Democracy Army was established in 2023 with a little over a hundred staff members running private security for French business owners and their interests in central Africa. However by the onset of the Third World War in 2025 came an explosion of uncertainty, and of opportunity.

The IDA was initially recruited by the French government for logistical support in the CAR and the Congo to combat explosive Chinese agitation on the African continent. The contract offered an enormous pay, and over a year Pierre and his associates doubled then triples their staff numbers, recruiting from local Congolese and international veterans without prejudice. By the end of their contract with the French government in 2027 the IDA had over twenty-times their original number.

By mid-war, the full effect on the lack of legal oversight for PMCs was reeling its head and the full extent of their ability was becoming fully realized. On top of it, the length of the war proved taxing on many world powers. The inflation that spiked over the course of the war as fueled by the massive expenses pumped into operation taxed the belligerents heavily. So much so it was becoming an intense affair in simply mobilizing an effective army while controlling the devastating economic collapses at home. As an effect, a heightened number of contracts were handed out to any and all PMCs/PMFs as they were seen as the more cost effective solution to fighting the continuing war. A lack of coverage on dead PMCs also played a major part in swaying public opinion as foreigners without name or nationality fought the battles for them.

The end of a second contract with the French government saw the IDF shifting loyalties shifting with the German government offering a massive paycheck for their campaigns within Central Europe. With no other contract higher Pierre took the deal and the ten-thousand strong IDF pursued the German will in Poland.

Of course, by this year of 2031 the size and now image of the IDF had shifted and they were in need for a change of image. Pierre – with his board of directors – opted for a formal brand change. Rebranding themselves from the IDF to the ASF; le Armie sans Frontiers, an Army without Borders.

The amount of financial strength they were able to make coupled with the during-war economic crash cheapened the price on surplus tools and desperate manufacturers were searching for more contracts of their own and were eager to devalue their goods on the simple hope to keep in the black. The inflation had taken root, and the war wasn't anywhere near finished, for what finish that was.

The ASF was capable of rearming itself with the top-of-the-line military surplus developed and mobilized during the war. Elevating it from a mere auxilary army to something more on par of a main-line army with the acquisition of a large number of drones, robots, troop carriers and support aircraft, and targeting computers. Their ranks continued to swell as they took on multiple contracts, fed now in turn by the economically desperate European and Asian citizens.

By war's end, the economic toll was great and to some degree its merits questioned. The capabilities of large military forces looked to have taken a hit as the force of financial support they needed became evident in its self-destructive nature. In a sense, private armies looked to be the best option with ASF standing out, with more field experience than any other to last, and the heaviest presence across any and all fronts in the war.

The war had also changed the face of ASF and the former IDF was largely forgotten in the winding behemoth of ASF. Equipped to par like any other western nation, its hunger for use had not died. And the need for an army and a police-force post-war was high. Especially in the economically disenfranchised nations of the world.

The ASF took a thirty-year contract as the major provider of military and public security in the African Congo, CAR, Angola, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, and Cote d'Ivoire. Contracts have also been extended to Paraquay to handle the police functions of the city's top five cities and Malaysia and Brunei.

Through the ASF these states are capable of organizing international crime-fighting efforts as well as pooling their efforts to stomping out lingering rebels and keeping stability. For the nations, ASF itself remains directly out of their national politics, though the private holders and upper-rank officers within the ASF have indirectly extended their company's reach through the ownership of their own private companies outside of, and in orbit of ASF. Through a shared pool of their war-time bonuses they have made the purchase of vast coltan and gold mines of the Congo, oil wealth, and arms and equipment manufacture that serves not only themselves but other PMCs/PMFs.

And the lack of international oversight and law regulating their actions has been a proven bonus.

ASN in its earliest form was initially registered as a company in Tel Aviv Russia. But as it grew it registered again in the US. By the The War and its re-branding it registered in France and operates out of all three in some fashion.

Name of Nation: The Islamic Empire of Saudi Arabia. (IESA)
Territories: Saudi Arabia, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Kuwait. Aka the whole Middle Eastern Peninsula.
Background:
When World War 3 Hit Saudi Arabia knew that the other countries surrounding it would ask for protection. As a result Saudi Arabia made a deal with them. If they became territories of Saudi Arabia then they would protect them. All but Oman and Kuwait agreed. Saudi Arabia then proceeded to conquer Kuwait by force showing an example of them. They executed the leader of Kuwait and exiled all of his relatives to wander through the sand. With that Oman agreed to join the IESA as they where scared the same was going to happen to them.

This brought major alarm from other Islamic countries including Iran, Egypt, Iraq, and Israel. The IESA promised to not attack the other countries if they promised to give 50 percent of all there resources to the IESA which all except Israel did. Israel attacked the IESA and failed horribly as all the missiles where shot down. The IESA marched armies and killed 5% of the Israeli population telling them if they did this again they would die.

The First Emperor of Saudi Arabia was crowned in a month later. His name is Yaseen bin Roohul Qudus. This man raised Saudi Arabia up to a super power which scared even the mighty Germany. Germany forged an Alliance with the IESA and they traded Goods and tech. The IESA is supplying Germany with troops to fight the other European countries. The IESA is the first Caliphate in over 1000 years. (Caliphate is Islamic Empire)

Other: They have the same flag as Saudi Now except it is red and has a Hammer and Sickle on all for corners.

Couple things:

1: Saudi Arabia only applies because the kings of Arabia now are of the House of Saud and someone new taking the crown would change the name from Saudi Arabia to Yaseeni/Yaseenid Arabia/Calpihate.

2: In name, we already have a Caliphate in modern times. Perhaps you heard of ISIS/ISIL. They have the most recent claim to a Caliphate, even if it's not "legit" by medieval Muslim standards. It's still one in claim and title.

3: Not only have you claimed more territory than I allow, but in the way that I hold to be the most bullshit way possible.

4: Do you even into Communism.

So no. You failed.

I also got the area on hold for a friend of mine, since he for the most part helped write it. It'd be more than presumptive to chop up the region and his claim - Iran - before he gets here.

Oh, cool.

Just 5 lines minimum. Presumably of good quality.

I'll keep my eye on this RP for now.

So anyway, since Saudi's reserved and probably several other countries, what countries (both new and old) are still available?

Im probably going to ask Aaron to retcon the NAF, as I don't think I will join this for the foreseeable future
And if I do come back I might play as China. If I do though I would prefer we retconned the lost of Tibet.

Though you certainly don't need my permission, considering the fact that I don't believe I ever submitted my Sheet, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the retcon of anything related to what I had planned for India (and by extension Tibet). So yeah, feel free to rearrange the subcontinent in whichever way you guys want.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that this was rebooted. I took a break from RPing shortly before the previous rendition of this RP started up I believe, and would like to actually have a go at it in earnest this time. If I may, I'd like to reserve Australia for myself until I can furnish a proper sheet. (Unless more paramount spots need to be filled for the sake of the RP, in which case I'd switch without too much grumbling)

I wouldn't say the independent Tibet is something that has happened, given as Fisheye admitted hasn't happened given he hadn't applied in the old thread. For America: since I didn't mention anything in the OP about it it'll be easy to clear that away.

Not like the unification of Germany in the face of France or unification of Italy in the face of Austria, or Cyprus attempting to join Greece in the face of Turkey or the slavic states into Yugoslavia right?

I get that you were pissed people were doing this to ridiculous extremes, but really, it isn't that unreasonable that Norway, Denmark and Sweden might team up, or the baltics with each other.

It's never been a means to give up one nation's sovereignty. National protection would imply that they - as a nation and political institution - would be protected by another. It would not be the over-riding of one local institution by another to accept another's laws and constitution. Similar conditions have arisen throughout history but they have never been the reason to facilitate annexation. At the greatest extent they may be a multilateral organization where each nation is independent akin to organizations like the Central American Parliament, though that group came to existence as a reaction to the Central American civil wars in the 80's in an attempt to resolve these wars, and later evolved into a cross-national forum to preserve Democratic systems. It's not an absolute annexation in any of the nations that could in any effort in the near, foreseeable future facilitate the return of the very short-lived FRCA.

Militarily, NATO is the biggest example of nations partaking in a multi-national military alliance in reaction to a common national threat. Organizations like that, or the smaller Scandinavian Defence Union which are organizations which allow functioning coordination between national armies to a degree that may almost be regarded as a unified national military in its operations. However, still respecting the political, national, and military independence of the member states.

Annexation in a diplomatic sense comes around only as part of a slower dialog on more subtle fields. They don't arise, or would be forced into happening, based on "fear" of an opposing nation-state. You may have conditions like strong economic partnership which over time and a number of trade treaties would sync either nation into being in tune to the other nation's economy, allowing for such a level of economic equality that functionally they are the same. Combined with cross-border social integration to the point that those nations are almost culturally indistinguishable. This is not an instant process and likely would not transpire in the given time-frame unless it's already ongoing.

In the end, race and culture will always boil into it. Canada and the US may erase their national borders to become one given the high-level of shared culture and our extremely close economy. A Canadian and an American are almost indistinguishable from each other in mannerism and taste; the only difference is Canadian opinion of America which is not nearly as high as American favor of Canada (which is somewhere close to 80-90% where as Canada is maybe around 50-60). The Balkans will probably never unionize unless by force given just how high tensions are between everyone and how high they've been (and given everyone speaks a different South Slavic language). Scandinavia will probably not unionize as it was in the 19th century because of the same reason, and because Norway broke off of Sweden by force of arms.

And finally: Nationalism never works on the basis of what's actually statistically beneficial for a population. You may have a strong government and the national economy is good and you have good mobility. But somewhere there is going to be a cultural or ethnic group that may still have qualms with the way politics are lead, and they will have a history they can fall upon to lament over no longer having. You simply can't achieve unity without first shooting a few non-Kebabs. Or Kebabs.

German unification was also something that has been sung for a long-ass time, and was inspired by the nationalist movement in France. The effect only managed to make face when Bismarck went in with Conservative Nationalism and not the French Liberal Nationalism to unite Germany in the traditional frame that respected its heritage, as is Conservative values. Italy was also a long-fought over unification dream in the same vein as Germany: merely unifying the lingual sphere of Italian into a solid and founded nation after centuries of city-states. Yugoslavia was an effect of the Serbian Government in exile pushing the Corfu Decleration at Versaille, which was as good excuse as any for the Allied powers to chop up Austria. Yugoslavia wasn't made as an effect of Serbia getting Croatia and company together: they were in Austrian control at the time, and Serbia itself was dominated by Austria during the First World War when the Corfu Decleration was made.

And Nationalism is a very strong voice in national politics. Even in this child-immigrant case here in the US you hear a lot of people bitching and biting at the bit about "protecting America's current borders". That's because Latinos are not "Americans" as we in the US consider an "American" being. And therefore, they're not part of the American identity and shouldn't be included in it. It may sound racist, but it is the dialog that exists and has been since the French Revolution. Expansion of the borders is most often made in the name of promoting a cultural idea over another by force, and bringing it to that area. "White Man's Burden" in civilizing Africa comes to mind: attempting to promote European ideals (as well as expanding European markets) over an "under developed" people.

Cyprus held a referendum to join Greece in the fifties, and the Greeks are the majority. But there are still Turks on the island who resisted and lead to a war in the seventies. For the most part the island is still split between the Turkish and Greek half, with Turkey still there with an army on the Turkish side. I imagine and second referendum to join Greece for merger would lead to the two coming to blows during the war. So you would still need to at least drop your neutrality with Turkey and go to war.

But look at it this way: You'll also get a moment to reclaim Constantinople if you win.

Sometimes nations don't make logical moves to begin with. And the Greek right would encourage the retaking of Constantinople, never mind the Turks there.
