At my school, we sang and danced to This at our morning assemblies,As you listen, imagine an auditorium full of about two-hundred kids with varying degrees of coordination, none of whom were fully awake, shuffling awkwardly as this song suggested. When the guys said "chacha now, y'all" we were allowed to take creative license in our dance moves. I usually stood stark-still with my hands jammed in my pockets as the mass of awkward bodies writhed disturbingly around me.

My school had the decency to wait until P.E.

Lucian said That's good to hear. It's pretty refreshing. Then again, for all their Dogma, the Catholic church is actually rather good at adapting with the world. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, not as bad as they seem I guess. And now we have a Pope that I can actually be proud of, not that I'm a huge advocate or follower of Catholicism, but it's still nice to know that they're not fucking things up as bad as they could be.

Well, that's an image that is both hillarious and creepy.

No, on so many levels. The new Pope is the exception and is hopefully heralding a new era of Catholic tolerance and development, but up until this point they still ferociously condemned contraception, homosexuality, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Don't pretend "I am the lord of the dance said he" doesn't fill you with entire realms of joyous nostalgia.

I'm biased because I'm British and we (historically) fucking hate the Catholics, so take this with a grain of salt, but I rather disagree.

I'm just saying what I've noticed from an atheistic American standpoint. I'm relatively unbiased. Here's what I mean,

Example link

And another one

And another

From what I've seen, the Catholic society jives the best with the rest of the rational world. Whereas groups like Baptists or Mormons would rather shut it out.

Thank you.

Speaking as a Catholic here: not all of us are here to force our beliefs on you, make you believe that evolution is a lie and that all homosexuals should be lynched. And no, I'm not the only one, either. Everyone in my church that I actually know well is a decent human being who also fits in pretty well with society. Hell, the priest at my church has occasionally even spoken during mass about subjects such of these in a rather insightful way - saying that science and religion can actually come together quite beautifully and don't have to contradict each other, and that we shouldn't ban all abortions if there are women that we're hurting in the process.

I may be overreacting a bit here: but I just felt it fair to point out that I find these generalizations about Catholics to be annoying misconceptions at best and offensive stereotypes at worst. :/

Definitely. Catholics are more open and understanding of the modern world than society and mainstream media would lead you to believe. It always upsets me when I hear the dumb stereotypes of how oppressive and shitty Catholics are.

I wasn't criticising all individual Catholics; I acknowledge that individuals of all religions and creeds can be wonderful or terrible people of their own accord. The institution of the Catholic Church, however, I am not much a fan of.

Ok, now, I have been told to check out spam and if this is what the whole thing is about I don't want to check it out again. I was raised a Baptist and I major in science. I am still a Christian and I believe in evolution. So what you just said is one of the most wrong things I have ever seen.

You will not fit in well here at all, if you are offended this easily.

That being said, it is extremely rare that we discuss religion at all in Spam.

I am not normally offended that easily. It is just when people have misconceptions about Religion.
