Brace yourself, peasants of Hyrule.
Name: Maryev
Age: 68 (Out of a lifespan of at least a couple hundred years)
Race: Darknut
Gender: Male
Appearance: Commanding an erect, proud posture of a noble born son of a House that commanded and safeguarded an invaluable resource, Maryev is a towering figure standing at a full 7’02” with a warrior’s physique, toned from a lifetime of training and skirmishes. The stout canine-like features are more readily notable as he wields none of the equipment normally associated with the Darknut Legions, his dark grey-blue fur is lighter under the muzzle and his front and is naturally short, as befitting of a desert-adapted creature, and featureless red eyes sporting a demanding gaze under a stern and taciturn gaze.
Theme Song: Suidakra – March of Conquest
For respect is much harder to earn
Beyond the bond forged on the battlefield
Friendship makes one weak not strong
To do whatever has to be done
Side by side with banners high
To the last one they would fight
Relentless, fearless to the end
But none of them he called his friendPersonality: Arrogant, Determined, Lordly, Racist, Brave, Condescending, Honest
Backstory: Misfortune wasn’t always Maryev’s lot in life. He was a minor Noble in Unyus, the Southernmost city in the mountains of the Western Desert overlooking thegreat river that serves as the primary source of water to Lake Hylia commanding a hold that watched over the invaluable subterranean water spring that provided the majority of water in the arid desert city. A respected and proven lord and commander, Maryev had led skirmishing campaigns from the city against regional enemies on numerous occasions and had earned himself a reputation for both his skill in battle and commanding presence. However, his House was a small one and Maryev was ambitious, wishing to take more than his station allowed. His audacity, greed, and arrogance would eventually lead to his downfall.
In an attempt to wed the only daughter and heir of a rival lord, Lord Striatcus, Maryev was challenged to a duel of honour, which would take place in the districts Maryev commanded. The battle between the two bitter rivals lasted several minutes before an underhanded strike forced Maryev into the fast flowing stream and he was carried from his hold, and his people, cursing defiance as he was powerless against the current. Managing to remove the heavy armour he bore with great difficulty on whatever rocky outcropping’s he could grasp, Maryev managed to survive drowning when he was plunged into the heated river flowing from Gerudo Valley and his struggling and weakening body was eventually brought to Lake Hylia where chance would allow him to wash up on shore after he lost consciousness. Now trapped in a land belonging to a royal family he sees as Imperialistic warmongering occupiers and surrounded by lesser races of weak, disgusting people, Maryev is forced to take some truly desperate choices to find his way back home and reclaim his birth right, even if it means keeping his head down and cooperating with the filthy peasants of Hyrule.
Skills/TalentsFighting skills: Swordplay:
A Darknut is raised from adolescence to wield his sword and become a warrior. I suppose you could never understand the strength and discipline required to do so, since you are here bagging my groceries like a servant. Maryev was introduced to the fundamentals of battle the same age many of other races were being introduced to basic education. A lifetime of experience and training has made him extremely formidable with a two-handed sword.
Immense Strength:
This is a two-handed sword? I’ve used toothpicks that were more substantial! Perhaps if you spent less time counting rupees and bending steel, you’d find it in yourself to forge something larger… very well, it will do. For now. It is no surprise that the massive Darknuts, always feared amongst Ganon’s forces as powerful, unstoppable forces of nature amongst the ignorant, are among the most physically robust and powerful creatures that exist in the land. Capable of wielding two-handed weapons with one hand and lifting weights others may consider impossible, Maryev’s strength is something that should never be underestimated. Along with his sword, Maryev was increasingly burdened from a young age with the heaviest and strongest armours his frame could carry until the point the crushing weight became something of a second skin. He is comfortable moving in heavy armour, keeping surprisingly agile and unfatigued during heavy fighting.
Constitution:
I survived being thrown down a rocky chasm and nearly drowned for the better part of two days and I turned out fine, and you’re complaining about a sunburn? Along with the massive, hardy frame and physical conditioning from a lifetime of training as the perfect warrior, Maryev is incredibly pain tolerant and has been able to shrug off wounds that would cripple a lesser man. It is very uncommon for an opponent to be able to endure more punishment than a Darknut.
Survival: Cooking:
Why does it come as a shock to your feeble mind that I am capable of turning the gruel you called food into something edible? I have standards. Both as a man with an independent personality back in Unyus and as a desperate survivor trying to survive off the lands, Maryev has a knack for cooking and preparing food from even the most basic of supplies. You won’t believe its rat!
Shelter construction:
I had swiftly decided I severely dislike this rain phenomenon your kind endure nearly daily. I have endeavored to keep it at bay as much as I can. Owing to his physical strength and time overseeing military fortifications, Maryev is more than capable of making the most of the terrain around him and making a suitable shelter for a relatively comfortable time out of doors, provided he has the materials to work with.
Practical skills: Armour mending:
You claim this is the finest steel in the lands, yet I have had food packaged in more robust containment. If I am to fight in this refuse, I need to make sure it is functional. Not trusting the armour he’s scraped together and his ability to hammer out dents, abrasions, and other signs of damage and wear, Maryev’s dogged pursuit of perfection and quality has given him ample experience in keeping his equipment in the best condition he can.
Map reading:
What do you think I am, a Forest Child? I know my way around this cursed slag of a shanty you call home. Thanks to a Noble Upbringing and military experience as a field commander, Maryev is well familiar with geography and how to navigate using just about every kind of common map type.
Literacy:
Why does it always come as a surprise to those with such puny forms that a Darknut is well-read? You seem to think the larger they are the more decrepitly idiotic they come. In my experience, the inverse is true, you sniveling insect. Well educated since his youth with the best tutors rupees could afford, Maryev is a knowledgeable and intelligent man with a love for reading.
Goals: To reclaim his family honour and status; raise banner men to reclaim his hold; to escape the wretched existence of lesser races.
