Roan regained consciousness amidst the dirtiness of the street, circled by the same strangers he had fought with against the goblins. Barring the girl knelt near him and the ratfolk who was doing who-knows-what; they seemed pretty content on standing around doing nothing. With an audible groan, Roan turned to look at the state of his own body. From what he could gather, despite the presence of some rather crude bandages, his body was severely wounded and covered in a strange substance he hoped was just his blood mixed with the goblin’s dog drool. Not that that was a good prospect.
Seems I’m not dead yet. How delightful. From his position he could see the sun shining brightly in the sky as if in mockery of his current situation, and concluded that he had been out cold for a small amount of time, probably less than ten minutes.
But then why does it feels like I’ve been unconscious for weeks?Doing his best to ignore the aching all over his body and his confusion, the ranger stood up to grab his weapon and the rest of his belongings from the ground. While he did so, he turned to the girl knelt near him and said, with a dismissive tone “No need to pray for my soul or whatever, these goblins wouldn’t be enough to kill me.”
Of course, this wouldn’t have happened if the people around him had dealt with the lesser goblins so he could have dealt with the leader. Really, had he knew how bad they were on the whole goblin slaying part he wouldn’t have rushed to defeat the leader and get knocked out by surprise from a bunch of moronic goblins.
That’s what you get for expecting too much of people. Heh, thought I had learned this lesson. At least they did defeat them, if the remains of the dog and its rider a few meters away said anything. Though how much that was an accomplishment instead of a proof they weren’t completely incompetent was debatable. “I gather there are no more goblins around?” He asked looking at the armored man, all the while he busied himself thinking about what his next move would be. With his search of the Sandpoint Devil fruitless and the sorry state he was in, it would be idiotic for him to return to the woods around the town.
At the same time as he listened to whatever response he got from his question, if there was any, Roan knelt near the remains of the goblins leader and its mount. With a neutral expression on his face, he searched both creatures’ bodies for any item of value or that could at least answer why the goblins were attacking the town, who knows maybe such information could fetch a nice price. His coin purse surely could be weightier. More so if he had to pass a night on an inn.
Wait, with this whole damn festival around, would there be a vacant place somewhere? Well, with any luck maybe the goblins managed to kill someone, leaving a place for me to stay the night. Occupied on his investigation, he gave a side glance to the other two he hadn’t spoken with and, convinced it wouldn’t be wise to interrupt the ratfolk, he started to speak towards the girl covered in fur.“I see you are still pretending to be a fox, huh. I’ve seen a few magic tricks in my life, but this one has to be the most useless one yet.” He stopped his speech for a moment as he went to search the other body. “Did you expect the goblins would leave you alone or something because of that? I could understand if it was a dragon or something like that, but a fox? Really? ”
Search for any lootable item on the remains of the goblin dog and goblin leader and get them if they exist.
