It potentially IS dangerous to the caster- the only reason it's not REALLY dangerous is because the wording of the spell is such that they can't attack. The commands that force them to move stop them from taking other actions, but I'll point out that in moving and obeying the spell, they have taken an action and thus are not flat footed, even if they weren't the ones to decide on the action. They are still aware of what's happening, and as soon as you stop chain casting the spell to attack them they're going to be able to react because it's clear by then that you're hostile.

Also, sleep isn't one of the things that command lets you do. It's very clear about what actions you're allowed to command: approach, drop, fall, flee, halt.

I'll also mention that if you cast it six times, there's a pretty good chance that it'll get resisted at least once during that time, letting him shout for help. Also, Command DOES have a verbal component.

Heck, if we all cast Magic Stone and just pelted a guard, there's a good chance we could kill him at range- especially considering we could make enough to hand some off to the non-clerics, meaning that suddenly everyone is throwing rocks that do 1d6+1 damage at the guard, then as soon as he's dead I can mage hand the keys over and let us out. If we're lucky we could even put him down in the first volley before he could sound the alarm, and for an attack like that he WOULD be flat footed, no question.

I was saying I can cast the ability that gives me traits of someone undead undead 6 times.

I edited my post because ya I forgot there is now a set command list.

With the approach command even if they are not flat footed it says they may take no other action so no warning anyone. Plus I will still have 2 chances to grapple them down before they can warn anyone since as they walk in they provoke an attack.

I am not too afraid of provoking a will save since most will saves are low while with a normal attack like a shank I have to overcome armor AC

My dex is 12 and I assume guards will have like scale mail.

Actually, another idea that seems solid- first, you grab a shank, since it'll do d4 damage and you can hide it from the guard. Get the guard to come into your cell- they don't need to think you're sick or anything, you just need them in there- then I'll cast Heartache from BoVD on them. Heartache makes them helpless for one round, which would let you do a coup de grace attack with the shiv. Assuming you have strength ten and don't bother casting magic weapon, that means that they'll have to make a DC 18 save or they die. I'd lure him into my cell to do it since I have more strength and the save DC against death would be higher, but I can't cast Heartache and spend a full-round action doing a coup-de-grace all at once.

This has the upside that if he DOES pass his save, his attention will be on the crazy lizardman chanting and trying to inflict a spell on him, and in that situation you likely WOULD have the flat-footed advantage to work with. Correct me if I'm missing anything, but I think that works best in all regards- if it succeeds then he's dead with no issues, if it fails then you're in a perfect setup to catch him off guard since someone else has his attention.

That could work well. I will check what buffs I can grab that last like a minute per level with no material component once i get to my computer. We do not even need him to enter my cell if I can get him through the bars.

There aren't many level one buffs with long duration- Magic Weapon, Ironbeard, Bless and Shield of Faith are the only ones that would be of much use to us. There are some others, but not really things that would help in this sort of a combat situation.

Really if that was the plan we chose to move forward with, I'd say to use Magic Weapon on a shank and use it for the coup de grace. That way the DC to not die will be 20, and even if he doesn't auto die, you already did ten damage with the opening hit.

Also, I only just noticed- how can you cast command six times? I mean to have five bonus level one spell slots at level one, you'd need a wisdom score of like 44. I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm just wondering how you wound up with that number. I mean I have two spells and then my domain slot.

I'm not gonna post again tonight, I'm going to bed. Look forward to continuing on about this later though, I love talking plans for D&D :D

I said I was not talking about command. I can cast the ability giving me some undead qualities 6 times.

Okay. Now I know what to plan against. ;) Just kidding, I wouldn't use information like that.

This would be a jail, since jails are the ones the usually use chain gangs. I don't think there will be an Anti-Magic Field. That would be expensive and beyond the scope of what a low level prison would need. Most likely, they would train the guards to resist mental magic, via the Iron Will feat. I do want the breakout to require planning over a decent period of time, maybe a level. I want the breakout to feel like a major accomplishment for the group that will bring them together even after the breakout, even evil can have loyalty.

I don't even think that high-level, long term, maximum prisons would even be a thing, at least on a large scale. Unless you really need to keep someone alive for some reason, nothing good comes from keeping the captured evil Dragon Disciple confined at all times. If he breaks loose, all hell could be unleashed. I guess you could make a case for neutral people, but even then, I can imagine they would have a rather liberal use for the death penalty or just letting it slide.

You guys keep plotting the physical force parts of your plan without including Solace. She can coup de grace for 22 damage with her bare hands, with 1d4 extra damage more before the guard gets to act.

She has a very significant chance of downing a HD 1 guard before he gets to act simply by punching him in a surprise round.

I started my plans based on my character not knowing anyone else.

Primal Conundrum are a pair of death obsessed clerics so you know, we can probably either backstory or IC becoming fast friends.

Solace is a maybe on how fast the become friends she is only 11 charisma, it is prison though so standards are expected to be lowered.

I am debating sticking with Undead Lord since my character has kind of developed towards the War domain as well. Tough call between dual stat human and extra feat human as well.

Also, how do we join the campaign on the Obsidian Portal site?

Fair enough.

I like to come up with multiple underlying personality and goal sets for my characters, so that I can choose whichever one fits with the party the best.

Hard to plan with someone when they aren't there :P Also, since Sujurak has 1d4 damage claws and +2 str mod, his coup de grace is also 22 while unarmed. That said, the monk is probably going to have an easier time outfighting a guard, so it WOULD make more sense having Solace do the coup de grace as it would result in better odds if they pass their saving throw. Either way, if either Solace or Sujurak got a coup de grace off, even if the guard made their saving throw they still would have gotten chunked for 12 damage in the opening round.

And yeah, I could see the Clerics getting along well potentially, as long as yours doesn't try to convert Sujurak too much :P He's pretty friendly with the little spirits, after all.

I'm totally fine with the breakout taking a while to accomplish. That'll just make it more awesome when it happens :D

He will be doing it pretty regularly. He will be trying to convert everyone though.

I often come up with a basic character concept and everything just kind of develops from there.

Like right now my character is a complete glutton for the good things in life, a lecher, but also very pious to his deity and worships her through the enjoyment of life, the slaying of disbelievers, and conversion of everyone he comes across.

Sujurak isn't as much of a hedonist as that. He's cruel, even to the point of actually having a flaw for that, and has a mean sense of humour. He's got a bit of a superiority complex, and usually looks down on most others. That doesn't mean that he'll work against them or anything, he'll just feel that he's better than them.

Lucky for him, the little spirits that work with him seem to have a similar sort of personality. He regards them more as companions as opposed to a god to be worshipped, and so it's easy for others to think that he's not very pious at all when in fact he is, it's just expressed quite differently.

This should be my finalized sheet:
Velaeris Alois The Necromancer Cleric of Urgathoa

How bad is his superiority complex? Is he fine working with people who do not defer to him?

That's just a link to a random image.

He's fine working with them, he just thinks that he's better than they are and if they tell him to do something he thinks is stupid then he won't do it. He's not someone on whom "just trust me" is going to work as an explanation.

Isidora has no interest in any leadership role. Raised by a cannibalistic hag, her taste for blood is great to a point where she enjoys the struggle of her next meal. Perhaps a bit sadistic it's all she ever knew. Her intelligence is great even though not formally educated. She derives her knowledge from nature and the unknown spiritual forces she comes across. She strives for power to one day form her own covenant. Perhaps one day she or her covenant together might gain the knowledge to unlock the mysteries that surround her.

Quietly she thinks day and night on the fear she might instill, the poisons she might make, or help she might give to an individual to break out.

Enjoying the struggling of her next meal is by definition sadistic.
